David Cook is back from his two-week tour of Iraq with the USO, and is ready to “wake up in a different city every day.” That, according to an interview with E! News from the set of VH1′s new comedy show, Free Radio. David will appear on the April 9 show.

A Spring tour of mostly small college campuses is set to begin on February 13 in Tallahassee, FL.

About next year’s Grammys David tells E!, “Next year, I’m hoping to hang up a trophy shelf.” Hm.

What I Could Have Done Without: Ryan Seacrest making his point with his own very special form of sign language. Brain bleach! Stat!

  • Jolene

Yeah, Ryan’s intro was a little less than pleasant. I’m starting to see what people were saying about liking Idol’s Ryan while disliking E!’s Ryan.

Can’t wait to see what he does on “Free Radio”, which I had no idea existed until now. I love Sketch!David, so hopefully he brings the funny.

And I’m glad he found a comfortable way to address the Kim/dating issue.

    ETA:

i thought michael johns has a big mouth. i take that back, this guy has an even bigger mouth!

LOL, yeah, saying he hopes his work receives recognition is terrible. Shame on you Dave!

  • maracaibo

He is so cute…. Go Cookie.
I think he is pretty sure he will have lots of trophies come next year. I hope he gets his wish.

  • kathrynTX

YAY! I saw a snippet of this when E! News was on this past weekend but thought I missed the little story. Maybe it just now aired? ANYWAY, thanks! Oh there was someone else in this video besides David Cook? I didn’t even notice…

Dang. He is SO smart. I am happy to hear him say it out loud finally, that his music and career come first. I firmly believe that you have to take care of yourself first or you won’t be able to be anything to anyone else or help take care of anyone else. And he looks just fantastic.

I’d love for him to win a Grammy or six. Who knows if it will be for this “first” album or not though. I do think that some critics may look back on their thoughts about this first album in the future and change their minds. He’ll be around for awhile, I suspect, and he will have plenty of opportunities to win awards, if that’s what he wants. If he just keeps doing what he wants for his own reasons, all will be well for him.

YAY David Cook and the EEB! Hope I get to see you guys in KC!
    :clap_tb:

  • gemzone

Not a fan of Cooks music but I have to say that I like David Cook the man. I thought his statement about hopeing that next year he can hang up a trophy shelf was just stating his desire to do well with his music. I hope things work out for him.

  • 2dogs

    About next yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Grammys David tells E!, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Next year, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hoping to hang up a trophy shelf.”

David may be many things, but he is not humble. But same with any other artist out there, there is nothing wrong with him having a good opinion of himself. This isn’t a profession for shrinking violets and the interviews would get pretty boring if all we got was aw shucks false modesty. I love the idea of the college tour. I think it is a perfect way to keep up his visibility and expand his fan base. Wish he would ditch the hat. It looks like he’s trying too hard to do that cool kids club thing that all young hollywood guys seem to be going for these days.

  • hardkandy

LOL, what was up with Ryan’s intro? Weird.

    Wow, David looks good.

  • EmmaJK

Gosh, he’s cute. He’s just glowing with happiness and contentment. Yeah, he always seems to give the folks who aren’t predisposed to like him at least one comment to chew on, lol. I love his ambition; it’s honest – yet at the same time he manages to stay humble – “a few more ears are tuned in”, heh.

    Did I mention he’s adorable? I did?

  • Jolene

David may be many things, but he is not humble.

I disagree, but it’s really a matter of opinion. I think saying he hopes to win some awards, fingers crossed, does not make him a full of himself McSmugFace (who called him that during Idol? Hilarious!). All it does show is that he has high hopes. He said before that he goes by “Hope for the best, expect the worst”, so yeah – he hopes for the best, I see nothing wrong or unhumble about that.

  • elisad

The hat I hated actually looked cute in this video!

  • cheese

I don’t think David will be getting a Grammy next year, but there’s nothing wrong with hoping for one. He would probably need to have a couple of big singles and sell a bajillion more albums to overcome the lukewarm response the album received from critics. (See Daughtry, Chris). The Grammy peeps like critical darlings, huge sellers, and legends. Anyway, I think the E! interviewer probably brought up the topic – he couldn’t very well say “My album sucks – no Grammy hopes for me!”

I’m not a fan of the lumberjack shirt, but it looks like David is grunging up his image a bit with the wool and flannel. As long as he doesn’t stick the snotrag in his backpocket, I’m happy.

