*pant* i love this guy hes so classy and talented :)

    Thanks for the vids, MJ.

I just don’t know what to think about DC and KC dating. I am glad he is happy to do so, but I just have never liked her, so it’s hard for me to be too ecstatic for him. Eh…they’ll probably fall in love, get married, and have babies. Just watch.

I’m sure working in a grunge bar didn’t give Cookie too much in the way of drink mixing experience. A Cosmo? Regis? He’s showing his age, lol. As for a “Blaster”…we call them “Jager Bombs” where I’m from.

He did well in the interview, and his #1 on iTunes rainbow-y single. I still love David Cook. I’m glad DC got the MFW!!

  • chachi

He is wearing the pocket scarf AND the boots? And singing the Skittles song?

    You’re killing me, Smalls.

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

yes mj thanks so much for the vids.. i am at work so miss this show :) but get to sneak watch it here thanks to you :)

  • JP

Oh no! Not Kimberly Caldwell! Back away, David. Back away now.

  • GwendolynD

Okay…I give him one more week to start hating the Rainbow song….

Heh. He’s gotta sing it on tour for three months. Loverly.

Great interview. We’re finally getting around to some kinda sorta different questions, which is cool.

He’s making my “player radar” go haywire…. One smooth Cookie.

  • psnax

Thanks for posting mj. The more I listen to “Time of My Life” the more I like it. David sings it well, I think he could have done worse.

What is it with the personal life questions? Seriously, I know it’s human nature but like I said in my post in another thread, focus on the talent and music, don’t obsess about the personal life. Maybe now, after at least two interviews and one TMZ video we can put the Kimberly Caldwell issue to rest – they went on a date, they will probably go on another one, maybe even another after that. Now let’s hear about the music, more about what we might hear on the record etc. Yes, there are probably only so many new questions to ask, and at least there was something different re: the drinks questions, but the interview was a bit lacking in substance IMO.

  • thesheriff

Really loved the piano accompaniment!!! Oh, and the cleaner shaven look too. Is that the same boots he’s been wearing for ever?? LOL He must like the feel of those things…

  • Trina

I can’t hold back anymore, I love that song. LOVE it! Of course it’s his voice that’s selling the song and only the magic rainbow line is the one small part I gag a little over, but he sings the crap out of it.

Caldwell, ah whatever. He may see a different side to her..or he’s thinking with something other than his brain. I can’t see him managing to keep up with a relationship with anyone as tour isabout to start and having his career launched. I say let him have a little fun. I’m sure before the intervie started his handlers went over with R&K what should and shouldn’t be brought up. I know that’s done often on talk shows.

  • Pam

Okayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I give him one more week to start hating the Rainbow songà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Heh! I heard him say in the youtube vid from his official page that he loved the song when I saw it yesterday. Yep, we will see how long that lasts won’t we? :wink_wp:

I agree. It is nice not to hear the same old “Larry King” type questions.

  • smartcookie

When did he have bronchitis? That was kind of a surprise.

I thought the shirt, hanky in the jacket pocket, and long scarf in the pants pocket were too matchy-matchy. I fear he is going without the stylist now.

Turn back, Cookie! Just say no to accessories!

  • cheese

Wow, he really is invoking the Caldwell left and right these days. If she is somehow able to inspire a good love song, I’m all for it. I find it hilarious that he took her to a chain restaurant that serves up huge slabs of meat for their first date. How romantic!

Yes, yes, magic rainbows taste delicious. Now sign that contract, get in the studio and get that first REAL single released, please.

  • aeroz21

That Caldwell thing is so public that I doubt it will last.

  • http://www.myspace.com/blakelewisfansunite Cindy

    Hehe, Magic Rainbow. [:
I love the song, but I crack up laughing when I hear him sing those 2 words.
He doesn’t seem like a ‘magic rainbow’ singer too me. [:

  • Rebecamia

He still looks exhausted, but the performance was wonderful as usual.

  • http://www.xanga.com/Cynarajane CJ

Yup, yup. Hey, everybody needs a little lovin’, especially after what he’s been through. Still, kinda makes my skin crawl for some reason, and no, it’s not because I wish I were her. Ha! She just has that effect on me. But yeah, maybe he sees something really attractive about her that I don’t…at all.

I hope she inspires a good love song, or good any kind of song, as long as this one doesn’t involve magic rainbows. Your comment about the chain restaurant made me LOL! “Huge slabs of meat for their first date.” For real! Hahaha!

  • Caffiend

I’ve watched Kim Caldwell on Idol Tonight all season. I like her. She is the opposite of Constantine — a cheerleader for all the Idols. She’s also very attractive and a good interviewer. I think they make a nice couple.

  • redge_dc

MJ, thanks so much for putting up the video clips fast!

I find it cute that he kinda smiles before saying “magic rainbow.” I guess he also finds it funny :D .

I do love his performance here. Shows that he’s very versatile in that this definitely isn’t a rock song but he still sounds amazing.

