David Cook and guitarist Neal Tiemann perform “Souvenir”, a song that didn’t make the cut for last album at he Mix 92.3 “Nooner with David Cook” in New Orleans earlier this week.

Watch the video after the JUMP…

  • SashaB

I love Dave’s acoustic sets. And I love this song. Here’s Come Back to Me.I think they also did Heroes, too.

  • kathrynTX

Me too ShashaB. Maybe someday, we’ll get that Acoustic Cook record. I just love love love him…his voice, his musical sense, his writing, performing, everything. I just want more. I hope he’s truly enjoying this.

  • 2dogs

Nice guitar work. Love the acoustic performances.

kathrynTX — I do think he is enjoying this!

  • tierbee

I love, love acoustic Dave. And I love watching Neal play guitar – he’s pretty amazing.

  • tierbee

And I love how he interacts with his audience, too, he’s a goof. lol.

  • listen

    David sounds very good …

    Like the song, too.

  • weareallinnocent

Nothin’ here but LOVE for Acoustic Dave. :-)

    Thanks for the videos!

  • maturin

Damn it’s always a pleasure to hear these two go acoustic. Love the quality of Cook’s voice, love their arrangements, and Neal’s playing is fantasible.

  • 2dogs

I love how he interacts with his audience, too, he’s a goof. lol.

I love that too. It’s such a refreshing change.

  • Jolene

I think they also did Heroes, too.

Is there anywhere to see this, or listen to the audio? Don’t think I’ve heard acoustic Heroes yet, and I want to hear every acoustic version possible.

Neal’s moustache tried to distract me from his awesome guitar work, and failed!

  • katymac

    Gorgeous. In all ways, gorgeous.

  • lavender1960

Does MTV still do their unplugged show? Does MTV have any decent music programming anymore?

  • lavender1960

Cookie is just so cool that I see him as the first Idol winner/President of the United States, bwah. In around 30 years.

  • wellhesback

Jolene – Rickey’s site has links for several of the acoustic songs that Cookie and Neal performed in Houston.
    http://www.rickey.org/?p=19556

I found the Heroes from Houston by following the YouTube link.

They’re all worth it. The voice, the guitar playing – wonderful.

  • ladymadonna

Is there anywhere to see this, or listen to the audio? Don’t think I’ve heard acoustic Heroes yet, and I want to hear every acoustic version possible.

I believe these were all posted in the headines thread yesterday, but here they are again. Dave and Neal did two acoustic radio shows this past weekend, one in New Orleans and one in Houston. Here are the videos that have surfaced in addition to the Souvenir that mj posted above:

    Heroes (Mix 92.3 New Orleans)
Come Back to Me (Mix 92.3 New Orleans)
Come Back to Me and Mr. Sensitive (Mix 96.5 Houston)

  • tinawina

Cookie is just so cool that I see him as the first Idol winner/President of the United States, bwah. In around 30 years.

I’m gonna consider that post your official application to take the spot recently vacated by Kimberann. LOL.

Besides, if he were gonna be president he would have to learn the definition of the word “brevity” first! :laugh_tb:

  • colette

yay for the David Cook “unplugged” album! He can rock, of course, but he has such a great voice I’d love to hear it uncluttered and upfront. that’s what I miss from his Idol appearances. That and some great covers of great songs!

  • Ashley19

    Thank you wellhesback!
I LOVE acoustic Mr. Sensitive. Beautiful falsetto!!!

  • lavender1960

Are you telling me Obama is brief?

I don’t think anyone could fill the void left by Kimberann.

It is just that every time I watch videos of Cook, he is so laid back, unflappable, articulate, the qualities you want in a leader.

I also believe that the quality of the songs themselves are proven by how well they can be adjusted for acoustic. Let’s face it, hard to see Boom Boom Pow being done acoustically.

  • Jolene

I believe these were all posted in the headines thread yesterday, but here they are again.

Thanks, LM! I don’t follow the headlines threads daily, so no wonder I missed this. Thanks for bringing the links over.

  • tinawina

Are you telling me Obama is brief?

    :laugh_tb:

I initially read this as “Are you telling me Obama wears briefs?” Not the visual you want to have of your president. LOL.

  • tierbee

Neal’s moustache tried to distract me from his awesome guitar work, and failed!

    Pornstache FTW!

Besides, if he were gonna be president he would have to learn the definition of the word ‘brevity’ first!

But he clearly has his own definition of brevity so I’m sure there’s a t-shirt slogan somewhere in there. I mean, you have to have t-shirt slogans. His can just say “Brevity!” instead of “Yes we can!”

