Latest blog from David Archuleta. This week he’s writing with Daniel Bedingfield and Kina Grannis.   And finally, David got to see one of his favorite artists in conert–Imogene Heap:

Hello to all! I’m sorry I haven’t made a blog for a while. I’ve been in the studio a lot doing writing and recording, and it’s been a lot of fun! Last week I got to work with Matt Squire and Victoria Horn, and this week I’ve been working with Daniel Bedingfield and Kina Grannis. They’re all really great and talented people! I can’t wait for you all to hear the songs that we’ve been working on :) heheh. But I’ve been loving the writing sessions!

While I’ve been working in LA, I’ve gotten to spend time with my aunt! It’s been a lot of fun getting to spend time with her and let her be a part of all of the things I’ve been doing down here. I haven’t gotten to spend this much time with her for years, so it’s always great to be with family and have good times. It’s been a hectic, busy week but we still manage to do some fun things here and there.

All right, so Monday while we were writing, Kina told me she was going to the Imogen Heap concert. I just about passed out! I have been wanting to see Imogen Heap for soooo long and she’s one of my favorite musicians! So I got tickets for me and my aunt and we got to go to Imogen’s show. It was AMAZING! it was fun to see how nervous Imogen was and she was just so genuine and quirky. And then her music and the way she loops cool sounds is incredible. I couldn’t get enough of it, and she kept going until midnight lol. I was exhausted but I was so happy to watch her. But anyway, you can never get enough of Imogen but you’ve probably had enough of my blabbing lol.

That’s all I have for right now! More writing today so I better head off. There are some fun things coming up this week that I’ll talk to you about next time! But until then I’ll talk to you later!

Song for the day: The Moment I Said It – Imogen Heap
This song really stood out to me when she performed it at the concert. SO good!

Are y’all going to laugh at me if I ask who Daniel Beddingfield is? Ditto, Kina Grannis? Sorry I have no clue. I do know and think that Imogen Heap is amazing however. Awesome that Archie got to see her in concert.

I’m really hoping the label lets more of David’s songs on the album than they did with the first. IMO (and most who’ve heard them) the songs he collaborated on with other writers that fans have been able to hear were better if not far better than much of what ended up on the album. The song he collaborated on with Bedingfield, “Works for Me” was one of them–it was a song that actually showed some of David’s personality. He sounds even more positive about these songs, so I’m hopeful. :)

  • frogcooke

lol he’s such a fanboy!!! lol

  • houstonrufus

Gingerly, I’m sure others can tell you more. Daniel is a British singer-songwriter. He had a few hits of his own a few years back stateside, but mostly in the UK. His sister is Natasha. Grannis is a singer-songwriter, I think based out of LA. Dave has written with them before and seemd to gel with them well.

Time for some more writing. Today’s the last day working with Kina and Daniel.

Thanks, I really didn’t know…as with many of the people Idols are working with. People say who they are working with is amazing…I honestly don’t concern myself until I hear an amazing song. I think Zac Maloy working with Carrie Underwood on Temporary Home and Zac Maloy working with David Cook on Lie is an example of a stellar collaborator. Maybe he can work with Archuleta. I’ve honestly seen little that who works with them makes a whole bunch of difference. I happen to actually think that Zac Maloy does.

The people who wrote Crush, did David actually have a hand in that? I honestly don’t even know, did an amazing pop song that hit perfectly. Are they setting the stage for that magic to happen again? Again, I don’t follow DA so don’t even know. Again, I’m not interested in anybody who had a pop hit x years ago. I’m interested in somebody who can give David A. a song that will do what Crush did. I have to think it’s not happening again. but I certainly hope that sometime it will happen again. He may not be a Lady Gaga but maybe his voice is enough with the exactly correct song to make lightning strike twice.

I am going to smile the rest of the day after reading his blog ..

  • Stan

Wow! thanks for posting the blog.
It sure seems like he’s just as busy as ever. Every day for the past two weeks or so he’s been writing, recording.
I would love a vlog or video sharing the recording process. I think David has said he would like to do a video of him recording a song.
Not too much to ask! ha!

  • frogcooke

stan, that would be cool. if he did a video going through the process of recording a song etc etc.

  • data785

I’m really hoping with all the different collaborators he’s working with, lightning does strike twice (and then some) with his 2nd album. He sounds like he’s really enjoying working with everyone so far and that he’s putting a lot of himself into these songs.

  • ggdoorsfan

can’t he duplicate the magic that was and is ”crush?” would be nice, but i’m not going to be scouring the tracklisting for the second pop cd looking for or expecting the next ”crush”… if it happens – it happens… some singers never get a song like that in their whole careers, so it’s good to know david will have at least one enduring top 40 smash on his resume, and given his youth, he should have many opportunities down the line to perhaps even top ”crush”… we shall see, and that’s what makes the whole thing so exciting!

… i just hope to see a progression in production, direction and ”sound” on the complete cd, and my hope is that the songs chosen are more representative of david’s songwriting input… those are my only expectations, so we’ll see how this progresses… i’m pleased to see him more engaged in the whole process this go round, and collaborating with some people in the vein of the ”soulful pop” sound he’s expressed a desire to go into…

  • jaimej40

Actually I like this! I love Daniel Bettingfield and I think it’s a good fit for DA!
Is Kina Grannis the one who was featured during the Doritos Super Bowl commercial last year? If she is, she wrote a song called Message from your Heart that is pretty catchy.

