David Cook performed last night at the 97.9 WNCI Jingle Ball in Columbus, OH. Watch him perform “Permanent”, after the jump. It’s the first time he’s performed this very personal (dedicated to his brother, Adam) song live on stage

Other videos: Hunger Strike (with Andy Skib), Mr. Sensitive, Barbasol, Life on the Moon, Heroes.

  • bjames

Definitely my favorite DC song. Awesome

  • FolkFan

I really didn’t think that he’d do Permanent live, except maybe during a cancer research benefit or something like that. It was amazing.

    Another video: Heroes.

  • http://www.myspace.com/laurskaos laurskaos

LOVE how they reworked the end of Permanent adding the rest of the band in. It reminded me of the Evanescence song My Immortal, which was I belive all piano music on the album version, but then when released as a single they added in the band towards the end of the song. Perhaps they could do a similar thing with Permanent and release a “band version” as a single.

PS – Hunger Strike rocks my world!!

  • elisad

It reminded me of the Evanescence song My Immortal

You took the words out of my mouth. It is very Evanescence. Actually, very Neal, listen to MWK’s latest EP Luna Despierta that would be pretty obvious. I couldn’t get into Permanent before that dance ’cause it’s too personal and naked. Now this arrangement just killed me.

Hunger Strike, awww, MWK flashback, it has to be why David is smiling like that. Love it.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Wow. The live arrangement of “Permanent” was great. Loved the band add-in.

  • Trina

Ok don’t throw things at me, but I hated, hated the fans singing and screaming during Permanent. For Gods sake any song but that.

  • msergio

I am speechless with this video. The emotion! He is more than amazing…I am still searching for that perfect word that describes him. Any suggestions???

  • SashaB

I wouldn’t throw anything at you, Trina. I totally agree. I never dreamed we’d get a live performance of Permanant so soon (Thank you, DC). But I also had envisioned him singing soulfully and nakedly — with not an echo or pin drop to disturb from that experience. So yeah, not a fan singing along to Permanent. It was jarring and like nails being scraped down a chalkboard. Just wrong.

    Hunger Strike? O.M.G.

    That was awesome.

  • FolkFan

While I definitely agree that I’d prefer to hear Permanent without fans singing along, I can’t get too critical. I know that I’ve been to concerts before and found myself singing along when I got caught up in the moment.

  • gingerly

I thought Permanent live would make me cry, and it was breathtaking, but it was Hunger Strike that did it to me. It was the look on David’s face after he introduced Andy. The love and pure joy he emanated with that one look got me all weepy. He’s worked so hard for 10 years for this and I can’t think of a person who deserves it more.

OK, sorry to get all emotional on y’all. I’m over it…maybe.

  • Jlyn

I loved the Permanent arrangement. He seemed in great voice that night. When I listened to Hunger Strike the old MWK video was in the sidebar so I clicked on it just to compare. David was just as good, Andy sounded better now, but for some reason what really stood out to me was that they really made a good decision to go with the new drummer. (No offense to old MWK drummer guy, but new drummer guy is seriously good.)

  • bluejeans

Permanent is very nice but Hunger Strike…omg. That wailing at the end! Can. Not. Handle.

  • john_socal

    speechless…

  • FolkFan

I agree, Gingerly. His joy at introducing Andy and Neal during Hunger Strike was palpable.

  • weareallinnocent

    Exquisite~

  • GEEK4VOCAB

Okay I tried very hard not to be shallow… but I have to say it. I could not stop looking at his shoulders and arms the entire time.

    Okay, I’m done.

  • DivaE

the addition of the band also allowed him to add the extra high note (the usual long “Permanent” is G# (the third of the chord)with a passing note to A) this version let him add the high B high note (the fifth)!!!

the girls singing along with him… not good singers. truth.

thank you David for sharing this with us.

now gotta watch hunger strike- and send it to dear hubby- he LURVES that song- sings it at karaoke all the time.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

PS – will the fan girls PLEASE shut up during Permanent! For God’s Sake!!!

  • SashaB

Dang it. He looks so happy to be on stage singing with his buddies. I love it.

Yeah, we need Livehead or MJ to go videotape all of DC’s performance. Neither of you guys records and sings. Any plans to go to Jingle Balls in Atlanta, MJ?

  • lovegoodmusic

Watching David sing “Permanent” live and crying towards the end brought tears to my eyes again. The song is so tender and heart wrenching, and it deserves a quiet audience. Oh those silly fan girls!

