It’s so good to finally hear new music from David Cook. I wish I was there. Here’s a pic taken at soundcheck.

  • Garnetstar

Dude. Cook. This is defenitly a move in the right direction musically speaking. The drums sound very modern (if ya know what I mean) and the guitars have been scaled back and the vocals sound great. Very ear wormy.

  • wjmtv

    Somebody’s looking mighty thin.

And I’m thinking the weather may not be the only hot thing at ol’ Busch Gardens today…..

  • wordnerdarchie

    Second new song:

  • competitivebynature

Wow! I actually really love this song after only one listen! “You and I” and “Make Believe” had to grow on me, but I love this! I love the lyrics and the music. Much more rocking than I would have thought given the title only. I can’t wait for more! On a shallow note, David is looking really good, but very thin.

  • wordnerdarchie

Wow, that second song is really good, too. 2 for 2 Mr. Cook.

  • pattieann

Thanks for putting up the vid of the new song!

  • ladymadonna

Very exciting to hear where the band is at musically after half a year writing, recording, and settling into their new lives. I usually only listen to cellcasts when filling-in for Lisa at DCO, but I’m actually going to watch the Ustream tonight since it’s such an early show (starts 6pm Eastern, no openers, should be done before dinner). I didn’t realize how much I’d been missing hearing Cook sing live. Damn.

Here’s a list of folks twittering from the show – lots of discussion of the new songs, etc:

    http://twitter.com/#/list/dctashows/buschgardens-aug7-8

  • SybilTrelawney

Can’t hear enough of that second song (vid keeps freezing on me) but I LOVE Paper Heart! That’s got hit written all over it.

  • cookcricket

    Nice!!!

  • Garnetstar

Yeah second song is good too. I agree, usually I have to hear his songs a few times to get a feel for them but Paper Heart is instantly singable. The other song is catchy too. Couldn’t make out all the words but I am loving the arrangement of instruments. Usually it’s all GUITARS on 11!!! and oh yeah David sings too. Now these 2 songs seem balanced.

  • progression

    Thanks for the thread MJ!
Really excited to hear what Dave and the band have been working on, and this sounds pretty promising so far. Sounds very much like a progression from where they were musically toward the end of the tour. Apparently there is some piano in the third song they soundchecked *thud*. Can’t wait for the videos. Hope everyone who is there has a great time!

  • hazuki

where is the live stream for tonight show?

  • offside

Good Gracious, I can’t wait another hour-and-a-half until the real show! Thanks for this thread, MJ.

  • consumedbywords

I usually have trouble getting into new songs when all I have to go on is a live vid, but “Paper Heart” really got my attention on the first listen. I’m crossing my fingers for some excellent material on DCTR2.

  • progression

hazuki, I think there are a couple. Here is one:

  • Garnetstar

Some Tweets are suggesting the band “The Anthemic” are being billed at BG but I haven’s seen a picture. Or where anyone saw it. If they are billed. That makes me excited. But annoying as well, because spell check doesn’t recognize Anthemic as a word, cause it aint.

  • wordnerdarchie

Let the concert begin. Tierbee has arrived. Yay!

  • _nyanyanie

omg cook.. glad to hear that..

btw, i love his song titles.. i dont know why…

  • Truthiness

I can’t wait to see/hear some of the YouTubes of the new songs. And the older ones as well.

Yay new concert! I’m excited for his fans and can’t wait to read about Tierbee’s experience, should she decide to share here, of course.

  • progression

spell check doesn’t recognize Anthemic as a word, cause it aint.

Not a big lover of the band name either (mostly because nobody seems to be able to pronouce it), but very cool if the guys are getting some recognition. BTW, Websters apparently disagrees with you, lol.
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anthemic

  • Garnetstar

Progression, well I have heard the word Anthemic before and never questioned it’s validity as a real word. But spell check on my PC goes all red and angry on it. So….ehh.

I have become used to it although I thought the band forgot they had named themselves cause they never mention it. Like they are ashamed or something.

I still haven’t heard a response from anyone that they really are billed. Hope to hear word after the concert.

Great new material…Cook is looking goooood!!!

  • Garnetstar

New song was awesome. Loved it. I also really loved the reworking of some of the old songs.

But I am hearing some rumblings. 11 songs only. No time limit. And David is definitely in shape. What’s up?

