Just a correction – McFly is very much a pop-rock band (I suppose the equivalent of your Jonas Brothers), whose fans are largely teenage girls. Very little punk about them.

  • frogcooke

    snippet from wiki:

McFly’s debut album, Room on the 3rd Floor, debuted at #1 in the UK album chart and is certified as double platinum, this lead to the band becoming known as the youngest band ever to have an album debut at #1 – a title taken from The Beatles. A month after the album was released, the band had their first UK headlining tour.

As of December 2008, McFly have had sixteen consecutive top twenty singles, seven of which reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart and fifteen of which were consecutive top ten singles.

  • jjcoolgal891

Actually I’m listening to alot of their songs right now, and their songs are nothing like the Jonas Brothers. Much better beats, much better lyrics, better singing!

  • tinawina

Oh cool! Sounds like a good opportunity for the Archster.

  • Hazehel

Well, the point is that the demographics of their fans are very much like Jonas Brothers’. And I can see Jonas Brothers doing many of their songs, like this one -

McFly has much more radio credibility in the UK than the Jonas Brothers do in the US. The JoBros are very successful, but they don’t have the best luck on radio. McFly is more Top 40 mainstream than the JoBros. If I had to describe them I would say pop with a touch of alt (something along the lines of the All-American Rejects).

A lot of young bands have a fan base with a good portion being teenage girls, especially if the guys are good-looking. The difference between the Jonas Brothers and bands like McFly, Simple Plan, AAR, etc. is that the Jonas Brothers’ success was built on the back of that fanbase. They take it to the extreme such that if you go to a JoBros concert that is 90% of what you’ll see–tween/teen girls (I doubt McFly would film McFly: A 3D Concert Experience that includes a scene of them running from rabid teen girls). You go to a McFly concert and there will be wider range of types.

  • Dr. Tracey

My teenager came charging down the stairs to tell me this news earlier, she’s a HUGE McFly fan.
That’s good exposure for David, seems like a great fit.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

Me happy, do you guess he will get to see the Queen???

  • jjcoolgal891

Yup, a great fit. Except I hear that they like to get naked on their tours. And do alot of other inappropriate antics…………………………I CAN’T WAIT!!!

  • sabby_rina

Yeah jjcoolgal, I did hear about McFly’s dcrazy antics on stage. Hm… lol

  • ilovetohateai

now thats what i wanna see, archuleta get corrupted a little bit.

  • Dr. Tracey

Except I hear that they like to get naked on their tours. And do alot of other inappropriate antics

    Oh wow, really?
LOL Thanks for the warning, no shows for my kids then if they ever tour in the USA.

  • jjcoolgal891

Hmm, anyway to tie up Jeff to keep him from going to the UK with David?? That would almost ensure some corruption. LOL

  • soundscene

now thats what i wanna see, archuleta get corrupted a little bit.

I think that’s impossible. David is self-uncorrupting. His moral compass must be made of some impenetrable material that hasn’t yet been discovered on earth.

  • tinawina

So they’re raunchy? And naked? LMAO. Archie’s gonna need a lot of sharpies.

  • luckeee55

I like this pairing. It will give David a lot of exposure to his target UK audience. David is familiar with a wide variety of artists and most certainly understands that they are not all church-going Mormoms. I have no worries about David being shocked while on tour.

One thing I am thinking: they are pushing the overseas touring rather quickly. Is this because he can’t find a suitable tour partner in the US?

  • Tess

Aren’t most Big US tours during the summer?

  • kimberann

Congrats to David A. Now if we can Cook paired with someone like Coldplay for a worldwide tewer!

