David Cook

David Cook is interviewed on Mornings with Mike and Juliet. He performs “Time of My Life”

Interview:

Performance:

  • gingerly

Well at least she asked a couple different questions. I was getting kind of tired of hearing about 5:30 in the morning in the dark and the rain…He doesn’t look quite as tired this morning, poor baby.

  • wfowfowfo

Sexy beast looks a bit worn out.

I was glad to hear a few different things too. Things we kinda knew, but still not the 5:30 a.m. in the rain stuff. He also handled the dating question nicely — more on the low key, which I think was smart.

OK.. on to the next fix.

  • annoula

FINALLY! Some new freaking questions! I’ve never seen this show before; I think I need to start watching! I especially appreciated that the mention of a certain topic was not dwelt on and immediately changed to a different topic.

Ok, now for the performance video.

  • Trina

Poor baby needs a nap..I volunteer to tuck him in.

  • annoula

What the heck does “out on the edge of forever” mean? I’m an English teacher and I can’t figure that out.

He makes the most of the song; you have to hand it to him.

  • GwendolynD

Heh, heh, heh. One smooth Cookie.

    I’m just sayin’.

  • Hoothere115

Oh wow. Excellent interview. The best so far.
And WordNerds – Plethora. That’s all i’m saying.

  • Pam

That is one of the best interviews he’s had since his Ellen appearance last week. He did handle the dating question very well.

Even though you could tell he was tired, it was a very nice performance. :)

I loved what Mike said about the ladies in the 3rd row saying Cookie was hot. Well DUH! :laugh_tb:

Oh wow. Excellent interview. The best so far.
    And WordNerds – Plethora. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m saying.

    Roger. That.

Got a lot of time on his hands in the Big Apple, I assume.

  • Jolene

Oh, I loved this alot. Some new questions, indication that he knew about the stupid FoxNews article, and a very lovely performance of the skittles song. Wonderful Cookie.
So… Does he have any other stuff planned for today? I can’t get enough!

  • chachi

I want to hijack him and force him to take a nap on my couch. It was a nice interview, but I’m still dying for someone to ask him actual music-related questions about his album and the tour. That’s the news I really want to hear.

  • smartcookie

I caught the “plethora,” too. Hee. So he (or someone he knows who can tell him to do stuff) does read the boards.

That boy is just smokin’ hot and smokin’ cool. If there’s such a thing as smokin’ cool. Well, I guess there is now!

Don’t shoot me, but I kind of understand “the edge of forever.” As if one is standing balanced at the very edge of a cliff, knowing that there is no going back and everything is about to change, with a whole new life ahead. “About to leap into the rest of my life” doesn’t scan. And no, I am not going to defend the magic rainbow, pink hearts, orange stars or green clovers.

  • Layla

Nice nice interview. This Juliet is waaaaaay better than that annoying Ripa woman.

He still looks tired but very centered. He is hot but even hotter when he is singing.Nice to hear some different answers. He sings the shit out of that song. I like that he respects that no matter the words, that he has chosen to sing it with passion. That and his vocals make it easy on the ears. I just try to ignore the words…except I must admit I like the phrase: “edge of forever”-think I understand it too.

  • Jolene

That and his vocals make it easy on the ears. I just try to ignore the wordsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

The only lyrics that really bother me are the “magic rainbow on the horizon”. Other than that, I have no problem with the sappiness. I don’t even mind the mixed metaphores in the chorus, I just don’t like the words “magic” and “rainbow”. Not on their own, and even less when put together.
But Cookie could sell me anything and I’d come back for seconds.

  • psnax

I thought this was a good interview – given the 5 minute time slot and lack of available material it wasn’t too repetitive and didn’t get too personal (even acknowledged that stuff is tabloid fodder).

    And WordNerds – Plethora. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m saying.

And also – ancillary :) (incidentally used in the preceding sentence).

ETA: And Simon thought a “word nerd” was boring and unappealing. The fact so many of us are noticing the language DC uses shows Paula got it right!

  • gumby

Oh wow. Excellent interview. The best so far.
    And WordNerds – Plethora. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m saying.