  • listen

Cook really is a cutie. Beautiful skin (it is flawless and he wears “pale” well). I love that hat on him…

edit: please don’t question the motives of your fellow posters.

He is just so well-spoken and witty and humble (ha!) it is hard not to like the guy.

I think Dave has a boyfriend, but he’s not going to say anything about this.

  • Jolene

I think Dave has a boyfriend, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not going to say anything about this.

You’d be amazed how many active fanfiction communities are dedicated to that idea. David is a sweet sensitive guy and very clearly not a homophobe, but he has had a string of girlfriends so all evidence points in the other direction.

  • Dr. Tracey

There’s nothing wrong with ambition and David definitely seems to have his priorities in order.
I thought he was a bit cocky at the beginning of last season but my opinion has changed as time’s progressed. I really hope he gets to put that shelf up.
    Good luck David!

  • tierbee

I think he’s hopeful and honest and not the type of guy to say, “Aw, well, I’ll never win because my album sucks…” That would not be very hot :)

I don’t think he’s arrogant, but I think he’s confident. Well, I’m sure sometimes he’s arrogant… he’s a 26 yr old boy :), and a cute one to boot (and a musician – I manage one of those, indie or not, sometimes he’s damn arrogant… you have to be at the least confident or you’re not going to get up in front of people and perform very successfully).

He does look adorable, though, and always so well spoken… lots of Cookie yesterday with this, Jimmy Kimmel rerun, and him doing his playlist on MTV Hits. YAY!

  • SashaB

David said he wanted a platinum record. Check. David set he wanted a platinum album. Check. Certified platinum. Unlike some contestants, David actually won AI and is building a nice track record of success on BillBoard sales and charts. Obviously he’s dreaming big. So if David wants to build a trophy mantle, not too inconceivable. He’s already hanging platinum plaques up, so why not get the shelf ready? And good for him.

    Thanks MJ for the thread.

  • sma11ie

David may be many things, but he is not humble.

I also disagree– I think one can be humble and confident/ambitious at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. I think he wants success, will try hard to achieve that success, and truly believes in himself without thinking he’s better than everyone else. It’s the whole if you shoot for the moon and miss, at least you’ll land in the stars mentality. I dig it.

Anyway, I think the E! interviewer probably brought up the topic – he couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t very well say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My album sucks – no Grammy hopes for me!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    ^^Agree.

Also, I’m a BIG fan of the hat, and I’m soo glad he learned the right way to wear it– pushed back, with the top part slouching a bit. It’s the look Jake Gyllenhaal’s been sporting for a while now and I think it’s hot. The flannel suits him, too. He looks like an attractive, normal that I might know, rather than the primped, done up, blazer’ed Idol guy.

As long as he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stick the snotrag in his backpocket, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy.

    I have a feeling that won’t go away…

RE: Ryan’s intro, I think I’m in the minority, but I thought it was kinda hilarious. And in terms of addressing the Kim thing, he actually answered the question quite directly in his KC radio interview this morning (forget where I got the link). He didn’t understand why it’s news, but also said she’s great, and they just didn’t work out. It’s unfortunate he has to talk about it, but was good to hear him answer it so comfortably.

  • weareallinnocent

LOL Sasha, and here I was going to say (before seeing your post) dude said he hoped he’d need a shelf not that he’s actually measuring for and building one! :-)

And, in the different strokes category, me likey the Fedora very much!

Good to see him again, thanks MJ!

  • jtgraffix

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Next year, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hoping to hang up a trophy shelf.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
there is absolutely nothing wrong with this statement. is it bad to aim high in your career?

  • kathrynTX

Just wanted to add that me thinks that hat looks A LOT like another one I’ve seen in a much older pic. He seems to have liked hats for quite some time, nothing new. YAY for the snap shirts and hats! I like ‘em.

Oh yeah I forgot about Mr. Cocky McSmugface! BWHAHAHAHHAHA! Hey almost everyone I know has a bit of attitude at some time or another. As for me on this topic about Mr. Cook, he seems confident and hopeful. Hope for the best, expect the worst…I think he’s said that quite a few times recently. I personally think self-confidence and goal-setting are attractive in a guy. Hey if you’re gonna set a goal, might as well go for it! He just didn’t SOUND or come across as smug or arrogant to me here. Oh well, YMMV.

  • Jolene

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already hanging platinum plaques up, so why not get the shelf ready? And good for him.