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^I don ´t know, there were a lot of rumors about him touring with Chris Brown, but with Brown I guess thatwon ´t be happening any time soob… if I were to think on anyone maybe the BSB reunion or JT tour…

  • lucy

I wonder whether part of this is because of the kind of venues these are — seem like medium-sized, not-too-big-but-not-too-small, not-arena, non-bars. That would be about what you’d want to see David try for the first time out, I’d think. I can see them having a hard time finding a suitable U.S. touring partner who attracts younger kids but also would be doing venues of that size rather than arenas. (not that I know anything about most of the acts that attract young teenagers…)

  • frogcooke

Well Davids album is supposed to be out in the UK in March I think…

  • soundscene

One thing I am thinking: they are pushing the overseas touring rather quickly. Is this because he canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t find a suitable tour partner in the US?

Nah, I think it’s because it matches up with his UK release date nicely. Gives “Crush” some time to catch on before he gets out there, too. The “Crush” video is already being played but I don’t think it goes for radio adds in the UK until late February. The album comes out in early March I think.

Plus, the next big tours in the US will be around summer time so they still have time to pair him up with somebody here.

I wonder whether part of this is because of the kind of venues these are à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ seem like medium-sized, not-too-big-but-not-too-small, not-arena, non-bars. I can see them having a hard time finding a suitable U.S. touring partner who attracts younger kids but also would be doing venues of that size rather than arenas. (not that I know anything about most of the acts that attract young teenagersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦)

I don’t think Jive would care whether he opens for somebody who attracts kids. In fact, I would think they would want somebody who attracts an older audience. Part of Azoff’s marketing strategy seems to be marketing to kids/tweens, but clearly they are working a multi-market strategy, attempting to attract college/older teens as well as adults, and Jive is working the same deal on the music/tour side. Nor do I think Jive would necessarily want mid-sized venues for a US tour specifically. Maybe he’ll be booked on a mid-sized venue tour, maybe not. Depends on who he’s paired with. David can work arenas; he knows how. There’s no problem with him opening an arena tour.

He’s barely known in the UK. At this point, pairing him with a mid-size venue band that has a lot of mainstream success in the UK is a great idea. He doesn’t need to be opening for a huge act over there, just a credible act with a lucrative fan base.

  • jjcoolgal891

Well there has been rumors of a summer tour for Archie. Though it would be much bigger than the tour hes starting here soon. So I’m guessing it would be with a much bigger audience.

  • hypertwink

Will his dad be there? Because if he isn’t, then this will probably be Archie’s version of rumspringa. Not that he’ll go whole hog into sex, drugs and rock n roll but he’ll discover what it’s like to be on his own without the looming presence of his father.

  • Hazehel

McFly has much more radio credibility in the UK than the Jonas Brothers do in the US.

I think there is a problem when translating the the idea of radio credibility to the UK. The situation is simply different from the US, and I’m not sure how useful that concept is in the UK.

You go to a McFly concert and there will be wider range of types.

Well, I’ve never been to a McFly concert so I wouldn’t really know, but let’s just say that most boys in the UK wouldn’t admit to being a fan of McFly. In their mind McFly would be the equivalent of Jonas Brothers.

  • jjcoolgal891

I’m almost 99% sure his dad will be there. I mean, I know David is already 18 but I doubt Jeff would let him go overseas without him.

  • abbysee

This is great news. I think it’s a good fit. For the record I don’t want David to be corrupted. This tour will give him a greater world view and experiemce. That’s what’s exciting for me. He doesn’t have to be sullied to be credible.

Watch out UK Archuleta is gonna be in the house! He must be freaking out right now. What a pay off for his fans (like me) who keep getting these cool little surprises. I knew I would be rewarded for watching Crush night, lol.

  • soundscene

Well, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never been to a McFly concert so I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really know, but letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just say that most boys in the UK wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t admit to being a fan of McFly. In their mind McFly would be the equivalent of Jonas Brothers.

Considering McFly run around on stage nekked and the JoBros wear purity rings, I’m thinking their respective fan bases may be slightly different. It’s not even necessarily about age/gender, but about the type of person that goes for a band like McFly as opposed to the type of person that goes for a band like the Jonas Brothers. If the JoBros and McFly were to tour together, each would be performing for a chunk of fans that wouldn’t otherwise listen to them.

  • IdolFanatic

LOL. I think some people still want Archie to be a Disney star. Sorry never gonna happen folks.

  • LK09

So theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re raunchy? And naked? LMAO. Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gonna need a lot of sharpies.

    :lol_wp: :jittery_tb:

  • hermy

This is awesome! I love mcfly. imo, they are not at all like the jobros. Different music, different image (not as… pure lol). This will good for David.

  • jjcoolgal891

While McFly might do all these things on tour, I doubt we’ll see any Archustriping. Though I wouldn’t mind. ;)

  • JudyOhio

I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around the naked business. DA and a band that has some naked antics does not compute for me. Anybody have a link available to where the info is on that?

  • Anya

I love McFly too and I hate Jo Bros so there. YAY for David! I hope David can experience some Europe, he definitely needs to loosen up and start being a big boy. Isn’t it time for Mr A senior to stay put in the US and let David start learning life? How else can he develop into a true artist?

  • ggdoorsfan

I have a valid passport… anyone wanna front me a couple thou to check out David on tour in the UK? hahahahahah….

I especially would like to see him when he hits the Hammersmith Apollo… I think back in the day, it was called the Hammersmith Odeon.. lotta legendary acts went through there… David Bowie put on a “farewell” show there in ’73 or “74 that is still talked about to this day!

Does the UK sponsor contests to win tix? Airfare? One can dream :cool1_tb:

  • Laurie

Me too JudyOhio.^ It sounds like a weird fit, but I am not familiar with their music. I am just wondering, if the naked thing is true, if that crowd will respond well to DA. I would hate to see him get a poor response. Years ago I went to a concert and remembering the opening act getting booed and chants for the main act ensued. Although, David’s voice is so amazing, that alone could win over a crowd. I need to youtube McFly.

  • ozarka

Some of you may remember that Mcfly was voted to the top of the heap for Shine On Media’s “Shining Star Award” in 3 categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Group of the Year.

    Artist of the Year
    1. McFly
    2. David Archuleta
    3. Tokio Hotel
    4. Jonas Brothers
    5. Paramore

    Album of the Year
    1. McFly: Radio: ACTIVE
    2. David Archuleta: David Archuleta
    3. Jonas Brothers: A Little Big Longer
    4. David Cook: David Cook
    5. Taylor Swift: Fearless

    Group of the year:
    1. McFly
    2. Jonas Brothers
    3. Paramore
    4. Tokio Hotel
    5. Backstreet Boys

They are obviously very popular and are therefore ideal hosts for introducing David to the European audience. This will definitely help him expand his fan base. I’m very excited about this news.

  • Hazehel

I think there is a really a problem with trying to use exact comparison when the cultures of the two countries are very different. Few girls (and I should imagine no boy) wear purity ring in the UK for example. The biggest boy band ever in the UK Take That had on their first video in the early 1990s all four members of the band naked, their backsides fully exposed for all to see (although I should also say that they were trying to court the gay contingent then as well). There simply isn’t that squeamishness about nudity anymore. It isn’t really useful, and actually quite pointless, to make exact comparison.

The only thing you can say is that there are bands/singers that caters primarily to teenage girls – like McFly, Busted (one member of this band later formed McFly, and I just noticed that Jonas Brother covered one of their songs “What I Go To School For”), That That, Westlife, East 17, etc. Sometimes the fans grow old with the band and they ceased to be only about teenage girls, sometimes not and the band dies because a new generation of teenage girls want their own bands. McFly lasted long enough to have broader range of fans, but they are still fundamentally a band for the teenage girls.

  • stelladallas

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m almost 99% sure his dad will be there. I mean, I know David is already 18 but I doubt Jeff would let him go overseas without him.

I wouldn’t have wanted to go overseas by myself when I was 18, either! And I sure wouldn’t let my 18 year old go without me, especially if I’m also their manager.

