Updated with new photo and video!

ETA: David did some co-writing with Savan Kotecha (Adam Lambert’s “If I Had You”) and Andrew Frampton (Natasha Bedingfield). He’s left England and just landed in Stockholm, Sweden. Wonder which pop wizard he’ll be collaborating with there?

See that little spec in a white cap sprinting across the legendary Abbey Road in London? That’s David Cook, currently in the UK to do some songwriting with partners, yet unknown.

“If anyone’s interested, go to abbey road’s website, and check out the webcam. Let me know if you see me,”  tweeted David.  A fan did, and screen-capped the above photo

It’s David’s first trip to the UK, and he is pretty damn excited, despite the airlines busting one of his guitars.

He arrived yesterday. “Just landed in London!,” David tweeted excitedly, ” What should I do while I’m here?”

But then, sadness, “…aaaaand a busted guitar, courtesy of the airline. Flowers would have been a better welcome to England gift, but beggars can’t be choosers.”

The eulogy, “R.I.P. – tobacco-burst Gibson 335 from the Idol tour. Your were the voice of your generation.”

Sniff.

Lots of fun stuff for David on this trip, including spotting Brandon Boyd from Incubus at breakfast, “Kept my composure and left him alone, but instead fanned out into my scrambled eggs…”

More fun from David’s trip, including photos from a sightseeing excursion can be found at his always amusing twitter feed.

I hope David spills more about his UK collaborators…

LOL He sounds like a kid in Disneyland. So cute.

  • amiroamor

The hell? I was there last weekend! Gah!

  • movin2thabeet

Sounds like Dave got a sweet replacement for his guitar. He tweeted this:

“Will Twitpic later, but got a gorgeous replacement for the dearly departed 335″

I love that he’s sharing his adventures in London with us via the tweeter. Nice way to connect with fans.

love following David on twitter. i felt like a dork waiting for him to appear on the webcam but i’m glad i did…..told my husband what i was doing and of course he chuckled and rolled his eyes.

here’s a pic of some fans that spotted David at Abbey Road.

Spec of Cookie! ROFL! Love the picture. :)

  • LaRue

Love that picture. Cook is like a kid in a candy store! Good for him.

  • lifeisgood

    He is so cute!

  • maturin

It’s like “where’s waldo?’ only with rock. Cook in front of a humorously named shop! Cook by Big Ben!

Hee. Glad he let us know he got a new guitar. His sad face twitter about the airline breaking his was d’awwww!

David’s tweets have always been fairly amusing, but he was really in rare form with this London trip. He is such an adorable tourist and his geeky excitement is totally coming through on twitter. He’s such a big kid. I’m glad this trip is so fun for him! But I’m with MJ. I’m itching for some info on his collaboraters, too.

here’s a pic of some fans that spotted David at Abbey Road.

Um… cough, stalkers! J/k, a little. David obviously doesn’t mind, since he tweeted the girl back…

  • http://bridgetcarle.wordpress.com vorona

I thought he was awfully bold to tweet his location! Imagine him doing that here. :) Glad he’s having fun.

  • sunchick

Something about that screenshot is awfully reminiscent of those old blurry photos of “Bigfoot” sightings. I think it’s the way he’s holding his arms or something. Too adorable in his enthusiasm.

  • standtotheright

Um… cough, stalkers! J/k, a little. David obviously doesn’t mind, since he tweeted the girl back…

She’s that princess who paid out the wazoo to see him at Sunfest awhile back. So not a stranger, I guess.

But I like how, before he went on his “Where’s Waldo” adventure, he made a point to note that he was absolutely NOT, no-way, no-how, bugging Brandon Boyd in the restaurant. Boundaries, fans! Boundaries!

  • Mtlfan

aww great location for a pic!! :) i loved when Kris did the same when in London last fall

Right. Kind of leading by example, or some kind of celebrity Golden Rule. I love that he “fanned out” in his eggs, though.

And, yes, sunchick — totally Bigfoot sighting! :)

  • SashaB

His excitement is infectious. Glad he’s doing some sight-seeing.