Or etheral? Ethereal? I’m not sure what he’s going for there either. Hehe.

But all that aside, I love these acoustic versions…

he has such a great voice I’d love to hear it uncluttered and upfront. that’s what I miss from his Idol appearances

This… maybe that’s why so much of his Idol stuff lives on in my iPod :)

  • tierbee

Oh, boy, the idea of “Boom Boom Pow” acoustic just… haha. I’m trying to imagine that..

  • Katie1

David Cook was my favorite Idol of all…”Come back to me ” is one of my favorites from him and also “always be my baby”..I will be seeing him in Sept at “The House of Blues”..I have noticed that he likes to perform in smaller venues..Anyway I have a meet and greet so I will get good pics and videos. I will post for you all to see…I know September is a while away!!!

  • lavender1960

Well you know if anyone could do an acoustic of Boom Boom Pow Cook could do it, maybe Allen?

  • Keel

Let’s face it, hard to see Boom Boom Pow being done acoustically.

But if anyone can arrange it so it’s listenable and compelling, that would be Cook. (I’ve been told that my application as fan#1 is in the pile (hopefully not the round one), so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.)

  • carolinacharms

David Cook has reverted to his pre-Idol “look” of late: Sloppy, homely, semi-disgusting.

  • kw

JMO but he’s far from “sloppy, homely, or semi-disgusting”. On the contrary, he looks like he is enjoying himself, in a casual sort of way.

  • wellhesback

Oh, goodness, carolinacharms. Mileages certainly do vary. though everyone certainly can have their opinion, Luckily for David there are plenty of folks who, um, find him QUITE attractive.

  • maturin

    Puttin’ the charm in carolina.

One thing I like about Cook is he’s so good-humored. A lot of us would get (kinda rightfully) peeved if a cell-phone went off when we were starting a talk or some kinda presentation. He just cracks up and thanks them for buying one of his ringtones. Hee.

  • tinawina

David Cook has reverted to his pre-Idol ‘look’ of late: Sloppy, homely, semi-disgusting.

I’m thinking as long as he keeps standing next to Neal with that pornstache, he’ll look great by comparison. Dude looks like he’s about to hit the meth lab in his double wide. LOL

  • hypertwink

There ar edats when I like Souvenir and days that I don’t. This happens to be the former. Wonderful.

  • tierbee

David Cook has reverted to his pre-Idol ‘look’ of late: Sloppy, homely, semi-disgusting.

I much prefer “sloppy, homely, semi-disgusting” David to the David with guyliner, vests and chains, hehe. He looks like a normal 26 year old guy… I find him quite adorable :) and far from homely but… yeah, mileage and all that. Actually I found him when I got to see him up close (oh happy day) to be even more handsome in person, but man I had forgotten (conveniently) how young he is. And I’ve said before but his skin… it’s not fair. Guys don’t need skin like that. Lovely :)

Besides, even if he wasn’t hot and even though I don’t think Neal is hot (though disarmingly and oddly cute sometimes, I must admit)… I could happily close my eyes and listen to that voice and the guitar and the looks wouldn’t matter a whit.

AcousticDave is distracting. I don’t have time for AcousticDave right now but… have to listen… one more time.

(BTW, why do I even find flip flops cute on this guy? WTF?)

  • tierbee

And let me add that by vests I don’t mean the current wearing of vests when he’s… ExecuDave (is that what they call it on DCO? Something cute like that)… but the initial outfit on the tour last year which was just a bit too much :)

  • leome

Cookie is just so cool that I see him as the first Idol winner/President of the United States, bwah. In around 30 years.

Would that make Neal the first First Gentleman?

I love when David breaks into acoustic mode. I like the full band version of this song but acoustic also works fine.

His look these days is the same as a year ago, jeans, shirt and fedora, but now when he goes on stage he doesn’t wear the pirate pants. That’s the main difference.

  • Jolene

I’m thinking as long as he keeps standing next to Neal with that pornstache, he’ll look great by comparison.

    LOL and very true.

Love the “look” commentary, always. He has the hat on, so we can’t have hair commentary this time around, and that’s a true shame.

Souvenir sounds great acoustic. I really want to hear the recording they did of this…

My favorite acoustic song of late is Mr. Sensitive. Go figure. I didn’t even like that song upon first listen of DCTR, and then it grew on me as I watched it live, so I stopped skipping it on the record, and before I know it, its hook is totally stuck in my head. It’s surprisingly catchy. And now we’ve got it acoustic, with all that cool guitar work? Love!