  • soundscene

Isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it time for Mr A senior to stay put in the US and let David start learning life? How else can he develop into a true artist?

David’s Dad isn’t the one that sets David’s moral compass–it’s David. His “gosh”es come about because he refuses (and I mean refuses) to swear–won’t even say “damn.” He’s not your typical teenager in that respect. I don’t think he’s naive–I’m sure he’s seen things and knows things. He just doesn’t partake in anything he’s not comfortable with. From all I’ve seen and heard of him and from him, his Dad’s influence in that respect is no more than any parent’s influence on their child. Even his Dad has said that David has a mind of his own–he’s independent and a bit stubborn. He does or doesn’t do things because it’s his choice.

  • hermy

Yeah, David just doesn’t let himself be corrupted. Maybe though, he will let go a little as he tours.

  • frogcooke

yeah Lisa, David’s moral compass is his own. I dont swear never have.. I wont say the d word either.. Yet my dad swears and so does most of the family cept for my mom’s side lol I chose not to, too. lol

anyways here’s a funny McFly vid

this is from a Mcfly fan from the UK whos been following them:

    quote:
I have been a casual fan of this band since their beginning. They emerged in 2004 as a sort of very teeny pop rock band (very much like the Jonas Brothers) and had a couple of hits off their first album which set them up (Ive played and sung one of them live in school for a christmas concert haha). Since then, as they have got older album after album, they have emerged into a far more serious and authentic band, still clutching to their pop/rock roots but giving it more edge and authenticity. They grew out of their teeny pop days successfully, left their original label and their latest album (produced, recorded and released all by themselves, funded by corporate sponsers such as McDonalds and Pepsi) has been a major success and their credibility has grown alot amongst well, everyone. I have always liked them personally but as theyve grown older, many others have joined me, alot of people (males) of my age.

I think its a perfect matching for David. They have a very similar demographic and I have to hand it to McFly, they have really gone from strength to strength and developed and grown where other similar bands couldnt. Im also impressed with the venues and the placement too. The Hammersmith Apollo is pretty much the most prestigious theater venue in the UK. Everyone has played there.

  • hypertwink

Whatever happens, it’ll make Archie grow up a little and be more exposed to other influences. Who knows, maybe he’ll find inspiration in Europe. Or maybe, have a stellar following there as opposed to the States. I mean, like Kings of Leon (who I love) but their reception here is nothing compared to the following they have in Europe.

  • tinawina

Sounds like they have a fanbase somewhere in Archie’s range, minus the taste for nakedness. Could work out well!

I hope he loosens up a little. The band sounds like a kick. He should have some fun while he’s young, get a little wild once in his life. Yes, I am a bad influence. HA! It will give him some more things to write songs about, that’s for sure.

And no, that Lady Gaga song has NOTHING to do with the club hopping experiences of my past life. Nope. Not one bit. :drunk_tb:

    Sharpies for everyone!

Just a correction – McFly is very much a pop-rock band (I suppose the equivalent of your Jonas Brothers), whose fans are largely teenage girls. Very little punk about them.

Punk/Pop bands have very little true “punk” in them. The bands I used as examples have fan bases made up largely of teenage girls, but not exclusively. I’m not sure how much cross-over with Archie’s current fanbase is there at the moment, that’s why I think it’s a good opportunity to stretch his fan base. His peeps are probably thinking along those lines.

I listened to a few of their tunes and watched their videos. One actually had a parental disclaimer on it. Not very Jonas-Brothers like.

  • amiroamor

and I just noticed that Jonas Brother covered one of their songs à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“What I Go To School Forà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    and also Year 3000

  • Jabkmc

    I’m amused. heeeee! :lol_tb:

And excited for him. It’s such a fun thing to follow someone with such amazing raw talent and potential and watch their progression from the beginning. Dang! Just look at how far he’s come in the last year. He’s a frickin’ sponge. But, he’s never once, been anything other than David.