  • BootStar

Ok donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t throw things at me, but I hated, hated the fans singing and screaming during Permanent. For Gods sake any song but that.

Not only won’t I throw things at you, I was thinking the same thing during EVERY song, but especially that one. Hey, I’m all for fans singing along, but if you sing off-key, have a little compassion on the poor fools standing next to you and dial it down. Better yet, shut up when the star is bearing his soul at the microphone.

That was just so awesome, and I have to agree that Hunger Strike was glorious. A few of us at DC=42 were discussing how we’d love to see David highlight Andy and the other EEBs when they go out on tour because as much as we love David, we flove it when he interacts with other musicians. I especially love when he sings harmony, so I have no issues if he occasionally lets somebody else sing the lead. I happen to love Andy’s voice too. YMMV, of course.

May I just add, that I am SO glad David quickly quashed that engagement rumor. If Kim’s The One for him, then more power to him, but neither one of them needs to rush into anything. And seriously, the guy’s dad was in the jewelry business; I can’t imagine David would ever pay retail for a rock, LOL!

  • cookcricket

    Trina:

Ok donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t throw things at me, but I hated, hated the fans singing and screaming during Permanent. For Gods sake any song but that.

Yeah, being there I honestly didn’t know how to respond to this song. I did yell some when the band came in at the end because it was awesome! But I agree I wanted it to be completely quiet during this performance. I even debated clapping after he was done. Honestly, what I wanted to do (which I never, ever, ever would) was to give him a huge hug after and thank him for sharing it with us.

I kinda wondered if they did “Hunger Strike” after to “lighten up” the venue some. It had to be unbelievalbe for him to be able to present Andy and Neil during this song

  • gingerly

I’m not so upset about people singing. I can hardly help but do it myself, and I can’t sing. I’m not so into the panty throwing thing though. That’s just icky.

  • IdolFanatic

Oooh…can’t wait to see these when I get home later! :)

  • IdolFanatic

Sounds like Cookie has his own share teeny bopper screaming fan girls – LOL

  • smartcookie

What a great set. Did he not perform “Declaration” or did it just not get video?

I agree with the others who think “Permanent” was just awesome done that way, with the band coming in at the end. Powerful, devastating, emotional, all that good stuff. And yeah, I’m kinda stunned he performed it at all. If only the fangirls hadn’t tried to sing along. Talk about a discordant note!

I wonder if he will do what Bonnie Raitt did when she got to “I Can’t Make You Love Me” in her concerts, and ask the audience to bring it down a notch for a quieter song. Actually, I think she told an anecdote about doing it at a place where people were floating by on innertubes drinking beer and kinda howling, and thanking us in advance for not floating by on innertubes and drinking beer and howling. It seemed to work.

He could say, “Hey, Heroes is coming up, and there are great sing-along opportunities there, so let’s wait to sing along till we get to that one, okay?”

  • Squirrelly

Geek, I did the same thing. Couldn’t take my eyes off the big shoulders and then his tiny waist. I hope he doesn’t lose any more weight. I like his little itty bitty belly, too! I don’t want him to change anything!@!!!!!

  • cookcricket

    gingerly

    OMG, ITA:

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not so into the panty throwing thing though.

I wanted to hide my face as a DC fan when this happened. Here’s to hoping that when his actual tour starts all thoughts of doing such things will be null and void.

Folkfan and gingerly, just now saw your posts on his joy during “Hunger Strike”, it was amazing!

  • Jolene

Oh man, that Permanent was devastatingly beautiful. I saw a few videos, and not all of them had the sing-a-long, so I didn’t really mind it on this one. I know sometimes a live show can sweep you off your feet and you don’t care about things like being out of pitch or if someone is filming a video right next to you.

About Hunger Strike – OMG. I don’t even have words for that one. That video sort of encapsulates all of the awesomeness of having Andy and Neal in the band, for me. The MWK version of Hunger Strike is one of very very few videos we have of David singing before Idol, and I personally treasure it. To think that after all these months of watching that video and wishing for more, we’d now get a revisit of that song, with David shifting from back-up singer to star of his own show? Just brings tears to my eyes. I hope they keep doing that song again and again, I’d like to think it was a gift to the fans who knew the MWK version.

  • leome

Ok donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t throw things at me, but I hated, hated the fans singing and screaming during Permanent.