Is it completely stalkerish of me to want him to make another Vlog after he gets the plaque for DCTR, just so we know where he puts it relative to the TOML plaque? I want to see them side by side on the wall! Dave spoiled us with that last Vlog.

And in terms of addressing the Kim thing, he actually answered the question quite directly in his KC radio interview this morning (forget where I got the link).

Here’s the interview. It’s a download link but I think you can also listen without downloading.

  • weareallinnocent

LMAO and going with “yes.” :-)

    ‘s ok though!

  • lefty

I really do like Cook a lot as a person, but from time to time he makes comments (like this one) that make me cringe a little. I do believe that he is only expressing a hope or desire here, and he’s trying to be a little cheeky about it, but it falls off the mark for me. I do read that remark as a bit arrogant. Or at the least, a little naive. But that’s just me.

Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be amazed how many active fanfiction communities are dedicated to that idea.

Oh dear God, there’s AI fanfiction?!?!?!!

  • SashaB

You know, I don’t have an issue with it. Both teams that competed in the SuperBowl said they thought they’d win. I didn’t cringe when Ben or Kurt Warner said their respective teams would win – even though the Cardinals were the underdog. The Lombardi trophy is the biggest prize. Every football player and organization starts off the season hoping and dreaming of winning their industry’s prized trophy. So I don’t have an issue if that’s what David wants or hopes for, because the Grammy trophies reflect his chosen industry’s prize. *Shrugs* His authenticity and candor are refreshing. Thankfully he backs it up with talent and a solid track record. So we’ll just see how it goes.

  • lefty

I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t cringe when Ben or Kurt Warner said their respective teams would win

You’re right, but they’d made it to the Superbowl. If Cook were nominated for a Grammy, I wouldn’t think twice about the remark. I guess my feeling is that he is still very new on the scene to be talking about building a trophy shelf for his Grammy. But I like him and this comment won’t change that. He’s just talking. I say things all the time that fall off the mark; I’m just lucky they’re not televised.

ETA: I’m not faulting him for hoping to win a Grammy. I’d wonder about any musician who didn’t at least hope for that. It was just the way he said it, that’s all.

  • hollygo9

In the age of artists like Kayne West, ‘I hope I win a grammy’ doesn’t even sound presumptious to me. :)
    Boyfriend is looking a-dor-a-bibble.

  • 2dogs

I realize that reasonable minds can differ, but I don’t see being humble as necessarily being a badge of honor (I actually looked “humble” up in the dictionary and the first line of entry read “marked by meekness”). I think David is a highly confident, ambitious person and that his confidence and ambition is warranted (i.e., it is backed by talent). When I watched the Idol rewind, I was struck by how much I liked the pre-make over, “cocky” David. It seemed more of who is really is, and I think sometimes we get presented with too much of what a person thinks we want to see, and we lose something in the process.

I don’t think it is wrong for David to publicly say that he wants or hopes for a grammy and I hope my post didn’t convey that. I think wanting success is the right attitude and he should be free to say it. I just don’t see it as “humble” thing to say. It’s kinda ballsy, as it should be. He is a rock star, not a choir boy.

    Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the look Jake Gyllenhaalà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been sporting for a while now

Yes it is. No offense to Jake (or David) but I can’t stand that look. The lumberjack shirt I’m fine with. And his skin really does look amazing here.

  • Trina

Oh dear God, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s AI fanfiction?!?!?!!

Oh heck yes. I made the mistake of reading Oh No They Didn’t one day and accidentally came across Archucook fic :help_tb: I was traumatized for days.

  • lefty

I made the mistake of reading Oh No They Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t one day and accidentally came across Archucook fic I was traumatized for days.

    Oh, Trina.

Pardon me while I go cleanse my brain.

  • Jolene

Oh heck yes. I made the mistake of reading Oh No They Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t one day and accidentally came across Archucook fic I was traumatized for days.

That’s why I stay away from the comment section on any Cook or Archuleta story posted on ONTD. I don’t know how it started, but appearantly it’s become a trend to post mature fiction about them over there, without filtering. Which, just, eek.

  • SashaB

Yeah, I didn’t have a probably when Big Ben said they’d go to the SuperBowl in August either. But I also recall Dave saying that he wanted a platinum album in the fall. So that’s just his style.

  • weareallinnocent

Cook said very early on, like on Jimmy Kimmel or Ellen or something, that he wanted to win “one of everything” except the derogatory one (whose name I forget.) So none of this award talk is particularly new. Oh well… More power to him, and I hope he does! :-)

  • Ashley19

Did he look hot or what?