For all of her, er…flamboyance…on TV, she really seems like a very nice girl with a great personality. I’ve exchanged a few emails with her, and she comes across as very down-to-earth (they’re gown like that in Texas :wink1_tb:) and unaffected. Plus, I think her music’s kind of awesome – powerful voice.

    They’re a very cute couple.

  • vixen

i don’t particularly like caldwell, but i’m not mad about it or anything. that said, i wish people would stop asking him about it, because i don’t really want to hear about her, heh.

  • Kirsten

I’m beginning to think that male Idols should be required to take a vow of celibacy. It would make it easier for everybody. These last few days…Wow.

Thanks Caffiend and GwendolynD for treating Kim like a human being.

That’s all I’m going to say on the subject.

He should stay far, far away from the scary boards. Far, far away…..

  • voteDC

Oh, I kinda feel pity for my Cookie. That song really sucks. A rocker doesn’t have “magic rainbow” in their vocabulary, never ever. His performance of “The World I Know” half-asleep in Access Hollywood was so much better.

And he’s stuck with this song. I think he will be singing it in public at least 100 times in the coming 3 months, so, once a day…..

But I just find DC a very smart guy, playing the game real well. Right after idol, stir up some fire by asking a girl out, caught by paparazzis, and talking about it so openly (everyone still remembers he said something like he wanted his personal/private life strictly personal, when asked about his ill brother?) And he does all the promotional stuff real well (the crappy song, the DisneyWorld thing), absolutely no rocker temperament thing going on. And he handles interviews like he has done millions of times (which is true. He answered those questions about 100 times before and he told the story like he’s talked about it the first time). I am sure he will do extremely well in the business.

  • dulce

Cook does a whole lot right. The song is crap, yet he’s going to sell it goshdarnit. It’s not quite “his” vibe, but I think the shows been around long enough where people understand that this is just part of the game. He interviews quite nicely and I like that he is truthful, addresses things that need to be addressed. I don’t give a crap about who he dates, but I’m interested to see how this resonates with the fangirls.

BTW, I think I’m one of the few who actually adores Kim C. I agree that she’s LOADS better than Constantine (and better looking than him too).

  • gumby

My take on the DC/KC romance: You know, I think David still sees himself as this balding, somewhat nerdy, schlubby guy who just happened to win American Idol. He can’t possibly fathom all these female fans out there who will practically spontaneously combust if he were to ask them out.

Who better to date than someone who is proclaimed on TV that they are head-over-heels smitten with him? The way I see it is that he didn’t have to worry in the least about getting rejected on his “date” proposal. Underneath it all is just some guy who is no different than anyone else in the matters of life and love.

But I do agree that the “date” has taken on a life of its own. Maybe it was deliberate…who knows. Wanted to make sure there were no “Clay” type issues surrounding him. Being single also has its drawbacks.

  • wfowfowfo

Why has KC become a ‘talking point’? Regis went right to it, which makes me think it’s in the package or something.

I mean, yay for the 25 year old man that’s been hold up for months to be getting him some — but I worry for him. He’s just to friggin’ serious and ernest that I fear for his widdle heart. It makes me worry that it’s more than a case of thinking with the wrong head. Do you suppose heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d been seeing her during his visits to MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s? He talked about getting away from Idol and visiting him during their down time. Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been a party girl for a very long time, letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just hope thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all it is. (And *why* do I care? Crap.)

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll make a good song somewhere eventually.

  • voteDC

Yes, I do agree that Regis was “scripted” to ask DC about the date. How come the topic got right in without any heads leading to it? Like, “oh, after the commercial break, let’s talk about your date.” “Ah, yes, we had a date just 2 days ago….”

I believe it’s deliberate. But for what purpose, can somebody enlighten us here :-) ?

  • Margaux

I think I’m still with MJ’s original theory — DC/Kim is publicity, perhaps with a spark. It’s too open to be anything else. I don’t know much about being a hot celebrity, but my DHunny’s late mom’s subscription to the Enquirer hasn’t expired yet, and I don’t see Ruth Chris’ Steakhouse as a normal stop for paparazzi.

It also might be nice to “hang with” someone who’s also under the AI “cone of silence”, who can talk about the perils, both personal and professional, that await the new young hot Idol.

    And I officially don’t care.

  • gumby

They do have something in common besides the AI common experience. They can discuss the pros and cons of their hair weaves. LOL

Random thought: Do you think he’ll have a hairstylist touching up the weave during the AI tour this summer??

And I’ll second that “*why* do I care?”

ETA: PR Move? Yep, as I stated earlier, I think it’s to squash any “is this guy really hetero?” talk that might be brewing…

  • SpenserJ

Well, in real life, I do not know either Kim C or David Cook, so I have no opinion on them dating.

But, just maybe for a little perspective….. in the past few days, Kimberly has been accused of having sex with numerous contestants, participating in an alleged threesome, and even been referred to as some kind of hooker AI trots out to “accomodate” the male contestants.

Kim is a tv personality who doesn’t have sex in public, so really none of these allegations are anything more than malicious gossip. There’s snark, and then there’s character assasination.