I won’t throw anything at you, but concerts are for those that are there watching it live, not so much for those of us watching it on Youtube. I can’t blame those people, because knowing the lyrics I know I’d do exactly the same. Yeah, here at home I wish it was just him and the guys, but that’s not why the concert exists. To be attending a rock concert like this, is to feel it and let your emotions out with the music, for many people that includes singing along if they know the lyrics. It’s how it works and I just can’t criticize those people.
Maybe in an acoustic concert it can be different…

I’ll add my “me too” to the My Immortal comments. That’s exactly what I thought too. Seems like they could do a full band/radio edit version of Permanent, maybe even make it longer. I loved what they did with it. It was powerful.
David’s vocals were on fire, Hunger Strike was killer. Going to see the rest now.

Did he not perform à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Declarationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ or did it just not get video?

He did. I think this was the setlist, but I was not there, so I could be wrong

    Heroes
    Mr. Sensitive
    Declaration
    Life On The Moon
    Permanent
    Hunger Strike
    Bar-ba-Sol
    Light On

  • Lisa

David baring his soul on Permanent no words to describe. Shaving Cream is made of all kinds of win.

I hate to say one of my son’s was watching this with me. We said “Is that panties?” at the same time. I have to tell you as a mother of two men both older than David it was an extremely uncomfortable moment for me. *sigh*

  • Jolene

Okay I tried very hard not to be shallowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ but I have to say it. I could not stop looking at his shoulders and arms the entire time.

GEEK4VOCAB, shallow away, I’m right there with you.
yes, I love looking at him, nothing wrong with getting lovely visuals as a side dish to the audio main course… and YUM.

  • May

I thought the performances were just amazing and I loved the way he changed Permanent at the end. It’s a relatively short song and I think the percussion and guitars at the end definitely make it sound more complete (and actually more radio friendly if he ever decides to release it as a single). I also agree completely with the My Immortal comparison. Hunger Strike was a treat and Andy and Neal were fantastic in it.

The band gets better and better. I can’t wait to see what they can do with a song like I did it for You, which seems to be the least popular song on his album! Speaking of which, I couldn’t help but notice that the setlist was devoid of the four main ballads on his album (Avalanche, Lie, I did it for You and Come Back to Me). I really hope that he didn’t take that awful Blender review too seriouslyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦we love the ballads too!

The singing during Permanent didn’t bother me half as much as the panty twirling during Barbasol. Yes, David was amused when it was done once at an Idol concert, but I don’t see that as a green light to do it all the time. I think it might turn other potential fans offà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.not because it’s offensive but more because it’s distracting and embarrassing to watch.

Cookcricket (or anyone else at the concert), was most of the audience fans of David or were there also a lot of Staind fans there? I’m just hoping that he had the opportunity to broaden his fanbase!

  • leome

I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t help but notice that the setlist was devoid of the four main ballads on his album (Avalanche, Lie, I did it for You and Come Back to Me). I really hope that he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t take that awful Blender review too seriouslyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦we love the ballads too!

He’s doing an acoustic show this weekend, right? I expect any of those to show up there… at least Lie, but maybe one of the others too.

  • kathrynTX

Wow. I didn’t think we’d get a live performance of Permanent already either. Just wow. I kinda wish we didn’t hear the fan(s) singing in the video too, but oh well. Maybe it wasn’t so audible to everyone there like it was to us, because of the proximity of the recording to the singer(s).

I didn’t watch the Bar-ba-sol video yet. Personally, I find the panty throwing embarassing, as a fan, and I wouldn’t ever do it myself. If you want attention from Cook or the band or whomever, maybe there’s a more mature way to get it? I don’t know! I really can’t tell if David himself is amused or embarassed or both or what. I THINK he seems a little of both really.

Hunger Strike was really great. I’ve watched the other video of MWK a few times and I’ve got an mp3 that I love to listen to, for the fan reactions when Cook starts wailing as much as anything else! And I DO like Andy’s voice a lot too, bought me some To Have Heroes. All of it, I like all of it, David, Andy, Neal!!, Joey, Kyle, all of them, everything!

Thanks Kristen and mj especially. Since I can’t be everywhere at once, this is the next best thing. I don’t know how you guys do it. :bye_tb:

  • Jolene

For those who were bothered by the sing-along, here are two other videos of Permanent where I think you don’t hear as much of it, if at all: This one just popped up and also has some quality banter and the non-introduction of Hunger Strike. And This one is just awesome.