Don’t forget “ancillary”. I think that was in the same sentence as plethora. Wow, impressive vocab.

Doesn’t he give good camera?? Boy knows how to look into that red light very, very well.

ETA: Hah! psnax beat me to it!

  • gingerly

I always wondered about tasting every moment and living out loud. I think Carly understands about tasting things. They only way I can figure living out loud is a bunch of belching and farting.

OMG!! :lol_tb: I’m dying here at work! This is hysterical! I was wondering about tasting every moment, but I get the living it out loud, at least the way Gingerly describes it! :jittery_tb:

Oh, well, that’s one way to look at it. LOL.

    Hello,

I would like to invite you to this website, IdolTube.net. It’s a combination of American Idol and YouTube! You can find music videos from many different countries or you can add your own. Thanks for checking out the website. Please spread the word. Have fun!

  • AInoob

Nice to see them asking a few different questions. Anyone know the details about the Today Show? Do they perform outside and what time they usually perform. I work right around the corner and it would be nice to take a “coffee break” at a specific time to be able to hear Cook sing live.

Both Davids were on Good Day New York in an interview. It was cute when Cook said Archie gave him a right hook backstage and that’s why he didn’t sing so well, lol.

MJ, I apologize in advance if I’m not supposed to paste this in here, I wasn’t sure where else to share it with whomever is interested. And also, my apologies, I don’t know how to shorten the link (if someone explains how, I promise not to put such long links up again!).

Great interview and performance, how can DC make the words magic rainbow sound so sexy?? I am loving this song way more than I want to.

  • Jolene

Oh, thank you so much for that link, AInoob! I knew I was missing out on SOME media appearances!
So, other than TRL and the Toady Show tomorrow, anything else lined up? I can’t seem to find any of the “Idol Appearances” threads, here or elsewhere.

  • MrsTrep

Jolene – all the way to the top the word BLOG is in white… look to the right and Idol Appearances will be there….

  • psnax

Both Davids were on Good Day New York in an interview.

Aarrgghh – just when I was thinking that the interview was actually pretty good they brought out the ridiculous “David Cook will you date me” question. Poor Cookie is going to start thinking all his fans are crazed stalkers! Earth to FOX, there are David Cook fans out there who actually want to ask him a substantive question (come visit this site), and who get that while he might be a great “TV boyfriend,” he’s not going to go on a date with a total stranger and no matter how the question is phrased he’s never going to answer “yes.”

As always, thanks for the vids, MJ! :-)

Totally agree. I think with the exception of the silly question for Cook, the interview went rather well and wasn’t so much of the same old, same old.

This thread is to discuss Cook’s M&J appearance. News links go in the Daily Headlines thread.

In fact, that link was already posted in today’s Headlines thread. So, in the future, if you have links, check the headline thread first, if someone hasn’t already posted it, then go ahead and post it there. Thanks.

ETA: Please move any discussion of the FOX Ny video to the Headlines thread. Thank you.

ETA: Idol Apperances link can be found along the bottom of the purple header.

The guy can make anything sound good. And this slowed down version is much better IMO. The song worked in the faster version for the finale with the band and the celebration and all, but this way is much better for these “Cook & piano” performances.
I also love the fact that he is doing with this song what he did with the show: yes he knows it’s sappy sometimes, but he knows what he got himself into, so he’s embracing it and making the most of it.
(still, I will take his TWIK, even sung while half sleeping, over this, a million times…)

As for the questions: yes finally somthing new. Plus, the smart Cookie is quickly learning how to fend off the personal life questions (which is better for all of us). The man just instantly shot to fame and to being one of the most eligible bachelors around… there is a learning curve.

  • fannatic

poor guy. he needs to rest his voice. he might not have enough left by the time their tour starts.

  • Layla

Is he not giving some serious FACE in this performance??? That CFM face is to die for! How can he do that with this song??!! Lawd Jesus!!!!!

  • Trina

I dont know if I can copy it but Cookies myspace has up a press release, he signed with RCA!

Holy shit! The magic rainbow song got 1 million streams in 24 hours! Biggest song ever on AOL’s Popeater.

