Thanks, standtotheright, for clearing that up a bit for me. I’ve been hesitant to ask because sometimes I see it in people’s screen names and bios, etc. and didn’t want to offend anyone who thought of it affectionately.

Boy, we do angst, don’t we? I have to laugh at going from 90 to 110 being characterized as plummeting (he’s at #110 this morning), especially after he rose from zero to 90 so quickly. Sure I’d have loved it if he rose faster and higher, but your typical Idol demographic would not tend to go for a harder rock song. They would probably prefer an easy-listening-ized version like the contestants generally did. People outside the Idol bubble, who would be more rock leaning, wouldn’t even have known the single existed. With Ryan making no mention and the single appearing a full day after the d/l rush for the contestants, I’m surprised it did as well as it did. Even his appearance was barely mentioned, and was hidden at the start, when many would not tune in.

Rather than a litmus test on him, it’s probably more a reflection of who watches Idol – and I wonder how many, like some that have been cited – thought it was his new single and not a cover. I am not a Stones fan and have never liked the song, but he made me like it and I bought it. Not everyone will feel that way.

Tierbee, you didn’t buy it? This angst is all your fault! :O

It’s my job’s fault. They haven’t paid me in 3 weeks. THEY are the root of all angst, damn them!

Me too – I sincerely hope that anyone who had any role in trying to make DCTR appeal to the ’supposed wants and needs of the cougar crowd/idol audience’ have gone the f**k away and don’t come back again!

Point being that that’s a (paraphrased) quote from the DCTR producer in an EW interview before DCTR’s release (as I’m sure everyone knows). So from the horse’s mouth and all that!

As a 38 year old female myself, it pisses me off no end to see myself and my musical tastes put in any kind of box, let alone one who’s ‘supposed wants and needs’ are encompassed by LO and CBTM!

  • fadetowhite

Indymuse – honestly. I can’t buy a copy of JJF, because it isn’t available outside the US, but even if I could, I’m not sure that I would, for any reason other than a show of solidarity with DC&TA.

And that’s nothing to do with only liking easy-listening-ised versions of songs: I don’t like that song. I don’t think it’s one of the best Rolling Stones songs and there was nothing about the cover that made it any more interesting to me (sorry DC&TA!).

Now, if it was a new song by them, I’d be there in a shot!

You must tell your employers that Cook’s career hangs in the balance, dependent upon you downloading this JJF cover, and demand to be paid. Unless they are like bitter Archie fans or something, in which case, it all makes evil sense. Seriously, though, (((tierbee))) hope they get on the ball for ya. Completely understand spending your money wisely. Gotta love this economy.

I refuse to angst about this. I’m just gonna be happy that DCTR got a sales bump and that Cookie and the band were on TV looking pretty. Good news that we’ll see him (and Neal) during Idol Gives Back. I believe, like departed Paula, that David Cook is a bright shinging star.

Well, that’s a separate issue. Those people a) seem to think that it means something like “with-it older woman” (although if they were as “with-it” as they claimed to be they’d be aware of the other definition), or b) know that it suggests sexual pursuit of a younger man and are perfectly happy to be announcing that.

Whichever the reason, I knock at least 10 IQ points off my estimate whenever someone actually chooses to label themselves that way. That may be unkind, but it’s a fair reaction, IMO.

Maybe the term is in the midst of undergoing a transitional defintion; you know, how like gay once meant happy, then it was a
degrading word for homosexual, now it’s universal for homosexual.

Only 10? You’re much more charitable than me! LOL

If this is indicative of what will happen with his next release I am seriously worried. If DC can’t even get his song into the Top 50 on itunes when he performed to an audience of 20 Million, I am really worried.

I hardly think TBTP would rest their decisions on DCTR@ on a 40 year old RS single. DC&TA did a one off gig (probably to bail out an atrocious group sing, S9 contestants just can’t sing the Stones). He was superb with the material he had to work with (not my fav RS song) and made the other two “guest stars” look like amatuers. The song was NOT advertised as a download on national TV so I’m happy that it made it to the Top 100. Pretty damn good for a one-time song with no push.

DC&TA will be fine. TPTB have spent a TON of money on DCTR2 already and IMO would not throw him under a bus (they’re in the business to MAKE MONEY).

Wasn’t it mentioned at the end of the night? I thought I remembered that it was , but I only really payed close attention to the first 15 min. of the show!
The reviews from the various media sights were pretty positive, also.
I just wish they could have found a way to compliment him(them)without having to insult the contestants or some other past AI winners.
