UPDATE: The last 3 dates of David’s tour with Demi Lavato have been canceled, according to FOD. No further details are known at this time. Guess David will have some extra time to rest that voice…

David Arculeta updates his fans on the latest news in his latest video blog. He’s on the road with Demi Lovato, struggling with allergies but still having a great time on tour. He’s just gotten his voice back after a recent bout of throat problems, and he Can’t. Stop. Talking!

Check it out after the jump…

I love Archie’s video blogs…he seems so normal and unaffected by all of this.

  • abbysee

He loves to talk, doesn’t he? LOL. And sing……he’s just full of adorableness. Truly.

  • frogcooke

    Dude loves to talk… lol

Major #disneyfail (yes Im tweeting it)

They apparently canceled the last 3 shows of the Demi tour. Atlantic City was confirmed at the box office. Fans of David confirmed the last 3 with David’s management.

It would be the Atlantic City, Providence and Manchester shows that are canceled. Waiting for official confirmation from either site. But they are slow to update.

What’s with the spamming in multiple threads?

  • frogcooke

Oh i posted in the headlines but i didnt know if anyone saw it since noone commented.

I posted it here in the david thread since I figured it was relevant since he talks about tour.

  • blissful

frogcooke, I wasn’t referring to your post, but to the first one. Sorry about that.

Why did they cancel the shows?

  • blissful

Archie is a sweetheart. In some of the other cities where the Demi/David show has been cancelled Archie has been scheduling his own solo show to make it up to his fans. So maybe that will happen in those cities you mentioned where shows have been recently cancelled. I took my two tween daughters to see Demi and David here in Orlando about two weeks ago. Archie has grown so much as a performer since his AI days. His voice was amazing as always and he really connected with the crowd and rocked the stage.

  • frogcooke

Supposedly they are trying to reschedule them for the end of oct/start of nov hopefully if it works out.

Oh and Its more than likey its not due to poor ticket sales. The AC venue told one caller this morning that it was sold out and then they just found out they canceled the show.

  • jmds88

Omg, he’s waaaay to adorable for words. Ha.

  • frogcooke

blissful, no idea why yet… *shrugs* Go ask Disney.. lol

  • KathyH

Love every last second of that vlog and I would love to get a weekly, long and rambly vlog from David.

Weird about the cancellations. People who have called to confirm the AC cancellation have also confirmed that the show was a sellout. I didn’t have tickets to any of those shows — saw him in Omaha (VIP tix, too!) and he was wonderful. Feel badly for the fans who already held tickets.

  • frogcooke

I feel worse for the fans flying in….

  • brewster

If there any good to come from this it is that there are 3 less shows that David has to be associated with Disney and Lovato.

  • KathyH

I know, frogcooke. I do too.

And yes, brewster, I hear you on that one, too.

  • JRB5776

There’s one gal flying in all the way from Venezuela just to see David at the AC concert. I don’t know if she’s already in route or not. Such a bummer.

There is also a contingent of fan/friends who had planned a 4 concert blitz for a long weekend get-together. Gals, guys and couples. There go the plane tickets, hotel reservations, etc., not to mention the concerts and just that they were looking forward to getting together. Gah!

And the teenaged fans that had looked forward to seeing David all summer. Even if he’s able to reschedule, there will be a lot of them who won’t be able to make it after school starts up again.

David was able to reschedule 2 of the 3 previously cancelled shows. Hopefully he can reschedule all of these. Fingers crossed for the disappointed David fans.

  • frogcooke

Oh yikes, Venezuela, I hope she’s not on her way already D:

  • houstonrufus

This has all been a big mess. And I hate this happens at the end of tour. I’m glad that the shows sold so well, but that just means more fans are disappointed. Yikes. Hope some clarification comes out soon as to what happened.

  • frogcooke

Uggg I know something official better come out soon. The only venue so far telling people its canceled is the AC one… and they are still saying it. THey better announce something soon if they are going to.

  • ozarka

There were 5 consecutive dates scheduled for the final shows, August 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24. That would have been murder for both Demi’s and David’s voices, particularly Demi’s since she has the much longer set. Perhaps, that has something to do with the cancellations.

One bright side to this is that it will save David’s voice and give him more time to work on his Christmas album. He did say in a recent interview that he hopes he will be able to re-record the vocals for a few of his songs on the album since he had recorded them during a time when he was actually sick and his voice was not at it’s optimal quality.

  • frogcooke

He was recording today heh. And then chased by the paps leaving lol

  • ozarka

Demi has been getting a whole bunch of tweets wanting to know why the cancellations. I guess she couldn’t take it any more so she went to bed very early…

    @ddlovato — It’s 8:16 but I’m so exhausted….. Going to bed soon..

