David Cook wished Kansas City, MO a Happy Holiday in a taped message on Good Morning America this morning.

David’s greeting was part of the big reveal of the GMA Christmas window representing Middle America. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver was on hand to draw back the curtain on the display, featuring scenes from David’s hometown, Kansas City.

Watch the video, after the JUMP…

Rickey has the Rockefeller Treelighting vid. DC cookified “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” http://www.rickey.org/?p=10418

  • FolkFan

Still haven’t seen the Have Yourself…. performance, but Happy Christmas (War Is Over) was lovely.

  • Jolene

I want to hear the John Lennon one! Can’t believe we’re getting two new Cookifications today.

  • hypertwink

    I haven’t seen that yet. I’m excited…*now waits*

p.s. I heard that SYTYCD Canada used Permanent as the music for a contemporary dance number by Nico (yay, hotass!) and Allie.

ETA: In my excitement over Nico…um, to post, I didn’t read dancin below. D’oh!

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

ok maybe not the right place for this but i couldnt find the right place

so you think yo can dance canada .. last competition show tonite and the two best dancers on it danced to PERMANENT by david cook they had eveyrone in tears

    it was awesome

  • leome

Both were really lovely and beautiful.

Btw, it was posted in a DC board that Permanent was used in So You Think You Can Dance Canada. If anyone’s still in time to check it…

  • FolkFan

I love that they announced that Happy Christmas was DC’s own arrangement, and it was lovely and so well-performed by DC and Neal.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was also lovely, but I think that I preferred Happy Christmas, which I would not have guessed.

And, yeah, I want to see that dance….

  • leome

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was also lovely, but I think that I preferred Happy Christmas, which I would not have guessed.

Me too. I think he made Happy Christmas more emotional, plus Neal’s touch with the guitar was quite cool.

Never in a million years would I have believed I would say the following: I want a David Cook Christmas album.

  • leome

I didn’t really catch it at first, but after singing he says “Come Home Soon”
I think it was a nice thing to say.

  • Jolene

Never in a million years would I have believed I would say the following: I want a David Cook Christmas album.

    Seconded.

  • Sarah

David and Neal did great, loved Neal’s guitar playing. And it was fun that at the end they stood right behind Mayor Bloomberg during the tree lighting.

  • cookcricket

I haven’t watched/heard “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” yet, but I absolutely loved “Happy Christmas”. I hope someone caught it and can make a mp3 download since we don’t have a DC Christmas Album(Record) yet. ^

The guitar part by Neal was FTW!

  • FolkFan

Neal’s guitar was the choir of children. What a great arrangement.

  • jan

There are mp3 downloads of both songs over at Rickeys.

  • smartcookie

That was gorgeous. When we do get video so we can rewatch?

  • hypertwink

    I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really catch it at first, but after singing he says à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Come Home Soonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I think it was a nice thing to say.

This coupled with his position on Prop 8, he’s kinda a political ninja.

  • leome

First time I listened to it (it was at Rickey’s) I actually thought there were children singing the War Is Over part. Neal is really good! They should have zoomed him more.

    heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s kinda a political ninja.

I think so too. Subtle… for now.

  • Jolene

When we do get video so we can rewatch?

I’m guessing after the Grammy nominations liveblogging ends.

PS – I must have listened to Happy Christmas about 20 times by now. I flove it. Damn, that’s pretty.

  • KarenLE67

I’m almost without words, what David and Neal did was so, so gorgeous and moving.

Anyone here actually know anything about guitar technique? I’m thinking Neal has talent and taste and range beyond his years. Was he doing some kind of Spanish classical technique to make that kids choir part?

I’m thinking they do not pull the camera in on him because of his lip piercings??? Did he have them in? Honestly, what do people expect a 25yo lead rock guitar player to look like these days? Of course he’s covered in tats and piercings. I’d be worried if he weren’t.

Also really liked Jamie Foxx, Tony Bennett, and Harry Connick. Did not like at all Faith Hill or Beyonce. And hello, that dress down to her belly button while singing about Mary?! And I’m not even religious.

Now, someone talk to me about Miley and the JoBros. Was this a good or bad night for Miley? Because she was not singing. And those poor adult women having to make a living by actually singing behind her. Honestly. Was the song the JBs did something that already existed, or something of their own? They were definitely better than MC. (Mostly I’m glad I do not have a tween girl. For now at least, my 8yo son is happy to listen to anything I do, making him a Cookie.)

  • Mia

Political Ninja. I love that term. I see many more years of pride, anxiety and heartburn ahead as a David Cook fan but you know I wouldn’t have it any other way. Bless DC’s earnest little soul !

  • Michelle

Just beautiful. Neither song were favorites of mine before, but the Cookified versions are A-plus . I love the arrangement on Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and the accompaniment by Neal on Happy Christmas.

I want a David Cook Christmas album.

Yes! Acoustical Christmas w/DC, please and thank you :)

Rickey.org has video and mp3 up (mp3 is downloadable too).

  • cookcricket

In case you don’t know, “Happy Christmas” vid is on the front page of mj’s now.

  • cookcricket

Anyone here actually know anything about guitar technique?

My husband plays guitar and mandolin, he can play this way some, but the guitar part really sounded a lot like a mandolin. My husband does this on this “technique” on the mandolin more than guitar. (don’t know what it’s called, though)

Thanks for the heads up on the mp3.

  • ShariG

The scene was very pretty, wasn’t it? Don’t know what the others looked like, but the huge shiny ornaments with scenes from Kansas City in each one was really beautiful. Hi Cricket, Neal actually made the guitar sound a bit like a mandolin didn’t he. Such a pretty arrangement. Well, David Cook can do no wrong in my book. He always looks exactly like he should and sounds terrific. I just love the guy.

  • Squirrelly

May God Bless David Cook! He is my very favorite musician of all time (and my other favorites are Ozzy, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Def Leopard, Animals, and Fleetwood Mac).

  • cookiefan22

I keep checking to see if he has done any more christmas songs…. I’d love a Christmas Album from David Cook!!!!
    He is so talented, amazing!!!
Can’t wait for New Years Eve!!!!