  • Layla

He sings his face OFF in Permanent…Hungerstrike fuckin awesome! Bar-ba-sol makes me want to head for the nearest pole and STRIP! LOL

  • Layla

That is one gorgeous band…DC and ALL of them. If they do a college (which they should!) tour…the girls will go crazy!

    That band effin’ RAWKS!

  • SashaB

“I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t help but notice that the setlist was devoid of the four main ballads on his album (Avalanche, Lie, I did it for You and Come Back to Me).”
    ____

Last night DC sang Permanent for the first time, that was new and rather ballady and also the Hunger Strike cover. He swapped out Lie for Permanent this time. On Monday at the Atlanta Jingle Balls, he could swap out Permanent for Come Back to Me. I don’t think he had enough time to sing all 12-14 songs off the record. I think there was also a limit on songs/time for him considering that Staind followed him. He also sang LO last night, which has gotten the most mixed reviews on the record (eg. USA today). So I don’t think DC is too influenced by mixed reviews, good or bad.

  • cookmerized

honestly, that video of permanent, i think, was the longest i have gone without taking a breath in a long time. amazing. beautiful. i just love how he shares his soul with us. thanks mj and others for bringing those to us. and congrats, mj, for the mention in the new york times today.

  • weareallinnocent

Bar-ba-sol makes me want to head for the nearest pole and STRIP! LOL

ROFLMFAO! Do yourself a favor and don’t listen to it while driving on a busy street with telephone or light poles! Could cause quite the pile up…

Seriously, I literally laugh out loud everytime I think about your quote. You go, girl. Make our David proud. :drunk_tb:

  • Jolene

Layla, just yesterday I read some old comment thread and thought I haven’t seen you here lately (maybe I just missed you though), so it made me really happy to read your comments just now!

Just checking to make sure – we still don’t have videos for Declaration of Light On, right?

  • Layla

    Hi Jolene,
I haven’t been around for a while…mad busy and I have really missed checking in! Great stuff about our David-eh?

    Weareallinnocent LOLOLOL

  • Barbariba

Ok donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t throw things at me, but I hated, hated the fans singing and screaming during Permanent. For Gods sake any song but that.

Trina, I won’t be throwing anything at you. However I can’t say the same thing about whoever was singing along and all the screaming that was going on. That is just so wrong for THIS! song.

  • dreamr

Ok donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t throw things at me, but I hated, hated the fans singing and screaming during Permanent. For Gods sake any song but that.

I was thinking the same thing! I just said practically the same exact thing to my friend on MSN. I was like “I want to slap the people singing along! Gah! You don’t sing along to THAT song!” lol

    It was beautiful nonetheless.

  • Jolene

Is it true that David said the reason he was singing Permanent was because his dad was there? Because if that was the case, I assume we won’t get to hear it in the other live shows until his own tour starts next year. It did surprise me that he chose to premiere that song live at an event like this, but I really loved the live version. Possibly even more than the album version.

Layla, don’t you just hate it when real life gets in the way of our David Cook time? LOL

  • cookcricket

Cookcricket (or anyone else at the concert), was most of the audience fans of David or were there also a lot of Staind fans there? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just hoping that he had the opportunity to broaden his fanbase!

I stayed for a few Staind songs. Hubby had to get up early for work this morning. IMO, it was louder (crowd wise) for DC than Staind (could be wrong there), but there were a lot of Staind fans there. One Staind fan next to me (whose girlfriend was both a Cook and Staind fan), seemed to really like DC’s set.

I also agree with the poster who said DC probably performed “Permanent” instead of any other ballady type songs. I wish he could have just done the entire album and a few more covers. Hee! This Jingle Ball had two nights and this was the Rock night, another reason most ballads were left out.

ETA: Jolene, right before he sang “Permanent” he said, “So my dad’s here tonight, and we’ve never performed this song live.” So, I’m pretty sure this is why he decided to sing it last night. Right away we knew what is would be. I hope he does do it for others.

  • ShariG

Interesting comments about the fans singing along to Permanent. It doesn’t really bother me because I think he sees it as supportive that people already know the words to songs that have not been released as singles and aren’t on the radio so people are learning them from downloads and purchased CDs, or watching them on the toob. I love the song and it seems almost sacred to me and David sings it with such intensity and emotion, but the ones singing along are doing it to honor David, I think, so it doesn’t bother me. I was surprised that they did this one in concert, but was glad. Maybe there is a change he will do it in concert when he comes to Chicagoland at some point in time.