This brings up an interesting question. I wonder what a concert goer/fan is entitled to? If this was someone’s first concert I am sure they would be happy. But for hard core fans this was, except for the one new song, basically a lot of what was seen and heard last year.

Should David and the band tailor their shows with hard core fans in mind? Should they realize that they have many repeat concert goers attending multiple shows and build in many more songs? David is the only artist that I have tracked across multiple concerts so I don’t know if what he is doing is any different than other artists. Usually it’s one concert for me and then I don’t see an artist for another year. They have new songs and new covers by then.

    So yeah. A question.

ETA: Many fans assumed that David would increase his set length when he was in better shape and also when he had the time to practice new material. That is were some of the disappointment is coming from I assume.

  • wellhesback

Garnetstar – we don’t know how long a concert the venue wanted. so I’m not gonna complain about length. and David was apparently very chatty, which is all to the good. It did run 75 minutes.
He’s just not gonna please everybody – he can’t assume that everyone in the audience has been to lots of his shows, or seen everything on youtube. They’ve got to try to find a balance, which will be easier once the new album is out, and they have more material to mix up.
I just hate that this group of fans always finds something to instantly complain about. I’ve seen the guys live 3 times but I still would have been thrilled to see this show live. Others don’t agree, and they’re entitled to their opinion, as I am mine.

  • x57x

How exciting that David is coming out with new music. I can’t wait.

  • karenc

Someone at the show said that the concerts at BG are only 45 minutes, and that his was one of the longest that they had there

  • karenc

Soo happy to have another show. And it really shows David is still very popular.

  • progression

Interesting question Garnetstar. I was at Pechanga, where they played the exact same setlist twice, so I get the frustration. But they are basically still working off one record until DCTR2 is released so I wasn’t expecting them to roll out a bunch of new songs at this show. That would take away too much from the *reveal* on the album. Another new song tomorrow would be a nice treat though. *crosses fingers*

As far as the length of the show goes, Neal has said they used to regularly play 90 minute sets before Dave was on AI and they are playing shorter ones because they’ve been told to play shorter ones. Other rock acts I’ve seen play about 90 minutes as well. No idea why the sets are being kept short. I’d assumed during the tour it was to protect Dave’s voice, but that wouldn’t be the case tonight. I’m sure there is a reason, but I have no idea what it is.

  • MollyAnnMay

Hmm, I like Saturday afternoon concerts. What an excellent excuse not to do laundry. Are Ustreams always that good (well till they die)? I’ve not seen one before and this one had terrific visuals/sound, considering. Thanks for the link MJ.

    ————————–

And now, a musical interlude: “Some song about a Paper Heart is stuck in my head, stuck in my head.”

    Thanks for the earworm Dave.

    ————————-

Yes, it was a short set. But choice.

  • Incipit

This is a good enough reason for me – Today’s Williamsburg, Virginia weather report: current observations, … Hot and humid. Heat index near 105F. High 96F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph. …this at show time, BTW.

I know that area of the country very well, and I am rather surprised not to have heard of people getting sick who were sitting in the sun – although I did see a lot of umbrellas and hopefully, plenty of water in the audience while they waited. Enough of them were natives, or knew to respect that kind of heat.

By 9PM tonight, it’s supposed to be down to 80 degrees. But tomorrow is in line for more of the same.

Bless their hearts, hope everybody stays hydrated.

  • Garnetstar

karenC the person running the BushGarden’s Twitter said typically 90 min. or longer.

I agree wellhesback. Some fans will never be satisfied. But I wonder what other fans thought. I know it was an oft discussed topic during the Declaration Tour. David does have a back catalog but he hasn’t touched it besides Straight Ahead. And during the Tour he choose to spotlight MWK stuff instead of his own solo writing. And he had covers as well. But he cut out the covers and the MWK stuff tonight.

  • jan

Most of the complainers aren’t even there – so I don’t really get what they have to complain about – other than it’s their built-in personalities. Months before the album is released is not the time to play all the songs from the album. As for song selection – at an amusement park – he is there to please as many concert-goers as possible and that means playing his radio hits.

I’m so happy we got a new song to contemplate. And wow David and the guys looked great.

