Thanks MJ, for the thread.  It sounds like it’s going to be a great day in KC for David.  The 5k, meeting the runners as well as some of his sports’ idols, then some fun on the diamond later that day.  Must be tough to be him, lol. ;)

For everyone attending, dress for the weather & stay hydrated.

This sounds like an awesome event with a great lineup for the run.  We know that David will do his best whether he comes in first or not.

    Thanks mj!

You know, I bet David is every bit as excited to be participating in this MLB Celebrity/Legends game as his upcoming performances in Hawaii and overseas.
As far as the 5k run for charity…that doesn’t surprise me one bit.
I love DC as a musician, but love him just as much for his charitable heart!

I think he just wants to stalk George Brett and those other baseball players.

Very true, wordnerdarchie – probably a weekend full of ‘pinch me’ moments…David was like a kid in a candy store when he played the Home Run Derby in St. Louis in 2009, meeting the baseball greats who were there.

Cool to have confirmation that David will be running in the 5K (and handing out medals), not only playing in the All Star/Celebrities softball game – Also nice how this Press Release focused on his participation and history with MLB in Kansas City, along with his recent music  – and good to know that 100% of the proceeds go to the three cancer charities.

It sounds like quite an event – hope these few days in Hawaii allow for some recharging for this schedule. Getting to do all this in his hometown, with friends and family able to be present is just icing, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

    IMO.

And here’s David Cook’s tour/production manager for his appearances in July.  He just tweeted.

David Cook Rehearsals, and off to Hawaii in the morning…

I’m running at this event…so excited David will be there!

That’s super, dogncatmom – are you in the timed run in the morning? I hope you have good weather for the run, and for the whole weekend!

  • Anonymous

Yes I’m in the run in the morning, but I won’t be timed, I’m slow as molasses!  It’s my only opportunity to be a part of the all star events here and I’m very much looking forward to it and even more so now that David will be there!

Thanks for your wish for good weather!

  • Incipit

Timed or not, dogncatmom, kudos to you for getting involved, putting some skin in the game beyond a donation – the MLB weekend sounds like it will be a lot of fun…love to hear about it after – Enjoy!

dogcatmom, I’ve run several 5k’s now (2 at RfH and several local events) and I’m not very fast either.  It’s not about the times, it’s about the participation, and the experience.  Have a blast!  Hydrate well in the day leading up to the event, & don’t start out too fast.

I’ve done several 5k’s and yes, it is about the experience.  I really don’t care about my time; I just want to be there and support the charities.

Naaah, it’s about running faster than your companions. Right, wordnerdarchie?

LOL!  Apparently I haven’t achieved that goal…….. yet.

ETA: Thanks Sassycatz, for reminding me – got to head out to run 4 miles before it gets too hot.

Are Idols paid for these?  Seems like Idols are a go-to bunch for charities.  My guess is they are cheap and/or free, but have some name recognition.

Paid? More likely David Cook would pay to play in this game…. I don’t know about the running though.

I think it depends on the charity, actually.  Since Stand up 2 Cancer is involved which he’s supported in the past I would think he’s donating his time but I don’t know that for a fact.  But I should mention that donations are still being taken for the Race for Hope, which David has run the last few years.  He’s also done a concert the last 2 years in conjunction with the race weekend where all of the profits are donated to the charity.  If you wish to donate here’s the link.

It depends. If they perform at say, a gala event/charity dinner, then they almost always would get paid. To play in the MLB game? I would think they get some sort of appearance fee, but it’s probably not a large fee.

What an awesome event for Cookie to participate in.  Performing and running!!  Such a wonderful guy.

I hope that I get tubies of both the running and performing.

    Yep entitled fan!

I dedicate my 400-post to my favorite idol, the reason I came on this site like 2 years ago. Hope everything goes well with his career, personal life and also hope for more fans like he has right now. He agrees with my wishes http://goo.gl/p1c2t, lol.

I am always proud to be a David Cook fan. He never stops surprising me with the charity. I think it says a lot about a man that could just donate money to charity causes but instead will run the race, sing at an event or visit hospitals. Someone who really cares about ‘others’