Reports on twitter is that that particular fan is a Princess, who met DC at SunFest. Not sure what principality though.

eta: DC did tweet pple that he’d be heading to Abbey Road. So yeah, not surprised fans would go, if they were in the environs. *shrug* Especially a princess. Hee.

    Too slow.

Also, how adorkable was it to fanboy over his eggs? Heh.

  • sma11ie

She’s that princess who paid out the wazoo to see him at Sunfest awhile back. So not a stranger, I guess.

Oh I remember the princess! That’s dedication though, or she was just really lucky and was close enough to his location when he tweeted that she and her friends could jet over there and find him! I’m kind of amazed.

  • suenigma

I am disturbed by myself, quite frankly, but I recognize the girl in that photo. She is the Princess from Borneo/Dubai(?) who flew in to meet David and gave him a bracelet in Florida. I believe she is a student in London. The’ve tweeted each other before.

ETA: Oops. Standtotheright beat me to it. Now I don’t feel quite so alone in my Internet stalkery. Thanks STTR!

  • tierbee

Hee, he’s so cute. I am enjoying his adventures in London. So glad he caved in and became a Twitter addict ;)

  • SybilTrelawney

Someone put together a series of screencaps from the webcam to show the entire “progression” of his trip across Abbey Road.

Heh, to be fair, I only thought “she looks vaguely familiar” when I saw her Twitter avi, so I went out to some of the fanlists to see if someone else recognized her. Lo and behold.

I am google-ready enough to have found that article about her Sunfest trip. She’s from Brunei.

  • wellhesback

Thanks to David Cook for letting his fans share a little in the excitement of his first trip to Europe! and thanks to you, MJ, for this silly thread for Cook fans to play around in!!

  • oceana

Thanks MJ, this is a fun thread. :)

  • suenigma

I am google-ready enough to have found that article about her Sunfest trip. She’s from Brunei.

Yes of course, Brunei! Although if you combine Dubai and Borneo…

  • Balance

I’m glad he’s been in a twittery mood while away ’cause he is just too damn adorable for words when he’s excited.

Thanks SybilT for the screencap progression! Too funny.

eta: Ditto what Sunchick said about the narration MJ. I read David’s tweets this morning more or less in real time, but your compilation of events totally cracked me up all over again. :)

  • sunchick

Okay, I *knew* that chick in the fanpic looked familiar, but then I said to myself…naaaah, that’s nutty. It’s London, dude. I was, however, third row at Sunfest when he introduced the random Princess and got a decent look at her. So it makes sense now, and I’m only slighty nutty then. Good to know.

MJ, forgot to comment that your narration was outstanding. ;) “But then, sadness…”

  • Trina

So that’s why he tweted her back, hey if youre gonna have a stalker it might as well be a princess LMAO.

I wonder if he’s going anywhere besides London? Just curious because when he tweeted about packing he said he was leaving for Europe, not exactly London..then that A&R guy tweeted something yesterday about the ’2nd flight’ (which after some fans questioned him he said he meant his returning home flight), weird wording then tho) hmm I dunno. I hope whatever he’s doing or going he keeps us posted. Really curious about who he’s working with since I’m assuming its got to be new people? Who did Kris write with in the UK? Then there was something on Twitter about a friend of Carolina Liar possibly working with him…?

  • seriously

Sma11ie. I don’t know if you’re still in the headlines so I’ll post this here.

Cook had also reportedly collapsed earlier in the competition.

I’ve heard this rumor before, but I thought it was never confirmed? What does it mean when the LA Times says “reportedly”? I’ve always wondered when it “reportedly” happened… anyone know?

    Here’s an article for it.
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,344851,00.html

According to TMZ, an “Idol” source said Cook, a top contender on the singing competition, has been under a lot of pressure over his brother’s battle with cancer; in an earlier show, he collapsed before performing and said he could not continue, but wound up being able to go through with the program.

  • spritely

Is it possible to be cuter than he is when he’s excited about something? If he ever has kids the cute meter is going to explode. “Look! It’s my kid!”

bigfoot, lol! Sunchick, it’s true! Also, he really does have big feet. As we know. :D

  • BootStar

Something about that screenshot is awfully reminiscent of those old blurry photos of “Bigfoot” sightings. I think it’s the way he’s holding his arms or something.