I thought Ryan Seacrest’s introduction wasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ weird! Loved the interview, though.

  • Lisa

Wanted to say…..David always wore the hats waaaay before Idol. I have a truly funky fugly pic of him with a godawful hat on, boy was not photogenic in it either, lol. Errrm come to think of it, if I remember correctly the hat looks whitish in the pic. LOL. He also has always dressed down, so he is not trying to be hip or whatever, it’s who he truly is. I actually thought he was stepping out of who he truly was with what he wore on the show, based on personal pics I have seen from his past. Anyways…

Nice vid & I agree it does not make him seem smug. Nothing wrong with hoping/wishing/dreaming.

  • luckeee55

Ryan is a pig in this piece.

I don’t see David as arrogant here, cocky and self confident, yes. I also don’t understand why they continue to beat the dead horse that is Light On. Wasted prime promotion time that could be used for something else. Overall I think Cook came off well in this little piece.

  • phyllis_0227

I can not believe I wrote a responce and at the end hit esc and lost it all. lol I still think the college tour is very smart. He is very good friends with Carrie and his way of attacking his music success is so like hers. It was her 3rd single “Jesus Take The WHeel” that pushed her to the top. My wish is that he launch a new video soon to coincied with his tour. I don’t think “Light On’ is that strong to impress the Grammy communitie but hope they will take in to thought all the records he set during his appearance on the show. Plus how well TOML did. Anyway college tour is DC’s way of reaching out to those he feels put him where he is. Plus he does his music for the love of it. This is who he is “love him or leave him” I love him!!! And in comparison to DA, his 2nd relelase did nothing for his album as they hoped it would, so they are working on next album and have struck out in another direction with Nickalodoen etc which is very smart. And his tour is small too. Not unusual at all for these guys. So good luck to all and I will cross my fingers for that next video to hit soon. Carrie already has 2 singles hitting the charts not even including the one she sang at the Peoples Choice awards. And David can do that to as all his songs on that ALbum are single/viseo worthy. Could be a long ride for this album!!! He handles himself well in public I think and I love his quick wit and humor. JMHO…lol

  • yeahyeahsure

I’m confused with the Carrie comparison. Third Single? JTTW is Carrie’s first official non-coronation single. Or are you talking about “Before He Cheats”? It doesn’t matter really because JTTW was huge at the Country Charts – went #1 and all that. Same with “Don’t Forget To Remember Me” (2nd single), “Before He Cheats” and then “Wasted”. And Carrie was already multiplatinum (I could be wrong but I think she was already way over 2M) even before BHC successfully crossed over to Pop.

  • sma11ie

    Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the look Jake Gyllenhaalà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been sporting for a while now

Yes it is. No offense to Jake (or David) but I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand that look.

He also has always dressed down, so he is not trying to be hip or whatever, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s who he truly is.

I agree that he’s not trying to be hip. He’s a self-professed nerd and goober, and I think his look reflects that more than anything. I didn’t bring up Jake G to suggest that DC’s emulating that look/type, I was just explaining why I happen to like it. He’s always worn questionable things and I get the feeling he will continue to march to the beat of his own drum in his fashion choices. He’s pretty hit or miss in that department- I don’t always love his instincts (e.g. did NOT like the purple and red v-neck T’s and the 1000 pounds of jewelry over the summer), but in this particular case, I like it :). And, hee, I have the female version of that hat/look, so maybe I’m partial. And, unlike the trilby, these hats serve a purpose and keep you warm in the winter :). Wow, I can’t believe I just wrote a long defense of a hat! Haha, I need help. Going to join “stalkerish” Jolene in rehab now…

  • BootStar

I not only love the fugly hat, I loved it when he wore it to keep his head warm, which apparently is tres uncool. And I, too, love the longer hair. Loctopus FTW! (Hate, hate, hate the trilby, however. Makes him look like Mr. Potatohead. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…)

  • Tess

Based on David’s success with the “Cougar” generation I thought Ryan’s intro played very well into that genre.

I actually thought David looked good….much more approachable than he has looked lately…more like everyman than the rock star wanabe with the guyliner.

I applaud David for aiming for the top…if that isn’t what your aiming for you shouldn’t be in this business. Even though I’m not into David’s style of music I do want to congratulate him on the success of his album. I truly hope he will also release a new single shortly and have the opportunity to “act” as well as sing in his own video. I thought he was really given the short end of the stick with his video for Light On. The story line didn’t feature David and the story had absolutely nothing to do with the song. I always thought they just pasted that video together…its only saving grace was that David and the Band did a reasonable job.

