David Cook performs “Light On” this morning on Good Morning America, as part of their fall concert series. He performed some other numbers mostly off camera (except for glimpses during lead-ins after commercials), including “Heroes” and “Mr. Sensitive.”

In a pre-performance interview, GMA aired a little snip of David serenading Hilary Clinton at the Glamour Magazine Awards

Bonus: David and Stephen Colbert duet!!!

ETA: Added the TV commerical for David Cook that ran during GMA

Watch the videos after the JUMP…

“Heroes”, Stephen Colbert

Snip of Mr. Sensitive:

Interview with Diane Sawyer, and “Light On”

Awesomeness. The band has this song totally down now! I love me some Colbert but only slightly as much as bf. Thanks for putting it up so quickly MJ!

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

“Light On” is getting better and better…definitely more solidified.

According to someone who attended, they only performed teasers of MS and Heroes.

  • KarenLE67

Trust our word nerd to call Colbert on the book burning!

  • Trina

MJ did you happen to get the commercial for the album that aired during the show?? Thank you for posting this! My DVR crapped out on me.

Cookie & Stephen Colbert :wub_tb: That was made of win.

  • elisad

The talk about “causes” is because of this.

Aw, Hillary, I hope you become secretary of state. Aw, Cookie&Stephen, only Cookie&Jon could have been better.

(AMA pre-show)”The only performer airing on ABC”, does that mean what I think it means?

  • sma11ie

Wow! I’d like to announce that LO is no longer a difficult song to sing for DC! I mean, it’s kind of funny. (Barring the Soundcheck) I never really thought they didn’t do well on LO, and yet, each time I’ve seen them perform it, they’ve improved. I thought they did great on SNL despite nerves, but killed it on Leno. But now this? What comes after killing? Slayed? Pulverized? Haha, I need some wordnerd help.

The Colbert interaction was FTW. His impersonation of DC at the mike stand was hilarious, and DC calling out the book burning was great. And getting bits of other songs? Awesome. I caught Heroes… and what was the other song? ETA: So jealous of the studio audience. I wonder how many songs he performed for them…

  • dante

@*#### I forgot about this today and I was off work!!!! Thanks for posting mj.

Am loving DC with his band!!! or by himself.

  • tierbee

Thanks for posting this! I waited… and waited… and waited… and had to take my son to preschool about 3 minutes before David came on. I was hoping I could come back home and watch it, lol!!

  • waffle

Wow! That was the best “Light On” TO DATE! Good job DC! In other news, my husband surprised me tonight on our drive home from work, with two copies of The Record! When I asked him why two copies, he simply answered, so we can go ahead and leave one in this car. Oh, he knows me so well. :)

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I just added the TV commerical, and the snip of “Mr. Sensitive”

  • poporange

The problem is Daivd singing just not interested in it overall and his sound just blends with the rest of the singers out thier for me. This comes from expectations that I was hoping for something different in sound but I guess it is the winners curse of AI.Personally David Cook seems to displays a sence of humor has that nice dorkish quality to him .Nobody states this but Daivd Cook /Daivid A The guys fit AI pop music singer to a tee.(..good looking, good singer, does not rock the boat and sings rock/pop)which probalby makes the producers happy.

Steven Colbert is one of my favorites.

(fireants are hard to get out of undies I hear)

  • abbysee

(fireants are hard to get out of undies I hear)

    LOL!

  • http://www.myspace.com/veronique0882 llamacook

I was watching this morning. I was hoping Cook would join in the caroling. He didn’t disappoint. I have to say, I liked that more then Light On, even if it was a great performance of it. Way to my heart is to make me laugh.

  • daenarys

Wow, they keep getting better and better live! From SNL to Soundcheck to the David Wright Gala then Leno and now GMA: 5 public appearances together as a band? Progression! I loved seeing all the minute changes in Andy’s bigger musical input, and Kyle swinging in with backup vocals without missing a beat. They’re going to be awesome. I loved David saying “thanks for having US”. I think the way he sees it is not about ‘David Cook’ but he really loves getting back into a band unit.

As always, his unflappable sense of humour is so much fun. The fa-la-la-la-la with Colbert was hysterical!

  • CathyMK

What a fantastic thing to wake up to this AM! Cook and Colbert together has been one of my dreams- maybe David will get asked to appear on The Colbert report now that he and Stephen have met!

The band did a great job on LO. I think the SNL version is still my favorite though.

There’s way too much TV to watch this Sunday, what with David on the AMAs, Colbert’s Christmas show, and the 24 movie. How will I choose what to set the DVR for? :smile1_ee:

ETA: Forgot to say- Diane Sawyer was really giggly today. I think she’s a Cook and Colbert fan too! Perhaps another famous woman who’ll disappear for a few hours tomorrow while she listens to The Record?

