I’m in the group who thinks the song is perfect for the sports package it showcased but am glad it didn’t make the record. I’m also in the group that was disappointed to hear the advice given to him that he needs to be more straightforward in his songwriting. I love wordy, metaphorical Cook. IMO, it’s what makes his songwriting
unique. I hope TPTB don’t squash this gift in exchange for a more ” radio friendly ” sound.
I’m also hoping for some Cook/Tiemann collaborations on the next record; even Neal’s harder stuff such as ” Call To Arms ” is really melodic.

let’s face it, as a sports fan himself, DC has got to be geeking out in a very, very big way.

That honestly makes me happier than anything — that he gets to do all this cool stuff when he’s such a sports fan. Love it.

Here’s hoping that DC adds a Washington show’ ¦.

We could have a reunion! Shazzer and vascot… good times. Charlottesville was one great day, wasn’t it? So nice meeting everyone.

Ooh, we might hear it tonight? Yeah, I’ll be watching. My hubby is a Philly fan anyway. He’s going to be like… “Damn, girl is *biddable* tonight letting me watch baseball all night long.” Then the song will come on and… eyebrow raise exasperated look comes my way. Ah, well. I could squish him anyway, he let me go to five shows this year and though I think he was worried I was flinging panties (giggle, no way dude)… he was cool and let me have some fun.

Thanks for posting my list, LadyM! I was having trouble getting on the internet last night and definitely could not have done it.

I like the song, and do think that it is a nice fit for sporting events. Thank you also to everyone who hunted down the lyrics. I had a feeling that there had been an edit leading to a repeat of one of the choruses, but that was just my sense from it. Anyway, I love that these ESPN guys seem to really like DC, and that he’s getting more chances to have his music be a part of big sporting events—nice for getting his music and voice out there to sports fans, but also, let’s face it, as a sports fan himself, DC has got to be geeking out in a very, very big way.

One other thing: Hey, Tierbee! Didn’t get to say this the other night before the Extreme Makeover thread closed, but it was great to meet you in Charlottesville! Here’s hoping that DC adds a Washington show….

cheesehead, I say this lovingly, but fearbear has every right to “bother listening” to DC’s song and commenting on hating it here. So she doesn’t like it, doesn’t like DC’s stuff in general. No biggie. I’d comment/respond if I felt there was something worth discussing, but in this case, not so much.

I like Cook’s songwriting, others do not. I doubt at this point whether either group will ever change opinions about it, a year after the record drop. That’s just fine with me. There are certain posters here that I skip over now anyway, since I know basically what will be said. I’m happier that way, too.

Awww tierbee and BootStar, my fellow Cooktards I mean fans. hee. WAAAAHHH I can’t listen or watch anything at work on here right now. Boo. BUT I just wanted to chime in on the Cook songwriting etc discussion. I’m listening to Close Your Eyes right now. Love that Cook, especially the YEAH after the 2nd verse-like part. I listen to Incarcerate a lot as well.

I really like the writing on Analog Heart too, the lyrics especially. Fall Back Into Me has interesting lyrics and interesting music & rhythms. Like that one a lot. I like angsty, dark, moody Cook. And Neal Fingtiemann too. I would love some more Cook/Tiemann penned songs, please, on this next album. I think I agree with you guys about Neal’s looks…I do find him attractive! So, I like rockin’ snarly Cook too. Oh I like pretty much all the Cook I’ve heard…EXCEPT, I just realized, some of the rambling, very wordy, vague Axium songs (from the Veder-tone days). OOOO I really like his take on Creep!

I like MWK Anodyne, love Cook’s singing lead too. Circles Anthem, Stuck Under Wheels, One True Thing, Make Me…probably my faves.

DCTR least fave is probably…ummmmmmm…Come Back To Me? I dunno. I like the whole album, but I will often skip that one. I like LIVE Cook & The Anthemic best, over the recorded version!

The lyrics to Anodyne are awesome… so are ‘Til I’m Blue, is that all Neal too? I love MWK stuff, helps that I like Andy’s voice but I think it’s Neal’s lyrics that really draw me. While I’m currently in a sort of laid back acoustic vibe sort of mood I really like the darker, moody stuff too. So Neal + David would be a whole lot of win for me. And stuff with Raine Maida is good, too. And pictures with David and Raine because… well. They are kinda hot, you know.

I wish I knew more about Neal, he seems so mysterious.

Doesn’t David call him an enigma? What’s funny is I’ve heard a few times that he’s really accessible and friendly as far as talking to fans — and when we were in Charlottesville he was the one at the end of the bar (yes, I was stealing peeks at them, I mean, could I help it?) chatting with the fans. Yup — Lyrics to Anodyne were all Neal according to Dave. Dave only wrote the music. Neal also brings the rocking jaded bad boy (KOTN) when he writes with the Cook. So yeah, more Neal please. (And yeah, Maida rocks my socks too, because . . . he just does and I lurves me some Mr. S, Heroes and Permanent.) Don’t get the Malloy haterade given that he helped with Lie and LOTM (even if he did also give us CBTM).

What happened? Did we Flash Forward here??? It’s now 4:00 pm???

Count me among the Til I’m Blue and Anodyne fans. And I’ll never get the love for WOHWWS, but I like Souvenir. And I actually prefer a lot of the old Axium stuff (faux Eddie Vedder voice notwithstanding) to Analog Heart, which (with the exception of a few songs) doesn’t do a whole lot for me. I love wordy Cook, too, but only when he’s not mixing metaphors and misuing words.

I saw David Gray perform last night at the Tower Theater, and that’s a dude who knows how to write songs. They’re pure poetry, but it’s poetry that works. DC really should listen to his stuff, because he covers a lot of the same themes (heartbreak, death when you’re an unbeliever, etc.).

Oh, and somebody threw DG a Phils cap at the end of the evening, and he put it on for about five seconds, but clearly wasn’t feeling the baseball drama. At. All. Not much on banter, either. That’s what I think makes Cook so exceptional; he’s incredibly personable and comfortable making small talk. Not all artists are. Love me my Davids (Gray and Cook)!