  • frogcooke

ugg half my tweets arent showing up lol I didnt get demis tweet.

  • Suzanne

Cute typo in the first line below David’s picture in the “Update” paragraph. Lavato is two letters short of lavatory. (My world is a small world.)

I am super curious why Demi Lovato has cancelled so many shows. It was three others also, right? (more?). Is 6 out of 40 a lot? (I think cancelling any is very bad–she’s contracted to perform, right?)

Do you think it’s as simple as she’s tired of singing? (or tired of her yellow t-shirt and white vest? Do other performers wear the same thing for every performance of a 40 show tour? . . . other than the American Idols?)

  • frogcooke

A few of the show previously were scheduling conflicts with camp rock 2 dance rehearsals. or at least one of them one was, the grand rapids one.

Who knows why these are canceled only a few days before. its obviously not due to not being able to sing because she has 2 shows more to do. She was supposed to start camp rock rehearsals right after the tour ended with no break. I don know if it has to do with camp rock or not…

If it is, you would think they had the schedules worked out already and would not need to change them this close to the concert date, especially with one being sold out. If it indeed is a scheduling conflict for the last 3, that is some HUGE oversight by disney.

I know she had complained about not having a break between the tour and camp rock and not being home by november. I just hope for her fans sake they dont find out she lounging around somewhere instead of a concert on the canceled dates. Not that I see that happening.. but you know… She was at the white house today and doing other stuff around DC..

  • houstonrufus

Eeep. Didn’t know all that froggy. I’ve never really heard of anything like this, shows canceled so close to the end of a tour, shows that sold well, one of which sold out, where the headliner is, by recent accounts, well. I still think fans need to take a deep breath before piling on anyone without more information, but this is all very strange.

I love rambling David… rambling David is fun :)

About the concerts… sad for the people that were going to the concerts :( … and that girl that was flying from Venezuel most have invested over a $1000.00, I was planning on going to AI Tour last year and just 2 days in town and the ticket plus the plane cost amount that…

Oh well less Demi and thats a good thing… what ´s next Jason Mraz :)

  • frogcooke

    lol I’ll pile on disney.

  • houstonrufus

    Down with the mouse!!!

  • frogcooke

    This was posted at idf:

From nagaemx of SA : i Just got an update from Demi Lovato’s facebook page. They resceduled the shows.

Demi Lovato’s tour is produced by AEG Live, and sponsored by AT&T and Comfort Inn.

October 30 Providence, RI Dunkin’ Donuts Center

  • houstonrufus

How odd. Via her facebook? What kind of Mickey Mouse operation is this!!????!!! LOL. Ah, sigh. So David will be performing concerts with Demi AFTER his Christmas cd comes out. Wonder if he’ll change up his set.

  • frogcooke

    http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=71815043&blogId=506394117

its on Demi’s myspace and facebook.
    —-

I still dont believe the bunk about not knowing about a ‘scheduling conflict’ untill 3-4 days before the concerts are supposed to happen.

  • RV65

“….Citing scheduling conflicts, Demi Lovato and David Archuleta announced three rescheduled shows today.”

I find it strange and funny that when advertising the concerts (or in most of it) they dont mention Archie’s name….now that theyre canceling, they mention his name and make it appear that both canceled? hehe whats up with that Disney?

  • JRB5776

Well….good for the locals. Not so good for those coming from out of town and out of country. Some who have already arrived for the weekend festivities.

And he has to do shows with her again after everything is over. Ugh! Right when he’ll be gearing up for Christmas CD promo and tour.

At least with the other cancellations there was more notice given so everyone could reschedule things. FAIL that Demi’s management cancelled these on such short notice. Especially if they are citing “scheduling conflicts”. That’s just bull shit. You don’t have last minute scheduling conflicts. Schedules are done way in advance.’

And, sorry, but FAIL that despite hardly any mention by Demi or Demi’s people the entire tour that David is even involved in her tour AT ALL, her announcement was damned sure to invoke his name.

  • JRB5776

^^ haha RV65 Great minds and all. I didn’t see your post until I refreshed.

  • brewster

I am sure that they included David’s name in the rescheduling notice in an attempt to minimize the number of refunds by David’s large number of supporters who hold tickets. If I were one of those ticket holders I would get a refund and purchase a ticket to one of David’s solo winter tour shows. Screw Disney and Lovato.

  • kvon

So what is that song that he is excited about hearing at the end of the clip? I can’t hear what he’s singing clearly, just that it’s something they played on the Idol tour last year.

  • JRB5776

^^ My Hero by Foo Fighters. David Cook sang it on the AI tour last year.