So, sorry mj if this is a little too “board on boards”, but honestly my head is about to effing explode. I find this whole train of thought where this poor young woman is like some vulture swooping in to defile the innocent Cookie highly objectionable.

Cookie – I can’t wait to hear your cd one day, and hopefully see you on tour, and I don’t care who you date.

Kimberly C – you seem like a perfectly nice girl, and I enjoy your show. I give you props for dealing regularly with the likes of Justin Guarini. Don’t care who you date either.

  • Layla

He sings the shit out of the Skittles song. Love him.

Re KC…I wish people would let boyfriend get laid in peace! In the bubble he’s been in who else was he supposed to meet? She seems loud and fun and is very pretty, albeit in an obvious way. She also understands the idol experience.

  • chachi

I agree completely, Spense. I think KC is pretty adorable and I’m truly happy for them :X

  • ettacandy

Again, a class act. David just may revive the Idol franchise. He’s a charmer, yes, and very well spoken. I know the song is cheesy beyond belief but he sells it and sings it well. Also, I am so happy for him! Look at his face as he speaks about going out on a date w/KC – he’s thrilled! It really is the time of his life. Good for him!

By asking Kim out on television DC basically offered the relationship up for public consumption and dissection. So, no “Wow” from me. The press tour is going to be filled with questions about it, and the fans are going to slice and dice the subject, just like they do everything.

Next time he asks a girl out, I hope he keeps it private. This stuff doesn’t make for the most scintillating blog material. LOL.

I keep hearing behind the scenes that Kim is a very nice, down-to-earth girl. I just wish she’d stop screaming at me on my TV. LOL.

  • sciencefan

Thank you SpenserJ for the voice of reason!
    I agree completely.

  • alysse157

I didn’t necessarily think that Regis asking about Cook’s personal life was something scripted/in the package. I was home today so got to see the whole episode and in the prior segment, with Kim Cattrall, Regis asked her a similar question about her own romantic situation. I find their show to be very tabloid-y, plus in the few episodes I’ve ever seen Kelly Ripa goes on and on about her husband and her kids, so I’m not surprised that they resort to delving into people’s personal lives.

Re KC, I found her annoying as a contestant and even more annoying as a TV hostess, but maybe that’s just part of her on-screen persona. I doubt it will last and also think this may be the first of many public post-Idol romances, so we better get used to it ladies! ;)

  • SallyS

Ruths Chris? With all the fabulous restaurants in LA they go there? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt about not having a more refined pallet being only 25. lol

  • colette

Another lovely performance. So darn consistent, and that falsetto — effortless. He had bronchitis? WHEN? Can’t wait for the album, hope the songs are great and worthy of those pipes.

Mentioned on another thread the realityshack.com interview with Kim C. from March where she mentioned dating 10 previous AI contestants — mainly because they are her “co-workers.”

The guy is only human, and she’s vivacious, glam & blonde. I hope he doesn’t go the total tabloid route though…I know more than I want to about John Mayer’s love life….

Wordy McWord on that. I think maybe I’ll just hide in the Jason Crack thread for a while and watch all of those videos Purps & PJ left for me :)

  • gumby

I finally watched the actual show, and thought he seemed a bit subdued on R&K. I expected him to be a bit more animated, but maybe he’s just not a morning person. (Being a bartender and performer, I would think not.)

That black jacket with the 3/4″ sleeves is obviously a personal favorite. He seems to wear it everywhere. Considering all the clothes he wore during the show, I hope he retires it soon. It looks like it shrunk at the cleaners.

I find myself humming that darned TOML *all* the time.

That’s basically the point I was attempting to make in my long drawn out perspective/dissection of the personal life questions in the LKL thread. Of course, the tabloids will love to jump on the love life of a “hot” new male (or female) “celebrity” but if DC (or any of the Idols) becomes the gossip column darling in his first 15 minutes, it could completely take away from the music and hurt the career he’s trying so hard to develop. While the fans may feed the beast by purchasing the rags, most of us really don’t need to, nor want to, know the every step of [insert name] personal life.

  • Layla

    SpenserJ,
    Love what you stated.

  • JudyOhio

I love DC’s voice, connection with the camera, the closeups, and his interview skills. However, the size 20 (?) boots, perfect little pocket hankie, looooonnnngggg scarf from the pants pocket, bands on both wrists, the evidently “special” necklace he always wears…….whew, just too much accessorizing (imo). Hopefully, he’ll get some help on this.

The KC/DC date questions in interviews have become boring. If they keep that up, it will start being like questions about JC’s dreads and don’t vote/vote, etc. The “talking points” SO get on my nerves (in politics also), but I guess it’s just a necessary evil, lol.

  • movin2thabeet

I’m loving the whole gestalt of David Cook. How he looks, how he conducts himself in interviews, his low-key energy level, and most especially of all, his beautiful voice. No guitar, sappy lyrics, and he still sang the heck out of that song.

  • baxter

WOW…fishing off the company pier is frowned upon where I’m from….LOL!!!

