Incipit, I tried to reply in the headline thread, but my comment got eaten.   Only things to really add is that Haley played highschool softball (outfield).

“Only things to really add is that Haley played highschool softball (outfield).”

That’s cool, Just Me!, Disqus can get almighty cranky, from time to time. Just after I asked, the relevant tweet showed up anyway and that was just the first, the PR from MLB has started. I had known about David’s involvement for a while, but it was kinda expected – he worked at Kauffman Stadium for six years, and was a left handed pitcher who also played a little first base in high school in KC – and some Legion Ball (with the Albert Pujols hit), and two softball teams in LA – the rest are new to me.

“It will be a feel-good homecoming for Cook…  He worked for the Royals in the
Stadium Club before his music career took off, and once was a promising
    pitcher.

“It was an amazing organization just from top to bottom,” Cook said of
the Royals. “I got to meet some amazing people, including players and
coaches. I have this great relationship with Mike Sweeney from when I
worked there, so it’s cool. I love that organization.

“Music’s been in my blood for a long time, but I grew up playing sports.
    I was a baseball kid…”

He talks about that in Part 1 of an MLB interview, and touches briefly on the shoulder injury that closed out the nascent pitching career at 2:27.

Interesting about Haley – I hope more is posted on that – also thought I had seen some posts about her and a recent softball game. Bet she’ll enjoy meeting USA Softball’s Gold Medalist Jennie Finch!

They got a lot of great name celebs to come out for this – quite a few I recognize.
Sounds like a fun time will be had by all concerned.

What a cool opportunity for Haley, and David! I’ll definitely be watching this game live.

Love how there are only two women playing in the softball game alongside an army of celebrity and ex pro baseball playing men. Not fair. lol I’m sure that Haley and a pro Olympic softball player will be able to hold their own with the men though. ;)

I’ve been curious about Haley’s softball playing abilities since I found out that she played it in high school. Glad fans will finally get to see her play. I always wondered how skilled she was in that area.

Nice opportunity for Haley and David C. Would be cool if Scotty and Kris got to do this as well, since they both played HS baseball. Wonder how you get invited to do this?

girlygirltoo, It looks like they try for a bit of local flavor – though IDK the ‘local’ connection all these folks have, in the list from the Kansas City Star, some are mentioned:

“This year’s lineup contains local flavor in Kansas basketball coach Bill
Self, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, George Brett and two
hometown guys who made it big — Eric Stonestreet from “Modern Family”
and “American Idol” winner David Cook.”

John Hamm (Don Draper) is from the area, and attended the University of Missouri, but I have no idea what Chord Overstreet’s (Yes, I looked up the name) connection is…or any of the rest of the teams, for that matter. Looks like it will be a lot of fun, though.

I still don’t know about the ‘local flavor’ connection in every case, but MLB is doing nice PR for the AllStar Legends and Celebrities soft ball game -  and it ‘is’ cool to see David’s name being used in the leads as a draw… also fun to work out the six degrees of separation, or less, between him and some of the other celebrities mentioned. Just for fun, I checked out the ones I recognized last night:

The kid from Glee, Chord Overstreet, has a brother in Hot Chelle Rae -a band who once opened for David on the Declaration Tour. The guy from Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Paul Dimeo – David was on that show in 2010, which also covers former Saturday Night Live cast member Horatio Sanz…since David and the Anthemic were also on that one in 2008.

The Former baseball greats Rickey Henderson, Ozzie Smith, Dave Winfield,
Mike Piazza, Bo Jackson, Ernie Banks and Mike Sweeney, who will also play – David said he has “this great relationship with Mike Sweeney from when I worked there (Kauffman Stadium) , so it’s cool.” and may have met any of the others when he and the Anthemic played in St Louis for the MLB Home Run Derby in July of 2009 – won by Albert Pujols – who David once pitched to in Legion Ball.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel…you ‘know’ David has been to a few Chiefs games, and not just to sing the National Anthem, as on Sept 11, 2011 – he’s a die-hard fan.

Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, besides being mentioned w/David in the MLB Press Release as local guys who made it big – also has an uncollected bet with David, hinging on (I think) a Mizzou/KU rivalry that went down on Twitter in Oct ’11 – -

    >> ?@ericstonestreet 7 Oct
ok @thedavidcook. if k state wins i get to play drums for one song at ur concert. if mizzou wins i play drums for 3 songs.

Love to see that collected on. *snerk*

Haley has the Idol connection, of course, plus, she played softball in High School – and country artist David Nail…a few more degrees, but still a music connection. John Hamm from Mad Men graduated from Missouri University, while David graduated from the University of Central Missouri. As far as I know – there are no uncollected bets there…*wink*

But there are a lot of circles within circles – and it sounds like everyone will have a great time!
