The above wording on Pop TV is full of so much fail. David won 2 years ago. Kris won his season, was not the runner-up (I could snark on that media mistake so badly right now, because it really explains so much of the post AI8 situation)

I didn’t watch the whole thing, but I did see LaKisha Jones being asked when she got her spray tan, and her response — “At birth” — was hilarious.

That is such a weird combo of awkward and adorable. I’m really happy to see those 3 all friends like that.

Side note: Andrew looks ridiculous with that mustache. I can see why David keeps making fun of it on Twitter.

Aren’t paparazzi at least supposed to know who the people are that they’re stalking? LOL –That’s just sad. I had no idea what they were talking about with David going to China. That was weird — but hey, it looks like he could have a back-up career as a cameraman.

Kris needed to take that toothpick out of his mouth. I think I saw Katy and Mama Iraheta. too. It was very cool that David and Kris got to celebrate Alli’s birthday with her. Happy Birthday, Allison!

The bizarre thing to me about that video is the David Cook minutia that the paps were spitting out. “Pain don’t hurt”? That was his favorite quote as listed way back on his original AI.com contestant profile. But it’s not something I’ve really ever heard him quote or say since then. And the China thing I remember too – there was a very early article or interview that said Cook had been planning a trip to China that was delayed/canceled when he made it out of the cattle call auditions. But again, that was never confirmed by Dave and based on his reaction last night I’m guessing it was some weird bit of misinformation that got thrown around during his Idol run. But the question is – how on earth did a random paparazzo glom onto those two bits of Internet Idol trivia? Crazy.

I don’t think that Papp had any idea who anyone was besides Cook.

I’m not implying. Almost everybody does it. It’s not a secret that the food at Katsuya and especially at the Ivy sucks , but it’s a paparazzi place, so people still go there. That’s what I think happened too. I still like to drag my friends out to those super fancy places that I normally wouldn’t go for my birthdays, and I’m not 18 =P. Loved how Dave managed to turn an awkward situation into something fun/funny with the camera. He has the touch. And kudos to Kris for handling the set-you-up Crystal question so adoritly. Two great representatives for AI right there.

Paparazzi vids are sooo uncomfortable: the paps either barely know who they are talking to, or you’re never sure if they’re just trying to bait the celebs they corner, and the subjects are usually trying to remain halfway friendly while thinking “damn, bring my car around, damn get me out of here..”

…and random people online get to do “he or she was sooo awwwkwaaard” while cornered by a pack of strangers with cameras.

Oh plenty is said to Andrew on Twitter and at times I’ve seen some be pretty nasty too. However Andrew himself sometimes tends to be a little obnoxious. His last little Twitter party caused some drama when he said he found it to be annoying/weird that so many people have avatars of David and the band. He got hit pretty hard with some harsh stuff after that.

r/e Andrew, I don’t see any problem with him hanging out with his brother in LA and enjoying himself. He has an internship, right? I know when my brother was a local hiphop artist our younger brother would always come hang out with him – why not? Even at the indie level you got to meet the other artists, go to cool places, hang out in the VIP section, and since my brothers were both single of course girls were a big draw, ha! Me? I had to keep everyone out of trouble and make sure the venue paid us the money. It was more fun before I became his manager, when I got to party, too ;) If my brother had ever “made it” you can bet my siblings and I would have gone to LA or whatever and hung out with him, heh.

I remembered seeing the mess in the back during the Jumping Jack Flash performance, and then seeing subsequent post-performance pictures that same day with Orianthi, and for Ryan Seacrests’ show, and wondering why his hair looked fine in the photos afterwards, but so weird on Idol. And it was okay the next day for the If I Can Dream House visit as well. And for the IGB appearance, the hair was such a crazy mess. Granted, it was still a bit bed-head-ish in the Ethiopia video, but much more normal looking and much less distracting.