And, in case you didn’t know, I love him to pieces. :wub_tb:

LOL. Well, if you think about it, though, if DA wasn’t doing this he would still be in high school and living at home. He wouldn’t be venturing off into the real world until later this year when he would have gone off to college.

  • hypertwink

Think about it. After the UK Tour, we’ll see Archie tearing off his shirt and stalking the stage sans top. :blink_tb:

I’ll just be happy if the boy doesn’t recoil in horror at a pair of panties being thrown at him. Or squirm when touched. LOL! He doesn’t have to become a full fledged heathen, just relax a teeny tiny bit. Maybe even learn to LIKE the occasional fan-panty throwing. That would make me very happy. Heh.

  • Hazehel

I listened to a few of their tunes and watched their videos. One actually had a parental disclaimer on it. Not very Jonas-Brothers like.

Different country, different standards. I have no idea what gets a parental disclaimer slapped on in the States, but I’m sure you’d be shocked/surprised at what can get shown in UK on public broadcast TV stations.

I haven’t paid much attention to McFly before, although I do remember some blurbs last year about them getting more adult in their music with their new album. I just had a listen to a couple of tracks, and well, they are certainly aiming for an older audience, but only just a couple of years older. Looks like they are trying to grow old in line with their fans.

I just noticed that I can actually go to a couple of the venues listed – one within walking distance, another one I often walk passed in another city. Very unlikely that I’ll go to a McFly concert though.

  • hardkandy

Wow this is good for Archie! McFly is awesome (they’re like FOB, only a million times better)… and they’re mighty popular in UK from what I hear.

  • ozarka

Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s up with the Brits and their obsession with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“nekkednessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s that actor who plays Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, who gets naked during his stage role in the play Equus. Then thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Jamie Oliver who debuted here in the States on the Food Channel as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Naked Chef.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ To this day, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know why they called the show that. He never once got naked. Haha! And even during Crush Night, one of the shows being featured was a British import called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Naked Brothers Band.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ But you can be sure there will be no actual nakedness going on there since ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on the Nickelodeon channel. Haha!

  • frogcooke

LOL ozarka haha. I STILL dont know why its called the Naked chef…. Ive always wondered…

  • Jabkmc

Because he only cooks with the basics…nothing fancy. The BARE essentials. A few simple ingredients. Naked food. haha!

  • Kirsten

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll just be happy if the boy doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t recoil in horror at a pair of panties being thrown at him. Or squirm when touched. LOL! He doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to become a full fledged heathen, just relax a teeny tiny bit. Maybe even learn to LIKE the occasional fan-panty throwing.

I recoil in horror every time a pair of panties are thrown and they aren’t being thrown at me. LOL. So gross. So 70s. So innappropriate for grown women to throw them at a minor. [shudder] I’m with Archie on that one. I just don’t get it, nor do I see the humour in it. I’m not the only one either. I remember going to a concert of an Idol who will remain nameless (but you can probably guess who), and there were panties thrown on stage. The Idol took it in good humour, but some of the people I went with who weren’t fans (had been talked into coming to the concert by others who were) were totally weirded out and that’s all they could talk about afterwards. No new fans that night. Way to grab focus panty-throwers. I’m sure the Idol will date you now. LOL.

I’ve heard of McFly, but couldn’t tell you what they sang even if you threatened to pelt me with panties. It is interesting that Archie is touring the UK on a real tour. I don’t recall that ever happening before. Daughtry went to a few pubs. Kelly must of done some sort of European tour. Carrie’s big, but country doesn’t do all that well in Europe. I remember going to Legoland in Billund (the birthplace of Lego) and every time I went through “Western Land” (it was in the nexus of the park) the band was playing “Rhinestone Cowboy”. I had to conclude that was the only country song they knew.

  • Niall

Jeff will be there within arms reach of Archie at all times. There’s no way he’s going to allow his golden goose to be left alone with the guys from McFly, who might try to give him “the talk” about birds, bees, and whatnot.

