In David Cook’s latest vlog, he apologizes to his fans for his hard-to-find Tour tix. He promises there will be more to come:

After the jump, watch an ABC News interview with David, where he talks a little bit about his USO tour in Iraq. He says it will be something that he’ll “take with me for the rest of my life.”

And David is hoping to “win a lot of college students over” when be begins his college tour on February 13 in Tallahassee, FL.

Before the tour begins, he’ll be appearing at the opening of the American Idol Experience attraction at Disneyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Hollywood Studios, in Orlando on February 12. An early morning performance will be featured that day on Good Morning America.

Video after the JUMP…

i might see one of his shows ONLY if i am guaranteed a box of AI detergents!

  • laurskaos

My ticket for the York, PA show arrived in the mail today! See ya March 24th Dave!!

  • Trina

What the heck is with the Daily Anthem pimpage lately??

  • chidc

Boy, he sure loves that hat!

  • liz_dc

Boy, he sure loves that hat!

LOL truee!…but i don’t have any problem with the hat he looks sooo cute! (L)

  • templeton

I’d be happy if A Daily AntheM was the next single released.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

    Great Vlog. Great interview.

Love his new, longer hair. Explains the hat, though. He’s a low maintenance boy who hates doing his own hair.

I think if he threw it out into the audience during a show there would be fist fights. I know I’d fight for it.

    Is that an overshare?

    yes it is!

  • s3rious

Awesome! Dave’s gonna be really busy from Feb to April.

I honestly think “A Daily AntheM” is an amazing song. One of my favorites from David Cook, The Record. :thumbup_tb:

  • cheese

They can’t release A Daily Anthem – that poor song only has one verse.

I would like to know what the actual next single will be – I wish David had talked about that instead of having to appease b*tchy fans who can’t calmly deal with having to possibly wait to a couple of extra months to see their preshussss. As if David personally booked the shows and schedule. Wait until they find out that there aren’t going to be any meet & greets!

  • daenarys

The stuff he talks about in that ABC news interview is also good:

-”my goal is to get everybody leaving the show thinking they got way too much for their money…” and aiming to entertain the people at the back as much as people in the front rows.

-And the part about not wanting to p!ss off his concert promoters shows how grounded and sensible he is. And his funny response to what he’d ask for backstage.

-He describes a fantastic reason for choosing to go with a college tour. Nope, not “Chicks, man” (tm sue@dco), but harking back to his older brothers college yearbook collections.

-And then his “passion beyond music”. Eloquent

-And for the record: “I have a large skull anyway, but never a large ego”. And “get back to me in a year when I’ve changed my name to a symbol”

I began by liking David for his music choices and performances at AI, then for Analog Heart and Axium music, then he knocked his 1st major label album out of the park. Really, the fact that in all his interviews he just comes across as a decent down-to-earth guy with a great sense of humour, is such a bonus. There are tons of musicians out there whose music I like but can’t stand their interviews LOL.

  • daenarys

ETA: And his response to the USO Tour question. Yeah, I should stop now. That interview is just made of WIN! Hee.

  • Michelle

I just love watching him talk. It’s a bonus that he has interesting things to say ;)

  • jan

I’m happy he didn’t actually say “I’m sorry” because he has nothing to be sorry about. He can’t be all things to all people.

Except, Elvis was dead in 1979. ;) . Maybe that concert was one of his many post-grave sightings? Heh.

  • blissful

I think he meant Costello. But I assumed Elvis too :)

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

    I think he meant Costello.

Hm, I think he would have used his full name?

Elvis Costello was certainly touring college campuses at that time, though. I should know. I was there. Literally. :) .

  • sma11ie

They canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t release A Daily Anthem – that poor song only has one verse.

But that one verse is so awesome! I love ADAM. However, that, and LOTM are two of my favorites that I really don’t anticipate as singles. It seems like they’re going more towards Declaration or Lie, or (sigh) CBTM.

So, I just had to rewatch the ABC interview, and caught something new that was *adorable*. Right before he says he could eat with the best of them, he looks down at his TUMMEH! HAHAAHAH, that cracked my shit up. Love it. Love him.

Oh, and I liked how the interviewer introduced him by saying his life is far from ordinary. Hmm, am I reading into this, or has she been listening to some IDIFY…?