So I’m not the only one who often finds Andrew obnoxious with the maturity level of a 12 yr. old? Although I get the avatar weird factor.

And I have to laugh, I guess I’m just a skeptic, but I never quite believed that story of David’s “accidental audition.” I always thought it was a pretty smart story made up to try and maintain Dave’s cool factor. And it never really bothered me, because I totally get it—it’s hard to be a rocker off Idol.

I did notice a bit of… fluffage… on the back of his head for his Idol performances, lol. I still can’t over how much weight he’s lost. I bet he wears a hat on Sunday so we may have no hairdo to discuss, ha! (At least this time I know that he’ll probably speak after the race and I should make my way to the stage *quickly* and not dawdle around arguing with my son over what he wants for a snack and end up *behind* the stage…)

Looks like Allison’s 19E management was in attendance yesterday.

Wasn’t it about one year ago exactly that David and Andrew’s brother Adam died? I remember how subdued Cookie was at some of his appearances beforehand, when Adam was finally dying, and how emotional Dave was at his first concert back after the funeral. I am so glad David seems to have had a good healing year.

And I have to laugh, I guess I’m just a skeptic, but I never quite believed that story of David’s “accidental audition.

There was a clip of David and his brother waiting in line during the auditions, where their mom had a sign with something like “Go Andrew and David!”, so if David and his mom was there only to support Andrew, that sign would only have Andew’s name on it, don’t you think?

Does anybody have that clip?, I’m pretty sure I saw it somewhere, don’t know if it actually aired on tv or not.

Allison Iraheta celebrated her 18th birthday one night early, dining at L.A.’s STK with “American Idol” winners David Cook and Kris Allen on Monday evening.

The three, along with Kris’ missus, Katie, and members of Allison’s management team at 19 Entertainment, presented the birthday girl with a cake replica of the cover to her debut album, “Just Like You,” after feasting on the steakhouse’s world-class meaty entrees.

With 19 in attendance you would think the press would have got some more facts right, like that Kris wasn’t runner-up or that David is not 2009′s winner! That group pic cuuuuute.

at the same time those nutty fans who enjoy lusting over his brother are a good part of the reason why he’s able to live in a nice house in the Hills. YMMV.

Mathematically, no. Even if one assumes that the nuttiest, lustiest fans spent more money, 300 or so fans buying multiple CDs, attending multiple shows, and buying some merch, all together, might have added up to a nice car at best. It’s the funds from the casuals who don’t completely obsess that aggregate up to the nice house in the Hills.

ETA: Guess I’m still skeptical that 19 engineered it, because they could have done a better job. I think it really was more Alli wanting to go somewhere fun and at least moderately age-and-Idol appropriate and 19 making some arrangements and showing up to maximize the opportunity. But that cake sounds cute.

But for some reason, I actually buy into the Accidental Audition storyline. Now don’t get me wrong, I actually think David was open to the idea and went with Andrew for moral support and very easily got talked into doing the audition himself, but something about the way his friends talk about it now, at how incredulous they were that he did it, at the pretty hard razzing he got (I got the feeling that not all of it was good natured either) from them, and then their surprise when he finally did it, something about it struck me as something that he never discussed with them until after he had auditioned and done the deed. So even if at the back of his mind, he had thought to himself that he was going to do it anyway, it seems to me it really was never actually verbalized until he got to Omaha. Plus, I just don’t see Beth letting her boys get away with that big whopper of a lie. Hee.

My understanding is that David got talked into it the day/night before when you had to go and register. The actual auditions didn’t take place until a day later, so there’d be time for Beth to make the poster.

He had months to go back and research, and a brother who was obsessed with it. And, clearly, Youtube. That just makes him smart and prepared, which we knew. Heh.

Anyway, I don’t think it’s a huge gloss; I think Beth F. probably talked him into it rather than the producer, but I do think it was an internal struggle and he wasn’t himself sure that he’d audition until he actually registered. I think some story about Ryan Star brought out that he’d thought about auditioning for Rockstar, and decided against it, and that show arguably had more cred than AI.

