David Archuleta – Z100 Jingle Ball New York City – VIDEO

Interesting. I’m not a fan of Kanye but I think I like the original version of Love Lockdown, especially if you listen to the pitchy MTV Europe performance. I mean, Archie’s is pretty but Kanye’s was weird, raw and broken. I have to admit, though, that it’s probably the context which is influencing my opinion. Anyway, I hope this sparks the idea of a collaboration…although Kanye has to stow his ego a bit since Archie can sing circles around him.

ETA: His hair is not as tent-y as the Disney Xmas parade but he should stop styling it himself, or get a stylist to teach him how.

^^ I think your the first person I’ve heard say you like the weird original version of Love Lockdown. lol. David and Kanye did chat backstage apparently. About what, nobody knows. But I would love to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation.

That technically wasn’t their first encounter, either. David was recording one of the Idol studio recordings while Kanye was in the same studio recording something else (his album, perhaps?). David passed Kanye in the hallway but said he was too nervous to say anything, and felt like he would be bothering Kanye. lol.

ETA: I think he was styled by a stylist. I like his hair here; not as much at the Disney thing, but here it looks good.

I can’t believe David was at MSG tonight… it is hard to wrap your head around how fast everything has evolved. He didn’t even look nervous. In fact, he looked to be in pure bliss during ATM. I’m so happy for him. Oh and that faaccceeee he sang in TMH… gah.

Yeah that performance on MTV Europe was just brilliant. …and the Love Lockdown video is great! I am a fan of Kanye’s new stuff: Love Lockdown and American Boy. He’s creative raw and passionate. DA is cute but Love lockdown is not his style.

David sounds great singing that little bit of Love Lockdown. I like Kanye but I don’t like Love Lockdown. From that little bit David sang I think I might like it if David sang it.

I agree. I don’t think he was trying to ‘take over’ the song, but just singing it because the deejay encouraged him to. David would be the first to give Kanye props for his song. In fact, he gave Kanye (and others) plenty of props in the backstage interview.

David handled last night so well — he was intense on “Crush” and still found that communion with the audience during “A Thousand Miles.” He looked good, too. Love that he’s meeting all of these entertainers who are so far from his realm, but keeps just being David with them and for the media. I’m one who finds that really refreshing and I hope he keeps it up forever.

Looks like Brandy is a fan of David. Check out her vlog from MSG. She’s all excited to spot him backstage.

David rocked it last night!!! I’m so proud of him. I think the vocal rest did wonders for him, I hope he continues to take care of himself. He owned that stage!!!

And goodness, I love everything David sings.. I too don’t like Love Lockdown when Kanye sings it, but David makes everything sound so wonderful that it’s like listening to a new song when he sings it.

David did awesome on the Madison Square Garden stage. Woot. Hard to believe they sandwiched him between Kayne West and Chris Brown in the lineup. Talk about different vibes. But it must have been such an honor for David as he told the DJ backstage.

Speaking of, that interview was hilarious. All sorts of unintentional hilarity ensued, especially with David not budging on getting the lame joke. Hee.

Random 5 to 10 seconds of singing Love Lockdown FTW. That was just great. David’s taste in music really does cover it all. I need him to start randomly rapping one of these days. I just figure he listens to that too. He might not do it in public though because he once said he’d look ridiculous trying to rap. LOL

Why is it that everytime David says he’s really nervous, he just blows us away with an EPIC performance? He was just so in the zone last night. So happy for him. I think it’s kinda funny that most of the discussion here is about the 2 seconds of Love Lockdown that he was just randomly singing lol. Funny comment on the pic of Lady Gaga & David: “lady gaga get off my man!” Haha.

Archie continues to give some great performances, but I’m sure I’m not the only one getting increasingly annoyed that fans continue to sing along to EVERYTHING at the top of their lungs – and out of tune to boot. Ugh, people, this is not supposed to be karaoke. When you have an artist with a voice like his, why must you all insist on trying to drown him out?

RemusL, I totally totally agree with you. As much as I’m enjoying watching these youtube videos of his performances, I am dying to find one that is not littered with these off-key fans trying to sing along. I too don’t get why they don’t want to just listen to his awesome voice and bask in that moment… I know it’s all personal preference but I just want to catch every nuance and every emotion in his singing and that can only be done w/o singing along!!! I don’t get it.

I couldn’t agree more… The endless screaming is more annoying though. We have to remember that most of these fans are under the age of 16.
I wasntt at the concert in NYC but from the sounds of the crowd I cannot imagine that any of the other artists got bigger responses than Archie did. And there were some big names in that lineup…

I was at MSG Jingle last night and David was the only singer whose songs one could clearly hear despite the MSG sound system. He did great! By the beginning of ATM my entire row was standing and singing but maybe only my friends and I there knew who David was. I saw him on the Idol tour in AC but MSG was so different due to the lineup. I thought that Kanye’s set would never end, he sang what appeared like nine songs. By contrast, David’s set was way too brief and a very refreshing break from Kanye’s angry vibe and Chris Brown’s weak vocals even though his dancing was great.

The best evidence that David is having the time of his life is in watching these videos! He’s just beaming up there when he hears the crowd singing along and their cheers. You can see it all over his face that he’s so thankful for all the support he’s getting. That to me says that this is something he really wants for himself.

I love that David is one of the few who needs no auto tune. Sad music world we live in that so many out there do need it. I don’t care about flashy performances; if you can’t sing live, you have no business being a recording artist, but that’s not the way the world works I guess sadly.