  • lizziehalfpenny

    Hiya-
well i’m from the UK. I’m 13 and have seen McFly twice. Am planning on seeing them in Manchester actually. McFly are not rude on tour, maybe the odd swearing
they are nothing like the Jonas Brothers. It really annoys me when they get compared to them.

  • ozarka

Hi lizzie! Thanks for stopping by. Did they get naked when you saw them?

nope- theyve only just got naked once or twice. n now they just have a reputation for it.

  • ozarka

Good. That makes me feel better. Thanks!

  • lizziehalfpenny

it’s alright. i just wanted to get the right message out about McFly. Their Last concert, Danny n Tom from McFly were ill. You could tell when they spoke… but when they sang, you couldnt tell that they were ill at all. Thats how good they are

  • ozarka

How do you feel about David Archuleta. Is he known there?

  • lizziehalfpenny

He is known but not that well known. Personally, i have only just heard of him but i know that some McFly fans like him. I have listened to a couple of his songs and i think that people over here will like him

I remember going to Legoland in Billund (the birthplace of Lego) and every time I went through à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Western Landà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (it was in the nexus of the park) the band was playing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rhinestone Cowboyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I had to conclude that was the only country song they knew.

LOL. Sorry it’s off topic, but I’ve totally been to Legoland in Billund. It was awesomeness… well, I was 11 at the time, so I’m not sure if that skewed my perception a tad.

I also thought it was a little strange that DA was doing a real tour in the UK but it says to me that Jive is serious about marketing him there. They aren’t just throwing the record out in the hopes that it’ll catch on (because the UK is far too tough of a market to crack for that to work). I think Jordin did promotional (TV, radio) appearances in the UK around the time No Air came out there. I can’t remember (and I’m too lazy to look it up) but Jordin may have been scheduled to tour the UK with Alecia Keys when her vocal chord problems took her off tour.

I wonder if they’ll schedule any promotional appearances for him while he’s touring.

I was checking out some of the messages on the McFly boards…they range from “Who?” to “Wow!” to a couple of “meh”s to a few “maybe someone should warn him (DA) about some of the antics they get up to”…here are a few reactions from the McFly fans…. haha!

    never heard of him…
    *runs off to youtube*

    Seriously?
I have no idea who he is but I’ll check him out (not like that duh) now.

You’d be forgiven for chekin’ him out he’s seriously hot!

Im actually getting really excited! but getting tickets for this is going to be even more of bitch now. argh!

i’ve seen him in concert… on the idol tour… he’s a FANTASTIC vocalist. this tour is basically my two favorite music acts in one.. so i’m kind of freaking out right now. running around… screaming… shouting… calling everyone i know… etc.

did you see him in the US then? Im listening to his cover of Angels at the moment. Its beautiful.

    oh .. my .. god!
he’s one of my favourite musicians ever.
like, oh my god. *teenie moment*
i’ve been dying to see him in concert and now .. i am!
wow, this is just, wow. i don’t know what to say.
when i saw this i started to cry! haha i’m lame, but woah.

I AM GOING TO SEE DAVID ARCHULETA IN CONCERT MAN!!!!!!!!
    EXCITED!!

  • ozarka

Ironically, David will be touring here in the U.S. with Lesley Roy, who happens to be from Ireland. It’s sorta like the international student exchange program. :laugh_tb:

  • frogcooke

    ^^ student exchange, heh.

  • houstonrufus

    Ozarka, I like that. ha!!

  • noctem seizure

McFly is nothing like the JoBros. And this is an utterly bizarre pairing. I fail to see how helps either act. It’s Europe, so it’s not like DA is a hot commodity even among tweens and teens over there at this point. Also, I doubt there’s that many crossover fans between the two across the pond or that DA’s music is going to have tons of appeal to European McFly fans.