  • sma11ie

Thanks everyone for the links! Wow, just WOW… no words. The tour can’t come soon enough. Beyond jealous of those who got to go!

One more question for cookcricket (if you’re still around), did that DC painting look as weird in person up on the stage as it does in some of the youtube videos? I checked out the interview from the WNCI site and I mean, it’s incredibly sweet of the fan who painted it, but it’s a little weird sitting there, no? And I don’t want to be mean, cuz I sure as hell don’t have that kind of talent, but it doesn’t even really look like DC. I wracked my brain for a while and FINALLY figured out who it looks like– Xtina’s husband, Jordan Bratman! Right?

  • Keel

smallie, on another Cook forum, the painting was discussed and people remarked that the painting made DC look like The Black Messiah. Hard to imagine DC as a black man AND Jesus Christ to boot, but there you go. lol

  • Jolene

smallie, on another Cook forum, the painting was discussed and people remarked that the painting made DC look like The Black Messiah. Hard to imagine DC as a black man AND Jesus Christ to boot, but there you go. lol

    OMG, it totally does! LMAO

I mean, I sure can’t paint like that and it was awesome that a fan (IIRC it was a male fan, to boot) took the time to make it, but you sort of have to wonder what is David supposed to do with it. He’s hardly vain enough to put a picture of himself on his wall. I actually think his idea of making Andrew hang it in his room is all sorts of snarky awesome. LOL

  • cookcricket

Sorry smallie, I can’t answer that question. I didn’t go the the M&G. I only saw the painting the WNCI website interview.

  • smartcookie

Maybe Cook can stick the painting in the attic and it can get old, fat, wrinkly and bald while the real boy stays pretty and 25. Just a suggestion.

  • sue

I freaking love Barbasol, geezzz…that was incredible.

  • sma11ie

I actually saw the painting on the stage in one of the vids– and I think the WNCI liveblog mentioned it too, but haha, actually you answered my question. Since you didn’t even notice it, I can only assume it couldn’t have been noticeable enough to be weird for the audience. Which is good =).

I mean, what’s DC supposed to do with this a giant painting of himself? I’m all about DC inspiring fans to exercise their creativity in various ways, but fan art mostly makes me chuckle… I dunno, I just get the feeling it must be weird/awkward for DC to get them.

But then again, DC fans are and will remain a devoted bunch, and I refuse to be worried about that. In fact, I think that’s a very good thing. I was very amused with the creative energy some fans put towards some of those LO challenge videos. And you know, John Mayer recently proposed a holiday cake baking challenge to his fans on his blog, and his fans responded in force. JM posted a bunch of the pictures they sent in and some of those cakes were truly impressive. I dunno, but something about the way the JM fans embraced his cake challenge and went all out kind of reminded me of the LO challenge. JM said something in his blog where he posted these cake pics, that sounded very DC: “Pretty amazing stuff. Again, to all cake-makers, your submissions are breathtaking. Lots of people have seen these cakes and their response is always the same. “You’ve got some FANS!!” Yes,…yes I do.”

So yeah, maybe it’s a tenuous connection, but I’m kind of a big JM fan, so I like the comparison :) . I guess this is my longwinded way (in case anyone’s still around) of addressing all the talk about DC breaking free from the stigma of crazy lady fans (what with the panties and such), but you know, I think it’ll be just fine. JMHO :)

  • cookcricket

Wow! Really? It was on stage? I was too busy watching DC and the band to notice anything else. Of course I was about 5 rows (if you can call it that with standing) back from the stage and I’m short so I had tall peeps to look around to catch every bit of them I could. So huh, now I’m wondering if others saw it… LOL!
I think it’s cool that he put it on stage, kind of endearing to the guy who took the time to do it. I’d love to be a fly on the wall to find out where it ends up. lol, but then I’d probably be distacted again being a fangirly and all…

I agree smallie, I do think DC will endure the “crazy lady” fans. He just knows how to handle… well, everything… it seems. He’s here to stay, IMO.

I like your post on JM because though I don’t understand why my friends don’t lurve DC the way I do, we’d all love to go to a concert together and JM would probably be the best, across the board, pick.

Okay, it’s late, but in some ways I’m still flyin’ high from last night, or two nights ago, or whatever…

  • shell29

Bar-ba-sol, Permanent, and Hunger Strike…wow. Love DC and the band.

  • David_Cook_Rocks

Okay, I haven’t read through this entire thread yet but need to respond. I’m glad you found my videos of Heroes, Hunger Strike, Permanent, and Bar-Ba-Sol. The other 4 songs are currently uploading. I didn’t get back from Columbus until late tonight so just trying to catch up now.

THAT WAS NOT ME SINGING ALONG ON PERMANENT AND I SERIOUSLY WANTED TO PUNCH THE GIRLS IN FRONT OF ME. There was a group of 6 annoying teens in the front row and I was right behind them. We stood outside for over 6 hours before the show to get a great spot but they were already there when we got into the venue. They got M&G passes because their dad knows someone at the radio station. I asked them several times to please tone it down. I would never disrespect David in that way, knowing how much this song means to him. I was very disappointed because I wanted a clear MP3. I usually never sing along with the videos I record… unless it’s in a section David wants us to sing like in Heroes and Light On. I know I am a horrible singer and would not ruin the video for others.

My other 4 videos should be done soon (it’s been 5 hours). They’ll be posted here once they’re done. http://www.youtube.com/user/Kristen8108

Check out the end of Light On. He wore the reindeer antlers off stage that we threw up to him. :biggrin_wp:

I have lots of pictures here.
    http://s45.photobucket.com/albums/f87/Kristen8108/David Cook – Columbus/
Half our group left immediately after David’s set to scope out the area by the buses. The annoying girls left, too. So we had the front row but then I got a call from one of the girls outside. I couldn’t really understand what she was saying since it was so loud so we just decided to leave. We heard Staind from outside though (plus I’ve seen themk twice before). We met everyone but Neal outside. He didn’t come out for some reason which was sad because I had a birthay present for him! I didn’t get close enough to get a picture with David but he autographed my sign and I handed a birthday present up to him. I got pictures with Joey, Andy, and Kyle.

  • David_Cook_Rocks

ETA: Jolene, right before he sang à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Permanentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ he said, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“So my dadà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s here tonight, and weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never performed this song live.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ So, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m pretty sure this is why he decided to sing it last night. Right away we knew what is would be. I hope he does do it for others.

We asked Joey if they were going to do an acoustic version of Permanent in Orlando and he said yes.

  • elisad

We asked Joey if they were going to do an acoustic version of Permanent in Orlando and he said yes.

That’s nice to know, and it also means the whole band will be there for the acoustic show~ Right?

    And thanks for you videos.

  • Jolene

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nice to know, and it also means the whole band will be there for the acoustic show~ Right?

But… What would the rest of the band do at an acoustic show?

I really really hope we get videos from that one, because that is sure to be quite different than any other show David will do for a while.

  • Layla

Just had to watch those videos again…Hunger Strike should definately be on the 2nd album…it really is just awesome- DC and Andy sound so great together.

Whomever was responsible for getting these guys to form a band with DC deserves the highest of praise. Young easy-on-the-eyes and immensely talented. They seem to thrive on singing live and give off the vibe of being so into the music. They really are doing what they love.

    Yeps. Love.them.

  • Jolene

Kristen, thank you so much for the videos!!! You’re the only one who recorded Declaration and Light On, as far as I saw, and both were really really good. Annoying teens aside, all of your videos were just spectacular. Thank you for bringing the experience back for those who couldn’t be there themselves.

Watching Hunger Strike makes me wish DC was making music with a little more edge. I know that would be a dumb thing to do now… so I guess I’ll wait.
He sounds amazing on those last couple of lines of HS.

I just miss the darker stuff, that sad Axium vibe, the Creep cover.
Loved the revised ending for Permanent with the band.

YellowClouds, I TOTALLY agree with you. His music is a little too safe for now. I want something edgier. I have faith that he would get there though. I don’t think he had TIME to experiment this time round.

  • elisad

Butà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ What would the rest of the band do at an acoustic show?

Aw, LOL, I donno, sitting there for people to look at…

Oh, I hope we actually see David perform Creep one day, although the recording is perfect. Maybe that will happen soon, Hunger Strike was a nice surprise. I’d love if he goes other direction in the future, but not back to Axium stuff. Been there, done that.

  • Jolene

I love the Axium stuff. Blindsided is one of my all time favorite albums by anybody, but yeah, I think David needs to move forward, not backwards. I would love to hear him do one of those songs live, though, but I want something from Analog Heart live even more, and there’s also a far better chance of it happening. Please The Truth or Silver, please?

