David Cook performed the National Anthem in his hometown, before the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Cleveland Browns Browns game at Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City MO today. (Dec. 20)

The icing on the cake? Today is David’s 27th birthday! Happy Birthday David. He tweeted his birthday wishes earlier today:

Oh and if anyone wanted to get me anything for mine, go here and donate. www.braintumorcommunity.org

Donate in honor of his brother Adam, who passed away from a brain tumor in May 2009…

David has had a year of extremes, full of both triumph and loss.   His debut post-Idol album, David Cook went platinum and he just got off the road, having completed a successful nearly year-long concert tour.

The next album comes sometime next year…

It is nice to see David so relaxed and singing so well. It has been an up and down year for David. I really can’t wait for the next CD.

  • Sydia

Beautiful. Hot Daym Mr. Cook(he is 27 now) you looking goooood!!!

  • Pam

It really has been sort of a roller coaster ride for David this year as far as highs and lows go. I’m looking forward to see what happens in the new year to come.

David has come along way from the first time he sang the SSB shortly after he won AI last year.

Good job Dave and Happy Birthday! :)

  • mzbet

    Well done, Mr. Cook!!

  • cookmerized

Beautiful. And the song was nice too. :)

  • wellhesback

Thanks for the lovely Cookie thread, MJ. and for prominently posting his birthday wish – the donation link.

Andy Skib & Neal Tiemann from his band were there today, along with a lot of David’s family.

  • spritely

Very nice! And what a nice thing to do, to turn over his birthday to a good cause.

  • SashaB

Aw, what a wonderful way to spend his birthday. He’s no fair weather fan. He’s a true Chiefs fan. He did a wonderful job.

Here’s another version – the camera is shaky, but the sound is very good. What a lovely day in KC.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBvS-QxaGrY

So far, David’s Race for a Cure Team has raised $22,156.96. His individual runner tally is now up to $10,428.95. It’s continued to go up every hour.

eta: Pulled from DCO. Yesterday at 10:36, the David’s team total was $11,334.95.

  • Trina

    Holyjeebus he looks good!

I’m so happy he did such a good job on the NA and got to do it on his birthday. Is it bad though that my first thought regarding the Chiefs loss is that he’s probably use to it? lol

  • May

    Fantastic job! Every note perfect.

    Happy Birthday David Cook!

  • MollyAnnMay

Oops, just posted in the other thread, but I’ll repeat it here — he sounds terrific, and I’m so glad he went back on his vow to never do this again (well, by himself — he did do a lovely job with Andrew a while back).

It’s awesome what 150 plus shows in front of large, small and everything in between audiences can do for a performer. : )

That is soo the quote of the day. lol That must be his nephew (the kids name escapes me).

Yeah, I’m thinking that’s probably his nephew Marshall. Here is Dave and Andrew’s duet of the SSB from last year. It starts around the 2:35 mark.

Mr. Cook is lookin’ great and sounding great! Happy Birthday Cookie! I am off to give you a birthday present. His fans have decided to donate $27.00 in honor of his 27′th birthday to a cause that is so important to him. I think that is a great idea!

  • seriously

Oh and his hair did looks nice. I like it short.

  • Laurie

I love that the announcer wishes him a happy birthday after he is finished singing. I bet David was thrilled to do this on his birthday. He is as big of a sports fan as he is a music fan.

    Yes, the hair looks aewsome.

  • gigglesmo3

Jim C.’s tweets are cracking me up:

@jambajim: Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday @thedavidcook! Happy birthday to youuuu. (And many more.) #happybdaydavidcook

@jambajim: And a happy BBQ-filled birthday to @AnoopDoggDesai, too. Can’t wait to hear your new music! #SoManyIdolParentsWereDoingItAroundMarch20

LOL at the hashtag, which is so true. Jordin’s b-day is on the 22nd, Daughtry’s is on the 26th and Archuleta’s is on the 28th.

Thats hillarious. And Neal Tiemann’s (David’s guitarist) birthday is Dec 22. I just realized they were born only 2 days apart and in Texas. Weird. Especially since Cook moved very shortly after being born.

  • jan

    Happy Birthday David Cook!

