David Cook just signed an endorsement deal with the footwear company Skechers. Carrie Underwood signed a similar deal in 2005.

ETA: Check out Skechers ads from Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe and Robert Downey Jr.

From the press release:

With exclusive worldwide rights to advertise footwear using Cook’s image through December 2009, SKECHERS will feature the 25-year-old singer in various SKECHERS’ styles through a campaign that will reflect his personality, interests and appeal. Launching in Fall ’08, the campaign coincides with the “PopTarts American Idols Live! Tour 2008,” and the debut of David’s first post-Idol album on 19 Recordings/RCA Records. The SKECHERS Cook campaign will include print, outdoor and in-store.

“I have always viewed SKECHERS as a cool company, so I am excited to be a part of their campaign,” said Cook, who proved his enduring popularity by breaking an all-time Billboard chart record with 11 songs debuting on the Hot 100 in a single week after winning American Idol. “They’ve had some sensational singers like Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera as they were starting out and it will be great to be a part of the SKECHERS roster.”

Lots of free shoes for David! Does this mean no more pointy-toed boots?

  • jan

Noooo! I like the pointy-toed boots – don’t ditch them DC.

  • IGetCranked

I love this for him but he doesn’t seem to be a sneakers kinda guy. He needs a tight jeans endorsement..

  • Trina

Wow wow wow. I remember going to Manhattan one evening to see a show and I saw a humungous Carrie Underwood billboard for her Skechers campaign. I think I’ll hold off on worrying about whether 19E is taking care of him..

I don’t think he’ll have to worry about buying golf clubs that have sales tax now :laugh_tb:

IGetCranked Skeckers isnt just sneakers, they also have casual and dress shoes. In the press release picture it looks like he might not be wearing sneakers.

  • poporange

I guess it is good for him but IMO not happy about too many of them seems like a PR tool.
Next going to tatoe “Drink Coke” on him?

  • AInoob

How nice for David. I don’t know what company makes his elf boots, but they should hook him up with an endorsement deal.

  • IGetCranked

    Oh, that makes more sense.

  • AInoob

OMG, I love that picture! HOT! And that jacket is fabulous.

  • Trina

If you go to Yahoo they have links to all different sizes of the picture

Looking at the super big one I think those ARE pointy toed boots LOL

  • http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=84731174 purplesmile

So, yeah, does Skechers make elf shoes, too? LMAO!

Way to go, Cookie! I remember back in Carrie’s time, her Skechers commercials were being shown back here, too. The local Cookie fans will be ecstatic. :)

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Does this mean no more pointy-toed boots?

Hehehe. More like the global debut of the brand-new Skechers pointy-toed boot.

  • BootStar

THRILLED for David, but I sure hope he doesn’t ditch the cowboy boots completely. Love (most) of the boots, and they make anybody look taller and thinner, not to mention they’re incredibly comfortable.

Can’t imagine he’ll perform in Skechers in any event. Sure haven’t seen Carrie wearing any on the stage lately! ;-)

  • spritely

IGetCranked: He needs a tight jeans endorsement..

    lol! Yeppers.

This is fabulous for him. I’m so happy for him–now that I have been given some hope by you guys that this may not mean the end of the pointy-toed boots. I love the ptb.

Eta: The press release says Robert Downey Jr. was the last male (2002) to be signed by Skechers. Love him, too. Oh, and yummy photo. ::nods::

  • Jolene

So, when they say global and worldwide, do they really mean that every country in which Skechers is advertised, will have Cook in magazines and such? Because damn, what I wouldn’t give to see his face in my local teeny mags. *Flails happily around*
I’m so very happy for him. And for me too! More pictures of DC, Woot! This sounds like a very nice deal, and he’s signed until December 2009?! That’s quite the long commitment, isn’t it? Shows great faith in his star power. Also – RDJ’s shoes are not the worst ones to fill!
I’m very, very happy. This is GREAT news.