  • luci

I agree he should really perform Silver that song rocks.

  • leome

Blindsided is one of my all time favorite albums by anybody

Oh, mine too. Leave Behind is probably one of my favorite songs ever.

Beeing the American Idol and with the need to put a commercial album he had to use more his “soft” side and less the edgier one. It’s great we got Bar-Ba-Sol, Mr. Sensitive, Kiss On The neck… but if he can incorporate more stuff like Hunger Strike in his live shows even better. Not just covers, but down the road even originals. I think he and Neal can come up with great stuff.

I’m not much of a fan of his old Creep cover. His vocals are strong, but the tone of his voice is not my thing. I dunno if he had a cold or if he was just trying to sound like Eddie Vedder, I don’t like it. So I’d love a new version, it would be 10 times better nowadays.
I’d pick Searchlights or Let Go from Analog Heart, but any song would work for me.

  • elisad

    I vote Silver & Porcelain.

  • gingerly

ooh voting :) I vote for Let Go and Silver.

  • Jolene

Well, the band did tell some fans at the HRC show that they learned a few songs from AH. Someone needs to do a follow up and ask which songs.
I’d take pretty much any of them, it still boggles the mind that the only song we got to see live from that album is The Truth, and with horrible sound quality. Let Go isn’t my favorite song, but that “One action, reaction” could be totally awesome live if the audience knows it and shouts “reaction” back.
    Need. Solo. Tour. NOW.

  • David_Cook_Rocks

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nice to know, and it also means the whole band will be there for the acoustic show~ Right? Butà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ What would the rest of the band do at an acoustic show?

    So true elisad. :lol_wp:

They can do unplugged versions of a lot of the mid-tempo songs from the album. I can’t wait to see video of the show. I’m going to a Fall Out Boy concert in Detroit Sunday night so I won’t be able to listen in to the cell-cast. Hopefully we’ll get lots of video.

  • weareallinnocent

    Searchlights for me, please! :-)

  • kathrynTX

Oh thank you Kristen! How in the WORLD do you get to go all these places? I’m jealous. And I thank you so much for sharing too, for those of us who can’t get there. I told my boss back during the AI tour that I needed more time off and a raise so I could be a better David Cook groupie, but he hasn’t come through for me. Dammit. And the David Cook and EEB tour is coming soon! Right? And now I need to watch more of your videos, Ms Kristen.

I just realized – are you the panty instigator? LOL! I bet you had so much fun seeing them at this little venue. ARGH I so so so wish I could get to something like this…NOW. TV, videos, audio are all just fine, but as we know, not EVEN close to LIVE.

Well thank you again for sharing here on mjs. :clap_tb:

  • FolkFan

Sounds like you had a great time DavidCookRocks, and thank you for the videos. (And, no, I rather assumed that you were not singing along to Permanent.) It must have been fantastic to get to be there for that song in particular, the first time that he sang it in public.

  • smartcookie

Thanks so much for the videos, Kristen. You did a great job and it’s such a gift to all of us who couldn’t be there in person.

  • Keel

I second or third or fourth the vote for Searchlights and Let Go. A full version of Better Never Than Late (Optimistic to a Fault) wouldn’t hurt my feelings either.

Yeah, I’ve spent way too much money on concerts this year. I think I went to one concert all of last year which was Daughtry, Staind, and Nickelback. This year I took two weeks off work to see the 3 Idol concerts, Ford Day, and the Jingle Ball. I wanted to go to New York but knew I couldn’t afford it.

At last count I think I’m up to almost 10 concerts this year (Idol and non-Idol peeps). My boss and co-workers all think I’m crazy. I’m actually going to see another radio Christmas show in Detroit tomorrow and the headliner is Fall Out Boy. It’s a small venue similar to the one in Columbus. It’s also general admission so we’re going a couple hours early to try and get close. I may have no voice and the flu by Monday but… hey you only live once, right?

I put off some home improvement projects to pay for my Daventures. I have 3 bathrooms so as long as 1 works, I’m good! Who cares if I fall though my deck, right? LOL. Flying to Tulsa was actually one of the least expensive trips because I got great tickets at face value and I used credit card miles for the airfare and hotel. Ford Day just happened to be practically in my back yard.

