David Cook covered The Counting Crows “Long December” at Summerfest in Tampa, FL Saturday night. The Season 7 American Idol winner played an all acoustic set, reworking some of his best loved songs such as “Mr. Sensitive,” “Heroes” and his single, “The Last Song I’ll Ever Write For You.”

The lyrics–about leaving LA–are apt. David is selling his Los Angeles digs and now calls Nashville his home. He’s writing songs with friends and preparing for his next album after parting ways with RCA last year.

Great post windmills. I love this cover. It is beautiful.

Amy, maybe he is rethinking his priorities.  While he may have wanted it “all” at one point, maybe he is comfortable with this until he figures out what the “next step” in his career is.  While I did go and would consider myself a fan for life, there were many people in attendance that had not seen him before — many, many dudes there.  I think that’s a win for him.  If it put “some coin in his pocket” all the better to explore his options with.

I think TMAIA and TMO were some of the last ones written for this CD along with GTTG if I remember my timelines correctly. Also, didn’t Dave say (or RCA Ed) that they only recorded 14 tracks for the CD and when Sunlight didn’t meet Dave’s standards they did a very late substitution of LMFFY and had to use the demo version?

I think that TMO and TMAIA were both written very late in the process, but GTTG was written earlier, but recorded later when the band had been released.

I also think that it’s possible that David liked LMFFY better  and wanted it on the album, because he did it so much in the tour.

Fade Into Me might have been more well liked, and also, it was more similar to TOML, so maybe that’s why it was released.  Though I wish they would have released Paper Heart or Circadian.

Life on the Moon is one of the better constructed songs on DCTR (and one of my favorites).  It has a totally different vibe when done acoustically.  Check it out from Summerfest Tampa.