Yes, it would have been May 2nd since the Race for Hope was May 3rd (I know this since I’m wearing my t-shirt from last year as I get ready to go coach soccer…) and Adam had passed away the night before. (The race this year is May 2nd, it’s this coming Sunday).

There are clips from his first audition and he says there that he didn’t go to audition but a producer convinced him too. It’s there, on the video for that first audition. I don’t remember the sign, I don’t even remember seeing their mum there lol, but the moment he decides to audition, maybe she decided to add his name? They’re there for hours and hours, lol there’s time for everything. His mum wanted him to audition though, so maybe it wasn’t just the producers.

Oh, I don’t believe he was a residual watcher, I actually believe he had never seen AI (maybe once at best lol). He went back and watched some of the best contestants, but I’m sure he never watched much of the show. And in the semi-finals he commited one of the biggest mistakes, he talked back. I think if he had been a faithful viewer, he would have known better. lol he learned well after that.

You’re in my brain! That’s exactly what I think happened! David was working on his second solo album in Tulsa and hanging around indie starving musician friends and bandmates. I don’t disbelieve for a second that he had to be prodded to audition by his mother and brother. There’s a Fox4KC interview they did with the Cook brothers after the first round of auditions, and David actually talks about having to be prodded back then, and about hanging around in circles that may have preconceptions about Idol or the idea of a music “competition”. My interpretation is that Andrew wanted David to audition with him, and David said no initially, but Beth and Andrew easily convinced him to accompany them. David had an inkling he might be convinced once he was already there, and likely didn’t even need all that much prodding but told his friends in Tulsa he was only going as Andrew’s moral support because he didn’t want to admit he was really going to do it to his friends, at least not unless he made it. But he did, and he made it, and the rest as they say is history.

Really? He looks normal to me. I keep hearing people talk as if his physique is drastically different, but I honestly don’t see this OMGZ dramatic change. Is it just me? He looks like a shed a few pounds, and looks healthy and good, but he’s still got a bit of a gut. Which is totally fine, btw. But yeah, I don’t see this amazing transformation. Which, again, is good. I prefer subtle improvements.

I don’t think he followed the show prior to being on it, but saw things on youtube and did his research once he got through. He’s also admitted to reading the boards, and stuff. If you read about this year’s crop, a lot of them aren’t Idol watchers either, but Casey talked about doing his research and youtubing Brooke White and Michael Johns, etc. I think that’s similar to what David did, only better =P.

anyway, even if 19 arranged that dinner, i see it more as friends and co-workers celebrating alli’s bday… not really a PR thing.

Yes. In fact after he took his 4-day absence from the road, his first show was in fact here on 4/2 and Adam died exactly one month later on 5/2. I remember seeing the vids from the Athens, GA show (5/4) two days after Adam’s death and then the show the day after Adam’s funeral. Dave could barely hold it together at some points from the vids I saw. Dave had so much on his plate personally and professionally that first year after winning AI.

It is nice to see that smile on his face. :)

Sma11ie, I think he looks fantastic, he just looks very trim. Much moreso than when he was on tour.

Smallie, Phil Marshall spoke once during his between songs banter about the hard time David got for going on Idol, “You wanna be a popstar?”, but I’ve also always thought that Beth mousetrapped David in the sweetest way – just as she spoke to his music teacher in elementary school. who subsequently “made” David sing for a school thing.
What’s ironic is the ‘agreement’ – ‘give it till 26, and if it hasn’t worked, then come home.’ I can see Beth was concerned for David’s future happiness – but if that meant music – she would stand behind him, and enable him. There is a FOX4KC interview, maybe the same one you are referencing, IDK, where the interviewer who filmed that very early example of David singing outside the building shows David an email he got from Beth, about both of her sons going to be at the Omaha audition. David stops and asks to see it, reads some out loud, and then says – “That explains it.” and sort of laughs. (wish I could locate it)
I took that to mean – that explains the story of the approach at the audition that pushed him over the line into signing up – and I think Beth was the mover behind it happening. She had to know if Andrew asked David to come, he wouldn’t refuse him…and she was looking out for both her boys.