  • ShariG

Nice to know David reads the comments from his fans. I wish him nothing but the best of luck on his tour and will wait for the next tour for my chance to see him again in person. Nice interview with ABC News, too. A Daily AntheM isn’t my favorite on the CD, but it was one he wrote himself, so I like that. Regardless, it is nice to have them showcase another song other than Light On. I’m really ready for a new single. By the way, Elvis Presley died in 1977.

  • cheese

I kind of like the woolly hat and hope he burned the trilby. However if he wears that hat in Orlando, I will laugh at him.

Maybe David is on a first-name basis with Elvis Costello? OK, probably not.

  • Hazehel

Yup, he meant Elvis Costello. He mentioned him in another interview when talking about his brother’s college yearbook.

  • 2dogs

I did an audio double take on the Elvis reference as well. Then I wondered if he meant “father” instead of brother. Oh well. Everyone is entitled to a Paula moment now and then.

Seeing how good he looked in the ABC interview without it, I really hate that hat now.

  • hardkandy

If he is an Elvis Costello fan, that scores him MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR points in my book. Elvis Costello is my favorite male singer of all time.

  • Keel

Agree that he was referencing Elvis Costello (per a previous interview). That said, David isn’t so young that he wouldn’t know to clarify that when he says Elvis everyone will assume he’s referring to Elvis Presley, unless he specifies otherwise. That was a definite boo boo there.

On a Daily Anthem — it might only be one verse but what a verse it is. The best lyrics in the entire album by far (IMO) sit in that first (and only) verse. The rest of the lyrics in the song aren’t bad either. I’m a huge fan of that song and it always gets a bit dusty in my car when that song comes on right after Permanent. Yup, it’s the dust. But I agree that you can’t release ADAM as a single. Also? Too many whoooa aaooaa’s at the end. Heh.

And so much word to cheese’s second paragraph. Don’t these people have any other life to lead during the next 2 months that they have to bitch about one concert they couldn’t get tickets to?

I wonder about that because Dave’s older brother is only 11-12 years older than him. That would make him 8 or 9 in 1979. Unless David has another older brother, or his brother is REALLY smart, or David is confused, or maybe the ghost of Elvis Presley did play in 1979 for his brother when he was 9, I’m not sure.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

^^^ He said it was his brother’s “collection” of year books, which lead me to believe he actually collects them from different years–like a hobby or something.

  • May

I completely agree Keel. I absolutely love that verse! For me, the only other song that lyrically tops that verse is Makeover, which sadly will also never see a radio station. Cook has a unique gift when it comes to lyrics..he really doesn’t need songwriters in that area. Anyway, maybe they can replace the “whoa whoa whoas” with another verse….I’m kidding…well not really. But seriously, what’s up with all the “whoas”?

Elvis costello makes more sense. Maybe Elvis Costello is today’s “Elvis”?.

  • EmmaJK

To clarify, yes he did mean Elvis Costello. He’s mentioned this in previous interviews. Also, he said his brother collects old yearbooks from his college, and David had been looking through that collection.. And he looks yummy in the ABC video.

I feel badly that he felt he had to apologize for the whiny contingent. He shouldn’t have had to do that. Sweet of him, though.

ETA: Or, yeah, what MJ said.

I am a HUGE Elvis Costello fan, but even I understand that the only Elvis who gets referred to by one name only is the original flavah Elvis…

  • annoula

I personally would love ADAM as the next single…it’s always the last song I listen to on my way to work. Why does the single have to have more than one verse? Like, let’s compare that verse to an entire Katy Perry song. Seriously.

Is ADAM a song that David wrote himself (like all by himself?)…because the lyrics definitely sound like it. The melody’s catchy, it’s dramatic, it doesn’t sound exactly like other stuff. I vote yes, make it a single. As if my vote counts.

He’s so “normal” in his vlog. It’s like he’s talking to real people. It’s like he’s calling up a friend and making excuses about why he can’t do something. That’s so refreshing.

I loooooove how he calls that interviewer out for that really bad pun that I’m sure he’s never heard before. And that girlfriend question was so cheesy. It sounded like she was hitting on him on top of fishing for info. Actually, I don’t blame her for that. He IS looking especially hot.