Can someone help me out here….I have watched KC on that Idol show ( SHUT UP ALREADY!!) so I’m not a big fan of hers, but what the hell else does she do the remaining 8 mos of the year??? I mean is she an asst manager at the Limited??? Hostess at Applebees?? Not trying to insult her but living in LA aint cheap and I highly doubt 4 mos worth of work will pay the bills the rest of the year.

BTW….I really want someone to flash a before and after pic of DC and ask him WTF were you thinking?? A red striped faux hawk and soul patch??? :)

  • cheese

The questions ARE very repetitive, but I don’t really expect anything interesting from Regis Philbin. I think David is doing his Idolatry and Rolling Stone interviews while he’s in New York this week, so hopefully there are some new questions and answers on the horizon. (Did I just use a phrase from “Magic Rainbow”?) If Slezak asks DC about Kim Caldwell, I will eat DC’s stupid back pocket scarf (the boy obviously needs a girlfriend to remove some of his accessories. At least the wallet chain didn’t make an appearance today)

I like Magic Rainbows better with just a piano, but it’s really a piece of crap song, especially compared to TWIK and David’s own stuff. I hope David is able to bust out an original during Thursday’s mini concert on Today (I think I remember Taylor singing one of his songs for a GMA concert, no?)

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I’ve met you Spencer! You’re no Kim Caldwell. LOL. I mean, all three of them on that Idol Tonight think hosting = shouting at me on my TV.

The Kim Caldwell stuff is starting to get out of hand. I definitely DON’T want this conversation to devolve into a blog on blog discussion, with one group of posters lecturing the other.

Kim Caldwell is also an Idol, so she’s kind of fair game here. At least posters aren’t changing her name into asterisks. ;) .

Having said that, I’m only going to allow so much handwringing on the subject. The conversation is becoming redundant.

    ETA:

She does a lot of corporate and speaking engagements. She seems to have a lot going on in the off season.

  • movin2thabeet

Well, it makes total sense for David to perform The Time of My Life as it is the first radio single and of course he wants to promote it as much as possible. Staying at #1 on iTunes is no mean feat. The song is building radio play across the country and getting David’s voice out into the world. It’s not my favorite song of his by a long shot, but if it helps pave the way to David’s future success, I’d say “it’s all guuuuud!”

  • wfowfowfo

OK ok, I apologize for my continued angst over DC dating KC. It really makes no sense that I’m even thinking about it, being that I’m old and married with teenagers and all. (Maybe it’s a transferrance thing because of my own boys? Who the hell knows?)

Enough out of me on that.

Help me out with the timelines on these interviews? Both Larry King’s and Ellen taped on were Friday, right? Regis and Kelly was today- and Mke and Juliet tomorrow? More more more!

I’ll bet he’s singing TOML on Mike and Juliet and from here out — seems that since the little uTube video thingie, tptb have mandated TOML: His New Official Single. I’ll love me some rainbows for a bit.

Then I have to go listed to Analog Heart for a while.

And, well, there’s always fucking CREEP!

    I love my tv boyfriend.

  • gumby

I hope someone soon asks him what it was like to hear TOML on the radio for the first time. Now that’s a much better question than delving into his personal love life. Of course, it’s possible he hasn’t heard it yet; I don’t think LA or NYC have jumped on board yet with radio play.

That question just might get him a little teary-eyed. Hope it’s televised when that moment happens!

  • GwendolynD

Well, he does make TOML palatable because I wouldn’t have listened to it from any other contestant. Never. Ever. But, can’t he throw in a line from “Creep” like Archie supposedly did with “Stand by Me/Beautiful Girls”? I would have loved to see Michael Orland try and keep up with that.

  • aidc08

The local radio station in Seattle FINALLY played TOML this morning. It was pretty cool.

MJ – The station mentioned when doing the song intro that is was breaking records all over iTunes – most downloaded song of the year, etc. Any news on that and other records it has broken?

That would DEFINITELY be nice! It’d be interesting to get a poll on which DC originals are people’s faves. “The Truth” and “Fall Back Into Me” are mine, I think.

I just wondered if Kimberly has a CD coming out…nice way to get her name out there for the non idol worshippers like myself…*cough*

  • aidc08

I think KC is working on a movie right now. She had one that went straight to video and another in pre-production.

Does she currently have a record deal? She seems to be doing more of the “actress” thing of late.

  • fannatic

I think he wants everybody to know he isn’t gay, lol. I mean, how many times have he cried on the show? I really like him as a musician but I think he could have done better. He should be dating someone with class.

  • colette

My superior, fine-tuned gaydar says “Cook: definitely straight.”

And I thought it was interesting when Larry King asked Kristy whether David H. was booted because he was outed. I think he could not have won anyway, because he just wasn’t original and compelling enough, but I do believe (unfortunately) that the outing probably cost him and made his run shorter.

Who knows, just conjecture. It will be interesting to see whether he can cobble together a career from this experience. It seems like the “lower echelon” of the top 12 or 24 really have to scuffle to get much of a lift-off from AI.