David seems like a smart cookie (no play on words intended) and if he is patient and hardworking he may get to use that shelf one day…sadly, it does seem a bit unlikely with his debut album. Good songs….not great songs!

  • GEEK4VOCAB

Who doesn’t wish to win awards? He’s not allowed to hope?

  • ShariG

So glad David is safely back from Iraq. He is looking fine, love the hat, and of course he should have his “fingers crossed” that this time next year his first album will be in the running for a Grammy. I have my fingers crossed right along with him.

I love the guy and am a fan for life, but I am disappointed about two things. First, the college campus tour. I am sorry that there aren’t more stops on the Declaration Tour that would be more welcoming to fans a bit above college age. I get the nostalgia thing, but many of these venues only are selling tickets to their students and then community residents making it hard for many of us who are die hard Cook fans to have a chance to see him in person. I also understand the need to expand his fan base, but as a current fan I was really looking forward to seeing him perform this spring and was willing to travel to do it. Now I am having trouble finding a place where I am even allowed to attend.

The second thing I am disappointed about is that his record company has not released another single yet. I was one of those people who really liked “Light On”, but there are many songs on that CD that are even better, in my opinion, and I would love to have a new single playing on the radio and a new video to download. I am hopeful that he is in good hands and want to trust that they know what they are doing. Bottom line, the guy can really sing. He is an incredible talent and that should win out when all is said and done. Along with so many others, I hope he is performing and making records for many, many years to come.

  • hypertwink

He looks good. As in luminous, almost pretty. My friends and I have a theory that in break-ups, the one who was wronged ends up the better looking one after so with that in mind, Kim was the one who effed up the relationship (not scientific at all) :biggrin_wp: Also, the whole hat-flannel combo looks great on him.

Him wanting a Grammy is not news. Him saying he wishes/wants one isn’t either. I’m sure every musician out there wants an award. I don’t find anything wrong in saying he wishes he wins awards or even how he says it was fine.

Cookleta slash fic? I read them and now that Archie’s 18, I don’t have to be skeeved out when there’s a R rated scene. :bigsurprise_ee: Some are even awesome and entertaining. As are the Mavid fics.

  • Keel

I like his more casual look and the longer hair. I doubt he and the band will be traveling with a hairstylist on this tour (unlike the AI tour), so I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot of be-hatted Cook pics/videos in the coming months. With that skin, he for sure doesn’t need a makeup artist either.

Also? I hope he gets all that he hopes for. Grammys, AMAs and all sorts of other rock star stuff he so rightfully deserves. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, IMO.

So happy to hear that many venues are already selling out. Which reminds me:

Here is another interview link (this one’s with a Green Bay station): http://www.4shared.com/file/83963441/1d6fd595/WIXX__Green_Bay_.html

They note that the UW-Green Bay show is already sold out. Whoooo!

  • forlife

Well, I wouldn’t exactly call David humble. The trophy statement is arrogant imo. No getting around those type of comments not sounding smug. It isn’t very fair to call other idols arrogant for saying less of things and then to turn around and say David isn’t smug for comments like these. A little confidence never hurt anyone though. :wink_ee:

  • GEEK4VOCAB

He’s confident and hopeful. That is NOT the same as arrogant or cocky. He should be confident about that album… every song is awesome. I never skip.

Also, I think it’s genius for him to go on the college tour and pull in more young fans. His live performances are kick ass and they will love him.

I also think it’s a good idea for him to distance himself just a tiny bit from AI, because the kind of people who like his kind of music are not traditional AI fans. In my opinion.

And I can’t wait till he gets to curse with impunity again.

    edited: dial it back, please

  • weareallinnocent

I also think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a good idea for him to distance himself just a tiny bit from AI, because the kind of people who like his kind of music are not traditional AI fans. In my opinion.

    This.

  • jpfan

Mmm, Michael Johns (for example) getting the shelf ready for the “Grammy” – arrogant and smug. Cook just confident so it’s no problem.

I firmly believe they’ll be lots of distancing from “traditional” AI fans in Cook’s future.

  • CathyMK

I’ve had a feeling ever since last spring that David’s music comes first, and a girlfriend is way down the list of priorities. Maybe when he finally meets someone really special he’ll follow the time-honored tradition of putting his girlfriend/wife in the band, like Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono, and Patty Scialfa.

  • Jolene

Mmm, Michael Johns (for example) getting the shelf ready for the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Grammyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ – arrogant and smug. Cook just confident so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no problem.

“Getting the shelf ready” = arrogant, for either Cook or Johns.
“Hoping to need a shelf” = confident, self assured, hopeful.

That’s the difference, not who’s saying the words.
At least it is for me.

  • mac

Well, I’ll admit that I’m the kind of girl that likes the strong, confident, edgier kind of guys. Not into the humble, meek, and wimpy. So hearing about a trophy shelf just makes me all tingly inside. :mrgreen_wp:

  • ptslittlecomment

I am among those who found nothing cocky or beyond the pale about his Grammy comment. Why can’t he hope? Wouldn’t anyone in his shoes? Was his sin in the hoping or for the admitting that he hoped “with fingers crossed”?
I think his decision to work the college circuit is brilliant. He gets to target a new audience, build buzz around his shows and get press about playing to sold-out houses at the same time. No one has – publically at least – ruled out a second leg of the tour for wider audiences such as Madonna is doing for her now-on-hiatus Sticky & Sweet tour this summer.
And just in passing; I really don’t think this is true in DC’s case, but what would it matter if he did had a boyfriend? Would that make him any less talented? Any less handsome? Any less smarter? No! And it wouldn’t make him any less or more accessible to his fans or would-be girlfriends either.
DC is continuing to do well in his career. I truly do hope he reaches out far and away beyond his initial AI fanbase. I’d like to hear his music for years to come.

  • IdolFanatic

edit: learn to keep your anger under control, or i will put you in moderation.

  • IdolFanatic

Not into the humble, meek, and wimpy.

Well one can be humble without being wimpy. I think Cook is the perfect combination of humble yet confident.

Mmm, Michael Johns (for example) getting the shelf ready for the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Grammyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ – arrogant and smug. Cook just confident so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no problem.

LOL! I think that’s always the case for Idol fans at every board.

I agree IdolFanatic. I just meant at the “extremes”. Cookie is the perfect combination!

I wasn’t angry, but I apologize that it came off that way.

You can’t lash out at posters in a rude way here. If you haven’t read my guidelines–carefully–you need to.

And this goes for everyone. I’ve been editing WAY too much lately. If someone criticizes your favorite, you are NOT permitted to attack, scold or mock them.

Ambition, drive, and self-confidence are necessary qualities for success, not just in the music business but in any business. And I like my rawk stars with a bit of swagger, so I have no issue with DC admitting to wanting a Grammy. I think where MJ has rubbed me the wrong way a few times is that his comments have been at the expense of others in the competition, e.g. he should have gotten further (which implies someone else should have gone home sooner). But in all fairness, the interviewers do kind of set him up with the questions.

    That is one pretty Cookie!

  • sunchick

Well, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll admit that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m the kind of girl that likes the strong, confident, edgier kind of guys. Not into the humble, meek, and wimpy. So hearing about a trophy shelf just makes me all tingly inside.

A girl after my own heart then, bb. You know what else makes me tingly? Grunge!Dave. Hee. Boyfriend sure loves that new hat.

It looks like heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trying too hard to do that cool kids club thing that all young hollywood guys seem to be going for these days.

Actually, my theory is that the hat in it’s many incarnations appears in public when the stylist isn’t in tow. Thus Cookie’s hat fettish is actually either a lazy I don’t feel like messing with my PITA hair thing, or an I have been told I can’t be trusted to do my own hair thing. Or both. :D

Mmm, Michael Johns (for example) getting the shelf ready for the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Grammyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ – arrogant and smug. Cook just confident so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no problem.

Aww, this might be true for some, but I didn’t mind MJ’s interview either. And I’ll expand on what I said in MJ’s thread….Brandon Flowers had a public feud with Pete Wentz. In concert, Michael Hutchence used to change the lyrics in Elegantly Wasted to “better than Oasis.” And you know whose music I adore? Brandon Flowers and Michael Hutchence. So the way I figure it, it’s rock music, and a little bit of swagger always comes with the territory. (Sometimes a lot of swagger.) And that’s the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it. To each his own, mileage, etc etc.

  • 2dogs

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rock musicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.a little bit of swagger always comes with the territory. (Sometimes a lot of swagger.)

