Here’s what’s so awesome about David Cook’s upcoming performance on Saturday Night Live tomorrow night–he’ll have the opportunity once again to capture the imaginations of TV viewers, just as he did on American Idol last spring. I don’t think the recorded single “Light On” does his talent justice entirely. I’m looking forward to seeing Cook live on my TV again.

NBC has been airing promos for this weekend’s (Ben Affleck hosts, John McCain guests) SNL episode, and I’ve got them after the jump.

Insert obligatory AI election joke here! Heh.

More upcoming appearances: David and his band will be featured on Wal-mart Soundcheck. Check out a preview here. The entire performance will be available on November 15. They’ve also recorded a performance for AOL Sessions that premiers on November 28.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight David calls the AOL sessions one of the first gigs with his group and says he still gets butterflies before he hits the stage. “The day I stop getting nervous about gigs” says David “Is the day I need to stop playing music.” Watch the video after the jump.

Videos after the JUMP…

    Thanks for posting this.
Wow, Ben A. looks HUGE in comparison to the other three. I never realized he was such a large man. That second promo is really hilarious, the “politicians” were very funny – begging for votes. :lol_tb:

ETA: DC really looks rested and relaxed on the Entertainment Tonight Clip in comparison to how he appeared on the Tour. AI really worked the top 10 hard during the summer. I’m happy for DC, DA and all of the rest for what they’ve accomplished this year.

I missed the SNL promo when it aired last night but I did finally get to see on youtube a little later on. Loved it. :laugh_tb:

Ben Affleck also has a large skull.

Sigh. Tomorrow’s gonna be a loooooooooooong day. Why can’t this be “Saturday Day Live”?

  • templeton

Cook looks awesome. Wonder if they’ll do an AI / Election related skit with him?

  • cheese

Thanks for posting the SNL promos. The only NBC show I was able to watch was that Kim & Kath show and it was so bad, I couldn’t sit through it. The promos are cute. Part of me thinks the only reason David got this gig is so they could do the whole Idol voting/election thing. I’m alright with that.

I’m a little nervous about the Light On performance – that song is really hard to sing and I suspect some high notes are going to get away from him, but I can’t wait to (finally) hear one of his own songs. Maybe I should tune in at 12:45, lol.

  • leome

I had never noticed how tall Ben is. Cook looks so small there, and small is never a word I’d find to describe him.

The AI references were expected, but still funny.

  • wordnerdarchie

Ben Affleck also has a large skull.

For sure, GwendolynD, very observant. I can’t believe I missed that at first viewing. Makes the other 3 look very normal, doesn’t it?

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

The only NBC show I was able to watch was that Kim & Kath show and it was so bad, I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sit through it.

Thank God. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thought that show was bad. I watched it once and that was enough. lol I watched the Office hoping I would see it then but I saw comments that had come through before 9:00 eastern last night at DC.org and that’s when I realized I had missed it by just a few minutes or so.

  • sma11ie

Hahaha. That’s so funny. I’m sure DC would be as well. Reminds me of what he said in an interview once in response to a question on his newfound female attention, after the requisite “got a haircut and forgot to shave” comment that “accidental cougar bait is still cougar bait, so it’s all good”. Although, I must angst along with cheese a tad that no matter the reasons for his landing the gig, he HAS to knock it out of the park with Light On, which is such a hard song to sing. I think I’m just gonna rewatch Billie Jean performance to calm myself down.

Ben Affleck also has a large skull.

Wait– but DC is supposed to be the one with the “massive skull”. Those two guys on TV together must be breaking some unwritten onscreen skull size quota. haha.

Lastly, did everyone notice all the political Google ads we’ve been getting on this site lately as a result of this SNL discussion? Idol and politics… whoddathunk =P.

  • Michelle

Oh yay, all of the past day’s squee in one spot :)

He is just so pretty in those SNL spots. And the ads were even kind of funny.

LOL Pam, I was just saying elsewhere that thank goodness people put the ads online so I could delete Kath & Kim from my dvr…it was okaaay but not that great. Selma Blair was cute though.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    Indeed…”Ben & the Mini-Heads Show”….

Part of me thinks the only reason David got this gig is so they could do the whole Idol voting/election thing.

Heh. Could very well be true. There’s always the claim that more people vote for the American Idol than for the POTUS.

Right on, mj. Just so excited for him – what an awesome week it must have been for him. I like the studio “Light On”, but…. live??? I cannot wait. Go David!

  • kathrynTX

First…SQUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I am beyond excited about seeing him perform on TV again! Yes, what’s so awesome about David Cook’s upcoming performance…what mj said. I’ve been feeling all week like “What am I doing this weekend? I’m doing something fun! What am I gonna wear? When do I have to be ready? What am I doing? I’m so excited, whatever it is! Oh YEAH, I have a date with David Cook on Saturday night! YAY!” Geez I’m an idiot over this man. Totally bonkers. Gone.

I hope he’s in a skit! That would be so fun. They can use the whole voting thing and it would be FUNNY! Cook is funny. He should get to do a skit…please please please. Can’t wait!

ETA: I hope they KILL with Light On live! This band should be good. Those 3 certain guys have been playing together for a couple years. I have high expectations, guys! Rock us.