  • May

Is ADAM a song that David wrote himself (like all by himself?)à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦because the lyrics definitely sound like it. The

He wrote ADAM before he went on American Idol. I think he had planned to put it on his 2nd solo album. It makes me really want to hear the other songs on that unreleased album.

  • DLPF

Did Elvis Presley EVER play at a college? I admit I thought he was referencing The King for a minute there. Shows my age a bit. As for winning over college students, based on my two college kids, they have no time, or inclination, to watch AI, as it involves paying attention to a TV schedule and so forth. They know nothing about last season. So he might be playing for some new listeners on this tour. There were a lot of complaints in my city this week about the Springsteen tour selling out a huge arena in 10 minutes, and apparently scalpers and brokers are scamming the system and buying up huge blocks to re-sell. Wonder if that happened with David’s venues.

  • annoula

May, that’s what I thought…it just impresses me that the song he wrote before AI is among the top three songs for me. I want his next album to be more him.

I forgot to say this before…is anyone else as obsessed as I am with the way he says the word “tour?”

  • http://www.myspace.com/revolucj2006 revolucj2006

Ohh How I would’ve loved to be on that Dason bus lol! Nice interview though, that man has one hypnotizing voice!

It sure looks that way. Here’s David’s page at StubHub:

    http://www.stubhub.com/david-cook-tickets/

Notice ticket prices range from $145 to $1000. Yes, $1000. I don’t think that’s a fan with an extra ticket. There are tickets in the same row at the Niagara Falls show as mine. I paid $35. The scalpers are asking $179 for each of them- the worst seats in the house. I told my husband that these tickets could be the best financial investment we’ve ever made if something happens and we need to sell them! (You can find the same kind of prices on eBay as well, for the college shows and the casinos.)

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I forgot to say this beforeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦is anyone else as obsessed as I am with the way he says the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“tour?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    You mean “tewer”?

  • wordnerdarchie

To clarify, yes he did mean Elvis Costello. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s mentioned this in previous interviews.

It was mentioned in an interview dated Dec. 16, 2008. In fact, that interview was posted here at this site by MJ. I looked it up in her archives. For those who want to see it in its original context just go here. Maybe Dave expected us just to remember it and know he meant Elvis Costello, but my memory isn’t that good. :tongue_wink_ee:

  • oceana

I understand fans being disappointed that the first tour is playing mostly in small college venues and many can’t get tickets. It’s a compliment to DC that fans are so eager to see him. It was sweet of him to address it in the vlog.

I agree with mj that it’s odd to use first name only for Elvis Costello. 99.9% of people will think he means “the” Elvis. Heck he could have meant Elvis Stojko, the figure skater, after all. :)

Thanks for posting the ABC interview too. I kept hearing about it but hadn’t seen it.

  • ibidrockgo

Well, if he is going to compare himself to an Elvis, I guess it’s better that it be Costello and not “the King”. :smile_wp: I can only imagine the field day his haters would have with that!

I hope the scalpers and prices don’t scare away the younger crowd he is looking to reach, so he can expand his fan base. That’s really what he needs to do to keep a sustained career going, I think.

  • sma11ie

I wonder about that because Daveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s older brother is only 11-12 years older than him. That would make him 8 or 9 in 1979. Bahahahaha… this confusion is cracking me up. I love to nitpick DC’s interviews, but that one totally went over my head. I’m showing my age/ignorance because I assumed he meant Elvis Presley but thought nothing of the 1979 reference, or the fact that David’s brother can’t possibly be old enough to have graduated in ’79. I’m like, oh the 70′s, that’s a pretty long time ago, and Adam’s older, so I guess that sounds about right… yeah, I really have no concept of decades.

Cathy– $1000??!! That’s batshit. As much as I’m happy about DC’s popularity, I hope those greedy scalpers get stuck with those tickets, or at least realize they need to drop to reasonable prices, because (I’m hoping) most DC fans aren’t that crazy (YMMV– maybe $1000 is chump change for some?). Anyway, I’m gonna listen to DC and be patient cuz, see he told me in the vlog that there’ll be more touring coming my way, haha.

  • Seachange

I, too, love A Daily AntheM — from the moment I heard the snippet. It’s so . . . him. Since it was pimped first in AI, I think it might be used there. That will be good enough for me. *Crosses fingers*

    Now, next single pleeeease!!