  • BootStar

Okay, I feel much better. They do have some pretty cool, non-sneaker styles. This one even comes in size 13 (and a 14, too, if his feet start to spread). ;-)

    Skechers

Does this mean we’ll never see these again (have we seen these since TWIK at the Nokia)?

    http://www.bootstaronline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=281

  • IGetCranked

They have giant posters of Carrie’s sketchers ads sitting all over my mall. I think they may have to put David’s behind bars or something because I have a feeling they may get molested.

Not by me though, I’m above that sort of thing… :cool_wp:

  • littlepark

Are we allowed to drool over pictures? Nice pic. :D

  • spritely

BootStar (nice name for this thread!), I flove those boots. He got so much fan-flack over them, though, that I thought he hadn’t worn them in public (heh) since that British consulate event. He had them on for TWIK at the Nokia? I didn’t know that. Yay. ::nods approvingly of David for saying, “I’ll not only sing what I damn well please, I’ll wear what I want, too::

The boy loves shoes as much as Carrie Bradshaw does. Sex in the city AND the country. This deal makes sense.

Edited, because Carrie Underwood did not star in an HBO series.

  • yf7184

OK what’s gonna happen to his converse? Ur, anyhoe, I guess you are right, Sketchers is getting ready to debut their lie of pointy-toe boots. Cool.

  • BootStar

spritely, yes, I’m pretty sure those boots (I think they first appeared during Neil Diamond week), are what he’s wearing during TWIK. I just went to watch my iTunes video and, though it’s hard to get a good close-up with those damn Swaybots obscuring the view, I can definitely make out some red on the tops of those boots. (Unless it’s the reflection off some red overhead lighting?). They were part of the Rockstar Collection, so maybe somebody thought he was too full of himself wearing them, but I loved them–for performances anyway.

Maybe Skechers can do a cheap knock-off?

  • spritely

BootStar, yeah, from the looks of the Skechers’ website, they need some actual cowboy boots, not just those shin-high things.

  • jpfan

Cook is getting the Carrie deals. This is the first male winner that they can do that with. Watching his career will be like watching the roll out of the new breakfast burrito at MacDonald’s. Usual culprits writing songs for album , check, endorsement deals check, Daughtry/Carrie promo, check. Platinum sales (should happen).

  • sleepyinsomniac

I don’t think he’ll ditch the elf boots completely, but at least we’ll get to see him wearing something else for a change.

And if his career trajectory is similar to Carrie’s then I’m going to be happy about it. It would be so great if the much anticipated November release becomes like Some Hearts, the record that just won’t die.

  • waffle

This is interesting. I’m excited to see David’s ads and whether he’ll be successful in pushing sales of Skechers. But since the brand Skechers to me is synonymous to sneakers, the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this post was, perhaps Archie would have been a better fit to endorse Skechers?

  • crzyshrk

    I’m sorry you guys..but Cook..Sketchers…*snickers*

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

It’s highly possible that he would be pushing other footwear, outside of sneakers. Most people aren’t as aware that SKECHERS sells more than that particular style of shoe. Maybe that’s the goal.

  • k4dc

Life-sized (or larger) posters of David hanging in the mall? Those will be disappearing after hours in a heartbeat. (I think hubby will disapprove if I hang them on my ceiling, though…)

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I am happy as it does seem to indicate 19 is quite committed to him. And there are tons of photos out there of him in sneakers. All boot and no sneak makes Dave a dull boy :P

  • crzyshrk

Am I the only one who thinks this is a terrible idea? At least 19 could’ve chosen a better brand. Sketchers always reminds me of bubble gum pop people. I would’ve died laughing if Daughtry had to do Sketchers.

  • aly

I’m not so sure either crzyshrk. Could of been something that
suits him better. What kinda of money are we talking here?

  • Jolene

Robert Downey Jr. did Skechers ads, and what I’ve seen of his was very very far from “bubblegum pop”. The press release gives me hope they’ll do right by David, with this:

SKECHERS will feature the 25-year-old singer in various SKECHERS’ styles through a campaign that will reflect his personality, interests and appeal.

Nothing about David is bubblegum, and if the Disney ad didn’t make him pop, I don’t think Skechers will either.