  • tigervixxxen

Im sure the band plays for as long as they are contracted for. Norhing about the length and composition of this show was out of the norm. I’m not sure when or why new expectations would be formed but until the norm changes that would probably be the proper assumption.

Anyhow, I’m really liking the direction of the new songs. I need to get familiar with them but both were instantly likable. Paper Heart has a great hook and melody especially.

  • wordnerdarchie

We’ve been told in the past that their contract is what determines the length of the concert. I would assume they were contracted for 1 and 1/4 hours tonight, considering the conditions (heat, in the sun, etc.) & I think that it was plenty long.

I would guess the some that are unhappy were ones that were in line at noon. (I personally wouldn’t have done that.) But that was their choice to make. But I do turn a deaf ear to their comments. I’ve heard it often enough and it’s old news.

Karen, I’ve heard the same thing, about how most concerts at BG are less than 1 hour, so I don’t know why we should have expected more. As to what these concert goers are entitled to … they were entitled to a fun day in the park & kick-ass concert. They got the ka concert, now whether they took advantage of the park … that was up to them.

  • Garnetstar

Ok yeah. I’m done with that line of questioning. It did sound like a great concert. And I am very, very happy with the sound of the new songs. Paper Heart melody is still in my head. A few hours later. Also the harmony was great. Kyle and Andy sound great with David.

  • Aileen

The fans complaining on Twitter about the show length are also the ones who’ve been to more than 20++ shows. They are “sick” of the old songs. I wonder why. The set length always had to do with contractual obligations and not David’s voice and stamina. I’m sure once he has two albums, set length will increase. That’s just how it is. Daughtry was the same way with his first album, and after the second, set lengths increased.

I’m surprised they lasted that long all dressed in long sleeves /jackets in 100 degree heat. Now that was a wardrobe malfunction.

  • sunchick

OMG, new music! *grabs Paper Heart and runs off to inspect it, tries not to rip it into tiny pieces from all the excitement*

*saunters back in singing* What use is a paper heart, when you’re stuck in the rain, stuck in the rain…something something something, something something else…damn me and my paper heart and this pouring rain…

Hooky hooky. Drums! Lyrics appear to be sufficiently Davidian enough for my liking. Flove, pretty much.

I absolutely think the set length debate is a valid concern, and I’m firmly on team moar songs next tour pleez, and team analog heart stuff live would kill me dead. That said, I have to agree that it’s probably not the right time to have the should the set length increase debate, if only because a) they haven’t had a lot of time to practice, really, as the all of the studio hoohah likely takes first priority and b) I imagine the set list will expand naturally of necessity when there is two albums worth of material. FWIW, living in the state of a thousand theme parks (why didn’t you pick one of ours, Dave? why why why?) as I do, I’ve been to a lot of free with the price of admission concerts that are part of some random concert series (summer whatever, mardi gras, yada yada..) and they’re usually not very long, so I wasn’t expecting more than what he delivered.

Was anyone else amused by the dressy matchy outfits the boys were sporting? Psssst….it’s summer, dude. You can dress down. Too cute, though, and they all looked damn fine.

  • Garnetstar

Did anyone else catch the beginning of Declaration. Wow that was awesome. I can’t wait to hear that on a YouTube. Some really great arrangements going on with the songs.

  • Trina

The fans complaining on Twitter about the show length are also the ones who’ve been to more than 20++ shows.

ROTFL I was JUST going to say the same thing! Most of what I’m reading on Twitter is many fans being happy seeing him again, the ones griping are the ones who go to EVERY.DAMN.SHOW. Some of who I know for a fact went to well over 25 shows and some are the same fans who traveled to Ryan Star’s CD party hoping he would be there and bitched when he wasnt.

In any event I’ll be there tomorrow and I dont care what they play or how long it will be for. I’ve missed that boy like crazy and oh lordy he looks amazing.. Couldnt go today because I had mom duties.

  • Incipit

Eh, My glass is more than half full, not half empty. It would have been totally full if I could have been there – but meanwhile, I’m waiting for videos, and the banter lost when the ustream phone died.

For instance “Champagne Super Nova” seemed longer in the “Heroes” Mash Up – two different tweeters said the beginning of “Declaration” was different, the ustream froze just as David stepped away from the mic for the a capella portion of “Lie” – so I want to hear that – the end of “Light On” looks like it will be fun – with the mic turned around to the audience – and of course….I want to hear the video of “Paper Heart”…just for starters. Really good night, this has been, and congrats to anyone who braved the traffic and the heat, and made it to BG!

