I’m hearing that David Cook will perform “Happy Christmas, War is Over” at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in New York City tomorrow night.

The show will air at 8 pm ET on NBC.

UPDATE:Â   I’m also hearing there’s going to be a “holiday greeting” from David on Good Morning America tomorrow around 8 amish…

  • fallforever

Oh, pooh. I was really hoping for ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’. ‘War is Over’ is a drone-fest.
Well, (brightens up) if anyone can make it appealing, it’s Cook.

  • domi

David Cook will cover a rocked-out cover version of this song by Eric Lapointe

  • Mia

I thoght it was a John Lennon song.

  • leome

    I was really hoping for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢.

Me too, lol. He had some versions of that one in his Ipod.

    I like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Happy Christmas, War is Overà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , but I hope he rocks it out.

    Thanks MJ for the info.

  • Michelle

Hm, not one of my fave xmas songs I’ll admit, but I’ll wait to see what he does with it…poor thing, having that cold and then having to fly and then sing…

  • KarenLE67

Well I for one love this song and love DC, so I will be really excited to see this! I’m glad he’ll be doing a Lennon song, I’ve been thinking for a while now the needs to find one to suit him. I do hope he does his own arrangement rather than this Eric Lapointe one, I didn’t like it much. One of the things I really like about a few of the songs on DCTR are the multiple guitars and what a nice rich, layered sound they have – I’d be hoping for more of that kind of sound with a cleaner arrangement and clearer vocals than this utube example.

Am I the only person who hates “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”?

I think David mentioned in a radio interview that he’s planning on doing an acoustic performance for the tree lighting appearance. I hope that’s still true. I like Happy Christmas (War is Over) as long as Yoko isn’t making all that noise in the background.

  • Kirsten

as long as Yoko isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t making all that noise in the background.

See, now I was hoping that Yoko would make a surprise appearance. That would be made of win.

Not my favourite Christmas song, but at least it’s better than that Christmas song by another Beatle (“Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime” puts me in a decidely non-Christmas mood. I loathe that song).

  • Michelle

    Am I the only person who hates à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ?

    Nope.

I was secretly hoping for O Holy Night.

  • smartcookie

Paul McCartney’s “Simply Having” has been chosen more than once as the worst Christmas song of all time. Right up there with “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.”

I love “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” but it’s gotten to be a little overdone. I would’ve gone for “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” the other tearjerker.

Or, you know, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” or “Jingle Bell Rock” just for kicks.

  • AInoob

cheese, I can’t link to it since I can’t access myspace at work, but Joey posted in his last blog that David and Neal would be going to NYC for the tree lighting so I guess that means the plans are still for acoustic versions of whatever he sings.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I need David to decide which coast he wants to be on – East or West.

Hopefully, an MP3 version of this will turn up somewhere. I need help getting into the holiday spirit.

  • Lisa

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll Be Home for Christmasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

That one would be on the top of my list too.

Gwen, he could always compromise & come back to Tulsa. :laugh_tb:

  • Squirrelly

We should know by now that everything DC chooses to do musically does great. I can’t imagine David doing a “bad” job, so I’m not worried at all. I would love to hear him sing “O Holy Night” because I know he can hit all the high notes and give me goosebumps, but I’ll settle for anything that comes out of those sweet lips!

  • sunchick

    Am I the only person who hates à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Nope, me too. (Or four..) Happy Christmas (War is Over) is actually my favorite Christmas song, so I’m pretty…well, happy. What would have really made my life, though, is this: Cookie covering Snowmiser’s theme from The Year Without A Santa Claus and then Neal countering with the Heatmiser version. For reals. With the hair all spiky. Damn, maybe next year.

I also kinda dig Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses, but I can’t picture Cook singing it. Snoopy vs. Red Barron….nahh.

  • IGetCranked

OMG domi! I can hear him singing that!

  • Seachange

Wow on the Eric La Pointe version. But I think David will do the “War is Over” part more the Lennon/Ono way — you know, “anthemically”? But for something different I would love him to do the Pretenders’ 2000 Miles, especially if he’s going acoustic. I think it would be awesome.

  • leome

The ohhhohhhhohhhh part of A Daily AntheM is very inspired in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Happy Christmas, War is Overà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , he may go for that anthemic sound…

  • beesims

I work right by Rock Center and when I come out of the subway, I exit right by the tree and the stage. 2 years ago I caught Taylor Hicks doing a soundcheck for the tree lighting. Maybe I will get lucky again and catch Cookie :happy_tb:

  • psyche

I lvoe that song! I hope their will be a video posted of it online, as I won’t be around to watch it tonight.