  • http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=84731174 purplesmile

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sorry you guys..but Cook..Sketchersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦*snickers*

Well, Cookie says it’s too late to apologize (at the 1:10 mark)… :laugh_tb: “Get it?” ;)

  • Tony

LMAO! Skechers? Are you kidding me? What’s next? A cameo in High School Musical 3?

  • crzyshrk

David Cook seems more pop to me now. I’ve only heard him sing TOML on Radio Disney.

FYI..you know David Archuleta was offered a role in High School Musical 3 but turned it down? He knows what’s good for him! lol

  • elle

This is interesting. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m excited to see Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ads and whether heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be successful in pushing sales of Skechers. But since the brand Skechers to me is synonymous to sneakers, the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this post was, perhaps Archie would have been a better fit to endorse Skechers?

waffle I’m with you. That’s exactly what I thought. I have to believe if anyone at Skechers had actually watched the show and seen Archie’s hot kicks each week, they would have chosen him. I mean even Cook fans have to admit Archie was the one with the diff sneakers night after night and even now on tour. It was probably a contractual done deal with 19 before they even knew who won. But hey, Archie’s endorsements will come :rolleyes_tb:

  • snuffles

Hmmm…seems like he’s getting the Carrie Underwood treatment. Whether you dig the product or not, that’s just going to give him ten times more publicity when his album comes out. Because if there are TV commercials involved, I think it’s guaranteed his first single will be playing during it.

Carrie had Sketcher and Hershey’s endorsements the same time her album came out and I think it helped massively.

  • crzyshrk

Yeah with all the money 19 is spending on Cook there’s no way he won’t go platinum.

  • BootStar

I dunno. Matt Dillon, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe and David….Archuleta? Sorry, I don’t think so, but YMMV. My guess is with Cook they’re trying to appeal to an older (shoe) demographic than what Archie would attract.

This part is the bottom line, though: “The global endorsement agreement was signed with 19 Merchandising Limited on behalf of Mr. Cook.” Not sure Cook really had any say in the matter one way or the other, since he’s probably contractually obligated, so he might as well go along for the ride (and the free shoes!).

  • Jolene

It was probably a contractual done deal with 19 before they even knew who won.

If Skechers wanted Archie, they would’ve gotten Archie. I don’t think anyone could make them sign Cook if they had another plan in store.
Also – I doubt anyone signs endorsement deals without actually knowing who the endorser is.
This isn’t some little bonus perk that comes with winning Idol, and from the press release it seems they have a very good idea of who David is and why they want him as their face for the next 18 months.

Would DA have gotten the same offer if he had won? Maybe yes, maybe no, who can say? Guess we’ll never know.

  • jpfan

“LMAO! Skechers? Are you kidding me? Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s next? A cameo in High School Musical 3?”

There’s a role available since Archie turned the job down. Maybe Skechers wanted Archie and he turned them down. He takes his music pretty seriously.

ETA = The benefits of not winning Idol is you don’t have to do stuff you don’t want to do. I’m sure Daughtry has been offered tons of cheeesy endorsement deals. Props to him for not doing any.

  • cookcricket

    I’m happy for DC!

Who’s to say Daughtry would have turned down Skechers if given the chance..

I think this is a great thing! Really now, who would turn down publicity? Am I missing something here?

This probably belongs in the headlines thread, but DA may have turned down HS musical because he wants to make an album…

  • BootStar

The benefits of not winning Idol is you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to do stuff you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to do.

Well, Daughtry finished fourth. Coming in as the runner-up, I think David A. is pretty much at the mercy of the decision-makers at 19E, for the time being anyway.

  • Trina

Just like with the Disney promo he just shot it was said it must have been set up in advance when they thought Archie was going to win. If they wanted him to do that Disney promotion, he would have done it. If Skechers wanted Archie for this campaign they would have got him. Did you ever think maybe they want to promote their dress shoe or boot line and Archie wouldnt’t have been a good fit? Skechers isn’t just sneakers and bubblegum ad campaigns. I really doubt David will have any complaints when the money and exposure comes in for this deal.

This probably belongs in the headlines thread, but DA may have turned down HS musical because he wants to make an albumà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

What was he offered? A cameo? I’m pretty sure a brief cameo won’t stop him from making an album. If he turned it down it’s possible 19 had a say in it for some reason since they are his managers.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

A reminder to keep this conversation CIVIL, please.