Jealous stoked for you, Trina, and tierbee, too. Have fun! I wish I could have taken the time off to go. Or, you know, that the concert was at the other Busch Gardens.

Ha I said I was done but Trina I did think about the preserving the voice for studio.

I don’t know who the peeps complaining on Twitter are. Attendees or not. And I wasn’t trying to invalidate someone’s feelings. I was seriously wondering what would make someone feel that way.

If they were disappointed and they weren’t even there, what can you do? Maybe it will make them think twice about seeing David in the future. It really should be about having fun and enjoying live music.

And yup, I wouldn’t line up early either. But that’s me.

  • Trina

did they go to Ryan’s release party just in the hopes of seeing David?

In a word, yes. The same select fans who flew to LA to see Phil Marshall,The Crash Kings, etc. The same ones pretty much expected him to be at Ryan’s party. Two very, very OTT fans in particular and are always where he is, who always manage to meet him even if hes in a private area, who dont give two shits about Ryan traveled pretty far for the party. FWIW I was there at Ryan’s party and I witnessed the small group of pissed fans griping how it was crappy he wasnt there for his buddy Ryan.

Whoot for new song! But everytime I think of “paper heart” I think of this one line in an All-American Rejects song that went “please don’t play with me, my paper heart will bleed.” So, I imagine that’s a problem only I would have, LOL.

Anywho, as someone who likes to imagine themselves as a non-invested fan, the setlist lengths don’t bother me. The fact that they play the same songs doesn’t bother me either. They have 1 album to work with people, Cook does NOT need to cater to hardcore fans and give them multiple new songs per show! That would just leave casual DCTR owners that come to a show confused. Cook should cater to the masses not the crazy-people-who-need-a-life.

ETA: So does anybody know what era Paper Heart is from? DCTR-reject, perhaps?

  • wordnerdarchie

Garnetstar, I hope you didn’t think one of my previous posts was directed toward anything that you said, it wasn’t. I just have issues with some of the things I see on twitter regarding set lengths in general.

Jan, thanks for clarifying as to who is doing the complaining. I stand corrected.

Incipit, I like your attitude. I agree we can consider our glass as being half-full and we have much to be happy about tonight’s concert. “Paper Heart” – I would like video of that now, please. :)

  • batgirl478

Seriously? That just seems a little…creepy. I wonder what David thinks every time he sees them. And do these people just have disposable incomes? I’ve been to 2 Cook shows and went to the MWK show back in February but they were all local shows for me. I can’t imagine traveling all over the place, especially for other people’s shows where I just HOPE he might show up. And I consider myself a pretty huge fan and am dying to meet him someday but I don’t want to go to stalker lengths.

  • offside

What you wrote, Trina, makes me scratch my head…
Back to a happy post! I really like the band-jamming during some of the songs today; I’m really curious as to whether they will continue to headline or open for a bigger act.

  • Garnetstar

Naw wordnerdarchie. I don’t think that. But if you did that would be ok too. I like to hear different sides of an issue. That is why I came here to ask if anyone else felt that way or why someone could or would feel that way.

Declaration was like a beast on the Ustream. So lucky I got to hear it before it went down. Wow. That was like a reworking. Amazing.

  • sunchick

Excellent point. I think the overly invested whiner set are also forgetting these one off concerts aren’t technically a continuation of the neverending DeTour, or any tour, really, and as such the guys aren’t really going to kill themselves to be uber creative with the set list like they did when they were on the road for serious. Plus, hello, new song preview= trump card. I’d give my left pinky toe to be at a Cook show with a new song premier. That’s a first that can never be repeated. Where are their priorities? LOL

Well, and it’s not like they went up there and just slapped together a set list. And played all half-assed. You can tell they put thought into the songs they choose to play. They retooled some of the songs, put on their fancy duds and made an effort. If I thought they were half-assing it I would have no problem saying it.

That would be brand spankin new DCTR2 tunage. Someone on DCO has a reference blog with all the DCTR2 song writing info gathered together in one place and shiny like, I forget who it is right now, but that title was on the “new DCTR2 songs registered at ASCAP” list. I think the writing credits were Cook, someone named Emery, and some other dude maybe?

