Duets – Superstars Choice – Recap and VIDEO

At one point I thought J. Rome would lose the edge once the live rounds began, but I’m back to thinking he’s going to win.  His duet, “Breakeven” with Jennifer Nettles was very entertaining while showing off his versatility. But his solo, “Signed, Sealed and Delivered” was nothing special. It was OK  for J Rome to have a weak performance, because none of tonight’s contenders were 1 for 1.

John Glosson and Jennifer Nettles took on a little more than they could handle with “The Prayer” but John’s “God Bless the Broken Road” was right in his wheelhouse.

Jason Farol and Kelly Clarkson inexplicably chose the super-boring and old-fashioned, “Me and Mrs Jones” as their duet number. It did Jason no favors. But the young man brought the house down with an energetic performance of Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby”.

Still, I think Duets’ small audience will go for the guy who has appeared to be the front runner all along. The finale is next Thursday. J. Rome will be crowned, and likely never to be heard from again.

The superstar judges sing “Get Ready” by The Temptations! LOLZ FOREVER. Dancers are literally picking up Kelly Clarkson and putting her on her mark, because she’s still in a cast! An awesome start to the show.

After eliminations, the remaining 3 amateurs will sing a duet AND a solo!

Bridget Carrington and John Glosson are in the bottom 2!

Bridget Carrington is eliminated! Boo. I loved her. But she had a weak performance last week. I’m sorry John Legend won’t be performing with an amateur tonight.

Kelly Clarkson’s partner, Jason Farol, and Jennifer Nettles’ 2 partners John Glosson and J. Rome will compete for the crown!

J. Rome and Jennifer Nettles – Breakeven by The Script – An interesting choice of song. J. Rome the R&B artist and Jennifer Nettles the country girl are doing just fine with a straight up pop song. It shows versatility, which is a good thing. Her other partner, John doesn’t traverse genres as easily. Robin: I think it’s a great song. You sounded so great singing it. I wouldn’t have thought it was right for your voice. John. Your chemistry and connection are infectious. Kelly: I’m mad! You’re so good. That is one of my favorite songs. You chose to go outside the box. I love it. 855-962-5002

Jason Farol and Kelly Clarkson – Me and Mrs. Jones by Billy Paul – This song saved Jason from the bottom 2. Is it good luck? Personally, it’s a little old fashioned for such a young man. I’d prefer he stick to contemporary tunes. Good vocal, though. Kelly sounds fantastic as always. Jennifer: I love the niche that you finding. You’re like a yummy little soul singer. John: I thought last week was better than this week. I don’t think this was a good song for you. Robin: I can see why girls are going crazy for you. You need to sing to Kelly like she’s Mrs. Jones. You need to be a little naughty. 855-962-5003

John Glosson and Jennifer Nettles – “The Prayer – John sounds off in spots. Jennifer is singing the Italian parts. They sound much better when they harmonize on the bridge, but there are rough spots all the way through. This is not an easy song to sing, they’re struggling a bit. John: You are wonderful. You sound beautiful tonight. That song took advantage of your strengths. Robin: You were off key for about one note (MORE THAN THAT) Kelly: There is something super special about your voice. 855-962-5004

SOLO ROUND

J. Rome – Signed, Sealed and Delivered by Stevie Wonder – J. Rome works the stage like a pro. But funny thing…my least favorite thing is when he sings R&B. I appreciate him more when he reaches out of his comfort zone. This feels very very safe to me. Solid vocal, but nothing special.

John Glosson – God Bless The Broken Road by Rascal Flatts – This is the perfect song for John. He says he wants to be an adult contemporary artist like Buble, but I think John shines most in country and gospel. This song highlights his strengths much better than his duet with Jennifer.

Jason Farol – Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars – Jason really shines on the uptempos! This is a GREAT song choice for him. He’s still got to work on his stage presence, but I love his vocal on this high energy number.

Robin thought John sang the best but Jason brought the house down. John loved the song choice. The right vein for Jason. But, John thinks J. Rome is the winner. Kelly loved John’s vocals and was impressed with J. Rome.