  • http://www.myspace.com/jmomsblog J

Ben is a large guy, he would look funny with a small head :innocent1_tb:

  • sunchick

    *texting 1…*

Old habits die hard. :help_tb: He looks fantastic.

  • umbrella

    Ben is HUGE. lol.

  • IGetCranked

I can’t wait to hear what LO sounds like live! I can’t believe his first tv appearance is SNL. He looks nice in those clothes too.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Ben is a large guy, he would look funny with a small head

    Indeed he would.

  • Michelle

    Got a text!

“Don’t miss David perform on SNL. Tomorrow on NBC 11:35 pm est. Call him after u catch the performance at 816-463-4003″

Hm, I wonder what will happen when we call?

  • gabam

Being on SNL is great for Cook but wouldn’t it have been better to be on the show closer to the time of the CD’s release? 17 days is a long time for casual SNL viewers to remember that he has a CD coming. The Saturday before the release date would have been much better, IMO.

I’m happy for Cook and for his fans.

  • sabby_rina

Woah! I don’t know why its very surreal seeing David Cook on these SNL promos.

  • 123abc456

Thanks for posting this, best I have seen yet. I cannot wait until Saturday

I agree with cheese that this appearance was probably timed due to the election because the “more people vote on American Idol than they do for the President of the United States” jokes are endless.

Plus, I’m willing to bet that part of what they’re aiming for with this appearance is single sales. And, if the casual viewer chooses to go to iTunes to see if there is music available from DC and then downloads the single, and also sees that the album is available for preorder… well, take it from there.

  • Keel

Ben is known for having a large head even relative to his body size. Just like Cook’s MAS (massive alien skull).

As for the timing of his appearance, the only problem with an appearance closer to the album release date is that the country will no longer be as interested in SNL because the election will be over.

  • gabam

    Good points, Sarah. Thanks.

  • Trina

I wish he was on closer to the album release date too but I would imagine it’s tough to get booked, period, for this show so I’m not going to complain too much about timing. I figure his people put the call in and they took what date they were able to get.

Woah! I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know why its very surreal seeing David Cook on these SNL promos.

Same here. Very surreal! If I expected him to ever make it on here I would have never predicted it would be so soon. Pretty amazing he made it to SNL and Oprah even before his album drops.

  • annoula

Are you guys kidding me with the timing issue? If anything, this is the best Saturday to be on because it’s right before the election and he’ll probably get the maximum amount of viewers, especially with an actual candidate making an appearance.

So hopefully he’ll (they’ll) play two songs (Coldplay did 4!…but then again, they’re Coldplay), and hopefully one of them will be new. Please, pretty please!

  • CathyMK

I’m so used to over-analyzing every little thing that’s David Cook related that at first I started trying to figure what it meant that he’s #1 for texting, and the “presidential candidates” are 2 and 3. (Oh no, Cookie in the dreaded first to sing death spot!) LOL :lol_tb:

I’m really excited to finally see him with his own band. I think this will be the first time that we see him really singing WITH the band, instead in front of hired guns of one type or another.

  • gabam

Since I don’t care at all about the candidate who will be there, I’ll probably tune in to watch Cook’s performance(s). If I’m out and miss the show, I’ll just check YouTube or here.

  • AZIdolFan

i’m so excited for tomorrow!!!! i can’t believe he is going to be on SNL!!! And those promos are funny and he looks so cute. oh, and thanks mj for posting.

  • Scifisam

lol, I’ve got to say it:

    David Cook for President!!

  • elisad

Hm, I wonder what will happen when we call?

    Hmmm, I wonder too.

Ben! Love you Ben, no matter how big your skull it. David! Love you David, no matter how big your skull it.

I admire whoever sit through Kath & Kim to see a promo. That show is BAD.

  • Laurie

SNL has had its highest ratings in many years due to the election. David and his management scored huge by getting him on the Sat. BEFORE the election. I am thinking numbers may drop off for SNL once the election is over. I think he is on at a very opportune time. I can’t wait to see him perform. I have complete confidence in him. He gave us week after week of stunning performances while on AI. And he was consistent night after night on tour. I just heard LO on the radio about an hour and a half ago. I love the song and look forward to hearing him sing it live. He looks very handsome and cool in the promos. This is another stepping stone on his way to a very fruitful and long career. Go David and Rock On!

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

Ben! Love you Ben, no matter how big your skull it. David! Love you David, no matter how big your skull it.

OMG, lol! Hahaha. That just made me crack up elisad :laugh_tb: :laugh_tb:

  • WestiesRule

I have to miss SNL because I’ll be at the SYTYCD show in CT (MGM Grand at Foxwoods). I am looking forward to the video clips. You ROCK David!

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

David Cook is (supposedly) going to premiere his Light On Music Video ‘first-thing Monday morning’.
    http://www.davidcookofficial.com/news/stay-tuned-mondays-surprise

The webnerds didn’t mention what the surprise is, but it’s quite obvious..seeing that the accompanying picture is a behind-the-scenes pic of David shooting the LO video.

  • s3rious

    David Cook for President!

    Awesome! hehe. SNL is tommorow!

  • s3rious

As for the timing of his appearance, the only problem with an appearance closer to the album release date is that the country will no longer be as interested in SNL because the election will be over.

So true. David Cook’s SNL appearance will be watched by a lot of folks.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    ***SPOILER***

From someone at rehearsal, looks like David may sing “Declaration….”

    Developing….