It was *very* different — though I couldn’t tell from the Ustream picture where that sound was coming from. Was Andy on keyboards? Here’s another photo somebody tweeted me:

    http://twitpic.com/2cmutq

  • wordnerdarchie

Nice pic MJ. That looks like the guitar that he uses for Lie. I hope we get a good video of that.

ETA: Paper Heart video is up on You tube!!

  • Garnetstar

Yep he looks good. Not gonna lie. Trying not to be too shallow. I will repeat a tweet and say the fellas look like Mumford & Sons. I like that look.

  • offside

Could you elaborate a little, MagazineFreak?
    (pretty please?)

  • nhd
  • ladymadonna

mj I was just about to post that picture. Boy, is he looking good. The Ustream was really great tonight – Dave was in exceptional voice, the new arrangements of some old favorites were a delightful surprise, the band was featured sonically and promotionally, and we got to hear a 100% brand new song. What’s to complain about? (Except maybe the brutal Williamsburg heat for those in the crowd. I spent four years in that town and you could walk your goldfish in the humidity this time of year).

ETA: Just watched the full Paper Heart concert vid a few times and have to give an enthusiastic thumbs-up for the new song. Really hooky, dynamic instrumentation, shows off Dave’s vocal chops. That could have some radio potential.

  • SashaB

MJ, here’s full video of Paper Heart from the concert: http://bit.ly/ciHvBz

I’m loving it. Absolutely loving it.

eta: Oops, too slow. Still loving it. He looked great. The band sounded great. Loving the new intro to Declaration, too.

    No complaints whatsoever.

  • MollyAnnMay

Incipit, during the tour I used to calmly check YOutube for vids the day following each concert in the evening when I got home from work. Now I feel like stalking for vids so hard I’m going to be reported to the authorities. It’s amazing what a DC drought will do to a person.

sunchick, mixed iced tea and lemonade drinks really are called Arnold Palmers — invented by the man himself, I believe. Funny Sportscenter commercial to prove it.

ETA: Good lord, ask and ye shall receive. Scuse me, off to watch Paper Heart vid. May surface for air at some point…

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

The new song is really good! Nice hooks. Good stuff.

  • Garnetstar

Ahhh Paper Heart. Yep instant ear worm. Just as I suspected. Seems like it got a nice reception. Great harmony with the Skibster. Tight tune.

  • Fergie

Thanks for the thread MJ. Sane voices in the Cook fandom FTW. Love Paper Heart, love David and the band. Would be happy to listen to the same damn setlist over and over if I could just get to a concert.

  • jan

I didn’t know what to expect – but I really like the new song – nice uptempo. So happy to have something to tide me over until the new album.

  • SybilTrelawney

Loving the new song. Very radio friendly, methinks. I not only wasn’t at the concert, I couldn’t listen to the ustream, so I haven’t yet heard the new intro to Declaration (someone post a You Tube, please?), but on my Twitter timeline there wasn’t any complaining. People who were happy to be there and people who weren’t there who were happy to get the bits of the concert they could from tweets and ustream and cellcast. And yes, the “visuals” look like they were quite enjoyable too. Kudos to David’s trainer!

  • offside

Great vid of Paper Heart! His banter is too funny. I like Neal’s guitar work during the 2nd verse.

  • Garnetstar

Hmmm maybe he was experiencing heat exhaustion. I’ve never heard him bow out of any of the glory notes in LO, even when he was dog sick. LO was the last song. Something must have been up. Otherwise he sounds stellar. Even Come Back To Me sounded vocally sweet.

  • wordnerdarchie

I just watched “Kiss on the Neck”. It was funny to see Dave singing, but no vocal sound. (Mic fail). When the tech got it working, the crowd roared, lol. Oh, I wish I had been there.

ETA: Garnetstar, that was pretty obvious on Light On that he either was not feeling well, or … I don’t know what. My guess is he was out of gas. The person that got the setlist said they cut one song. (IDYA – which is vocally taxing.)

  • wordnerdarchie

Oh my, check this pic out. He’s looks younger.

    http://twitpic.com/2cnf9h

  • Incipit

Yeah, that tweet an hour ago about an Arnold Palmer being a cure for dehydration was also likely not idle chat.

My oldest lives in LA, spoke to him yesterday – the temps are in the 70′s in the daytime right now, not the upper 90′s with humidity from hell, like the Boyz flew into.

There was an instance on the Neverending Tour where David got himself into trouble with the heat and had to take a minute backstage before the encore, while the rest of the guys vamped for a bit, which was actually pretty cool – (don’t recall which show – but I can easily find out) so he did fine, just letting the audience finish out “Light On” this time.

Line up the Arnold Palmers for tomorrow – ya know? ;)

  • seriously

Oh my, check this pic out. He’s looks younger.

    http://twitpic.com/2cnf9h

Wow. I Guess he finally got Archie to fess up the locations to The Fountain of Youth. XD

  • sunchick

Line up the Arnold Palmers for tomorrow – ya know?

And break out the matchy Virginia Is For Lovers t shirts.

Okay, I’ve finally perused a number of twitpics, and can I just point out that apparently, the naughty firebird required punishing again. I <3 guitars.

  • Curlin

Love the new songs! Off to watch more videos. :)

  • offside

I never noticed a harmony in Heroes before; is that new or have I just been missing it?

  • wellhesback

Deleted links MJ had already posted but that I didn’t see.
    very Sorry MJ.
    and THANKS for this thread

    - I think there was also that harmony in Heroes; the sound isn’t always miked or balanced as well as it was tonight.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

There are more videos coming in.

*Points upward POINT POINT* (I’ve had them posted for awhile)

  • wordnerdarchie

MJ, take a look at this face. LOL!!!!

    http://twitpic.com/2co0gz

ETA: I’ve watched Paper Heart a few times & I’ve noticed that Dave hung on to the mic a bit longer than he usually does at the end of the song, had to wipe off sweat from his forehead, & did the look at Andy/tongue thing. So I think that he was definitely feeling the heat, like others have mentioned which explains him bowing out on some of the phrases on Light On. I hope he tanks up on liquids before tomorrow night.

    Here’s another Paper Heart Video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3g2ES1ch_A

  • data785

Awesome! Happy to come home to all this. Thanks, Mj!

  • MollyAnnMay

wordnerdarchie I noticed that hanging in the mic thing too, in the bit of live stream I saw and in the vids. Like this , which I’m pretty sure is from the end of Paper Heart. (Oops, just watched the vid again and no it’s not. But I still like it.)

He may have been so hyped up to be in front of an audience again (and doing a new song to boot) that he forgot how to pace himself. He was really hyper at Morongo IIRC but a cold, rainy evening show is different from one on a hot, humid afternoon.

As someone said, if they’re smart, they’ll *all* be wearing tank tops tomorrow.

  • tierbee

Even though I have spent most of the day in my car and my butt is numb… Oh man was that worth it and I am going back for more tomorrow :) If I can stay awake I will pop back in but *happy dance* for new song that I love love love. Set length, schmet length. NEW SONG! And yes, I still love him. Handsome overheated thing that he is (maybe short sleeves tomorrow, boys?)

  • wordnerdarchie

Hey guys, I linked above another Paper Heart vid, with very good sound. You can actually get the lyrics. Check it out.

  • Garnetstar

Ahhh “Damn me and my paper heart, in the pouring rain.” I like.

  • incarcerate

Love the song ‘Paper Heart’ and DC is lookin sexy HOT!!!

  • sunchick

^ I dug that line first listen. Poor soggy paper heart.

I can feel in the evening air all the words I want to say
I can tell as you turn to leave that it wouldn’t make you stay
Overhead the lights come on and suddenly I see
that glow is gonna guide you home wherever that may be…

What use is a paper heart when you’re stuck in the rain, stuck in the rain
Cuz all the love that I hold inside, can we (?) wash it away, wash it away
Let it fall, take it all, cuz I’m so tired of feelin everything…
Damn me and my paper heart, in the pouring rain.

You know what image this song makes me think of now that I hear more of the lyrics? That video of the race for hope, and Dave in the rain, talking about Adam. :’(

  • seriously

I think the line “punch a hole in my paper heart” really sounds like a line he wrote. It sounds more Analog Heart-ish, the whole song does actually.

  • weareallinnocent

Well, that was all kinds of awesome! Thanks for the thread, MJ!

Yay for new Cook music, and soggy paper hearts. :-) Somehow, I think I shouldn’t be smiling at that, but still I am.