  • Jolene

A Daily AntheM is in my top 5 of the album (sometimes top 3, depending on the day), but it would be number 1 if it had another verse and a lot less “whoah-whoah”ing. I love that song because it’s pure David – that’s his writing style, unsimplified or diluted to be more accessible or easy to digest. I love it because it reminds me of everything I love about his old material, from Axium to Analog Heart. I know songs like these are less likely to become major hits, but dammit, I love them.
I wish Idol does use ADAM in some capacity. Or, y’know, any song from DCTR.

And yeah, one day I want to hear that entire 2nd album, with the original version of ADAM on it. I wonder what changes it went through before it got on DCTR. Who knows, maybe it had another verse once upon a time?

  • GEEK4VOCAB

I love Daily Anthem. I think it’s a great potential single.

When he talked about Elvis, I just assumed that his brother collected old yearbooks. Didn’t he say he collected them? So I assumed he meant the dead Elvis.

Is there going to be controversy over which Elvis he meant?

  • DivaE

when I watched the vlog, the only thing I kept thinking was..boy, his eyes look tired! (as well as wtf is that hat?)- but I think I’m kinda digging the longer hair in the ABC interview. Also noticed he looked a bit doughier than the album cover- and agree with someone above that he seems kinda lower-maintenance than during/after the show. Longer hair, a few extra pounds.. we love you anyway, sleepy Cookie :) Now come sing in L.A.!

  • Jolene

Is there going to be controversy over which Elvis he meant?

    LOL, It’s ElvisGate!

(as well as wtf is that hat?)- but I think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m kinda digging the longer hair in the ABC interview.

Yeah, we’re not getting rid of that hat anytime soon. I like it better than the trilby or fedora or whatever he wore on the AOL session, though. He won’t be wearing it for any major public appearance. I like the longer hair, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they give him a haircut before the GMA/Disney event.

When he doesn’t have a stylist at hand, DC is definitely a low maintenance kind of guy, so I expect lots of hats (or lots of one hat) on his college tour.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Is there going to be controversy over which Elvis he meant?

If this is “controversy,” I’ll take it.

Apparently, the boy talks in riddles. When someone says “Elvis” and leaves off the last name, only one person comes to mind.

  • noctem seizure

A Daily Anthem is a superb album-closer and will be a great song live in concert if he ever plays arenas. But, it is the furthest thing from a single.

  • sunchick

I posted on the interview already in another thread, so to sum up: new ‘do and lowkey wardrobe :thumbup_tb: :thumbup_tb: large skull but not large ego :thumbup_tb: :laugh_tb:

Is there going to be controversy over which Elvis he meant?

    LOL, Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ElvisGate!

:laugh_tb: Right on schedule, since he just put TewerVenueGate to rest. In his next vlog, maybe he will appear with his brother’s yearbook collection, and flip to the page that reveals the true identity of the Elvis in question. Dum dum dum! And then ElvisGate will have left the building. (Okay, I might have stretched the joke too far but I couldn’t resist. )

Ohhh, an ADAM discussion! Methinks I will take the opportunity to geek out because it’s my favoritestestest song on the album. *singing* Break your neck for some substance, this is temporary sanity, an exercise in vanity… See, he told me that I’m everything, so I sing along. Often. Occasionally at the top of my lungs. And I kind of know it by heart so sometimes it’s even sans iPod. It’s super cathartic after a bad day. I don’t mind that technically there’s only one verse. I think it’s kind of plays like a mantra and the song structure is non-traditional for that reason. As for the whoa oh ohs, what better way to speak to the universality of music and the way it transcends language and boundaries? It’s like, sometimes, words aren’t even needed, and stuff. [/geeking out]

  • laurskaos

Well as long as we’re geeking out about A Daily AntheM, let me just say that I LOVE the guitar solo on the second half of the whoa-ohs and CAN’T WAIT to see Neal tear that sh** up live! Also my fave lyrics from the album come from that 1st and only verse: “So long to the ordinary day, wrought with ficticious tales of how there’s any other way.” Oh how I love your wordnerdiness David Cook.

I also have a feeling (or maybe just hoping) this song will provide some sweet crying Cookie moments when the crowds sing at the top of their lungs.

  • SashaB

    Awesome! He’s a peach. Really.