Looked great, sounded great on R&K. I am TOO EXCITED that he apparently shaved (yesterday?) :)

I don’t dislike KC/DC, just slightly jealous in that stupid fangirly way. I’ll get over it. I wonder if this is more of that marketing towards the guys? Like with the video games and stuff. Every guy I’ve asked thinks KC is hawt (and has no further opinion, lol)

  • skylight1219

It seems obvious to me that Cook likes Kim. He said they had a nice time on their date, and, wants to go out with her again. Guess his fans will have to get used to it.

  • cooktard76

Here are my 2 cents (more like 2 dollars):

Regarding KC: Cookie seems like the type who would fall VERY easily. Just imagine how he probably was in his hometown when he wasnt famous, just a regular guy who was tryin to make something of himself. Had a few gf’s I’m sure (cute/nice/ (hopefully) intelligent).

But now he’s SOMEBODY and this (in his eyes)FAMOUS celeb girl has the hots for him.
I look at it from my view (if I were in his shoes..er, boots): I had just become a household name practially overnite, and this somewhat known tv personality has made it known that they WANT me. Hell, i’d be all over it too.

I think once the nostalga wears off, so will this apparent crush he has on her.
I just find it difficult for him to be so busy (touring, recording a cd, multiple tv appearances) to get involved w/ someone and really make a connection w/ them.

On the other hand, like I said earlier, he is this extremely humble, generous seeming, nice guy and when nice guys start to fall for someone, they dont care WHO knows it.
Therefore, he doesnt care if he is talking about KC all over tv, but he must really like her (for whatever reason) and he is publicly showing her attention to show her, “hey i really do like u and this proves it. see what a nice guy i am? i’m not like those other rocker dudes that date and dump. I’m the real deal.”

I could honestly go w/o never hearing her name again.
I just hope he doesnt regret talking about her in interviews later on, b/c it just never seems to bode well after a break up and there you have all these clips that will forever remain of u constantly talking about them.

That is why i respect ppl like, say justin timberlake for example, who really do try to keep their private life private. Not b/c they want to offend their (mostly female) fanbase, but just b/c hey, i dont feel everyone needs to know EVERYTHING.

And dont get me wrong, i dont actually agree w/ the “its none of our business” aspect, b/c if u are in the public eye, and I just invested the last 5 months of my life (and phone line) to help get u where u are, i do like to know what goes on in your life. I do not, however, have to know EVERY detail of it.
So u are dating a girl? Thats great, good for u, much happiness. But for me, it can end there, i dont have to, or need to know more than that.

In true Cookie form, I think that is why he is not trying to keep it a secret, b/c we’re not stupid, we’ll find out anyway (thanks to ppl like the ones who work for tmz) so i think he feels, hey i’ll just be honest w/ my fans b/c if nothing else they deserve that. They may not agree w/ all my decisions (regarding song choice, fashion, or women) but they will love me just the same b/c as he said himself. We are in our own special “relationship” w/ him.

Sorry this was so long, but I had to get it off my chest. I for one, would not mind hearing about KC tho for a while in any more interviews. He’s addressed it and now lets all move on and focus on the album and the tour.
K, i’m done now, thank you.

  • chachi

Finally got to really watch this with a decent volume, and am just now realizing how sad I am that I can’t follow my TV Boyfriend every Tuesday anymore. Except for the whole being worried about him thing, because I am NOT going to miss that.

I think he sounds beautiful on the coronation song, but it’s just not him. At all. I cannot get past the lyrics, though the melody is fine, I suppose. I’m pretty irritated that they are making him sing this song everywhere, you’d think they’d want to promote who he actually is and let him sing something more “in his wheelhouse,” though I’m sure it’s because they want to sell more units of the lame thing.

  • Lisa

I truly hope David finds a pot of gold under that magic rainbow. Note to AI: Do NOT work out a deal with the Lucky Charms folks, thank you. I do have to chuckle though thinking how many women would buy Lucky Charms with David’s face on the box. “Kids it’s really good and nutritional!!” Stores would sell out, lmao.

Magic rainbow and all, you’re a’right Mr Cook!

  • chachi

  • LABYRINTH

YIKES, Kim Caldwell?!!!! She had relations with two guys that I know of from Season 2. Eeeks, good taste in music but very bad taste in women. Sorry, but he could do much better than that. I’m really getting tired of David talking about her and his love life. Yeah, I think he’s trying way too hard to prove he’s not gay. Just concentrate on your music and keep your love life private. Give it up dude, before you turn off a lot of people.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

Every winner to date has had to promote his or her single after the show ends. It’s part of the deal, like it or not. DC knows the deal, at least he does now. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by singing it, although he did seem to smile just a little bit more when he got to the “magic rainbows” line. He’s a smart cookie, that Cookie. If he plays nice early on, he might earn points when it counts. In the end, it’s about his album, not this single.

  • hollygo9

It’s weird but the more often this Kim Caldwell thing comes up in interview, the more it feels like a publicity stunt. It’s like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in the way that he seems to be screaming ‘I’m DATING SOMEONE’.
Makes me wonder…is he giving us something to talk about? I mean, something that isn’t Adam.
    Something unnatural about it.