Now if he could have gotten on the bill with JoBros stateside, THAT would have been massive. Failing that he should try to get an undercard to Miley or one of the other Disney singers.

  • frogcooke

lol noctem… well apparently he is supposed to be filming an episode of hannah montana soon.

McFly is popular in the UK, David in the US. And pairing them up could introduce each others fans to the others music. Expanding fans both ways for both. I dont think its all that odd. Im excited for it!

  • susie

Heheh, you guys are so funny! (that’s part of the reason why I LOVE this site so much!!!)

Anyone else wondering if we ought to be concerned for the McFlys? There have been ongoing reports of people being profoundly influenced by our boy. Might I interest you in a sharpie, Mr. McFly?

  • frogcooke

Naw they’ll all be fine susie hahaha

Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no way Jeff wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be joining David overseas. First of all, who really believes that Jeff would miss the opportunity to personally see his son debut overseas? Secondly, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve always had the impression that David sincerely wants his Dad at his side. He doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t consider him a burden. As heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s alluded to many times, he wants to be surrounded by those who have his back and donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t use him for financial gain or take advantage of himà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦people who keep him grounded. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still too young to understand the business side of things à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s where Jeff comes in. I also agree with those who say that David is his own moral compass. That said, Jeff (and Lupe) instilled those morals and values in him which played a very big part in developing that compass that has so endeared us to him.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy to hear heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be touring with McFly. I think it will be an eye-opening experience for him in more ways than one. And while I applaud Jive and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹the Teamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ for keeping David in the public eye, I am a bit concerned about burn out. The poor kidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s barely had a break since the start of AI. I get that this is what he wants to do and I realize that breaking the momentum can be detrimental in the early stages of establishing a career, but the body (and dare I say the voice) is going to betray you at some point.

  • susie

I don’t know, frogcooke…our David is pretty formidable. heheaheh!

I just watched a McFly video about a girl with colors in her hair. it was fun! They are good musicians; i love their harmony. Their sound reminds me far more of the Beatles than the JBros.

I’m excited for David to have this opportunity! He said on AI that he loved international music, and I think the international music world is going to love him!!!

  • Kris

I am very excited about this. I don’t know who Mcfly is but it seems like they are big over in the UK. This is great exposure for David. I’m glad to see that it seems like Jive is serious about marketing him in the UK. I was wondering if he was going to be doing anything to promote the release of the album. Heck, maybe David will do well enough that eventually he will tour there on his own.

  • LK09

Don’t worry Niall… David may be very sweet but he knows all he needs to know about the birds and the bees and has made a conscious choice to wait until he gets married. It is more likely he will influence the McFlys.

As far as his dad, he loves his Dad and is happy to have someone there for him, as others have stated. Close families are like that.

  • jjcoolgal891

^^^David may be sheltered but hes not stupid. He knows about all of those things.

  • mcflylover

The UK does not have an “obsession with nekkedness,” they just feel more comfortable with it. They don’t make a big deal out of it, or swearing, or any of the things that people here in the US would call dirty or need to slap a parental advisory on. McFly are wicked and I wish they would come to the US because people here would love them.

And I’m so sick of people comparing them to the JoBros. They are nothing alike. Two completely different types of music and fanbases. I must agree that this is a way weird pairing of Mcfly and David. I’m thinking he might be a little scared haha.
You never know what you’re going to get when you’re around those crazy Mcfly boys :)

  • cmom

I doubt that David is scared. He has told us that he follows the music scene in the UK has for many years and I have no doubt that he knows all about McFly and how they have done on the charts and what their songs are and everything. David has been called a walking jukebox and questioned about where he got all his “musical knowledge” and we know it is from his intense interest in all music of all kinds from anywhere.

  • E

I’m happy and excited for David! I think UK will love him, especially his voice!

I just checked MCFly and no they are nothing like JB. MCFly have better songs and an older sound and lyric, unless JB also have girl’s underwear reference in their songs?