David is very fortunate in the people who love him, IMO. I was at the show in Louisville the day before Adam’s funeral, and saw that in action, from Andy and Neal especially.

Loved this video. Paps are good for something, I guess, LOL. I love seeing videos of Dave when he’s not in interview mode and he’s relaxing and smiling and laughing. And I love how he turned the tables on the pap and started taping him. How adorkable. And yes, that is one beautiful car.

I thought it was interesting that the pap brought up the China trip, as I’d heard that rumor before also but had never heard David mention it. He certainly acted like he had no idea what the guy was talking about here, so that was either all a fabrication or it’s just something he doesn’t want to talk about.

Beth seems like such a cool mom. I love when David tells the story of how she got him to start singing in public in second grade. He said she heard him singing around the house, noticed he was good, and I think he said something like, “she took matters into her own hands, as mothers will do” and spoke with his music teacher. He says that about his mom with so much affection. It’s adorable. I also loved that Beth flew out to LA EVERY week during the competition to support David.

Heh. There certainly are a lot of them lurking out there. The valet car area is the Kill Zone for the paparazzi, I see. That’s kinda funny, to see them documented. David told a story last year of having his picture snapped at an airport, and snapping pictures back at that particular pap – he’s still turning the tables. ;)

I love the pic they have up at the LA Times of all three of them, Allison, Kris, and David. They really look happy and like they are having a great time. The second video is much better than the first. The one that shows what Cook took of the paps with the TMZ camera. Hilarious. They also have more of all 3 of them and know who Kris and Allison are.

I remember when he turned his camera on them before. He’s not the first celeb to do it and they get REALLY MAD since the flash into their cameras makes it so they have a picture at all. LOVE IT!

Now I want to see a picture of the cake. I’m sure it will surface. Very nice of 19 to do that for her.

Hearing people rag on Andrew for hanging out with his brother and going to a party I’m sure he was invited to strikes me as quite silly. By all accounts the Idols become extended family members with each other and their families. There all in a unique position.

ahh ross, it’s not blaming at all from me. Whatever Kris will do, I’ll be always fine with it! It’s just a consideration that I have that he is way too young to become bald or partially bald especially that he’s so handsome (not that he won’t be otherwise, it’s just a matter of tastes). And since it’s on the top/back of his head, it seems to me that it could be easily fixed (more than a receding hairline).
We can see the very much thinning spot in the first video when he turns his back to the camera.

Hey Ross, I’m a woman and these discussions bug me, too. For me, a good-looking guy looks every bit as good bald, maybe more so. I have a hard time imagining Kris as the kind of guy who would use rogaine or get hair transplants.

Haha, I know it’s not their fault, I jus keeding. No need to get so sensitive. I discuss David’s hair a LOT, but mostly complaining about the cut, the stringy bangs, the fluffiness of the back, etc. and rare, I think, about the actual hair loss. That doesn’t bother me at the end of the day, cuz like you said, nothing he can do. I just complain about how he cuts/wears/styles his hair mostly, cuz that he can help. And I think Mtlfan is talking about when Kris had his back to the camera and you can see the thin patches. I noticed, but it’s not that bad, IMO. And yes, David has a thinning hairline, particularly on the right side of his hairline, if we must get specific, but it’s not that noticeable, and again, I was just joking around. Also not a big deal, really. I hope David and Kris will be cool with their hair loss, and if they choose to do anything about it, that it’s because they want to and it makes them feel good.

I’m not sure if Michelle was there, but I do see Katy Allen, Kris’s lovely wife.