  • RV65

How I wish I looked as fresh, innocent and joyful as David is in this video when I was 18…….I guess I was just too engrossed then to project the “cool image” as much as possible…oh well…….probably in my next life…..lol

  • ghl

It is disappointing that Demi’s management made frequent excuses to cancel the shows. They have issues with professionalism. I feel for Philippines and other international fans who planned to fly out just to see David. Thanks to this tour with Disney, it’s true that he is gaining many young fans and it is understandable for a teen to gain more popularity among tweens and teens. But I don’t want any more Disney.

My family went to a David/Demi show last Thursday. Despite allergy problems, David poured out great energy, jumping, dancing and reaching out far from left to right. The whole set was well mixed and it went by so quickly. David has two faces. When he talks, he is the most down to earth your next door neighbor boy. But when he performs, there is 40 year old soul in him, and he easily gets lost.

When Demi performed, my hubby was closing his eyes and almost slept despite her loudest band and shouting vocals. We left there soon. She may be pushed by Disney as the next big thing, but she should learn a thing or two about professionalism if she wants to succeed.

BTW, I thought David would have the Christmas tour after Oct. 13th when it is released. Hopefully, rescheduled dates for the tour with Demi wouldn’t conflict his solo tour.

  • carolinacharms

David needs to refrain from going too far down the AC route with his Christmas and Pop albums. He’s 18 going on 38 and looking about 8.

    That’s all.

  • KathyH

I suspect that David’s name was included in the cancellation notices because management was well aware of the massive disgruntlement within his fanbase. David fans seemed to be first to know about the cancellations — several had called the Atlantic City venue.

I also suspect that the hardest working 18 year old (tm Brooke White, I think) will find a way to make the three rescheduled concerts work with his Christmas promotions and tour.

I feel like a jerk, sometimes, being his fan. As much as I want him to rest, I also selfishly want to see him perform again and am enthused about the prospects of another concert possibility.

  • oceana

What’s with the spamming in multiple threads?

Yeah, every thread isn’t about Adam, darn it, this is about Archie. It’s not as if Adam doesn’t have plenty of threads without needing to be added to every one.

I don’t think concerts should be cancelled with such short notice if at all possible. It’s just not right. They aren’t going to reimburse people for their plane tickets after all. I’m sorry for people who took time off work, bought plane tickets, and made plans with their friends. The “scheduling conflicts” excuse sounds like bull. I bet Disney wants her to do something else more lucrative, and screw the fans. It stinks.

    He’s 18 going on 38 and looking about 8.

Now that’s how I always saw him on the show, too. A sweet, funny, talented, and kind of strange kid.

  • ghl

At the show we went to, there were quite a few adults and guys among 4000 audience. A lady behind me couldn’t stop laughing during his banters, I mean, laughing with adoration. I think parents enjoyed his set more than Demi’s.

My 18 year old boy admits David is a heck of a singer and sent ‘A Thousand Miles’ mp3 to his girl friend who later said that she and her mom loved the song. My 20 year old college boy bought David’s t-shirt at the show saying that his voice is unique and different among the crops, and he likes someone different. They love rap, rock, pop and any genres. David’s whole album is in their ipods, heh.

  • JRB5776

He doesn’t look 8, or 12. Kind of tired of seeing that everywhere. He looks the same age as my 18 and 19 year old nephews. My 18 year old actually looks younger than David does.

    ghl –

I know several kids, teens and young adults who consider David to be pretty darn cool. heh The new cool.

My nieces and nephews and a lot of their friends like him and respect him for walking the walk not just talking the talk. For bucking the status quo. For not succumbing to peer pressure. For staying strong in his convictions. For not lying about things just to make himself look cool. For being truthful even if it makes him look like a dork. For being real. They are the kind of kids that join and work with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). They respect him for not being a fake like they see so many of the celebrities out there being. He’s unique and a dork, just like they are. Difference is he embraces it and doesn’t try to be cool when inside you are really a dork. And because he doesn’t try to be cool or think he’s cool…he’s cool. (that’s what my 21 year old niece said haha)

Saw a quote yesterday, “Everyone only THINKS he’s a wuss, when in actuality he’s a Rebel Leader.”

  • KathyH

GHL — it took my 16yo music snob quite some time to become a real David fan (she hates Idol) but after she saw him on tour this time, it happened. Couldn’t resist the voice and she says she respects him for being genuine.

JRB — I hear you. One of my 16yos best male friends is 17 and looks considerably younger than David, IMO. Her friend is also funny and a gentleman. To me, David is very much like the real kids in my life. When I met him, I felt as if he sees himself as one of the guys from the neighborhood (who happens to sing.) Didn’t sense any wall between star and fan. Makes it fun to support him.