  • jpfan

I don’t think they can force the winner to do things. I’m sure Taylor said No to tons of stuff and well, you know how that worked out. I’m just kidding about Archie turning down these deals. Cook is a 19 company guy and this is a smart deal for him.

  • sleepyinsomniac

Robert Downey, Jr. for Skechers here. As such, I have high hopes for Cook.

Also, I personally don’t think him endorsing a particular brand, a global one at that, would hurt him. Since when has shilling for a corporation been the basis for whether or not a musician is good? I think Cook’s attitude is right, all these things are ancillary, it’s the upcoming record that counts. Obviously, YMMV.

Finally, I think the thing with Cook that makes him marketable is that not only is he a vocal talent, he is also very attractive. I think this is another reason why someone say like Daughtry wouldn’t have gotten an offer like this anyway. The mass market appeal of Cook in terms of looks will only serve to help him in that sense.

PS. Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Robert Downey, Jr… I’d still say good company there.

  • EmmaJK

David Cook seems more pop to me now. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve only heard him sing TOML on Radio Disney.

I’ve heard the song on AC, HAC and Top 40. Although, his next single, I’m sure, will be a radio friendly “poppish” song.

Maybe Skechers wanted Archie and he turned them down. He takes his music pretty seriously.

As does Cookie. Endorsement deals are nothing to sneeze at. LOTS of money to be made there. And, Robert Downey, Jr. doesn’t seem cheesy to me. I seriously doubt Archie (or his father) would turn down any endorsement offers.

I’m thrilled for him. So many good things happening to someone so deserving. His pic will be everywhere!! :)

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I don’t think they can force the winner to do things. I’m sure Taylor said No to tons of stuff and well, you know how that worked out.

Taylor Hicks was the center of a massive Ford campaign that summer. He kept pretty busy–he had a ton of publicity when he first won Idol.

The publicity and the money. Oh yeah, and the MONEY are a good thing for Cook.

  • Jolene

Another perspective: David is (obviously) a guy, thus promoting the men’s line, and as the endorser has to appeal to the male demographic. YMMV, but I actually think Skechers has a much better chance of getting through to guys with him, than they would with DA.

Look at the list of male celebs they had as endorsers in the past – not so bubblegum, and hardly pop. Matt Dillon, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe? David is the first AI and the first musician on that respectable list, but he’s still on that list, and not on the female endorser one, last time I checked.

  • smartcookie

How funny. I own four or five pairs of Skechers and I didn’t know they were supposed to be sneakers makers. None of mine are sneakers.

I don’t see a disconnect between Cook and the Skechers brand. They want “cool” and with Cook, that’s exactly what they get.

  • crzyshrk

How come I don’t remember seeing any of the other male endorsers? I still believe there’s a difference between good publicity and bad publicity especially for a “rocker”. I think Archie turned down HSM3 b/c his fans were crying NO!! haha

  • BootStar

The publicity and the money. Oh yeah, and the MONEY are a good thing for Cook.

Yeah, really. The poor guy is on the record as having had a hard time paying his rent on time and having to take handouts from his parents to pay for gas prior to auditioning for Idol, so I don’t see how anybody can fault him for signing a contract with Skechers. It’s not like he signed a contract with PayLess Shoes (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

IIRC, Cook also said on one of the earliest BTS interviews (when he was about as far from being a frontrunner as anybody on Season 7, IMHO), that he was glad to be in a position to finally be paying off some of the debt he’d acquired in trying to pursue a career in music. I say: Take the money and run (in your new Skechers)!

  • gingerly

On the surface it could seem a bit cheezy but he’s in good company and that press release photo is nothing but cool. I think he’ll be fine.

  • sleepyinsomniac

Look at the list of male celebs they had as endorsers in the past – not so bubblegum, and hardly pop. Matt Dillon, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe? David is the first AI and the first musician on that respectable list, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still on that list, and not on the female endorser one. Last time I checked.