Maybe it’s just his ginormous FEET. Next thing you know people will be tracking his bootprints.

Does anybody know if he got to actually go into the studio to record anything? My fantasy has always been that he’d get to do one of those “Live from Abbey Road” gigs. And now that the studio has received historic status from the UK government, I’m still holding out hope. Those bastards EMI announced last month were they trying to sell the place to developers!

  • sma11ie

Thanks for the response, seriously. TMZ… I guess that means that’s as much “confirmation” as I’ll ever get.

SybilTrelawney, thanks for the screencap of progression– I missed it in the real time, but this is nearly as good :) .

I wonder if he’s going anywhere besides London? Just curious because when he tweeted about packing he said he was leaving for Europe, not exactly London..then that A&R guy tweeted something yesterday about the ‘2nd flight’ (which after some fans questioned him he said he meant his returning home flight), weird wording then tho)

That exchange with the A&R guy sounds so sketchy that I’m thinking he’s just been told to play along with DC’s penchant for “surprises” and keeping certain things “close to the vest”. I’m fairly convinced there was a reason he said the trip was to “Europe” before he got to London.

  • sunchick

LMAO. You guys owe me a new keyboard.

  • Keel

Aww, just looked at his twitterfeed. I think he took that picture of Big Ben for his dad.

http://twitpic.com/16dibr – here you go, pops. A picture of that “big-ass clock” for you.

Just saw the progression of his Abbey Road tweets too. Hilarious how afterwards he seemed embarrassed by his own squeeing dorkiness.

In hindsight… Maybe a bit awkward… Lol oh well. Moving on…

Also, isn’t the Princess of Brunei the (or one of the) daughter(s) of the Sultan of Brunei — i.e., world’s richest dude. Honestly, if I was a carefree student in London and found out my fave rockstar (who I met in person once) was tweeting his location in London, I would so totally stalk, erm, I mean go to where he said he’d be just to gawk further. I got no shame! Of course, if I was the Princess of Brunei, I would so totally book him and his awesome band for a private concert with 20 of my closest friends at my penthouse apartment. Just sayin’

  • BootStar

    I can’t breathe I’m laughing so hard!

  • hoosiermama

Who did Kris write with in the UK?

Eg White. From London, Kris tweeted a hint about his collaborator: that he was writing with a breakfast food and had his fans guess who it was (OJ Simpson was a guess before someone got it correct!).

  • Keel

Then there was something on Twitter about a friend of Carolina Liar possibly working with him…?

The lead singer for Carolina Liar was discovered by Max Martin when he was interning as a songwriter for, I think, Diane Warren or something. Anyway, a Cook fan who’s also a huge Carolina Liar fan tweeted Chad Wolf (CL lead singer) and asked him if he was co-writing with Cook, and Chad answered that he wasn’t but that “a friend” may be doing so. Thus, the Max Martin speculation.

Hee. How’s that for stalkery level detail of every single facet of Cook’s life?

Hey, I think that’s my screen cap! Here’s another one I tweeted him, coming back across the other way:

    http://twitpic.com/16da04

I was sitting at work at 6:30AMish when his tweet came in. The Abbey Road webcam is my best friend’s home page – so I knew exactly where to go. We did the same thing when we visited last year, and someone screencapped it for us, so I figured I’d return the favor.

  • progression

Is there anything cuter than David Cook when he’s all *stoked* about something? I mean really?

Twitter is a mixed blessing for celebrities for sure, but it’s so perfect for something like this. Love getting these little messages from the trip. *Hugs twitter*

  • wellhesback

No, there’s nothing cuter than David Cook.

That Abbey Road vlog is fantastic. That has now surpassed “Bitch & Catch” as my favorite vlog in the history of David Cook.

I mean how cute is this screencap? http://twitpic.com/16gzbh

  • sunchick

Ugg, how can one person be that adorable and talented? Ridiculous.

  • sma11ie

OMG I usually make snarky comments about his hair, etc., but I don’t usually do this: he looks HAWT! Sorry, utterly superficial post coming, but I gotta do it.