Well said Sunchick. This was the point I was trying to make, but you said it better. I see both Michael and David as really confident (maybe even cocky) guys, but also cool and funny. Not humble, not boring. If everyone had the same personality as Archie, much as I love the guy, I think I would have to pound my head against a rock until I was unconscious.

Anyway, back to the subject. I wonder what songs David will use to fill out his concerts? It’s always a little tricky to tour with only one album under the belt. I’m guessing Billy Jean again, but he will either need to dip into the AH days or do some covers. Looking forward to seeing the videos.

Well ain’t that the truth. Although I also believe there’s a difference between “hoping to have something” and “thinking you should have something”… it’s also my observation that there is a double standard in how we digest the words of those we love and those we don’t.

  • cookcricket

DC looks great! Love the hat! Loved it pulled down too, but this way a little more. Love, love the flannel shirt and longer hair.

I hope he gets what he’s hoping for and am glad he’s not afraid to state it! Go DC!

I wonder what songs David will use to fill out his concerts? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s always a little tricky to tour with only one album under the belt.

I’m thinking he may pull from Analog Heart, some Midwest King songs and some covers. In fact, I think he may have mentioned this, IIRC.

I’m also quite happy for the potential of gaining new fans!

  • aly

    Point very well made JPFan.

Mavid lives on!! They always have something in common. They
just “get each other”. Haha–What do you know, both of them
are confident and aiming high in their careers.

  • sunchick

but he will either need to dip into the AH days or do some covers.

Apparently, Cook told somebody at one of the promo appearances that the band is learning some of the AH material. Woot, fingers crossed for Stitches, Searchlights, and Let Go, and lots of tubey vids. There’s a nice cross section of new cover tunes that popped up in the few mini concerts he’s done with the EEB thus far….Hunger Strike ( at the Jingle Jam thingies), Man In The Box (Orlando HOB), Little Lies (numerous times, including Kimmel), Hot For Teacher and F*ck Her Gently (USO tour.) I imagine some of those will work their way into the set list. There is a Tulsa date, so I would think at the very least a MWK tune or two will be played in Tulsa. Other than that, I am hoping for a crapload of DCTR tunes.

    (I’m comment 69. Heh, heh heh…)

    # 70 yeah!!

Well that solves that mystery of where my winter hat went I did not need scooby and the gang..oh keep it it looks great on him :hmm2_ee:

  • DLPF

Loved the interview! Hated Seacrest – what was he thinking? That we’d be impressed by his “edgy” behavior? Bleh!

  • daenarys

Mavid trash-talking continues y’all: Cook told the WIXX radio dj yesterday that he’s a lil nervous about his impending solo tour becoz now he won’t have Mike Johns to blame if something goes wrong. I’m just waiting for MJ to throw the next right hook. LOL.

    Cocky/confident/smuuuug/competitive/sporty/goofy/rockstars FTW!

Also: “nurturing….” So he thinks music and girlfriends are things that need nurturing. What?! Nothing. I’m not thinking anything. …..

  • AZIdolFan

just saw the video and Ryan cracked me up cause he looked like such a dork trying to do those lewd gestures and noises. It was hilarious!!!!

And personally I don’t think David looked or sounded cocky when he said he was hoping to put up a trophy shelf. But I hope he does get nominated for something and hopefully he will will something.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

For songs to fill out his concert I nominate “Creep” and his acoustic version of “Man in the Box.”

  • hypertwink

I also want The Truth and Optimistic to a Fault.

  • hypertwink

OMG, I watched Kyle Peek’s Birthday/Gig and the band was there to support him. They also sang Little Lies, and this is why a million David Cook/Kyle Peek slash will be written from now on. :wub_tb: Kyle was adorable!

    Awww. Thanks for the vid!

and this is why a million David Cook/Kyle Peek slash will be written from now on

:smirk1_ee: I think Cook has more bromances than hats, which is saying a lot. That band is too freakin talented, btw. I swear if they recorded that random impromtu live performance of Little Lies and put it up on iTunes I’d totally download it and play it incessantly.

  • tierbee

Aw, that video was awesome! I think I love his whole band :)

  • daenarys

Aaaww, Kyle and Andy sing backup? David totally hit gold with this band. It’s hard to reconcile sweet sweet Kyle with the manic hair drummer boy!