  • chachi

Um chachi – Quit your whining

I don’t want to fight here because mj is so very awesome, but um…no.

This is one of the great big problems with American Idol. I know how it works and I’ve watched a long time. None of these kids should have to promote dreck when they are trying to be set up to be credible artists. Sorry, but they shouldn’t. That’s my opinion, and I’m going to give it.

  • Teresa75

I agree, but they know what they signed up for and that this is part of the deal. That’s why they have to sign their life away to even audition. Take it up with Nigel but just know that nothing will be done to change this aspect of AI….ever. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood managed to get their careers off the ground with no problem. Cook will do the same. Besides, why do you think cheesy ballads are such big radio hits anyway? Why has Diane Warren, the queen of cheesy ballad writing had so many #1 hits? Because people love that stuff whether they admit it or not. They eat it up.

  • chachi

And David Cook knows this and is handling it accordingly. However, I am not David Cook and I can feel bad for him accordingly. The song is ridiculous.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood managed to get their careers off the ground with no problem.

I hope he does make it, and he will face an uphill “credibility” battle no matter what. Hell, the group sings and the pointy poses have assured that, without the coronation song. I honestly believe that if anyone can pull out of that tailspin, it is David Cook. So don’t get me wrong, I believe that he can do it. I just don’t believe that any winner should be saddled with an even greater uphill climb than they have to because the show wants to make a buck. Again, personal preference here. I don’t think it’s whining to express such. It’s an aspect of the show that I think needs to be changed. I love the cheese ON THE SHOW, but I wish that these coronation songs would go the way of the dodo.

Besides, why do you think cheesy ballads are such big radio hits anyway? Why has Diane Warren, the queen of cheesy ballad writing had so many #1 hits? Because people love that stuff whether they admit it or not. They eat it up.

Diane Warren is like Mozart compared to this song. Again, my opinion.

  • Teresa75

Well D. Cook is a POP rock singer just like Clarkson and Daughtry, not a straight up rocker anyway, so a little cheese won’t hurt him one bit. No real HARD rocker will ever make it on AI. Amanda’s lucky she got as far as she did. I’m not even sure what to classify her as. Quite frankly, I’m sick of the whole AI rocker thing already. Ever since Seaon 4, SOMEONE or SOMEONES every season has tried to be the cool rocker guy or girl on this show. If they were true rockers, they sure as hell never would’ve tried for AI!

  • sumidol

“If they were true rockers, they sure as hell never wouldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve tried for AI!”

I TOTALLY believe this to be true and I will bet that Cook never thought – oh yea – I want to be the Idol rocker dude. He kinda fell into it waiting for his brother to try out and maybe, hopefully, he can get past that image because I think that he is edgier and really can rock. Now if you mean be like Metallica and such, then no, but I do see him as less of a pop star than any of the rest in Idol history and could really see Cook getting past the pop image. I hope so because I have always said that same thing, I really dont see how AI can be good for a “rockers” image. I hope Cook will be the one to overcome that.

  • Hoothere115

Kimberly Caldwell, of all people. Why Cook, why?? I would approve if it was a person of class, e.g. Mandy Moore… and if it must be a former Idol, why not Carrie Underwood, fellow winner??! David Cook is TOO GOOD for Kimberly Caldwell. I can’t believe he would even consider going on a date with her after she said things like “I want to have his babies”! Ugh. And to make it such a public affair as well. She must be loving all this exposure. Nice job, Caldwell. I have no respect for that woman. None at all.

  • chachi

Well D. Cook is a POP rock singer just like Clarkson and Daughtry, not a straight up rocker anyway

Analog Heart is very pop rock, with a bit of an alt rock edge thrown in. There’s no question in my mind that this is where he is headed. I am actually a hard rock/alt rock/metal girl, but music is about emotional response for me, so I’ve liked things outside of the harder genres, but 95% of what I listen to is men screaming. That being said, I find rock “credibility” to be a completely ridiculous concept, but I also believe that it’s a male driven concept, so there is no chance of me understanding it. That’s the hump he has to get over in the aftermath of the Magic Rainbow song. I wonder how the male audience will play into it, and if it will hurt him if he doesn’t have them on his side. It will be interesting to follow.

I think that David Cook should do what he is best at for his album, and that’s a powerful emotional selling of a song. If he can accomplish that, I think that his album will sell. If he tries to be something else, I don’t think it’s going to do as well. The pop rock vein is where he becomes exceptional, and that’s where he should stay, imo. If he ventures into harder stuff, it will turn more of the “mainstream” audience off, and too many of the “harder rock credibility issues” will come into play, though “Stitches” is my favorite track from Analog Heart.

  • Teresa75

I very much agree with this. I love his pop rock sound just like I love Daughtry’s and Clarkson’s pop rock sounds.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Umm, isn’t David Cook old enough to decide who he wants to date? I don’t know anything about Kim C other than her stint on TV Guide, and I don’t really care. But even if I did know a lot about her and I didn’t find her living up to my standards, it’s not my call is it? I’m not the one who’s dating her. I try not to project my “standards” on someone else’s life.