The reason I’m kinda going nuts is, it’s not usually about looks for me with DC– I like him overall for a large combination of things, like his sense of humor, his charm, his personality, his talent, his music, his sense of goodness, his closeness to his family etc. etc. All those things together are what makes him special and what draws me to him. But objectively, while I think he can often be very cute and completely charming and adorable, I usually don’t find him to be THAT hot… until now!

I mean, even the times in the past when I thought he looked really good, like whenever they got him all camera ready for the LO and CBTM music videos, or near the end of his Idol run… I never thought, hot. But something about the way he looked in that vlog… ugh, irresistible. Maybe because he looks like any regular guy to me, ONLY WAY HOTTER. I mean, it was like, on Idol, they made him look too pretty, And then when he was on his own much of last year’s tour, he lost all that TV-ready sheen, and largely reverted to looking like a “regular guy”… and let’s face it, at times, it was too “regular”…

But something about his look here… it’s like he finally found the perfect balance. The for-TV pretty is gone, but he looks better than ever. He’s that regular guy that I would pass by on the street, or see in a store or something and be like, OMGZ so hot, gonna stare. Haha. Okay, I’m thoroughly embarrassed =P. I just had to get that out. No one IRL understand haha.

  • cookmerized

damn he’s adorable. i can’t believe i’m getting excited watching someone cross the freakin’ street! the things i do for cookie. i’d venture to say that i’d even tune in to watch him watch paint dry. sigh

  • MollyAnnMay

zomg that vlog is priceless. The “I am up to no god” *look* before sauntering down the road to do something entirely dorky yet sweet! I love the leap of joy.

I also love how, like the good Yank he is, he’s totally looking the wrong way before crossing the road. He’s lucky a car wasn’t coming around that curve to his right or he might have ended up with a slight crack, like his poor guitar (perish the thought).

Speaking of his poor guitar, I am now all impatient to see the replacement. David has very, very good taste in guitars.

ETA: LOL sma11ie, those IRL may not understand, but trust me, the imaginary people in your computer do. *g* Have you seen this recent picture? (From the other night.) He really has somehow hit a total sweet spot of HOT lately.

  • MollyAnnMay

Has anybody noticed he’s kind of cute?

LOL. He needs to sing something quick, so we (okay, I) can move out of the shallow end.

Although, on that topic, I was amazed to wake up this morning with the chorus to “You and I” running through my head. And that was just from watching a couple vids last night — I haven’t even got it on my iPod yet. He may have hit pay dirt with that one…

Which of Kris’s songs did Eg White collaborate on, does anyone know?

I love that he keeps us posted. :)

  • seriously

Oh, and I’m writing with @savan_kotecha and @amf19, so check em out when and if you wanna… — 2 hours 30 min ago

Savan Koetcha has worked with Enrique Iglesias, Carrie Underwood, Britney Spears, Leona Lewis and Celine Dion. He wrote “Inside Your Heaven” (Carrie) and “If U Seek Amy” (Britney) and more.

  • sunchick

Inside Your HooHah (!), as in the single worst coronation song in AI history? Plus shitty Westlife snoozers, and a bunch of Leono Lewis crap? My eyes, my eyes! Well, at least Dave is getting an adorkable tweet worthy trip out of the deal, cuz I’m gonna hope like hell he’s just humoring 19 and none of these Koetcha songs make the record. David Cook, Sam Hollander, Claude Kelly, Matt Squire, Neil Tiemann, Raine Maida, ohmmmm…..

  • wellhesback

Oh, Cookie, why do you do this. Just when your fans are all super happy happy – joy joy cause of pics, tweets, and video – you tell us ou’re writing w/pop guys who produce crap. Then everybody gets all angsty and panicky and upset and stuff. I think you did just so you can sit back and laugh at us, Dave.

  • HappyDaisy

Savan Kotecha wrote “If U Seek Amy,” right? One of the worst songs ever. Say it isn’t so. Poor David, surely he would not choose to work with this guy voluntarily. U-G-H.

  • tierbee

Ew, “If U Seek Amy” makes me want to stick sharp objects in my ears.

Must have faith in Dave, must have faith in Dave.