So DC blinged out and guylinered for the AI tour. I think for the Declaration Tour that Massive Alien Skull Sock might be his signature fashion statement *grins*

  • Trina

“Are you drunk”? ROTFL!!! Right there Kyle somewhat reminded me of what I looked like on my 21st B’day :laugh_tb:

  • Jolene

They also sang Little Lies, and this is why a million David Cook/Kyle Peek slash will be written from now on.

That video was complete win. And yes, the levels of bromance involved in the David Cook fandom are ridic. That boy is so touchy feely, God bless him.

I truly do love his entire band – Andy and Neal are a part of Dave’s musical growth and history, and Kyle and Joey really became an integral part very quickly. They’re a real band, and that’s wonderful.

  • leome

Nothing wrong with saying out loud what everyone thinks. If wanting a Grammy makes you an arrogant then I guess everyone who submits their work is an arrogant, even if they think the chances are low, I think all of them want it. Which actually would make David the most humble singer of 2008, cause he is the only one I remember who didn’t submit his songs for consideration…

My fav bromance still is Cook/Wright. You can’t go wrong with a musician and a sports guy. Although I’d love to see his reaction if he ever meets Jared Leto.

I like these things David does with VH1, no idea what is this show, but can’t wait to see some comedy stuff.

  • sma11ie

That Little Lies vid is FTW. I stayed up for Rickey’s cellcast last night and it was awesome. I hope more videos surface on the BANTER, cuz I couldn’t understand most of what everyone was laughing at through the cellcast. Anyway, it sounded like it was quite the birthday party. I heart the EEB boys.

Labels submit their artists for nomination, and Academy members can submit as well. I also think the dates for submission run from Oct 07 through Sept 08. So he wouldn’t be eligible until next year.

YaHoo Finance announced that DCTR has been certified Platinum SOLD.
    Congratulations David Cook!

David Cook’s Self Titled Debut CD is Certified Platinum by the RIAA for Sales Exceeding 1 Million Units

“Last Season’s American Idol Winner Kicks off his first Headline tour “The Declaration Tour – 2009″ in Tallahassee, FL on February 13th

NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ — David Cook’s self titled debut CD has been certified platinum by the RIAA for sales exceeding 1 million units. American Idol Cook is set to kick off his first headline tour, “The Declaration Tour – 2009″ in Tallahassee, FL on February 13th.

Released on November 18th, 2008, David Cook (19 Recordings / RCA Records) entered the Billboard charts at #3 and the digital album charts at #1, marking the best debut from an American Idol winner since 2006. Collectively the songs from David Cook have sold over 2 million tracks and ringtones combined. The first single, “Light On,” dominated the AOL Top 40 radio chart with 8 (non consecutive) weeks at #1 and is currently Top 10 at Hot AC radio and still growing. In late September “Light On” premiered on AOL Music’s pop culture news site, PopEater.com, receiving over 1 million plays in less than a week.

Cook’s coronation single, “The Time of My Life” recently went platinum, with over one million tracks sold. “The Time of My Life” is not only the biggest single debut but the highest selling coronation single in the show’s history. “The Time of My Life” also held the #1 position at mainstream AC radio for nearly 4 months straight. Cook is the 34th “American Idol” contestant to appear on a Billboard chart.
Cook kicked off 2009 by performing for troops during a USO tour. He visited seven different bases, singing songs off his self-titled album.”

YaHoo Finance announced that DCTR has been certified Platinum SOLD

If I understand it correctly, album certification is always for copies shipped (or, if you will, sold by the label to retailers) and not for copies sold to the public. The sales for DCTR stand at ~936 (this week’s numbers pending) so it’s not at Platinum sold quite yet, but it will be soon enough.

I also think the dates for submission run from Oct 07 through Sept 08. So he wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be eligible until next year.

They actually say as much in the video, with the whole “didn’t make the cut-off fot this year’s awards”.

  • May

From what I remember both Time of My Life and Light On would have been eligible for submission. Although their chances of nomination would not have been high, I’m guessing that they had as good a chance as many of the other songs that were submitted by other artists. Dave/RCA decided not to submit them, even though they could have.

He looks very happy and relaxed in that video! I’m also liking the knit cap especially as it has replaced that awful Trilby!

David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Self Titled Debut CD is Certified Platinum by the RIAA

Yes, but it HAS been certified RIAA so it’s platinum. But I don’t know if they think I’ve ever heard or seen “Platinum sold” – it’s always Platinum Certified. They will say 1 million sold etc. The certification is different. So I don’t think there will be a point in the future when they will when 1 million do sell. So Platinum is different in that context.