Great point Jolene. This would only serve to expand Cook’s male demo which is good for him. Obviously, they take a very different marketing tack when it comes to their men’s line as seen with the list of endorsers that they have. It’s more of the serious artist type rather than the bubble gum pop cheesy type. And it makes me happy to know that they are looking at Cook as a serious artist type.

  • smartcookie

I thought Archie turned down HSM because filming was the same time as the AI tour and 19 said no way he could be away from the tour. I thought sure that was the story at the time. No?

  • bluejeans

Maybe I’m naive but how can this be a bad publicity for him? He’s never gonna be a “hard rawker!!!” anyway. He’s the American Idol. I’m sure even David himself knows what comes with that. As long as he puts out a great record, I doubt most people are gonna care that he has an endorsement deal with Skechers. Everything goes back to the music in the end, though I like that he’s making some money through this. :)

  • Jolene

I thought Archie turned down HSM because filming was the same time as the AI tour and 19 said no way he could be away from the tour.

That’s what I heard too, at the time. Of course, now the news is coming from Team Archuleta, but I don’t believe his vocal coach (who’s the one spreading the word that he turned down HSM3) gave a reason why he did.

Anyway, not so sure that’s the right decision. I believe he’s being geared towards the teen market (only going by the magazines he’s been featured in so far), and even a cameo in HSM3 would have gone a long way for him with that crowd.

  • BootStar

Matt Dillon in an old Skechers ad.

Not bad. I don’t think Cookie has anything to worry about.

  • wfowfowfo

I, for one, vote for the Gap boxer/brief ad campaign…

….tap tap tap ….anyone out there?

  • JJ123

The athletic shoe ads are usually super cheesy but their dress show line is really nice and the ads (like that Matt Dillon one) are usually pretty cool. Nowadays it doesn’t matter…..celebrities endorse anything and everything, nobody cares!! Look at all the celebs pushing ProActiv…. I would imagine most people wouldn’t want to go on TV to talk about their zits but if you show them the money they’ll definitely do it!! Bottom line….it’s not going to make a difference in anything but his bank account so good for him!

  • jpfan

    Okay, let’s review:

    Taylor – cars
    Kat – acne cream
    Cookie – shoes
    Elliott – weiners

    Makes sense so far.

  • abbysee

Eh, it’s a little weird, but it’s exposure. I don’t know what that means exactly. I have a pair of sketchers, and I just purchased a pair for my 11 year old daughter…..didn’t know Matt, or Robert indorsed them so it can’t hurt or really help David more than just lining his pockets. There ads don’t create alot of buzz. I remember the scorn Taylor received after his Ford commercials, so it’s a two edged sword. I am sure both Taylor and Cookie appreciated the money. Bottom line.

  • spritely

The Matt Dillon ad, the RD Jr. ad, and today’s Cookie photo are very cool and masculine. (I haven’t seen the other ads.) Given how well DC photographs in those kinds of scenes–that is, unsmiling and intense, directly engaging the camera–I’d say Skechers picked pretty perfectly.

  • BootStar

And Rob Lowe was still on The West Wing when he signed his contract.

“Rob Lowe is more than a good-looking guy with a cool image,” began SKECHERS CEO and chairman Robert Greenberg. “He has the ability to evolve. Rob’s shed the lighthearted and carefree persona from his youth for a more mature and sophisticated image. And with that change comes power, a power that is evident in his acting on the successful television show `The West Wing’ as well as in his commanding presence.

“He’s smooth and refined, yet down to earth and real. He’s a natural match for our Collection line, and we expect that his recognizable image will further build the SKECHERS brand worldwide.”

Sounds a lot like Cookie to me!

(And if I do say so myself, Mr. Lowe was looking mighty fine!)

You’re not naive. This is not bad publicity. It’s probably one of the best ways he can start out post-Idol, while we’re anxiously anticipating the album….

  • tinawina

This is the kind of development that inspires much fan hand-wringing but IMO makes no difference whatsoever. LOL. Bottom line for Cooke, Archie, any of them, is if they make good radio friendly songs in their chosen genre then they will have success. If Kelly’s career can survive the hot steaming pile of shit that was “From Justin To Kelly” then I hardly think a little Sketchers ad is going to matter much. :laugh_tb:

  • spritely

Erased ’cause the Rob Lowe pic is up above. ^

Weird that the photo mostly crops out the shoes!