  • smartcookie

It’s tomorrow (Weds) night, isn’t it?

  • AInoob

Yep, the lighting is tomorrow night.

beesims, I work right by Rock Center as well but with my crappy luck I’m not holding out much hope of catching any Cookie crumbs. I’m not looking forward to dealing with the crowd of young girls that the JoBros will likely inspire.

  • CathyMK

Joey’s blog post with the mention of David and Neal doing the Christmas show is here:

    http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=355495255&blogID=452500560

Cookie covering Snowmiserà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s theme from The Year Without A Santa Claus and then Neal countering with the Heatmiser version.

Sunchick, I’ve been thinking the same thing! I love Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s version. David and Neal would have a ball with it!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMjAf8Nwohs

ETA: Someone on another board mentioned that the NYC NBC station will be showing an extra hour of the show, from 7-8 PM. Is anyone able to record it for us? Or will it be streamed? I’m kind of worried that David will be in that part, with so many big names also appearing.

  • Barbariba

If I recall correctly, David was asked what his favorite Christmas song is. He answered, “Happy Christmas, War Is Over”. While it’s not my all-time Christmas favorite, I do like the song. I can’t imagine David not singing this song and making me absolutely love it. He does this to me.

I would love to hear him sing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“O Holy Nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ because I know he can hit all the high notes and give me goosebumps, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll settle for anything that comes out of those sweet lips!

That?? Is my favorite Christmas song. My life would be complete if David sang that.

  • sunchick

Sunchick, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been thinking the same thing! I love Big Bad Voodoo Daddyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s version. David and Neal would have a ball with it!

Yeah, finally some love for the Snowmiser song! THanks for the link, btw. I just went and downloaded Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s version from iTunes. Flove. Oh, you know what else would have been awesome? Cookie covering Back Door Santa.

they call me the back door santa
i make my runs about the break of day
they call me the back door santa
i make my runs about the break of day
i make all the little girls happy, while the boys are out to play

    Yeah. :smoke_tb:

    Another of my favorites…

Don’t Shoot Me Santa, The Killers

  • FolkFan

I have some trouble seeing Cookie doing it at this point in his career, but I think that he could have a good time with “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”

  • sunchick

Oh, you’re probably right, Folk Fan. It also would have been a bit, um, disconcerting considering the solemnity of the tree lighting ceremony and all. Still, a DC/EEB cover of Back Door Santa that was, perhaps, recorded on video, and, say, put up at the official site would make a very nice Christmas present for the fans…..jes saying… :innocent1_tb:

  • CathyMK

Heat Miser, Grinch, Back Door Santa… maybe we could hope for a Christmas single (or EP :lol_wp:) next year?

And thanks for pointing me towards The Killers song, SunChick- it’s loads of fun!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Hm. So, I’m hearing there’s going to be a Cookie Holiday Greeting around 8ish on GMA tomorrow…

I’ll record it just in case.

  • CookieLove1983

I am actually really excited to hear Happy Christmas. Its one of my favorite Christmas songs. I kinda hope he does it straight because it already is such a great song. O Holy Night would be great also

  • Jolene

Supposedly, DC will also be on Best Year Ever on VH1? Anybody knows anything about this? LeftiesRock on DC42 said he was in the promo. I’d love to know more about this, since his Best Week Ever appearance is still my favorite thing ever, pretty much.

I don’t actually know many Christmas songs, so I don’t have a preference one way or the other, but hey, if it’s his favorite one, I’m happy he gets to sing it.

  • leome

Someone on David’s site heard that he will be on Z100′s morning show tomorrow…

  • elisad

    Am I the only person who hates à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ?

Nope… I hope the “Best Year Ever” thing is true cause CNN’s Hologram needs to be made fun of on every show, even better if David does it.

  • lovegoodmusic

I sure hope the rumor is true that David Cook might be singing a John Lennon’s Christmas song à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Happy Christmas, War is Overà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I love that song and David will do it proud and honorably.

MJ Thank you for sharing all these tidbits, and I look forward for your video of David Cook’s Holiday Greeting on GMA.

  • dmr

The rumor about Happy Christmas (War is Over) is true because David SAID (in a radio interview) that he would be singing it. As others have mentioned, I would love to hear him sing O Holy Night–he would kill that song!! (In a good way, obviously.)

  • weareallinnocent

Here it is. And, it is beautiful.