I guess it’s easier to justify if you think he’s just after a roll in the hay or to prove he’s not gay. However, none of us know him or her. We just know a little based on their public personae. Maybe he’s “worse” than she is? Or maybe they’re both complicated human beings that we’re quick to judge.

Anyway, I hope he’s enjoying his much deserved Idol victory.

  • cheese

I would also prefer not to taste the magic rainbow, but the promotion of the song is probably almost over (I’m not aware of any appearances coming up after this week, not that DC’s official myspace is updated or anything *cough*). The Cooktards and AI super fans have their souvenir from Season 7, it will quickly die off on radio in another week, and DC can move on.

  • Michelle

Aha, is Stitches considered on the harder side? I feel all *edgy* now cause I love that track :D I usu don’t go for the harder rock stuff (I don’t even really like his Axium stuff) but I think he’s good at making the sound listenable for even not-really-rock-fans like me.

If Analog Heart is any clue, he’ll have no problem going mainstream. When I first heard it I thought it was really easy to listen to, and a lot like stuff already on the radio. Even to the point of being a little generic :P But surprisingly good for an indie album. Hook him up with some decent songwriters and producers to collab with, and I think he’ll do amazingly well.

I’m anxious for the first single too (not counting ToML). Maybe end of summer? Hopefully they can keep him in the media till then so I don’t die of deprivation :D

  • chachi

Aha, is Stitches considered on the harder side?

Only in the relative to AH sense, I think, lol. However, I am sure you are quite edgy in your own way, though! Try feeding babies to lions or driving cars into brick walls! That will up your cred. I am not edgy AT ALL, and am actually a HUGE nerd. I just like things screamy and angry for some reason.

Sorry if I’m spamming guys, I’m down sick with a 100.6 fever and swollen glands. I feel like ass and am just dying for entertainment. I will try to hold back a bit.

  • Teresa75

Oh no….this is JUST the beginning of the seemingly endless Disney and rainbows promotion. Don’t expect him to move on from it anytime soon. Won’t happen.

  • skylight1219

David Cook just won AI. Give him a chance to breathe. I remember Taylor saying after his win, and, he was doing some dorky dancing someplace, that it was the most action he’d had in 6 months.

I think to say that Cook is too good for Caldwell is saying that his fans know what’s best for him, and, that they actually know him personally. She is very pretty, has a sultry, smoky voice, and, he apparently, is attracted o her. Whether its a publicity stunt or not, who cares? Fans are fans. Buy his music, support his touring, and, his personal life is just that – his personal life. Even though he made it public, that’s just the kind of guy he seems to be. He doesn’t want a bunch of crazy fangirlys asking him out in every city he visits. I think he’s just too nice of a guy to want to hurt other people’s feelings. So, he can legitimately say, he has a girlfriend, or is seeing someone.

    Now, back to the music.

Magic rainbows and Disney promo for at least a year….get used to it kids.

  • LABYRINTH

David was on Extra and again talked about Kim. Dude we get it, you’re a real man and the rumor that you’re having an affair with one of your closest friends who’s married is just that, a rumor. I would like to hear him talk more about the shenanigans that went on backstage with the other finalists or about the upcoming tour and talk less or not talk at all about his love affair with Kim. She might end up to be the Delilah in his life; I hope not.

  • Teresa75

It is odd that he asked her out on National television. Screams publicity stunt to me. I have no idea why he thinks he needs that publicity though. He just won the biggest damn show on the planet! Sometimes, I get the feeling he might have a slight bit of attention-whore in him. If that’s the case, then he and Kimmy C. make the perfect pair.

  • skylight1219

Ooh, I’d love to hear the backstage shenanigans too.

  • Teresa75

Was there some rumor going around about him being gay? Is that why some have suggested he did this prove he’s not? I had not heard this rumor if there was one. Perhaps he figures it will happen sooner or later and better to head it off now.

  • smartcookie

I can see several reasons to have this very public thang goin’ on with someone (and Kimberly Caldwell will do).

    1) Nip in the bud any gay rumors. (Happened to Clay. Happened to Taylor.)

    2) Provide a reasonable excuse to turn down the hundred million fangirls demanding dates in every city. (Embarrassed him during the questions section of the show already.)

    3) Nip in the bud any rumors that he is having an affair with a married friend. (Who is that supposed to be? Michael or Carly?)

    4) Keep the “hot guy” persona turned to 11.

    5) Keep his name in the press while he has not much going on except rehearsing for the tour.

    6) Have some fun away from his tour buds who are all in relationships except Archie, who doesn’t want a relationship and has his mom along for companionship, anyway.

I have no idea if this is a love match or a PR stunt or somewhere in between, but he seems like a mature guy with a very secure family life, and he’ll be able to handle it. He doesn’t get to pick my dates, and I don’t get to pick his. End of story.