A trip down memory lane – can you believe it?

    This guy

    Became this guy

    And these guys

    became these guys

And all because he went from here

    To here

And dayumm he was happy about it!

  • Zarita

I love how Dave’s got his hand in his pocket like, this is no big deal, it’s the National Anthem, not like I was terrified when I did it before or anything. lol.

Dude, I’m telling you, they’re totally twins. I don’t care if they have different parents. They’re some weird form of non-genetically related twins. Or maybe they were born in the same hospital and there was a baby switch. Hmmm.

  • aga

Love it. David looks so hot. Happy Birthday to my boy.

Wow I’ve never seen that picture before. Hehe that shirt is great.

Now I will forever be wondering haha. You never know, the 80′s were wack.

  • Trina

Aw those last 2 pictures are why I will never, ever regret him winning AI. The joy! The tears! Magic rainbows! I don’t think anything will ever top that moment SNIFF.

  • MollyAnnMay

Aww, thanks for the photographic trip down memory lane, jan.

That picture of Dave leaping for joy at the finale will never not make me smile. : )

  • spritely

Jan, thank you! What a trip, what a finale, what a guy.

  • hypertwink

I’m so glad. I still have mini-nightmares, remembering his deer-in-the-headlights during the Lakers game last year.

  • tierbee

Jan, I love the little picture trip down memory lane… and yeah, the leaping Cookie at the finale makes me smile. What a year he’s had, ups and downs… I’m so looking forward to see what 2010 brings us in Cookistan :)

David has come along way from the first time he sang the SSB shortly after he won AI last year.

Ha, no kidding! This time he’s all casual in his shades… last time he looked like he was going to have a heart attack… poor guy was scared to death. This time he was relaxed and handsome and in great voice so I could concentrate on his lips, erm, singing.

  • HappyDaisy

Cookie’s lookin’ cool as usual. Very nice job on the National Anthem.

He worked so hard in 2009.

I think Fox repeats Carrie’s special on Tuesday. If you missed him the first time ’round or want to see him again, you can see David sing Lie (beautiful performance) early in the special. Hope he sells more singles and albums from the repeat.

  • Pam

awwwww Jan. Those pics really do tell an awesome story of how far David has come in the last couple of years since his audition. It’s nice to take a trip down memory lane once in a while. :)

  • Garnetstar

And Neal and David are both really auburn haired. Not ginger. I think ya have to have all the red freckles to be a true ginger. But anywho. They do have a lot of coinkidinks.

Ya I got the 2nd hand embarrassment thing when David sang the NA last time. He is always so calm and collected. And he totally was not that day. Uh Oh, Houston….we have a problem.

I think that is so sweet that Andy and Neal took time out of their vacation to come and be with David in KC for his Bday. That is some true friendship. I wonder if Monty or Kyle were there?

  • progression

Nice job Dave! I wasn’t sure we’d ever hear him sing the SSB again, lol.

What a perfect birthhday – baseball, family and friends. It’s nice to see Dave get some very well deserved down time.

Thanks for posting that jan, it’s fun to see how far these guys have come, exciting to think about all the things they still have ahead of them.

A million years from now I will still love American Idol because of

    THIS

  • ladymadonna

Awesome job with the anthem today. I respect the fact that he respects it enough to always do it straight-up.

And it looks like almost $14,000 has been raised today for the Race For Hope DC in Dave’s honor (total so far is $23,881.00). The tweet with his birthday wish didn’t even link specifically to his team page or even that particular event – I wonder how much all the organizations at http://www.braintumorcommunity.org took-in today.

  • Laurie

Jan – thanks for the photo journey of David. I love the one with Archie and MJ. They were such a tight group. And the last photo kills me. He just couldn’t contain his joy.

  • wellhesback

Thanks, Jan, for your trip down memory lane.
Whether American Idol implodes this year or not, yes the show was worth it to me for those glorious rainbow finale moments when Cookie won.

am so looking forward to more music from DC and his buddies.

  • tierbee

Wow, that’s awesome how much money has come in today for the Race for Hope! Amazing!!

I hope David is enjoying some down time. But I’m also glad that he lied when he said he’d never do the National Anthem again – hooray for Cookie crumbs!

