Desi met the Idols by the buses, did a cellcert for Rickey AND took some pictures! Wow. Read her account here and at her Live Journal

The American Idol Experience.
or, how chikezie eze almost killed me.

I arrived in Detroit SUPER early because every road is under construction (and because I woke up at 6am and couldn’t sit around the house.) I wanted to get to the busses around 11:30 but I got to D-town an hour early, so I went to the coffeeshop, called Rickey, killed time until Kristen (my amazing Idol partner for the day from rickey.org) arrived. She got there around 11:30 and we darted down to the busses. There weren’t any barriers up yet and only like. 40 people were out. So we stood around with the gift bags I made some of the Idols and the barrier started to get up. Blah blah. It’s all boring banter (and a lot of me singing “You’re The Voice”) until… 1ish? 1:30? Time lost all meaning under that damn sun. I was on the corner and I saw the buses come through the Cobo underpass thing first and I was already so nervous all I could do was scream “BUS! BUS!” I couldn’t even get my fingers to work correctly to photograph. I recovered use of them and started clicking away. Brooke and KLC came out first and Brooke had a bright pink piece of tape taped to her chest: “Hi! I’m on vocal rest!” Too cute. Kristy Lee followed… You know, a strange thing happens when you see them live. You suddenly love them all. I hated Kristy on the show, and I really believe that there are subliminal messages in her single, because there’s no earthly reason that I should enjoy it. I digress. Picture with her. And suddenly I’m telling her how excited I am for the album.

I’m as confused by this as you are.

She’s got some great photos of the Idols by the buses. Here’s a few more:

She posted some videos too, which I’m posting here…

    Best quote ever:

That was seriously the best review. It had all the details I wanted to hear. But what did she mean about no Billie Jean sexiness?

d.c. looks so tired lately. poor guy!

Loved this recap, fucking hillarious. The stuff about KLC especially cracked me up, as I could relate. Couldnt stand her on the show, but have such a weird starstruck fangirlyness when meeting celebs, that I know when/if I see her, I too will be a temporary fan and congratulating her on her upcoming album, while simultaneously asking for pics and autographs.

Desi, this is seriously the most entertaining review ever! You certainly have a way with words. It was so fun doing the buses with you.

You know, a strange thing happens when you see them live. You suddenly love them all.

I know… we were totally gushing over KLC and Syesha! Honestly a lot of our encounters with the idols is a blur to me, too. You can think about what you want to say to them in your mind for days but it never comes out the way you planned. I don’t think I said anything to David Cook! I just gave him the photo to sign upside down! It didn’t help that everyone rushed over to where we were and shoved things at him.

    A few other things I remembered…

    * Your premature “BUS” screams.

    * The Archie fanboys next to us asking us who the blonde haired girl was. After we told them it was Kristy Lee Cook they still ended up calling her “Rachel” instead!

    * Archie humming a tune as he was going down the line. We should have asked what song it was. You should have started singing The Voice to him. You certainly did have that song stuck in your head.

    * I don’t think I told you this but when I went to snap a picture of Michael earlier in the line someone gave him a jar of sand that their relative had just brought back from Australia. He opened the lid, sniffed it and said, “Yep smells like Australia.” That’s “Michael goddamn Australian Johns” for you!

    * At the end of the line Michael picked up a few leftover gifts for the other idols. I think he said he would be their “idol delivery boy”. I gave him the “All About David Cook” crossword puzzle I made that I completely forgot to give DC. He looked at it for a second and either smiled or maybe it was smirked and put it in his back pocket.

    * There was also the girl at the end of the line who gave Michael the Red Wings jersey. Well, somehow that’s the same jersey Chikezie ended up wearing instead. I wonder how that happened.

Dirty little secret confession time. I voted for Syesha.

Okay, I’ll admit it… me, too. I really liked “One Rock & Roll Too Many”! But I’m sure I voted for Cook more than Sy that week.

Your PSA… lol. While you were surrounded by immature Archie fangirls I was sitting in the Cougar & Grandparents section! Seriously the lady next to me was complaining about how loud it was. When KLC was trying to get the crowd to cheer really loud so she could hear through her inner-ear piece I heard the lady say, “I wish she hadn’t done that”. As far as I could tell I was the only one drinking in my section!

I’m apparantly the only person in my section who knows anything about the tour

I know! The girl in front of me admitted she had only watched one episode this season. I showed my photos to a few others sitting by me and they were amazed that the idols had greeted fans before the show. The lady next to me wanted to know if she could download the tour tracks from iTunes. I guess we’re just not the casual Idol fans… it’s more like like an OCD for me this year!

Definitely good advise to future bus stalkers in this warm weather… bring a small cooler with water, small spray bottle fan, and plenty of sun block. At least you’ll be prepared for your next two shows!

    -Kristen