  • cmom

I too hope that more of the songs that David writes/co-writes are on his 3rd cd. I loved Works for Me, Zero Gravity, Somebody Out There and A Little Too Not Over You. I even really like the sound of that song he wrote when he was really young: “Don’t Tell Me”

I’m sure he’ll have success in his career and some hits, after all he is a teenager and has plenty of time to evolve with his music. He has a loyal fanbase to back him up which it’s great too.
Daniel Bendingfield is a very good songwriter, I’m sure they are going to do good music together.

  • pouncer84

Kina opened for David at the Del Mar, CA concert back in June. If you go to Getty Images, there are 2 pics taken yesterday of David and one with Kina.

    What’s next for David?
Planet Cazmo virtual concert tomorrow & Saturday
Kaleidoscope TV Special taping in DC on Monday
Kaleidoscope Brunch in DC on Tuesday
Hopefully rehearsals the rest of the week (must break in new guitarist)
Start Winter tour on 11/24 in Salt Lake City

    that’s for sure :D

I’m enthused by David’s enthusiasm for this round of songwriting. My favorite song that he co-wrote is actually “Somebody Out There” — love that one. Can’t wait to hear what else he and his collaborators come up with.

And as for “Crush” — gosh, that’s a great song. E-man (don’t ask me to spit out his whole name) was the main writer and I sure wouldn’t have known his name before “Crush.”

  • Kipper

Yes, I am part of that VERY loyal fanbase, and I look forward to David’s continued rise on the musical ladder.

CMOM, thanks so much for that link to “Don’t Tell Me!” I’d never heard it, or heard “of” it, and it’s amazing, like everything else he’s written. He’s such an amazing teen, unlike any teenager I’ve ever seen, and far beyond most adults! His character is very unusual, and most of his dedicated fans hang on his every word. This young man gives us a blog or vlog almost every week, and talks to us like we were a very close friend! Do you know any other singer/songwriter/artists that do that? Wow! And he’s hilarious without even trying to be! What more could we ask? David is amazing ~ and we are VERY spoiled!

  • ggdoorsfan

emanuel kiriakou is his name, hitz is his game :D

  • k0ka

his career is over. Christmas album is his last record.

  • ggdoorsfan

ah dang koka – and he was just getting warmed up too! lolol, do i need to bronze my cd as a momento? i may be able to get a few dollars for it as a collector’s item on ebay

  • JRB5776

gg – they make good Frisbees…that’s always an option.

  • ggdoorsfan

lolol jrb5776 – maybe they could be converted into coasters? have to find some practical use for the thing if bronzing is not an option

  • JRB5776

Christmas tree ornaments? A little spray paint and glitter. Beautiful.

  • ggdoorsfan

thread some wire through the center hole and turn them into earrings? if i bronzed and spray painted and glitterized them that would really be edgy – the possibilities… ”rubs hands together in glee”

  • JRB5776

Break them up into little mosaic pieces. We could use them for the walkway we will create to the little shrines to his career in our backyards. They will sparkle like diamonds in the sun.

  • heidijoy

David just tweeted that he is finished writing with Kina Ginnis and Daniel Bedingfield He has a busy schedule coming up with recording for the Charity Ice show with David Foster etc, and getting ready for his tour. Getting excited for the tour and his upcoming third album. Meantime enjoying the Christmas Album. Exciting times!

  • JRB5776

Kina tweeted that they were able to complete two songs this week, and write parts of 2 more songs.

    They were also recording today.

Also, Snarkies is reporting that it is confirmed that the Billboardlive.com concert is the Connecticut concert on Dec. 17.

I hope one of his wishes to come true for his second pop album. Singing a duet with Natasha Bedingfield!!!

There are tons of artists who don’t have a smash hit song under their belts and at least he doesn’t belong to that category and I am relieved about that. Works For Me has a potential to be a hit song, but Jive put it as a bonus song, not being included on the main album, which was a mistake.

I can see he is slowly but surely finding his musical direction he wants to go. I have no doubt he will grow and build his own musical kingdom that identifies unique David sound.

BTW, I listened to The Moment I Said It by Imogen Heap.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaato6qwzvc

Very interesting. I am not sure if he will write that kind of song in the future, but his eclectic taste in music is surely hard to keep up with. haha.

  • frogcooke

ahhhh the 17th….. thats my show at foxwoods!!! ack!

  • KathyH

Ahhh, frog! Now, if I understand those Billboard concert promos, the online viewer can focus in on anything they want — the singer or drummer or … you! (Haha, just kidding. I couldn’t actually do that because I don’t know what you look like.) This sounds like so much fun, though. Hope my schedule is clear for that day so I can watch the event as it happens. *writes down Dec. 17 so I can check my calendar and possibly CLEAR it.*

I’ve honestly seen little that who works with them makes a whole bunch of difference. I happen to actually think that Zac Maloy does.

hmmmm, never heard of this guy, not ringing any bells – is he a country artist/singer/songwriter? i’ve never heard ”lie” before, come to think of it… was it ever released as a cook single ? i’m only aware of toml, lo, and cbtm… i know toml was penned by someone else, but were lo and cbtm cook penned, or were they written by other stellar collaborators in the vein of maloy ?

    MJ,

Thanks for posting! I love hearing the constant tidbits about everything David is doing. I am excited to see him on the 24th!

  • pam05

Love that David is writing with some well known music writers, it should be an interesting mix of genres on his album again. Gosh, can’t wait to see the Billboard.com show live, it should be humdinger of a show.

  • LCT

MJ, Thanks for posting everything and anything about David! Love his sense of humor and of course his talent and looks!