Acoustic CBTM is also surprisingly beautiful. I like the NO version better than the Houston one– too bad it’s partial. And Heroes– really want the whole thing on that too!

Has DC done any acoustic concerts for the Declaration Tour? I know he did some acoustic Christmas radio shows, but I don’t think he’s done a full show acoustic. I feel like he has the repertoire to do 12 songs acoustic now, right? Heck, throw in Truth, Better Never Than Late/Optimistic to a Fault, and Til I’m Blue and I can die happy :) .

  • leome

My favorite acoustic song of late is Mr. Sensitive. Go figure.

I don’t know about you, but I love when he goes higher. And that’s one of the reasons acoustic Mr. Sensitive is so pretty.

  • sleepyinsomniac

The Cookistas have a compilation of the videos and the mp3s from the acoustic performances on http://cookistangmiron.wordpress.com

I am in love with the acoustic Mr. Sensitive, the falsetto is wonderfully done and it really shows David’s versatility.

I’m also really starting to wonder what Souvenir will be used for.

  • tierbee

OK, I finally had time to listen to Mr. Sensitive acoustic… wow! Love! Love the voice, and had to watch it again so I could focus on Neal’s guitar playing which was just gorgeous.

Sigh. David Cook is bad for my productivity.

  • kimberann

    I can’t believe I ever liked him. :tongue_rolleye_ee:

  • k4dc

Acoustic Dave FTW!! Concert Dave really rocks, but it’s in these acoustic gigs that I really remember what a beautiful, compelling voice he has. And that acoustic Mr. Sensitive is absolutely gorgeous. I had no idea it could be done acoustically, but he certainly makes it work. And the guitar work is fabulous.

I’ll be throwing my application in the pile for #1 fan also. :)

  • tierbee

k4dc, you have to beat me to it, I’m putting my #1 fan application on a glittery sign and bringing it to the Birchmere show in a couple weeks… Right to the boss, I’m going right to the boss!

    Tee hee.

  • tierbee

Watched Heroes acoustic too – I’m a little slow, but I get there. That was pretty cool!

  • k4dc

tierbee, I’m going to beat you to it…I’ll be at the Sioux City show next Friday! Hee hee.

  • Tess

I’ve been trying for 18 months to try and love something about David Cook, and I continue to fail. Don’t get me wrong…I like the guy, think he has a great heart and is a wonderful, caring individual who seems to love and honor what he is doing. But, since season 7 finished I haven’t been able to watch a full video or listen to a full song or make it through a full interview.

I try and try. I don’t dislike him…I just can’t get into him as a performer. There is always something that just doesn’t connect and I can’t figure out what it is. (and I hate the hats he wears….and the fact that he does dress like a salvation army refugee).

I wish him all the best and I hope he has a successful career because he seems to be a super guy…just not my type, I guess.

  • tierbee

Oh no! And I can’t afford to fly out there! Noooooo! A pox on your sign! (But not a contagious to people pox because I’m not mean like that).

  • tierbee

.and the fact that he does dress like a salvation army refugee).

Hey, his t-shirts are schmancy – they were at one point on DCO tracking them down and they are like… Guess and stuff :)

Though I suppose you can find a Guess shirt at the Salvation Army, hehe. I believe they’d tracked down some of his jeans too and they were also schmancy.

Though I guess since I only shop at Kohl’s and Target anything’s gonna seem pricey to me!

Not everyone is going to like him – same with any artist (actor, whatever). My mom floves Clay Aiken and I couldn’t stand him. But he clearly has a lot of fans. Now don’t anyone throw tomatoes at me if you’re a Clay fan, ok? :)

  • k4dc

Don’t feel bad, Tess. I don’t get the Adam love, as hard as I try. To each his own!

  • sma11ie

But, since season 7 finished I haven’t been able to watch a full video or listen to a full song or make it through a full interview.

Hey, to each their own, ya know? Tastes vary, that’s what makes the world go round heh. I’m curious though, you say you like him as an individual, but haven’t been able to make it through a full interview. so what made you develop the opinion that he seems to be a caring individual that honors what he does, etc.?

Also, not trying to “convert” you or anything, but since you seem to like him as a person, here’s short but great interview with some interesting questions that I don’t think has been posted here yet, and hopefully you will be able to get through:

    David Cook exposed

  • dcisluv

You don’t get street cred as a rocker looking all pretty. Neil is not attractive to me, but David can wear any old ratty thing he wants and he’ll still be adorable to me.

I can not WAIT to go listen to Mr. Sensitive acoustic!