You know what image this song makes me think of now that I hear more of the lyrics? That video of the race for hope, and Dave in the rain, and talking about Adam. :’(

I agree. Now that I see more lyrics, this makes me think so too.

Overhead the lights come on and suddenly I see
that glow is gonna guide you home wherever that may be…

    Wow.

  • wordnerdarchie

MJ has put up a new post, and there is a link to unofficial lyrics for Paper Heart in that new thread. Let’s migrate. K?

  • Dlynne

I watched the live stream until their battery died. At that point there were 3300 viewers watching the stream. Incredible.

  • tierbee

At that point there were 3300 viewers watching the stream. Incredible.

    Wow, that is awesome!

  • blissful

Thanks for the videos, which I’m slowly working through. I know it’s all about progression, but I love the band version of Straight Ahead, my favorite from AH.

Is this version of Heroes a mash-up? I couldn’t figure out that bridge (?) part.

Anyways, I thought Cook and the band sounded great. I’m loving the more dynamic instrumentation and the power and clarity of his voice.

As for the new songs: YES (with the edge going to Paper Heart)!

Oh, it took me awhile to figure out the younger Amish guy was Andy :)

  • wellhesback

blissful – I think “Heroes” was mashed up with “Champagne Supernova” by Oasis.

  • Incipit

There’s an Awesome collection of pictures already, at this link.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of photo documentation of this Double Header, judging by the Tweets I’ve seen.

  • luci

Anyone know what the set list was?

  • tierbee

Oh, it took me awhile to figure out the younger Amish guy was Andy

LOL, I commented at one point that Monty looked like an Amish guy, he’s so adorable.

There are some fantastic pictures that I’ve seen floating around – must get closer tomorrow (erm, today) and take some of my own. I always forget to take them, I get distracted by David. Can’t help it.

  • tierbee

    Set list from DCO:

    I Did It For You
    Heroes (w/Champagne Supernova)

    Straight Ahead (Analog Heart)
    Bar-ba-sol
    Come Back To Me
    – encore –

  • wellhesback

There sure are lot of beautiful photos of Dave floating around from this show! Here’s one of Cookie and the Doctor
    http://yfrog.com/0p7tuj

lotsa good lookin testosterone on that stage

  • CookifiedTexan

Here’s one of my twitpics from yesterday. Probably my favorite.

    http://twitpic.com/2cnmv4

  • mon_mon

@CookifiedTexan Your Picture is breathtaking! Do any of you know that the inscription similar to AC on his guitar is the brand of the guitar or custom made for Cook?

  • CookifiedTexan

Thanks mon_mon! I honestly don’t know about the guitar- I think it just might be decoration.

Oh, MJ, just a slight correction on the setlist….Kiss on the Neck did not include a Hotel California snippet. Heroes did contain a snippet of Champagne Supernova though.

  • MollyAnnMay

Oh, CookifiedTexan thanks for confirming that you took that photo — I’d linked to it previously from the ontd_ai post without knowing who took it. It’s gorgeous!

ETA: mon_mon the guitar is a Gibson Firebird, though can’t see the Firebird logo (it’s in the upper corner on the white section -but is washed out due to glare). Anyway, I’m willing to bet it’s a custom guitar from the ground up, which, depending on the model, isn’t unusual for a left-handed guitar. That design you’re referring to isn’t standard either, so its probably one of David’s or one that he had put on there. I *love* all his Firebirds, but especially the red one.Yum.

  • Fergie

    MON_MON

The AC on David’s guitar stands for Adam Cook, his older brother that he lost to brain cancer last year. David also has the initials AC tatto on his upper left arm

  • Incipit

Reports of fans (electrical – not the Make-a-Wish family from last night) on stage tonight for the Sunday show – two at the front and one blowing on Kyle’s position. It’s actually hotter today than yesterday, and several faintings in the park have been reported on the Twitter Concert feed.

But nothing different has been reported from Soundcheck…”Lie” and CBTM is all I’ve seen – and IDK if there will be another thread for tonight’s show or not – so I’ll wait&see where to put the details from this concert.

  • mon_mon

@MollyAnnMay @Fergie @CookifiedTexan Thank you very much for your answers. Now I am trying to educate myself everything about David Cook :)