    You’re so right.

Weird that the photo mostly crops out the shoes!

So true, and so strange! I mean, it’s an awesome picture of Cookie, but you can’t actually see much of the shoes. It’s funny that that’s the picture they chose.

Ah well, who’s looking at the shoes when you can stare at that face?
Maybe Skechers should rethink this after all. LOL!

  • baxter

In the US the two largest advertiser in all media forms are alcohol and autos. Well you can take alcohol right off the table. No way is 19 gunna let Cook shill Budweiser, no matter how much DC would probabaly kill for the chance…LOL. When you consider that Ford is one of the largest sponsors of AI, if Cook were to sign with an automaker it would be Ford, but I doubt they are going to drop TOby Keith for Cook, not to mention that Ford is hemorraging $$$ right now and their sales, along with all other automakers, is in the toilet. Taylor’s Ford ad was for a specific period of time for a specific reason…EOY Closeouts, that’s why it ran every 2 secs on TV.

I think this is a great endorsment deal. Why wouldn’t it be??? His face will be plastered in malls from California to NYC, he will be in every magazine imaginable, and if budgeted, he could be on your tv between ads for Dove soap and Johnsonville Brats. This is a safe deal that brings both Skeetchers, AI and David Cook a ton of exposure, not to mention pads DC’s wallet in a HUGE way. This deal certainly never hurt Carrie Underwood, why would it hurt DC??

For those of you that don’t think this is a good idea, what would be a good endorsment deal with a wide range of exposure?? Cowboy boots and guitars are niche markets???

Sketchers meets a whole host of demographic targets….men and women, ages 15-40, countrywide. It’s not like KC First Bank and Trust is going to help his exposure a great deal, only his wallet.

Also, could this be the magazine shoot that he went to in LA right before the tour??? His ads hit right when his album drops….it’s a win/win!!

  • JudyOhio

I really don’t like that hairdo. They started that on DC and DA toward the last of the season. Looks like Ed Grimley or a Dairy Queen peak. The don’t seem to be sporting that look on tour. Their hair runs the gambit between spikey and messy, and that looks pretty good….but that PEAK top….no no no, lol

  • littlepark

Jolene, lol. Yeah, apparently Skechers hasn’t caught on yet that it’s going to take all 13 and a half inches of those feet to get our attention down to the shoes. :biggrin_wp:

  • ShabbyChic

My first thought was of Cookie’s ugly boots and how they don’t go with Sketchers at all. Seems like an odd pairing.

  • BootStar

LOL, those boots come in “bone” (in addition to brown). Maybe Cook can replicate his “bit it, like hard” moment when he wore those Tom Jones boots during the “Shout to the Lord” rehearsals for IGB!

  • gingerly

LOL, those boots come in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“boneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (in addition to brown). Maybe Cook can replicate his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“bit it, like hardà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ moment when he wore those Tom Jones boots during the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Shout to the Lordà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ rehearsals for IGB!

They don’t call him sugarfoot for nothing :laugh_tb:

  • IGetCranked

    Okay, letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s review:

    Taylor – cars
    Kat – acne cream
    Cookie – shoes
    Elliott – weiners

    Makes sense so far.

ROTFL jpfan! Are you still thinking about the Elliott rumors?

The Skechers deal makes me very very happy for David. Carrie’s ads were everywhere and if they do the same for DC it’ll be a surefire way to keep him in the public consciousness till his album drops. The brand hits the right demo too imo (I own a few pairs, lol).

And yes, the money :) Music sales are always a gamble but the endorsement deal is cash in baby’s pocket right NOW. I’m impressed that his contract runs till the end of 2009. Nice job by his management getting that kind of commitment.

  • littlesparrow

    >>FYI..you know David Archuleta was offered a role in High School Musical 3 but turned it down? He knows whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s good for him! lol

  • littlesparrow

I’ll believe Archie was offered a part is HSM3 when I hear it from Disney. They were rushing production to get the movie done before the strike so it’s doubtful that they were willing to put everything aside to get Archie a cameo.

