I looked at a few videos of the Red, White & Boom concert and the band was on fire! Very high energy set and I loved their cover of I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight. The band really gets better and better.

and hopefully they get a really cool name for the band....not something like The Kooks or Puddle of Mudd or worse...Deathcab for Cutie :thumbdown_tb:

guys, do you have any suggestions for the unnamed DC band?

I know that either David or Neal said that they wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be playing alot of Analog Heart songs because they were too David Cook, and didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t fit the band, or something. A very WTF comment.

I can sort of grudgingly understand what he means (if he really did say that). I was initially surprised that he picked Straight Ahead as the one AH song to play, especially since the ones that people seem to talk about the most are Silver, Truth, Let Go, Porcelain and Makeover. However, Straight ahead is more rocking than all of those songs and is probably more fun for the band to play. Let Go does have a guitar solo but it has an overall slower pace than Straight Ahead. Even though I would love to hear more AH, I do think it's very important for David to consider the band when he is picking songs, especially if he wants them to stick around. Otherwise it would just be David Cook and a bunch of backup musicians, and its obvious that he doesn't want that. David should still keep in mind, however, that some of his most powerful performances are the slower songs like Lie, Permanent and TWIK, where you can really hear his voice. I would hate to see songs like that phased out because they're not exciting for the band to play (Rumor has it that Neil hates Avalanche, which might explain why we don't hear it much).

Regarding MWK songs as being better for the band: They might be good for the band but I don't think those songs necessarily suit Cook's voice (with the exception of Anodyne which he co-wrote). I really disliked Make Me, but I think 'till I'm blue is an improvement.

I know that Andy was the lead singer with MWK. One song in particular that I heard Andy sing was Anodyne and he didn't pack the punch that David does when he sings the song. David's vocals are so much better than Andy, who is a little bit more mellow in his style but I feel David puts a lot more passion and feeling to it and packs a bigger punch. I think I read that David & Neil wrote the song but Andy performed it with MWK. Andy might have had some say in the song too, but this song screams David Cook. Just the word "anodyne" screams "word nerd." Andy is a prime example of being talented but never getting that big break. Neil also produced Cook's 2nd indy album. I have to think it must be difficult for Andy to be now a back up vocalist & musician but frankly, his career wasn't going anywhere and David is the star of this group. After Cook left MWK to strike out on his own he still didn't forget his friends as obviously, he was working with Neil and also got Andy to join on with EEB. I thought I read that Cook is going one step further in not only getting an official name for EEB but making everyone partners rather than just Cook's employees. That is why Cook is such a stand-up guy.

I know a fan asked Neal about Let Go specifically. I think this was at the start of the first leg of the tour. And he said that he was tired of that song. I guess he played it a lot back in Tulsa with Dave.

I'm pretty sure that exchange was in regards to Creep, not Let Go. And I can't imagine how Neal would have been playing Let Go often enough to be sick of it - I know he played on the album, but at shows? I know that either David or Neal said that they wouldn't be playing alot of Analog Heart songs because they were too David Cook, and didn't fit the band, or something. A very WTF comment.

I like the explanation someone on here had that MWK songs are still available for purchase, and also the MWK songs showcase Andy and Neal, and that will perhaps give them more bargaining power when it comes to the next album.

I EFFING LOVE Feed Your Ego. I don't think he'll do any Axium live with this band, but if he does... and if he does Feed Your Ego... I will die happy.

I was at the San Diego concert! Shattered Dreams is so random but great... and Bar Ba Sol is the best song ever!

I don't see why they can't play 1 MWK song and 1 AH song each concert. It would honor both David and Andy/Neal as songwriters, and please the fans too.

It has crossed my mind before to wonder if it's because Neal is music director that they don't sing AH songs but MWK songs instead. I like Neal but that kind of bugs me. I wish David would explain why they won't/don't sing AH songs when the fans are crazy about them (and they are great songs too). I also wonder if they have plans to re-record them and are saving them for that (but that's probably wishful thinking).

I don't like Andy's voice. But in order to make the concerts longer and rest David's voice at the same time, I think it would be fine if Andy sang a couple of songs while David took a break. Actually there's a discussion going on at DCO about all this right now. Or it was yesterday anyway.

So, they're not playing Let Go because Neal is tired of it!? I hope that's not true. If so, he should be just as tired of playing MWK songs. Surely, he's done those more. I didn't think Neal/Andy made the solo rounds with David in Tulsa. Hopefully, even if Neal is the music director, David still has the last say on what eventually gets added to the set and what doesn't.

If they have indeed worked out another AH song for this leg of the tour, I bet they've saved it for Red White and Boom tonight. Hometown crowd is a good place to debut some old school Cook stuff. Fingers crossed....

Just for informational purposes David never sang lead on any MWK songs nor did he ever sing lead when they did a show. The closest he got when he was with MWK to singing lead was the cover of hunger strike where him and Andy sang. Now Andy was the lead singer of MWK and David joined an established group so he would not have supplanted Andy for lead. So I think the same holds true for this group, it formed around David Cook as lead singer and I would not expect Andy to sing lead in this group just as David did not sing lead in MWK.

I would love more AH songs, if Let Go is a no go then any other would fit the bill. I am one who loves the whole album also.

Hey, MJ thanks for posting this. The Shattered Dreams cover rocks. It's a little obscure. The only reason I know it is because my HAC radio station has an 80's request Friday. I don't know how big a hit it was back in the day? Till I'm Blue sounds go but I'll need to hear it a few more times.