  • Balance

I will not angst, I will not angst, I will not angst…

I’m going to pretend that I never read the “If U Seek Amy” nonsense and concentrate instead on the other writer, Andrew Frampton. It looks like he’s worked a lot with The Script. The Script is good. We like The Script, right? Right?? Hold me…

  • Incipit

Those two are funny as all hell on Twitter today, David tossed them to the fandom. Doubt they were ever on his ‘wish list’ – but it’s possible they can step up their game from strictly pop hits. Were any of those other tracks collaborations?

Anyway, just because something is written doesn’t mean it will be used, ya know. They want 40 songs to chose from, already have 30 “in the bank”. We only know about a dozen or so of the co-writers by name, maybe 16 of the possible songs, not even by name. What’s the point in pre-emptive angsting about WTF!Cook? Nevermind – I know, that’s what this fandom seems to do. Worry now, save time later. ;)

  • HappyDaisy

The Amy song apparently had three other co-writers so it’s not solely Savan K.’s fault. But for someone to associate their good name with that thing….

It’s not irrational to wonder about what type of album is going to be produced at this point given the limited info we do have, circumstances of the last album (for instance, they never released one of the strongest songs: Lie), and the high stakes for this album. If he was writing with someone extraordinary this week, people might feel differently.

  • offside

Oh why did I have to come home to news like this? I just don’t get it with all the pop writers-I just don’t get it.
I don’t have to like all the songs on DCTR2, but I really hope I like at least some of them.
There’s so many interesting writers out there…
I guess no sense in angsting over a record that hasn’t even been recorded yet, though.

  • Trina

Out of all the collaborator names we’ve heard of this Savan Kotecha is truthfully the first one that is making me cringe. RCA made him go all the way out to London to work with HIM? Good grief. Now I’m even more curious if he has any other work lined up while he’s there because I hate to think this is the best he can do. I get it, they want to shoot for Top 40. But there arent better writers?

  • Curlin

I just noticed that Savan also wrote (or co-wrote?) If I Had You for Adam Lambert, which I see made his album. Don’t know if it’s any good since I don’t own his album and haven’t heard the song.

I’m not worried since they will have a bunch of extra songs. WOHWWS didn’t make DCTR and I really like that song! You can only fit so many so I have faith that the sucky ones (like This Year didn’t) hopefully won’t make the record.

  • wellhesback

Well, I say, at least Cookie got a visit to Europe out of it, mostly off RCA’s dime, I bet.
Hmm – they like him enough to send him on a nice trip, but then dislike him enough set him up with hack writer that writes stuff that’s nothng like Cookie. I’m confused. and verging on angsting. I’m on the ledge.

  • Joyed

I think it is funny everyone is picturing the potentially horrific song that could have been created today – makes me really want to hear it! (Sidenote: I think it would be so awesome to really know what these nightmare collaborations that everyone worries about sound like in everyone’s head – if you guys have any nightmare lyrics you’ve dreamed up for these collaborators, jot them down!)

My guess is that he’ll hit up several different songwriters on this one trip – writing with the 19 stable in England (might as well while he’s there), then maybe Sweden for Max Martin? We’ll see :)

To cheer some of you up (or maybe this will make you despair more!) here is a David cameo on a Canadian show “My Date with…Miley Cyrus.” I never saw this posted before http://www.muchmusic.com/tv/mydatewith/video.aspx?eid=34730
(He’s in the first minute of video one and around 4:50 in video 2)

  • offside

All I can say is,I sure hope he doesn’t have sacrifice his clever
lyric writing to comply with the pop sound they are striving for(you know, that “be more straightforward in your writing” advise)
If so, I may have fighting words with the mighty RCA!

  • Trina

I don’t think RCA set him up with these two because they dislike him, nor do I think they simply sent him to Europe because they like him. I’m sure they have their reasoning and want to try and out a variety of writers to see what comes out of the sessions. God knows I very rarely agree with a lot of choices they make so I don’t expect to start now. For the most part I’ve been fine with the people they’ve hooked him up with. Like I said this is the first name that gives me pause, but I seriously doubt RCA thinks their hacks. Isn’t the Adam song Savan cowrote supposedly his next single?

joyed — nice find, thanks for posting :)

I just noticed that Savan also wrote (or co-wrote?) If I Had You for Adam Lambert, which I see made his album.