I also found out when we were already in Columbus that I could have gotten 4 free tickets to the Jingle Ball with the $50 membership pass I bought that allowed us to get in early. So if David comes back to that venue within the next year, I’m definitley going back. The sound quality was great in there and being less than 10 feet away from him was incredible. I’m planning to make the rounds with my fellow midwesterner WordNerds once the solo tour dates are announced so stay tuned for more videos.

I am not one of the panty instigators. I took a picture of the pink panty brigade put I am not a member. :biggrin_wp:

Kathryn, I hope they come to a city near you soon! Keep working on that Dave cost of living raise with your boss.

You’re speakin my language, chica. Hell to the yes.

Thanks to Kristin for those fabulous videos. GUH. Just guh.

  • kathrynTX

Hey David Cook Rocks Kristen, if you’re still around here, I HEAR YA! I did make AI shows in Dallas, KC (2nd show but saw him both days), and TULSA! I’ve never done anything like that before – took time off work and traveled to hear & see some dang guy (from IDOL, no less) sing the same 5 songs 3 times. But it was SO WORTH IT! If I’d known he was in Tulsa before Idol, I’d have been traveling to Tulsa already, dammit.

But I digress. I’ve spent so much money, not just traveling, because of Mr. Cook this year. It’s ridiculous and I won’t even admit how much – on phone bills, travel, stereo equipment (some in my car with 228,000+ miles on it heehee), concert tickets, music, etc. My family KNOWS I’m nuts. My brother lives with me and just went with me to pick up my custom matted & framed autographed Examiner page, from the Top 3 homecoming trip hahaha! I try to just keep it low-level at work, although a few people are still well aware that I’m coo-coo for Cook. I think my Mom is slowly being Cookified even MUHAHAHAAHA resistance is futile.

Maybe someday, I’ll see you at a David Cook and EEB show, ya never know! My friend who went to Tulsa with me is now ready to travel again to see him. hee. I’m sure I’ll see them more than once. Can’t. Stay. Away.

  • David_Cook_Rocks

I haven’t splurged on a lot of other stuff this year, just Mr. Cook and Mr. Johns. My co-workers even changed my name plate at work to Kristen Johns. I didn’t even notice for a week and a half! They kept trying to direct my attention to it. LOL. They had another one that said Kristen Cook but didn’t put it up. We do an Idol pool at work (that I won BTW) so most everyone I work with are all big fans of David and want to hear my stories and see pictures so it’s all good.

Maybe someday, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see you at a David Cook and EEB show, ya never know!

Well I still have enough credit card points for a free roundtrip airline ticket anywhere in the continental U.S. Once the solo tour schedule is released I’ll decide where I’m flying to. LOL. Some of my fellow WordNerds are thinking about Vegas. I can’t think of a better place to party it up. Hope to meet you on some future Daventure!

  • SashaB

David_Cook_Rocks, thank you so very much for all the wonderful videos. So very kind, thoughtful, and generous of you to share your videos with all of us. It looks like y’all had great time. “Daventure” – I love it! Thank you for Hunger Strike! That was all kinds of amazing, too.

David_Cook_Rocks: You Rock!!!!!!! I wish I could get such good vids! I just want to go back and relive the whole evening again! Thanks!

  • FolkFan

Wow. Well, I get my first Dave concert on Monday….

  • May

Late to the” voting”, but I would be thrilled if he sang Makeover or Silver at a concert. I don’t know as many of his Axium songs but I really would love to hear Not Around….the lyrics are very simple but it’s one of his pre-idol songs that I listen to the most.

Thanks David_Cook_Rocks for such good quality videos! I don’t think I’ll get to see DC live until he starts touring so I’m always grateful when someone takes the time to post videos.

Strangely enough, if you go to iTunes, a proportion of people who bought the Staind album also bought DC’s Permanent (thanks to one of the posters at DCO, I’ve gotten into the habit of checking things like this and now I can’t stop!!!). It happens to be the only Cook song that makes the list and it’s an unusual choice if you look at the other songs that listeners bought. I’m optimistically going to assume that he managed to impress a bunch of hardcore Staind fans at the concert.

  • cookcricket

Folkfan, Enjoy!!!! I’m so happy for anyone who gets to see DC live! Make sure you let us know what you think! I just know you’ll be thrilled beyond belief!

eta: May, Yeah! This is GOOD news!

  • IdolFanatic

Wow! Total and complete chills! AMAZING!

I *knew* that painting reminded me of something. It’s the cover of a book I’ve been reading off and on forever.