  • tierbee

sma11ie, I don’t know how I missed that David Cook exposed interview, loved it. I thought I caught everything over at DCO… I must’ve been out of town or something the day someone posted it! I love listening to him talk :) .

Now back to listening to Mr. Sensitive acoustic again because I just love it.

More please! Acoustic album would be fabulous, thanks.

  • templeton

That was awesome. Can’t wait until I can see him in concert. To each their own, but I think he looks adorable. Thanks to ladymadonna for the links to the other accoustic performances.

  • Jolene

Don’t feel bad, Tess. I don’t get the Adam love, as hard as I try. To each his own!

To each his own indeed. I get the Adam love, I just don’t share it, meaning I get what people like about him, but it does nothing for me. Sometimes you just don’t connect, and if you have to make attempts, try to find reasons to like someone, or search for the connection, it’s probably a waste of time. You either feel it or you don’t.
If I don’t like the music, or the person, or something, I get bored so fast… There’s just no motivation to keep track. Something has to make you care enough to come back over and over again.
With David, there’s plenty there that keeps me coming back, appearantly. I wouldn’t have believed I’d still be following his career over a year after Idol ended.

  • lavender1960

Tierbee, you are not wrong, it costs a lot of money to look that “sloppy” – I know because the guys in INXS favoured that jeans and funky T shirt look for their last tour which may indeed be their last tour. The leathers would come out occasionally but not much, and those Ed Hardy T Shirts and Morphine Generation T shirts and jeans, Antik Denim, couple of other lines that rockers favour are not cheap. Now JD Fortune used to favour just plain black T shirts with a word or slogan on them but he’d be wearing them with $1000 jeans. The one slogan was very very naughty, surprised he didn’t get arrested in the more conservative areas of the US, but Meal Ticket and Slut were faves of the fans.

What I have always liked about INXS though is they have changed their looks and fashions over the decades almost as much as Madonna has and for guys that is rare. I mean Neil Young ain’t changed a thing. But their clothes seemed to match the music they were making at the time. Early metrosexuals.

  • leome

With David, there’s plenty there that keeps me coming back, appearantly. I wouldn’t have believed I’d still be following his career over a year after Idol ended.

Me neither. It was supposed to be just an idol thing and go away!
I don’t think one shoukd try to like someone. If we don’t we don’t, I don’t get the “try”.

Here is a fantastic new interview with David. It’s fun to read and has some new questions, and there’s more brevity for everyone.

  • Jolene

It’s fun to read and has some new questions, and there’s more brevity for everyone.

Thanks for the link. There can never be enough brevity. Off to read!

  • 123abc456

Leome thanks for that interview it was fantastic. And I absolutely love the Acoustic Souvenir.

  • Jolene

    OK, that interview was hilarious.
    This:

AARON KEKER: Okay. I am better at Wii Bowling than I am at real bowling

Seriously the most random segue I’ve ever seen. Bwah!

We talked about like a deluxe version of the record. We talked about; you know putting out a live record. We talked a lot of different angles.

Deluxe version with unreleased bonus tracks please???
I know a lot of people are saying everything sounds better live and want a live album, but I’d take unheard tracks over existing tracks recorded live… Well, I’d take anything I’m given, but you get my drift.

I know we’re on the road until the end of the year. So the jury is out on what to do right now.

I really really hope we’ll at least get a new single before the end of the year. I think and hope David’s only talking about the aspect of recording another album, and not about everything being on hold until the tour is over…

Oh, just noticed you can listen to the audio through the link at the bottom of page.

  • tierbee

OK, loved that interview – leome, thanks for bringing that over!

I couldn’t help but notice this (and think of my BREVITY! t-shirt)…

“I also think it’s a testament to kind of the brevity and reach of a show like American Idol.”

David Cook, if you’re lurking, please tell us your definition of brevity because I know you have one :)

Oh, just noticed you can listen to the audio through the link at the bottom of page.

Jolene, am I just really cranky tonight or is the interviewer guy… the voice… I am trying so hard to listen for David’s voice but… I can’t take it!

  • FolkFan

Thanks for posting, MJ! I do love AcousticDave, and these are some really great new versions of Souvenir, MrS, and CBTM.

  • SybilTrelawney

Acoustic!Dave FTW. His voice is so rich, it’s really beautiful accompanied only by guitar. The songs are infused with even more emotion.

As for his fashion sense these days, yeah, I’m not crazy about the hats (although the trilby beats the beanie by a mile), and some of the tees are a little too late period grunge for me. And yeah, the hair is reverting back to the Locktopus. But he’s a beautiful man, IMO, and even more important for purposes of his career, a fantastic singer, an evolving and ever improving songwriter, smart, funny and an all-round nice guy who has great stage presence.