Oh GOD. Are you serious? Run Cook. Run away as fast as your giant boots will carry you and go find some cool British musicians in a dive pub and write an awesome drinking song or something. (Seriously, for those of you that tweet, somebody has to warn him to get the hell out of there.) That is by far the worst thing on Adam’s album. It sounds like it was produced using one of those ghetto Casio drum machines from like the late 80s, and the lyrics are heinously juvenile. Let me see if I remember…puttin on leather and guyliner, but it don’t matter cuz love is all you need…or something like that. What the hell does that even mean? My jaw dropped when I read that they were considering it for the next single when they have decent songs like Fever and Soaked on deck, but that’s a topic for another thread.

All I can say is,I sure hope he doesn’t have sacrifice his clever
lyric writing to comply with the pop sound they are striving for

You and I sounds very Cookian, lyrically. And obviously so does Make Believe. Thank gawd. I still have faith that he’ll fight to get at least one band cowrite on the album (fingers crossed for With Me Empty.) And I’m stoked about the Sam Hollander collabs, because Sam Hollander has awesome musical friends. So I’m gonna choose to ignore this news. Ohm.

I have taken a plegde – I refuse to angst about DCTR2….I refuse to angst about DCTR2…I refuse to angst about DCTR2.

That said – if there are any Westlife, Shane Ward or ‘If I Had You’ soundalikes (ITA – it’s not my favourite FYE song either!) on DCTR2 (or any CBTM2′s) I will not be a happy Cook fan!

If anyone is still here, do you know if David wrote with Pete Wentz when he was in New York, or was that just a social session?
If he did, I know I could count on at least one song I’ll like!
I hope WOHWWS and Souvenir somehow make it on there…

  • wellhesback

no don’t think he wrote w/Wentz.

Today (Friday the 5th) DC tweets he’s traveling to another location in Europe. Safe travels, Dave. Hope springs eternal regarding the songwriting for DCTR2!

Sunchick, I should have taken your word for it. Just listened to some of If I Had You and couldn’t stomach it. There is no way Cook would put out crap like that! I’m not worried.

  • sunchick

Ah, so the happy traveler escaped the questionable writing session unscathed after all. No worries.

(In the interest of clarification: I was not actually advocating tweeting Dave to run away up yonder thar, cuz that would be ridic. Twas was a joke. Sometimes, though, you just never know with people.)

Joyed, Thanks for the video! :)

I’m going to pretend that I never read the “If U Seek Amy” nonsense and concentrate instead on the other writer, Andrew Frampton. It looks like he’s worked a lot with The Script. The Script is good. We like The Script, right? Right?? Hold me…

Just ask Kris about Andrew since he co-wrote & produced two songs off his album, LLWD & WAOMF. Everybody likes the Script.

I don’t have any problems with any of these writing sessions. I believe that David brings his song ideas to these writers and they then sit down and write the finished song. I looked them both up and they have both cowritten songs I like. “Quitter” a Carrie Underwood song is one of the them and I really like some of the Script songs. I think it is all good.

As with most WTF!Cook revelations, my initial reservations(in this case horror) have been replaced with excited anticipation. Can’t wait to hear how all these diverse co-writes mesh with Cooks awesome wordy lyrical style.

Eta: I love how Cook fans can come up with 100+ comments on a post about him walking across a road.:)

Bwah, I love the new pic – jeez, the feet on that guy. I love him frolicking, lol.

Now we’ll see what he tweets from Sweden!

Kinda begs a joke. “Why did the Cookie cross the road?”

Someone else will have to write the punchline. I haven’t had my coffee yet.

Heh heh, trufax. Just a temporary glitch in the Matrix.

In Sweden, writing for a week? Maybe the Max Martin connection that was mentioned in the Slezak interview. Guess the guitars arrived intact, this time.

David has had a Twitter conversation with Chad Wolf, of Carolina Liar -(Most of his band members are from Sweden) who wants to connect, and introduce David to his friends there. And he’s looking for Tourist Tips from “Swedenites”. ;) Could be an amusing week, over and above the writing work.

And, we’re still hoping for that twitpic of the replacement for the 335 Gibson.