  • kathrynTX

Oh too funny! Cook & Colbert FTW! Gawd, I just watched The Love Guru this weekend and the special feature on “the guys in the booth” was the best part! I watched it 3X. Sorry, OT there a bit. hee.

Light On was just killer. David is more confident singing LO and OH MAN, NEAL TIEMANN FTW on that gi-tar! Oh I just love the whole band. I cannot WAIT to see them live. Just when I think they can’t do anything to surprise me or get any better…BAM. Kinda like watching Cook on AI. Always moving forward. He is just a joy to watch – and hear. Makes me laugh, makes me cry..and everything in between. Lucky audience. Oh and what about Margot, the women who won a contest on DCO? I believe she was to get to meet him about 7AM…lucky lucky grrrrrrrrrrr…jealous me. :smile_wp: But good for her!

Well that was so much fun, I’m sure I’ll have to watch multiple times today. Thank you mj and all!

  • Trina

What I love is the clip of the Glamour awards where they actually show Hillary’s face as he’s singing rotfl. I think she was starting to slip into the Cook fog.

  • hypertwink

I’m a little peeved since from some accounts, the album was already in stores in the Philippines but when I went to the mall yesterday, it still wasn’t available. Nerts! The GMA video makes it a little better.

  • sma11ie

In other news, my husband surprised me tonight on our drive home from work, with two copies of The Record!

waffle you got one already? How?

  • Michelle

I had to leave for work before they got David on the show (I knew they would wait for the last half hour), so thanks for posting these MJ! Pretty funny that he was able to join in on the Colbert caroling, lol.

  • aly

David and his band really did a good job this morning!!
He really seems like a great guy as well. He’s out there
making music and trying to make the world a better place
for those who are fighting cancer. I really admire him for
that. Best of Luck to him!!!!!!!!

  • Davidx2

:clap_tb: I can’t wait to watch these when I get home tonight. Looks like Diane was really loving Cookie! :smile1_ee:

  • bluejeans

wow. that performance of Light On is the best yet. he sounded very comfortable. and it’s in the morning! maybe he’s one of those who sounds better in the morning… the band sounds good too. Neal bb, stand closer to David, thanks.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

Loved the performance. David and the band are getting better each time. David looked quite spiffy.

Neal bb, stand closer to David, thanks.

Hee! I think a lot of the ladies are taking quite a liking to him. :D

  • Keel

Stephen and David FTW! I remember that during the AI Tour, David was asked by a newspaper journalist about books he was reading at the moment and he mentioned reading Palahniuk latest book and a Stephen Colbert (can’t remember which) book. I wonder if he got Colbert to autograph his copy. I can just imagine him fanboying over Colbert (as I would in his (much bigger) shoes/boots).

  • DivaE

wow, the GMA sound guys really had the best mix of any of Cookie’s recent performances- that really sounded GREAT! And he seemed so confident, and his pitch was quite good today. (and they’re dressing him HAWTly! and he’s beautiful!)

I love Stephen Colbert- my whole family sits down to watch him every night. At first when Cookie went over to carol with them, I thought he was singing in the wrong key, but when they stopped singing, and he was singing the falala himself, he was singing the same key as the backup music- I think maybe Diane and Stephen couldnt hear it when they were singing… (but that was just a first impression- TRUST ME- I will watch this off my DVR many more times today!!!)

Heroes and Mr. Sensitive clips were also nice- as was the Hillary for Cook clip :)

Can’t wait til midnight or whenever to get my iTunes preorder- and plan to visit the Walmart that is next door to my work tomorrow to pick up a hard copy (for my mom, who’s cd player doesn’t read cdrs.

my dear hubby should be jealous of my flove for my dear Cookie :) YUMMY!

  • Dlynne

This appearance is pure gold. They just keep getting better and better. He looks like he’s having the time of his life – no pun intended! LOL

I’m thinking Ms. Sawyer is just a bit smitten with Mr. Cook as well as Senator Clinton.

  • sma11ie

At first when Cookie went over to carol with them, I thought he was singing in the wrong key, but when they stopped singing, and he was singing the falala himself, he was singing the same key as the backup music- I think maybe Diane and Stephen couldnt hear it when they were singingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Hahaha, that was just so funny. I’m chuckling just remembering. I will watch it again many times tonight. They must have all taken Colbert’s “not blend” note seriously.

  • canadiandcfan

LOVE it!! thanks for posting :)

  • AZIdolFan

he looks so happy when he is singing with colbert. and i totally noticed when diane reaches for david to be part of the hug. :)

  • smartcookie

It cracks me up to see all the fans singing along. With good old Light On that so few of us were enthusiastic about.

That really is the Easy on the Eyes Band, isn’t it? Just when I’m thinking, hmmm, the drummer is really cute, I look at Andy or the bass player, and they’re both adorable, too. Neal is different. He’s hot in a bad boy way.