I think the whole Andy debate is much a do about nothing. The problem I have with the whole debate are the extreme reactions. I think there are some Andy fanatics that turn me off and there are Andy haters that turn me off even more. I love MWK cause they have some great music. Andy and Neal are made talented musicians in their own right. I think that with Dave and Joey and Kyle they have found a great chemistry that not a lot of bands have. Andy and Neal are some of the musicians I think Dave references when he says there are talented people out there that have never made it. I think together they are greater than they are alone

I also wish they would play more Analog Heart songs. I know a fan asked Neal about Let Go specifically. I think this was at the start of the first leg of the tour. And he said that he was tired of that song. I guess he played it a lot back in Tulsa with Dave. And I think Dave was asked and he said you would have to ask Neal because he is the "Musical Director" So we have to blame Neal for no AH songs. Shakes fist at that damn Musical Director.

I love Andy, I love that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s with David and Neal, but in no way do I think him and David should be co-singers or anything of the kind. Above all else Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m in love with David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d love a duet, I can take a live lead or two, but even after the band is named ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d still be David Cook and ???, not MWK take 2. However I really donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ego plays a huge role with these guys (at least I hope not) and I believe theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re all happy and excited about where they are and what they get to do for a living. If (like certain fans) I thought Andy was miserable because he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get to sing lead anymore, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d say he better leave and go back to what made him happy, be it THH or something else. As I said, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see it that way, and it bothers me that some fans on DCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s own site, start protesting that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s singing lead in his own shows. I think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s absurd.
OK, sorry, needed to get that off my chest.

So much WORD to everything Jolene said ^. I'm one of the fans that is very meh on both MWK songs and Andy's voice, but I would never even dream of coming out of the woodwork and voicing that view on some of the threads at DCO. I do like how Andy's voice, and Kyle's for that matter, blends so beautifully with David's when they do backup. I also don't mind if Andy sings lead on a song or two during the concerts (particularly if its MWK, just not Anodyne because for me, personally, David pwns that song). But on any album or future album tracks - while I'm not opposed to any duets with Andy - my preference is that David sing lead. And that preference does not somehow make me a disloyal fan or that I don't appreciate how "lucky" David is to have a lead singer doing his backup vocals. I wonder if Andy had David sing lead vocals on any songs when they were doing gigs as MWK, anyone know?

I'm more of an Analog Heart girl over any of the Axium music, although I flove acoustic Somber. That one along with Pecking Order are my absolute favorite Axium songs. Analog Heart on the other hand is one album where I love just about every track. Some more than others, but I don't really skip any of them.

As for the thread's topic, I like the Yahoo interview because we get to hear a bit of what's going on in his mind in regards to the sound of the next album and we get to hear that they are "casually writing". The cover of Scattered Dreams is good, I like how they rocked it up a bit, even though I'm not a huge fan of the song in general. They certainly do tend to pick WTF!covers, LOL.

I’m one of the fans that is very meh on both MWK songs and Andy’s voice, but I would never even dream of coming out of the woodwork and voicing that view on some of the threads at DCO. I do like how Andy’s voice, and Kyle’s for that matter, blends so beautifully with David’s when they do backup. I also don’t mind if Andy sings lead on a song or two during the concerts (particularly if its MWK, just not Anodyne because for me, personally, David pwns that song). But on any album or future album tracks – while I’m not opposed to any duets with Andy – my preference is that David sing lead. And that preference does not somehow make me a disloyal fan or that I don’t appreciate how “lucky” David is to have a lead singer doing his backup vocals. I wonder if Andy had David sing lead vocals on any songs when they were doing gigs as MWK, anyone know?

I was at the concert and loved shattered dreams David and the band did a bang up job on the song. The setlist was really good the other night.

MJ thanks for posting the interview. I liked the end better than the beginning of the interview because the beginning was focused on too much S8.YMMV. But the end was great and it gave some insight for us fans on where David is going with his next record. Which is probably a ways away but it was good to hear his current thoughts.

Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re getting new songs all the time. Have I said it before: I luuuuuuuuurrrve being a David Cook fan!

You and me both! It's so exciting to know that every new show could possibly bring with it something new. I have not given up hope that we'll get to hear some more old-new songs from the unreleased album, and if later on David feels like testing some new-new material on a live audience... well that's fine by me, LOL.
But the point is it never gets boring because it's always changing, The setlist is never the same and I love the surprises we keep getting. I remember the Idol tour where we got the same songs each and every night, and I can't help thinking the changing Mavid-Dances were David's (and Michael's) small way to keep it fresh and interesting.
I love that somewhere in that big cranium, Davis has room to think about the fans who follow him from afar and make sure they feel like a part of this too.

Speaking of, I do miss the drum solo intro to BBS wtih the light up stix, but did you notice in those vids that Kyle has some sort of light show in his drum kit now? I like, vera nice.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that misses it. It's been a long time since that has been done. It wasn't done at my show on 4/2 and that was one of the highlights I was really looking forward to seeing after seeing the numerous concert vids beforehand but I still enjoyed the show anyway. :)

Oh, the raging who should sing lead on the old MWK songs debate has gotten a tad absurd, Jolene. Nobody was worried about David Lee Roth owning Hot 4 Teacher when they covered that. Makes me chuckle cuz it's not like the boys really need advice in how to proceed as a band. Hmmm, how does that one part of Feed Your Ego go...You don't like what I do, but it's not fucking about you. So go on and feed your ego....

That about sums it up for me. Whatever decision they make, I'm sure they will do whatever is best for their creative vibe and not worry too much about the old school MWK purists movement or the I love Cook and only Cook activists or whatever. Most fans are probably middle of the road on the issue anyway. I'm pretty sure we will get primarily Dave on lead vocals, but if they want to occasionally mix it up, evs. Hell, it might even be fun to throw a Kyle song in there.