I can’t wait to see his new hats (tribly, woolie caps, baseball hats) on the tour.

    Get packing, DC.

  • leome

Sweet that he likes Costello, but man, there’s only one Elvis that can go just by the first name ;)

I think A Daily Anthem is a song to be played live, not so much for radio. I’d be surprised if he didn’t close the shows with it.

  • Michelle

Loved seeing him in the interview and the vlog. Love listening to him talk. The man continues to be grounded and well-spoken. I thought it was considerate of him to address the complaining throngs. Don’t you want him doing what he wants to do? That’s the only way we’re gonna love him, just like he is. He knows what he’s doing, let him do. I am willing to spend about $500, travel, and take time off work to see him at one of the casino shows. I hope. My friend is going with me and she’s doing the same. And we work together in the same dept at our work! haha. BUT if I couldn’t do that, I would wait patiently. Post a complaint on his official site? Probably never. I WILL get to see him, many times if I have my way!

I kinda skipped over the “Elvis played there in 1979″ comment cause I went HUH?! And briefly wondered if he meant Costello but decided probably not and maybe he got a date mixed up and and and who cares. I’ll just listen to his voice….hee.

YAY for the David Cook & EEB Tewer 2009! YES YES YES!

LOL on the Elvis thing. Okay, the yearbook was 1979, if Elvis did come to that campus maybe….aw never mind any excuse I can think of for him is too lame.

EXCEPT, maybe for a young guy Elvis Castello IS Elvis. LOL.

I can’t believe I re-watched the interview just so I could get a better handle on what he actually said. It is an awesome interview though.

Love the hair, love the current hat that covers that hair and the plaid shirt. I’m so happy for him for this opportunity for new fans!

Sorry, I see this horse was already dead in prior comments.

  • CookifiedTexan

Actually, just to add a little dimension to the ElvisGate discussion…
Even though Elvis PRESLEY died in 1977, he did in fact perform at colleges before then. My mom saw him perform at the University of Houston at some point between 1974-1976. And there were upcoming dates where he was scheduled to perform at colleges, such as INDIANA STATE. That show was supposed to take place in September 1977. Obviously, the King had been dead for a month by then.

Just a little extra info for you Elvis fans out there :D

I cannot WAIT for this tour to commence. Only eight more days until Biloxi!!

I can’t sing my way out of a paper bag and when I hear all these fans singing along to LO or whatever, I would have to shut up because I would scare anyone away. But ADAM, I can get away with it. There is something about that song that just makes me happy and I can do the whoa oh ohs thing and sound pretty good and I actually do sing along because I don’t have to remember too many lyrics.

You see that is why I think it is very cleaver and he wants you to “sing along” because you can get away with it and you don’t need words to sing along. You simply CANNOT not sing along. It’s also pure David Cook if you ask me.

I hate the wolly hat (generally hate hats especially the fedora hat for that matter). That cowboy hat–well, I liked that one but that was special. I can live with that one but I’ll settle for a baseball cap if he has to wear a hat and be low maintenance–which he SO is! Such a typical guy isn’t he?

    Cook is just precious.

Nice to see all the ADAM love, god that’s a great song! One of the best on the cd, but there are so many to choose from.

I love the hats and I love down-to-earth low-maintenance David. That’s my kind of guy. Mellow, gentle, poetic, etc. But he does have a big drive in him to succeed. Anyone notice his Brad Pitt comment in the ABC interview? I guess he sense greatness in himself. John Lennon said he knew when he was a child that he was a genius and would be famous. LOL. It sounds cocky when you say that stuff so you better have the goods to back it up, which JL did and I suspect DC does too. (Don’t worry I’m not comparing him to John Lennon, or Brad Pitt, or Elvis (any Elvis, take your pick) LOL.

The CD came out in November and I forgot that the single LO came out in September! From DCO:
    SEPTEMBER 19, 2008, 10:37 PM
The new single name is officially announced….drum roll please…….”LIGHT ON”
Hope everyone loves it as much as we do!

Which means it’s been almost 5 months! No wonder it feels like a new single is overdue. Come on RCA, get it together! Unveil another great song and let the promotions begin. Gee I’m going to be pissed if they wait six months. Not when there are so many great songs on the cd. It’s a shame not to put them out there.