  • Pam

    Trina,

I was just over there seconds ago and I honestly didn’t see that but I see it now. Thank you!

  • thesheriff

I dunno, I think rainbows ARE kinda magical when I see them! I just happened to look up the word rainbow on dictionary.com (cuz I am a loser)and found it interesting: 5. a visionary goal: He pursued the rainbow of a singing career for years before becoming a success.

    I support magic rainbows!

Love love LOVE the piano on these performances!

  • Lisa

Thank you so much for posting these MJ for those of us who don’t get this show! David, a man after his fans hearts, props baby!

  • Layla

Yipppeeee! It’s RCA that he’s signed with. Well done David Cook! After reading the blurb on MYSPACE I started worrying about how is he going to work on his album WHILE he’s touring?

  • AInoob

I was hoping one of the interviewers would ask about songwriting for his CD. Yesterday morning he was on one of the radio stations and said he’d hopefully begin the songwriting process “next week”. I was hoping one of the interviewers would ask about that and maybe he’d expound on that (like whom he’d be writing with).

  • GwendolynD

After reading the blurb on MYSPACE I started worrying about how is he going to work on his album WHILE heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s touring?

I remember Jordin saying she was flying back and forth while on tour to record in the studio. I think….

  • mar_4DC

I’m so happy to hear this news. I can’t imagine how he would fly back and fourth though, if you look at their schedule they only have a day off here and there. I’m sure they’ll make it happen some how.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Let’s get this thread BACK ON TOPIC. Which is, Cook’s performance on the M&J show. Thank you.

  • ra.chatterbox

    Oh poor Cookie…

    He just looks so tired…

What I liked about him during AI is how he performs each song accordingly to the song “message” or “feel” (like anguish in Billie Jean, longing in Always be my Baby, etc etc)

But now, he just looks tired singing it. Very perfunctory.

    Producers, let him sleep!!!

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

“Ancillary” and “plethora” — I am immediately incorporating those words into my vocabulary. Cook is now my go-to source when I’m too lazy to pick up a good book in order to increase my vocab.

And finally, some different questions! I was getting tired of the same inquiries being asked over and over again.

  • voteDC

I got to love one more person after this interview – Juliet. She is wise and I am pleasantly surprised by the absence of the audition story or the music teacher story. And the fact that she went straight into the topic of Miss Caldwell (instead of asking like “Are you dating somebody and what’s her name?” pretending she didn’t know about it) and skilfully switched the topic makes me think Mr. Cook should be looking for somebody like her (not actually her but someone as clever as her).

And David’s really a SMART guy – “plethora”…. If anybody doesn’t know about it. It’s a kind of secret communication between Cookie and his fans. It’s the fans’ idea on a forum to ask Mr. Cook to use a rare word (chosen by the fans) in the upcoming interview. And his using it simply catches the fans’ hearts, better than the magic rainbow can do.

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Juliet is wise. Right. Maybe diligent but wise? Wrong.

And Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really a SMART guy – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“plethoraà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. If anybody doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know about it. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a kind of secret communication between Cookie and his fans. I think y’all have gone ’round the bend. I’m sure cookie spends every moment whacking out crossword puzzles and consulting Websters so he can introduce “you” to a *new* and *very special* word, which has been around since the dark ages.

history of the word plethora : plethora

1541, a medical word for “excess of body fluid,” from L.L. plethora, from Gk. plethore “fullness,” from plethein “be full” (see poly-). Fig. meaning “too much, overfullness in any respect” is first recorded 1700.

1700? and no one has ever heard it before?

    He’s a genius!

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Oh, I agree he’s smart but he didn’t invent the dictionary.

  • bean99

I’m late weighing in but find the use of those words getting to be annoying. It was funny the first time but now seems more like showing off. I disagreed with a friend who finds him arrogant yesterday but can see why she may think so. I still like him but may not watch too many of his interviews.

  • RemusL

bean99, why would you find DC using words like “plethora”, “ancillary” and “parameters” funny in the first place? Hate to break it to some folks but such words do get used in everyday conversation. It’s hardly showing off if that’s the way he normally speaks.
