Pop singer, Demi Lovato, tells MTV that she may have to decide between music or returning as a judge to X Factor:

“It’s hard ’cause at the end of the day, I’m a musician. So, I could take the opportunity to tour, and, you know, I have to be a business woman and I have to like balance it out on both aspects,” she told MTV News last week. “But, at the same time I had some much fun. And I would love to go back.”

“It’s just a matter of making things work,” she added. “And, you never know, I may do both; I may just pick one or the other.” Her uncertainty is there even as auditions press on for season three. The show will be holding a round of auditions as soon as March 6 in the L.A. area.

Somehow, I think she’ll be returning to X Factor if Simon Cowell wants her back. She may even get a little raise from that 1 million-ish salary she signed on for her first season.

Who she’d like to be sitting next to her on the judges panel? Lady Gaga. Dream on, Demi. There’s no way FOX is going to cough up the kind of money Gaga would require to take the job. Not at this point, considering the struggling singing competition’s low ratings.

Check out her interview below.

I don’t see any reason why she can’t do both. But if she honestly has to chose, she should stick with her own music career, because XFUSA looks to be a sinking ship.

ETA – I wonder if she’s saying this simply to try & get more money from XFUSA?

Seriously, do both.  Maybe do less shows, but increasing your visibility to the masses will only help you, especially when releasing new music.

colour me cynical… but it sounds a bit like one of those, i’m trying to cover all bases comments… everything from genuinely not sure where to focus energies to wants more money to stay with XFUS or hasn’t been asked back yet… I guess time will tell

““But, at the same time I had some much fun. And I would love to go back.””

Really, Demi? Most of what I saw wasn’t you having much “fun”.

“I have to be a business woman” = you need to give me a raise.

Lady Gaga might still be recovering from surgery by the time XF comes back so she may actually be available. Whether Simon’s flop of a show can actually afford her is another story.

Sounds like Demi’s setting the table for a farewell dinner, to me – although I suppose a raise could make a difference…but it won’t buy any ‘fun’…not on that show.

She wasn’t a terrible judge, but she ‘was’ a terrible mentor, IMO. People noticed. Move on, take the publicity she already got and cash it in for her career would be a wiser move, I think.

If Simon needs a new judge for US XF in line with his usual demands for females in that job, Lindsay Lohan is probably available.

Simon underestimated Demi by hiring her as just another female singer appealing to teens and putting so much emphasis on Brit Brit. Seriously, $1mil was Demi’s salary and the same that Paula got paid (even though Demi is more famous).

I think Nicki would have been a good pick for X Factor with all here crazy costumes and big productions (and since X Factor also accepts rappers unlike Idol).

Lady Gaga EPITOMIZES X Factor and would be an excellent choice.

This sounds both like building a leverage for a higher pay, and as a back-up plan, seed a nice explanation for her exit if she’s not wanted back. (Who knows, maybe Simon wants to re-new the whole shebang.)

She might be an OK judge, but I think she was THE WORST mentor ever on the history of X-Factor. It didn’t help that she had one of the weakest teams ever, but she helped to make ALL the performances of her team joke performances. Besides that,  the inexplicable and bizarre changes on the look of her contestants that she made.

Word is Khloe is going to get fired. She never had a chance.

Neyo indicated at Grammys that there has been some interest. With LA gone they need a music producer presence.

Also heard they are talking to Cheryl Cole as well. Why she would do it after being humiliated is anybody’s guess.

I hope she does both. Demi’s last album was pop perfection. She was also a wonderful judge on the show.

  • yclept

In my opinion, Demi was the best judge on the show – the only judge in two seasons willing to actually criticize her own contestants from time to time.  As a mentor, she was “eh”, but let us not forget that it was her first season – she can easily improve on the mentoring aspect of the show.
No doubt she is posturing for a raise if they want her back.  To be exact, if she is making these comments, that tells me that she has probably already heard that they do want her back…and now she wants to make it appear as if she has other options (which she, without much of a doubt, does have)
Enough with the changes on the show already – go for some consistency.  I agree 100% with dumping Britney and Khloe, as they were useless.  But Demi showed potential.   Get her signed and move on.