  • carolinacharms

JRB5776–David is a good kid, but “cool” he ain’t. Not even close. That’s part of his charm, no? I’d reckon that in the majority of pubic (and most private) high schools in the US, he’d be an outcast–the teased one–the (lovable) oddball. But “cool?” Heh. Any 18 y/o boy who says “oh my heck” is anything but. And anyone under 38 would know that.

  • ghl

    carolinacharms,
I think you misunderstood the meaning of ‘a new cool’ JRB was talking about. There was an article written by a Seattle reporter who called him ‘a new cool’ because he always pimps others (except himself) and is such a good role model unlike many celebrities. When he was going to school, he always got along well with everyone and didn’t get teased at school. He was always well known as someone who sang well there. BTW, ‘oh my heck’ is frequently used in Utah and nobody thinks it’s odd there. LOL.

  • KathyH

Yeah, I was thinking CC missed the point. “Cool” is a matter of perception anyhow. If you use the average high schooler’s definition, David doesn’t fit. Many of them learn, hopefully by the age of 38, that their definition of cool means squat in a grown-up world.

David’s the kind of new cool, however, that I’m still striving for.

  • brewster

But ‘cool?’ Heh. Any 18 y/o boy who says ‘oh my heck’ is anything but. And anyone under 38 would know that.

The last thing on David’s list of goals is to try to impress people how “cool” he is.

  • carolinacharms

ok, so he’s the “new cool.” fine. check back in 5 years and see if the “new cool” movement has taken root somewhere…anywhere…beyond the confines of Utah, that is. heh.

and p.s…..I do really, really like David, but he’s still not “cool,” suave, smooth, socially accomplished, socially integrated/mature (dating, girls), etc. David is, however, undoubtedly awkward, retro, painfully polite, self-doubting, tongue-tied, lacking in self-confidence (though improving daily), inarticulate, unpolished…and, oh yeah, adorable as “heck.” A genuinely good boy and a cutie, too. And I guess that ain’t half bad. :-)

  • houstonrufus

I think this “cool” discussion has more to do with those doing the categorizing of cool than David himself. I’m a fan–I wouldn’t change a thing about him even if I could. But I recognize that David doesn’t exactly fit common cultural expectations of “cool” and he most likely never will. For me what makes the application of that label to David irrelevant is what Brewster alluded to–David couldn’t care less about that. It’s just not something he’s worrying about. As the vlog demonstrates, he is just being himself, uniquely himself. As with any other singer/personality, some will take to him, some won’t. And you know what? He knows that and I don’t think he is worried about it in the least.

  • ghl

    houstonrufus said,

“David doesn’t exactly fit common cultural expectations of ‘cool’ and he most likely never will. ”

This makes him cool. Beyond and above, his high standards of how to live his life and what to do and what not to within righteous boundaries are rare to find these days. He is untouched by the world and untouchable by the world. That is so cool. You know it is hard to be like him.

  • carolinacharms

The application of the term “cool” isn’t a non-starter simply because one declares it so…and especially not when applied to anyone seeking to make it in the pop music business–where image is e v e r y t h i n g. Last I checked, David still wants to be a pop artist, no?

Mere discussion of David’s purported “uncoolness” certainly bears no reflection on the poster. It’s just an opinion. One shared by millions. Besides, I’m as cool as they come. LMAO. And btw, I, too, am a “fan.” Takes all kinds.

  • houstonrufus

I declare it so. LOL. Just kidding. I get what you’re saying. I just see it differently, I guess. Were he trying to be whatever you’re defining as “cool” and failing miserably, then stamping him as “uncool” once and for all would seem more revelatory. There are certainly examples of singers out there attempting to play that part and not making it work. He’s not trying to be that. So, for me at least, the “cool” discussion is not relevant. How’s that? Clearly, for others defining him as one or the other is important.

  • carolinacharms

houston–clearly, defining him as “one or the other” is of critical import to powerful folks in the recording industry and at radio. and for obvious reasons. and while it’s awfully nice to sit back as an adoring fan, thumbing one’s nose at the elites and issuing moral imperatives right and left, David can’t afford to be so cavalier.

i do agree with you that he’s not trying to be something he’s not (as that would never work), but he does at least need to remain cognizant of how non-fans and tptb perceive him. after all, david has *chosen* to play in the meanest, most cruel, most superficial sandbox known to man. and so he’s got to play the game to some extent (without losing himself, of course.)–or go home. a tricky task, no?

bottom line: “oh my heck” needs to go!! de pronto! rofl. :-) much love to you and yours in the DJA universe.