  • LABYRINTH

HAHAHAHA Smartcookie, Michael or Carly? Yeah, I’m referring to the friend who’s female. Before Kim came along it was Carly who he couldn’t stop talking about and how much he loved her to death, as a friend of course, wink3x.

Hey if that Disney promo for the next year brings him to Orlando – BRING IT ON, baby.

  • sumidol

Maybe I said it wrong when I said what I did about Cook. When I think of a “pop” star I think of The Backstreet Boys or NSYNC, Britney Spears, thats what I was trying to say. So, I dont think of Cook as a pop star as perceived by me at least. I LOVE Staind and I can see Cook doing something like that after he shakes the fairy dust and rainbows off in a year or two. I can see him telling a story with emotion too, I think he has more substance, thats all. I think someone used edge or edgy at least 10 times in one paragraph, very clever. But what I meant by edgy is “sharply defined and innovative as Cook has proved he can be not the other meaning of edgy as in irritable, as I guess my comment made some people)

  • Trina

I hate to say it but I’m getting annoyed too now. I have no problem at all with him wanting to date, NONE, but putting it out so publically, so quickly and sudden it’s too jarring and taking away from his win. Now there are fans upset and backing off. Stupid, stupid. He didn’t need this kind of backlash so soon. If it’s a PR stunt the only person that will benefit is Kim.

  • voteDC

Wow, talking about Miss Caldwell AGAIN on Extra??!! Okay, Mr. Cook, if you get to see this forum, listen (or Carly, when you see this message, please relay it to your buddy): yes, we know you are not gay now. And you are totally capable of falling in love with a woman. I personally prefer you to have your private life strictly private. Let us concentrate on your singing the rainbow, okay? It’s a bit distracting when I try to visualize the magic rainbow when Miss Caldwell is in the picture (truth: my heart aches a little bit every time when you fancy a girl so openly on TV).

  • LABYRINTH

Oh, I think he’s pretty much aware of the backlash. For his sake though, I hope he would put an end to this by keeping his private life private and just move on with his music. I just hope the other rumor doesn’t impede him from doing a duet with Mrs Smithson bec I think they would really be great on stage together and would totally rock like nobody’s business.

  • sunya

First, the Lucky Charms thumbsnap was priceless. Thank you. Second, no one owns David Cook but… yes, David Cook so who he dates and the fact that he shared that with the world… It’s ok. I laughed so hard at the thumbsnap AND at all of these posts! Who are we, anyway, taken by a television show and so much involvement in some else’s dreams and goals? Are we neglecting our own??

I have never watched American Idol until this year and only made the trek into someone else’s home to see David sing “The First Time Ever…” because my boyfriend sang that song to me over the phone accompanied with his classical guitar many, many, dare I say another – many – years ago. And I have to say I was hooked on Cook! I hope he has a wonderful career and a marvelous life. This guy has been pictured carrying and hugging little kids, loves his family, loves music. Certainly he should have a family of his own. Maybe he’s starting to look around for that connection. He’s smart about a lot of stuff…. surely, he’ll can figure this one out, too. I am just hoping he doesn’t get so hooked into fame and fortune that he neglects what life is really all about. I will enjoy watching his career unfold.
    Best to all–

Well, he does make TOML palatable because I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have listened to it from any other contestant. Never. Ever. But, canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he throw in a line from à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Creepà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ like Archie supposedly did with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Stand by Me/Beautiful Girlsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? I would have loved to see Michael Orland try and keep up with that.

GwendolynD…that really cracked me up! Uh…by the way do you know where I can get an MP# of DC’s version of Creep-I love how he does that song and want it on my IPOD. His pre-idol stuff is really really good. Hope we get that vibe on his CD.

So, the KimCook affair is all over the place now. Search “David Cook” on google news and see what are up on the top list (yes, I am a freak, I searched google news for him). I don’t know whether it’s good or bad. He got all the attention now but not about his rainbow.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

The reason they’re bringing up David’s love life is to make sure all the hausfraus don’t get delusional and think they can one day have him. That’s how Taylor’s and clay’s fanbases destroyed their credibility and career, their fanbase scared other people from joining.

  • sciencefan

Oh dear. I thought Cookie asking Kim out was so romantic!
I got the impression that he had been wanting a chance to see her, and this was the first chance he got. Maybe he wasn’t sure when he’d get to see her again.

Maybe he was a little impetuous, and maybe didn’t think through the details of asking her out in public. Frankly, I haven’t been listening to her gush about him all season. Maybe there was some mention made of wanting to go on a date with him?

I agree with everyone who has pointed out the fact that Kim is loud. To my ears, her voice is actually a little abrasive, but the way she turned into an excited school-girl, when David asked her out, made her seem more human to me. I was happy for her. It is certainly an honor for any woman to be asked out by David Cook!

The TV Guide channel actually showed a little story on her the other day. They were showing pictures of this GORGEOUS little girl, and it turned out to be Kim! Some other hairstyles she has worn in the past were much more becoming than what she has now. She was actually very photogenic as a child!

She has some music on her myspace. She sounds husky, like Joplin, but she’s doing Country.