Not that I’m a fan or anything.

  • tinawina

David Cook, if you’re lurking, please tell us your definition of brevity because I know you have one :)

At this point, I think he does it on purpose! Its been a running joke in fandom for too long for him not to know all about it.

  • ladymadonna

At this point, I think he does it on purpose! Its been a running joke in fandom for too long for him not to know all about it.

Heh. I tend to agree with this. He uses it way too often and in too many different contexts not to be fucking with the fans who gave him shit for it at the beginning.

But be they intentional or completely inadvertent, I love those one or two malapropisms that he throws around. Definitely part of his charm for me.

  • tierbee

But be they intentional or completely inadvertent, I love those one or two malapropisms that he throws around. Definitely part of his charm for me.

I do, too. I think they are adorable, hehe.

You know, I was thinking, too… never would’ve guessed that I’d still be following someone this closely this long after Idol. I had people I liked every season, and I generally bought their albums but… not the… minutiae? And definitely have never gone to so many shows (going on #3, wish I could do more) for one artist.

Ah, well. There have been some crappy stuff going on recently in real life and Cookie has been one seriously fantastic diversion PLUS he got me and my son out to do a 5K for charity and we raised a bunch of bucks for that (and plan to do so again next year, Cookie or no) so that’s all good stuff. Find your happy where you can find it!

  • lydia

Heh, raises hand. I’m one of the great lurking fandom, who enjoys other Idols, but is still following the details of DC’s career on a daily basis. Can’t believe I still hang out here and DCO 18 months later. Love MJ’s for the reality check–not everyone thinks David Cook is the greatest Idol that ever lived–to me he just gets better and better.

Keeps repeating “I am not a fantard! I am not a fantard!”

  • tierbee

Keeps repeating ‘I am not a fantard! I am not a fantard!’

Hehe, I just gave up and let my husband call me a Cooktard. I felt… free… admitting it. LOL!

  • daenarys

Thanks MJ and y’all who put up those acoustic links. I think any song off his record is pretty with just an acoustic guitar. Barbasol would be brilliant in a slower moodier key (not that it needs to be any more awesome!)…..oh where I’ve been sold and spun again….

I liked that moment someone’s cellphone went off too, his reaction to just crack up, stop and deal with it – it’s these sort of random spontaneous things that happen in his interviews and public appearances that kind of show his personality – great sense of humour, down to earth, and kind.

I’m sorry some find him sloppy and disgusting. I must be sloppy and disgusting myself coz I love that whole combo of comfy faded T’s, worn jeans and flip-flops, that’s my whole summer look. I hope he keeps being sloppy and disgusting some more. Yum. LOL

  • daenarys

Okay I just listened to that acoustic Mr Sensitive - my new fave acoustic Cookie evah!

Did I mention that he’s funny too? He is. Funny. Love him.

  • ShariG

David Cook is my all time favorite Idol. Just love him as a performer and as a person, from what I know about him. One of the smartest things he did, in my estimation, is to surround himself with a guys in his band that he counts as great friends. They obviously like and respect each other and I think that comes across to the audience. I’m not a real hard rock person, so prefer some of his softer songs like Lie, Avalanche, and Permanent. I love this Souvenir song and wonder if he is promoting it for the new album that they are working on. I would love to see it happen. I got to see him in Virginia Beach and talk to him a minute or so before the show while he was tossing a football around with Kyle before the show. As always he is the most down to earth, basically nice guy you would ever want to meet. Did I mention that I am a David Cook fan for life??

  • k4dc

I felt like I hit a DC mp3 gold mine yesterday, what with the acoustic versions of Mr. Sensitive, Souvenir and Come Back to Me that I found here…but in one of my DC Internet meanderings yesterday, I stumbled across demo versions of Let Go, Porcelain and The Truth. Just slightly different than the album versions, but I’ll take any Cookie crumbs I can get my hands on!

  • Jolene

    ^^ OMG, links please?
I have a vague recollection of the site in which those MP3s originated, but I couldn’t find a downloadable version of them back then, and they were embedded in the site’s player.

  • consumedbywords
  • Jolene

    THANK YOU! :jittery_tb: :clap_tb:

  • tierbee

    Ohh, I love The Truth!!

  • EmmaJK

OMG, adding my thanks to the demo links above! I also had a vague awareness that these existed, but no clue how to find them. New (well, kinda, sorta) Cookie crumbs!!

    Now off to listen :D

  • Ashley19

Thank you so much consumedbywords! I love The Truth and Let Go!
