Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young Join the Broadway Cast of Hair – VIDEO

The rumors are true: Season 5 Idol, Ace Young and Season 3 Idol, Diana DeGarmo will be joining the Broadway cast of Hair.

“American Idol” finalists Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young will lead the tribe of the Tony-winning Broadway revival of Hair beginning March 9.

DeGarmo, who most recently appeared in The Toxic Avenger Off-Broadway and the Broadway run of Hairspray, has been cast as Sheila (originally played by Caissie Levy). After starring in the Broadway and national tour of Grease, Young will return to the New York stage as Berger, the role originated by Tony nominee Will Swenson.

The new cast of Hair will make their Broadway debut March 9, while members of the original Broadway cast will begin performances in the London production at the Gielgud Theatre on April 1. An official London opening has been set for April 14.

    Congrats to them both. I can’t speak for Ace since I’ve never seen him live,but I’ve seen Diana on Broadway before and she’s right in her element there. Sheila has so many great songs like I Believe in Love, Easy to be Hard and Good Morning, Starshine.

    Diana is going to KILL on some of those songs. I cannot wait to see this.

    Although I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing Ace in person, many others have, including several of his fans, and they were impressed with him in his roles as Kenickie and Danny. I’m sure he will make a good Berger.

    Ace will be happy! He can let his hair grow again and blame it on the show. :)

    Are they still doing the nude scene in Hair? Will Ace and Diana be in the buff?

    Hazehel, the nude scene is optional for all cast members. Most, including the previous Berger and Sheila, do it. The character of Berger is the leader so Ace almost needs to do it in order to stay true to the script and character storyline. The scene almost doesn’t make sense if he is clothed and the rest are naked.

    My guess is Diana may do it but won’t go full frontal. If she doesn’t do it, it won’t impact the scene (which is literally only 15 seconds long and there is other stuff in the show which is much more risque).

    Saw Ace at last years Idol finale. That man is GORGOUS, even more so than in pics. Same goes for Jason Castro and Brooke White. So pretty.

    I wasn’t a big fan of Ace during his season, but I was impressed by his stage presence at the Idol tour that year, and liked him after seeing him live. This is very cool for Ace and Diana, congratulations to them! I hope they do great and I wish I could see this show.

    I saw Diana in Hairspray and she was very good. Congrats to them both.