  • Curlin

First performance at Basketball playoffs — pretty good considering he was terrified! lol
Second performance at Chiefs opener last year — better with Andrew at his side –good harmonies
Third performance at Chiefs game today — best yet!

Happy Birthday to Cookie! Why does it make me smile to know our birthdays are only 3 days apart? lol

  • CathyMK

He really did do a great job this time, and looked rested, relaxed and confident doing it. I wonder how many times he practiced it on the bus over the last year, LOL?

So glad to hear that the donations for the Race for Hope are piling up today. It’s the perfect way for fans to show support for David.

  • incarcerate

nice job on the NA – he looked and sounded great

  • EmmaJK

Perfect. Gorgeous. The thing that really strikes me is the confidence in this performance. No nerves, no shakiness. Note perfect. What a difference his year-long tour has made in him.

    And he looks reaaalllly goooood.

  • progression

    *cough* you mean football *cough*

hahahah! That’s the one where you throw the brown ball around instead of the white one, right? And of course now I can’t edit. Dayum.

  • ohnonotagain

Great job, so confident Mr. Cool. Happy Birthday again . Keep the cookie crumbs coming…

  • movin2thabeet

Yes, EmmaJK. I do think that this marathon Declaration Tour along with the crazy AI tour/album recording and the AI show before that, really has solidified, tempered and strengthened Dave’s voice as well as his sense of musical self. That really was a confident and terrific rendition of the National Anthem. I cannot wait to hear what this all means for the next album.

  • tinydance

Thanks for posting this MJ. Happy Birthday David!

Very straight version by David. Sounded good.

  • cookcricket

DC sounded great on the NA! As many have said, much different than his first time alone. ;) So relaxed. You’ve come a long way! I saw the great post of pics on the previous page. :D Awwww!

Happy B-DAY! David Cook! I hope you had a great party, and hope that no one brought Brownies. ;) (Sorry hubby’s from Cleveland.)

Also, the Rick Dees EoY countdown is so wonderful! Proud to be a fan for sooooooo many reasons!

One of only two artists to have three songs on the list. David and Pink. Congrats to them both.

  • FolkFan

Only Pink and DC managed three songs on that countdown. Nice.

Thank you for the thread, MJ, and thank you for the trip down memory lane, Jan. Awesome, isn’t it?

Oh, and the latest update on his team total for the Race for Hope: $25,391.00

  • gingerly

Love this rendition of the National Anthem. Love it because it’s straight and (to me) what the song is about. I always get a bit peeved at people who have beautiful voices but who decide the NA is another proof of vocal prowess and have to put every note they can hit into it because they can. That’s my preference for the song. Just sing it the way it was written.

Yeah, I think it was fine.

  • TreeFrog

I just love a straightforward SSB where the singer makes it about respect for the anthem rather than LOOK-AT-MEEE vocal gymnastics. Thank you, Mr. Cook! Oh, and someday I’d love to hear an acapella version with the band singing harmonies. Some of my absolute favorite versions have been done that way.

  • sunchick

Awww, Cook. Sounds good, looks fab, and somehow manages not to be shivering wearing only a hoodie. Gotta love him. Hope he had a kickass bday.

  • druzilla

Hard to believe it was only this year his brother passed away. It’ll be a tough holiday season. Congrats to DC on his successes and best on the road ahead.

  • SharB

Absolutely loved David’s rendition of the National Anthem. He looks great and voice was so strong. He looked hot in the sunglasses. I was hoping the Chiefs would pull out a win to celebrate his b’day. Oh well, I hope he had fun. From the pictures and videos, I would say yes.

Also, thanks Jan for the trip down memory lane. I was sooooooo happy that night in May when he won. It been a great year for him filled with both joy and sorrow.

LadyMadonna, thanks for the photos, too.

  • BootStar

If only the Chiefs’ defense hadn’t collapsed with less than a minute on the clock, it might have been a perfect day. I must say, I genuinely admire David’s devotion to that sucktastic team. No fairweather fan, that guy.

(Oh, tierbee, I see that little “pit” is now your avatar. Sneaky girl!)