Well this will be his first time going abroad, I’d be shocked if Jeff doesn’t go along. but please Jeff I beg please at least stay out of the cameras, interviews and such because if that continues, some may get the impression you don’t trust your son to handle himself.

Is not that we dis like Jeff, at least aI don ´t thinks so, is just we don ´t want him in the front so much in stage, stay in the dark please Jeff, please… and beside, I still think going overseas at 18 alone it would be so cool for Archie…

  • E

I don’t think David is scared of the McFly boys, more likely, they’ll all end up becoming good friends. a lot of people end up liking David after meeting him in person and what more if they are going to spend almost a month in each other’s company. I hope he also gets the time for sightseeing. I can’t wait for him to blog about this!

Jeff is co managing David with a guy from Azof. Well, let the other guy go with David to UK lol …if Jeff still needs to go, then just remember to put on the invisibility cloack.

…McFly’s songs are so damn catchy! My current fav is “Obviously”

  • Lexus

Sorry, Cruzceleste, I didn’t mean to imply in my post that I thought anyone was claiming to dislike Jeff. I agree that if David were to travel overseas on his own, he’d get along perfectly fine. He may come off as innocent and naive, but I think he’s much wiser and capable than perceived. I think the time will soon come where David will be taking full reigns with regard to his career. You can already see his comfort level and confidence growing with each and every interview, media event and meet and greet. That said, I don’t think he’ll ever tire of having family around him and accompanying him on this journey.

  • Suzanne

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m with you, Cruz! Jeff, please stay home!! Or stay off the stage at least!!

Agree–Jeff needs to find a way to be out of camera range/not in studios with David.

I know that it gets complicated b/c Jeff is also David’s co-manager, and normally, managers are anonymous people we don’t recognize. But we all do know him and he just looks like he’s hovering over a little kid when he’s so close to David. Did you see the pictures from Mardi Gras? Jeff must have been not five feet away from David when David was throwing beads to the crowd. He’s in all the pictures w/ his baseball cap.

And in Florida, on Ryan Seacrest’s show, Ryan said “David Archuleta is here with his Dad.” That paints such a different picture than “David Archuleta is here with his manager” or “David Archuleta is here” (because the manager is in the hall).

I wonder if Taylor Swift’s mom or dad is standing an arms-length away at every event she goes to?

  • frogcooke

Alot of his family was with him in florida, theres vid of him and his cousin on a roller coaster. His dad and sis was with him at the AI experience too. I think the only reason people notice he’s there and look for him is because of the whole AI thing..

McFly is great. I’m from the US, and I’ve been a fan since December ’06. David touring with them is great because both David and McFly will get exposure (hopefully). I’ve been dying for McFly to come to the US, and hopefully, they’ll get some more American fans because of this. Just like David can get some UK fans. :D

I just want to clear a few things up about McFly though…

Except I hear that they like to get naked on their tours. And do alot of other inappropriate antics…..

Ok, yes. They got naked once. It was a bet they had with their manager or someone. They were betting on whether they’d be #1, and if they were, they’d get naked on stage. So, they made #1, and they got naked… They usually only do things like this if they play at the G.A.Y. stage.

The only thing you can say is that there are bands/singers that caters primarily to teenage girls – like McFly, Busted (one member of this band later formed McFly, and I just noticed that Jonas Brother covered one of their songs à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“What I Go To School Forà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ).

No one from McFly was in Busted… Tom (the blonde lead singer) auditioned for Busted, and he didn’t get in. The record label liked him, so they let him hang out with Busted, and he actually helped write some of their songs. Later, some auditions were held, Tom met Danny (the other lead singer) and later they met Dougie (bassist) and Harry (drummer) on the same day at the same audition. They’ve been a band since like Septemeber 2003.

I love these guys, and it’s great that David’s touring with them. I just wish they’d tour in the US…

  • mcflys_stargirl217

So, the block qoutes I tried to put in my post didn’t really work with me… But, I hope it’s clear…