And it is beyond offensive to claim that every positive benefit that Cook reaps from his Idol win is something that was set aside for Archie or turned down by him first. Cook won the title, came close to breaking Billboard records, and is doing well with his single. There is every reason to prefer him as an advertising candidate over the runner-up.

Huh. Back in art class, they used to tell us that in images the eye is naturally drawn to point of any triangle.

The photographer seems to have decided that the main interest in this photo is . . . somewhat above the feetses.

  • AInoob

LOL, maturin, yeah, definitely odd considering the feet should be the focal point of a shoe ad. But I am certainly not complaining. Props to the photog!

  • maturin

Adding, I can’t believe I fed a thread of eight dozen comments about his shoe deal. Forehead smack. I srsly just needed to zero in on the pictorial asset.

But reading now the earlier comments, will note. Oscar Winner, Emmy Winner, Oscar nominee, general men of hotness. This is nice company!

    Have a grape.

  • BootStar

I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait till he stops wearing those pointy boots!

Oh, don’t get your hopes up too high. Get a load of these kicks! (What?? I like pointy-toed shoes!)

  • spritely

Okay now, BootStar, those just made me giggle.
I wonder if, when he’s walking barefoot, his toes all point up by now?

  • Colleen

Congratulations Cookie on the nice endorsement. You certainly deserve to reep the big rewards. Can’t wait to see you at the mall.

Question: How much will Cookie get for the ad campaign?
My gutt guess is that DC will be paid at least $1 Million for the Sketchers’ endorsement.
Also, is the campaign a flat rate or is it tied to sales performance?

Personally, I hope it is enough for David to buy a house in LA or Hollywood. He stated in a previous interview that he wanted to find a place to live, a dog and a car. Hope you get your wish!!

I tried to search this information online and found an article stating the Sketchers’ advertising budget for 2007 was $100 Million.
    http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-166956193.html

Any speculation about the amount? Given the diverse readers on this blog, I am hoping someone will shed some light on my curious question. Cause I can always count on this group to share the information!!

  • Layla

Well, I’m a hopin’ he gets paid a shitload for it. It’s a respectable endorsment, and I am happy for him.

Seeing him do so well right out of the gate makes me proud in the same way as when my children or family members do well. Does that make sense? It’s like and experiencing the making” of a superstar of someone that we “knpw”.

Now…enough with all the endorsment stuff Cookie and get your pretty ass in the studio and make that record!!

  • Colleen

    Layla,
I agree that watching Cookie succeed makes me feel like a proud Mom too. He entertained us and evolved into a Superstar as we happily watched him each week. We cheered, nutured and voted for him as he endured the hurdles and judges.
Every time I watch him do something extraordinary, like wearing the bracelet for the sick girl or honoring his family, I have to stand up and applaud his character. Not many 25 year old Men display that kind of mettle these days.

I’ve already pre-ordered the David Cook CD and can’t wait for it to arrive.

Getting an endorsement from Skechers is fantastic. The more he’s out there the better and let me tell you it’s damm good money that a person would be hard-pressed to turn down. Cook’s style is really different. I mean don’t you just love that scarf hanging out of his back pocket?? I especially like the long ones but on anyone else I would say WTF is that??? He just makes everything look cool. Every guy wants to be Cook right now–at least the cool guys.

Archie was approached about doing a short bit on HSM3 right after the finale but Disney was shooting it in August and would take about 3 weeks and Archie was going on AI tour. AI stepped in and reminded him of the contract he signed which obliged him to do the tour as all the top 10 were obliged. All the venues were already booked sometime ago and announced they weren’t going to let him take off for 3 weeks or postpone it for his little side deal. So Archie didn’t “turn it down” because AI told him “no way.” Cook’s deal will not interfere with the tour at all.

  • Thea

No problem with the Skechers deal in principle (whatever Robert D Jr endorsed I have no problem with DC endorsing). But all the shoes in those ads are really UGLY. I hope they find something better for Cookie.

  • dcfan21

Do they make size 13 sketchers? :D

  • rachael1