Love DC’s outfit. White shirts with black ties are always good for me. And yeah, I think Diane Sawyer is totally smitten. Hee.

Can anyone tell what’s on his tie? A yellow dragon?

  • waffle

waffle you got one already? How?

Hi, sma11ie! The record was released on the 17th in the Philippines. As it is, we’re about 12 hours ahead of U.S. EST. So effectively, we get the record a day and a half ahead of you guys. LOL!!! (Also, this explains this very delayed response to your question. It was approaching midnight when I posted my above squeee, and went to bed just a few minutes thereafter.)

  • Chiqui

OMG! (Did I just do that ..? I rarely ever gush!)

And I thought that the recent Leno LO was the best rendition — this version is even better!

I agree David and band just keep improving their LO performance by leaps and bounds with every single appearance. Practice really makes perfect for this band. What a bunch of super talented guys!

MJ, thanks again so much for posting these videos. My schedule is such that I rarely have the time to watch these appearances as they happen. But I can always rely on you and your site to post their recorded versions.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Can anyone tell whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on his tie? A yellow dragon?

That’s what it looks like. Here are a couple of stills:

    1

    2

  • smartcookie

Thanks, GwendolynD!! It does look like a dragon from those pics. (And the pic with Stephen Colbert is hilarious, too, just for the look on DC’s face. I hope he gets to be a guest on the Colbert Report. Like Rick Spingfield coming on and singing “Jesse’s Girl” in the aisle. Or a sing-off. Or word-off. Colbert’s schtick has all kinds of Cookifying possibilities!)

  • Chiqui

    Gwendolyn – on his tie.
Sticking a magnifying glass on the computer screen, my husband says it’s a seahorse.
But I think it is a tiger that’s looking back against background of a white bush…(lol)

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

After looking at both pics, my best guess is a dragon but I could be wrong. lol

  • smartcookie

Now I think it’s a tiger with something white and fluffy behind it. Maybe the feline tie is a shout-out to the cougars. (I can’t believe I said that when I really hate anything to do with Cook and Cougars. Please forgive me.)

  • sunchick

By jove, I think I’ve cracked the tie mystery…

Crouching tiger, hidden dragon, y’all. Thank you, I’ll be here all week. :bye_tb:

Do you think Diane went into her dressing room and changed real quick this morning so that she matched Cook? Look, David, we totally match. We are so on the same wavelength. I hear you like blonds….Hee. Singing with Cookie and Colbert? Diane Saywer, I hate you, you lucky bitch.

I seriously flove this band, by the way. I don’t care if Cookie is the most successful Idol evah or anything. At this point I just really, reeeeally want these guys to make a second record as a band. So go out and buy some CDs tomorrow, kids.

  • cooktard76

    GMA was awesome!

And this is OT, but where is Chachi? Havent seen any posts from her in a while, did I miss something.

MJ, you rock! Thanks for getting clips up so I can enjoy the goodness when I get home from work!

  • Chiqui

You win, Sunchick — I got the tiger right but I should have known that my “white bush” was really a hidden dragon…

I must confess that my motivation for Cook to have a huge debut album sale figure is so that a second album is guaranteed.

And I want that second album to have songs in the likes of Kiss on the Neck, Bar-ba-sol, Declaration, and Breath Tonight ? (bonus song that I hear sounds like Kiss on the Ncek?).– and for slower songs – be like Lie.

  • sunchick

    I should have known that my à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“white bushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was really a hidden dragonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

That sounds like a punchline to a really dirty joke. A tiger, a dragon, and a naked kung fu master walk into a bar… :lol_tb:

Don’t mind me, I’m loopy and chok full o’ caffeine so that I can download me some D Cook at the stroke of midnight.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

Could I want him more? No probably not.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

Just got the notice from i-tunes in my inbox telling me the album is ready for download. :jittery_tb:

  • FolkFan

Hell, yeah, Chiqui. I could get behind that. In the meantime, I’m gleefully listening to record #1.

  • FolkFan

    deleted

  • DivaE

we figured it out- Colbert modulates up to a new key when he starts the new verse (while the recorded background does not)- so when Cookie is singing by himself at the end, he’s in the same key as the accompaniment.

Also, to the person who noted in another feed about Andy playing keys with only 9 fingers, its because he is holding his guitar pic with that pointer finger :)

  • http://myspace.com/yoroshiku34 yoroshiku34

I would have kicked myself for missing this while I was on vacation on Monday but I knew MJ would have it! :) Cook + Colbert indeed = OTP, but more importantly, did anyone else catch Whatevia’s little brother Whatevio at 2:31 on the Colbert clip? Jeez kid, you get to skip school and you can’t even crack a smile?
