True, maturin. Plus, I love that AI (which sometimes gets trashed for its music sensibilities) has made her music more known. More people learning of Eva Cassidy = good.

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a small thing, but I think it drops another briquet on the glow of Archuleta admiration in this jaded, Cooktard heart.

Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s face it, interviewers often ask those questions as a sort of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“here, make yourself look cool and make it easier for our audience to get you by comparing yourself to someone famous.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ And goofy, eager young Idol contestants usually answer something like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I love Justin Timberlake, I hope heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll appear on my record!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , and you canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really blame them for trying.

But Archie doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t do either. Just answers the question sincerely, with the name of someone whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a) not famous b) not alive anymore. He doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get anything out of it, in this cynical world. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just neat.

well said....i think archie has a deeper understanding and appreciation for music than most give him credit for.

I also learned about the late Eva Cassidy while living in the Washington, DC area, to which she had ties. She's one of those sort of "secret joy" musicians, who a lot of people find out about by CDs passing from hand to hand and someone saying "you have to listen to this."

I think that if you listen to the intro to Eva Cassidy's live CD, she is introduced as EV-uh Cassidy.

I kind of randomly found out about her when in DC, where she was from. I think that there may be some likely unfounded belief among American Idol watchers that EVERYONE who likes AI knows about her, because a couple of the performances about which everyone raves either were either expressly tied to her work or else people have drawn the conclusion that they were tied to her---namely, Kat McPhee's Over the Rainbow and David A's Imagine.

Someone mentioned maybe Beth was teary because Adam might be worse. That might be but she is not Adam's mother. David and Andrew are Adam's half brothers. Speaking of that I think David looks more like his dad and sometimes I see a resemblence between him and Adam. His dad didn't seem to get a lot of press altho he attended some of the shows and I read he was always active in David's life. If the parents behave kids can come out of divorce without too many scars. His parents seem to have done a pretty good job.

Was Eva Cassidy's name really pronounced EV-uh, the way Archie said it? I've known a few people with the name Eva, with most pronounced EE-vuh and a few called AY-vuh, but never an EV-uh. Like the difference among Evil, April and Ever. Or Little Eva, Eva Gabor and Evumeimei Dingzai.

Just curious. I've heard of Eva Cassidy, but never heard her name pronounced, I guess. If she really was plain old EE-vuh like most of the others, I can see why calling her EV-uh would sound like "David" to someone who didn't know Archie very well.

I never did quite get what that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“beautiful girlsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ line had to do with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“stand by meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and it didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really fit in Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s version either. IMHO.

I think the base line of Sean Kingston's beautiful girls is a sample from Stand By Me.

Slightly OT but David A was the one who brought it up. LOL. Eva Cassidy was one of the best artists of her time. Her version of Tennessee Waltz will break your heart. She also did a wonderful version of Sting's Fields of Gold. In her final public performance she did What A Wonderful World and it is just amazing. My favorite of hers is Songbird though.

Finally, I've been ready for a new Cook single since a couple of weeks ago. Here's hoping they release one sometime soon.

I watched the Nightline youtube videos the other night. Beautifully done and a wonderful tribute to Eva. I can't listen to Fields of Gold, it just slays me. Well when I need a good cleansing cry, then I can listen, otherwise, I just can't.

Tip: When comments disappear, it's because I've deleted them.

Keep your comments focused on the topic. Disagree, but without finger-wagging or chastising your fellow posters.

Cut us a wee bit of slack -- those of us who've never heard of Eva Cassidy. I -- like the hosts -- was like "who?" She is WAY under the radar.

So I went to you tube and got schooled.

Truly an amazing woman. Something very special about her. "Fields of Gold" made me cry. I'll be adding her to my music collection very quickly. Based on the comments on you tube, others will be doing the same as well and all because of Pork Chop (DA).

If you haven't heard her, go listen to her. It will sadden you that she has made all the music she'll ever make, but you'll be blessed to have heard her voice.

I tried to do it. I really did. I hovered over the video with my mouse pointer, and I wanted to click it. Then I heard cackling and visions of women acting like assholes danced before my eyes and then there was more cackling, and Elizabeth was staring at me because I'm pretty sure she knew I was a democrat and she was trying to make me have an aneurysm with the power of her mind. The room just really felt like it was getting smaller and maybe it was even starting to spin and I'm pretty sure had I clicked the video, my entire house would've imploded.

I love you, David Cook, but I love myself more. Sorry, man.

Also, I mightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve misheard, but it seemed like Sherri thought Archie said David Cassidy rather than Eva Cassidy. Kinda cracked me up in an otherwise boring-as-hell interview.

I heard that too, and it totally cracked me up. :biggrin_wp:
