ETA: David Archuleta performed live in Beverly Hills yesterday for AOL Live Sessions according to this site. His performances will debut around the time of the album release–11/11. He performed: “My Hands,” “A Little Too Not Over You,” “Touch My Hand,” “Crush” and “You Can.”

David Archuleta will appear in this week’s People magazine answering fan questions.   The issue will be on newsstands this Friday.

Here are a few questions he answered:

  • What are your plans for your 18th birthday? I don’t have any. It would be nice to be home and spend time with my family and friends. But it’s so weird–I don’t feel like I’m, like, growing up.
  • What’s the biggest trouble you’ve ever got in? When I was little, my sister and I would escape from the yard, to to the lake by our house and catch ducks. So my parents built a fence, but we found a hole, made it bigger, and espcaped through it.   Our curiosity got the best of us.
  • Do you and Idol winner David Cook keep in touch? I keep in touch with a bunch of the contestants.   Cook texts me now and then.   He’s like my big brother.   He gives me advice like “Don’t be afraid to try this” and “Always stand up for yourself.” That’s really cool.
  • Will you ever collaborate with a rapper? If it’s the right song, lyric and rapper, why not? I’ve always liked Missy Elliott.   She’s not afraid to be different and is really creative.

  • frogcooke

LOL he used to escape from the yard and catch ducks LOL

  • abbysee

His honesty is so refreshing. I love the fact that he loves Missy Elliot! Go Archie, Missy, phone Archie, he’s waiting. Maybe he can keep you from those dreaded Pussycatdoll people!

  • Tony

Archuleta likes Missy Elliott??? NICE! I’ve always loved her growing up. I still love the “Miss E…So Addictive” album.

  • ealbino

OMG…I think I may have heart problems watching AOL Sessions live.. LOL

I love all the songs he’s singing on sessions especially Crush, ALTNOY, You Can. My other two favorite are BARRIERS and Your Eyes Don’t Lie.

and…Thank you Jeff for giving us Angels like we know David is capable of doing!!

  • IGetCranked

Why do I find the thought of Archie catching ducks so funny?

  • cruzceleste

I can ´t wait for the AOL Session… My Hands and ALTNOY,are my two favorites songs in his album so far…I have this crazy idea of him playing the guitar in ALTNOY…man I ´m dying…and tonight is Leno ´s night…

HE posted a new myspace blog:

    PERFORMANCE ON JAY LENO TONIGHT!

Heey Everybody. This week has been the week of band rehearsals, and it’s been awesome! Everyone in the band has been way cool so far, and I’ve had a lot of fun rehearsing my own songs! We have performances coming up pretty quick here, with Jay Leno tonight already. I’ve been really enjoying it so far, and am looking forward for what’s coming up! It’s also getting pretty close to the album release too, which I’m so pumped for. I can’t wait to see what you guys think of it, since I’ve been spending so much time on it heh. Anyway, I have things to share with what else has been going on besides the band and rehearsing. Before things begin to get really hectic and busy, I was able to have some free time and go to Six Flags Magic Mountain! I love that place. It’s like roller coaster heaven. I love X2, Tatsu, Goliath, and Riddler’s Revenge. All the roller coasters are pretty good there, actually. I just don’t like when your head bangs side to side on the twisty ones, it gives me a headache.
Another thing I got to do was go to the Jason Mraz concert at the Greek Theater! We were in the 4th row center and I had such a good time! Castro came along too, and it’s always good to hang with him. It’s great the way Mraz communicates with the crowd. He’s really witty and makes it feel a lot more up-close and personal conversation he’s having, despite the fact that there are thousands of people there. I loved when he did Only Human, The Remedy, Life Is Beautiful, No Stopping Us, and I’m Yours (of course.. ha…) Honestly I loved all of them. Maybe I’m a little biased…. but I’m pretty sure all of the songs were just amazing. He did Oh Happy Day too! And that was sooo cool. K, I’m done with that now. We got the chance to talk to him for a little bit, even though he was getting MOBBED. It was really neat to see how friendly and laid back he was in person. You never know how people are going to be when you meet them, since they’re usually getting dragged all over the place and under a lot of stress. He kept his cool the entire time though, and I’m sure he’s been doing this for a while now. I had tickets for when he came to Utah on October 28th, but I had to do promotion stuff and couldn’t go :( . So I’m really glad I was able to go last Saturday! All rightyyyy… That’s enough of talking about that. If you haven’t gotten his new CD yet… you should really check it out :)
The last thing I’d like to talk about is something I did at the Universal City Walk. It’s this thing called iFly, and oh my heck! It’s roocks! You get to fly in a tube! I have a couple of pictures that I’ll put up. I was a little nervous at first, but it’s not even scary when you get in there. I kinda slobbered over myself, but that’s ok because it was totally worth it. I can’t really explain how it was because it was… just a really different experience. I guess it was kinda being like a bird or something… you just don’t move around a whole lot and you’re inside a tube. I guess I got a DVD of it… but I’m pretty sure I’m not going to show that haha. Anyway I’ve written quite a bit in this one, so I’ll try to get back later. 5 Days until the CD comes out!

P.S. I know I talked a ton about Jason Mraz, but I think that only makes it even more appropriate to share one of his songs today. So the song for today is A Beautiful Mess – Jason Mraz. It’s amaaazing when he does it live too!

    LOL only David….

  • ozarka

I love how David rambles on in his blogs. It’s as if he’s writing a letter to a close friend or family member. That’s what it feels like to me. He’s just so down to earth.

  • cruzceleste

LOL, I was specting him to be a big fan boy for Jason Mraz, and he didn ´t dissapoint me… hehehe his ramble about Jason Mraz was really funny…

I was able to have some free time and go to Six Flags Magic Mountain! I love that place. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like roller coaster heaven.

    I love roller coaster!!!!!!!!!

DANG IT… According to this poster in IDF, David Archuleta next single will be Touch My Hands…

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=583195

I don ´t like this,TMH was my last option for a single… I will raether hin doing My Hands,Barriers or ALNTOY….

    Why Jive? , WHY?????

  • JudyOhio

Maybe because it’s kind of an interaction song. The fangirls will love imagining him asking them to reach out as far as they can, reach out….touch his hand, etc. Don’t know how that will do on radio though, as it doesn’t reach out to his male fans or general fans, just the young gals. It may not have legs because of a more limited audience. I would have prefered a different 2nd single.

  • ozarka

The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“If David were presidentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ article at Snarky Archies is over the top hilarious!! Those gals are sooo creative and witty. There are whole slew of good ones, but here are a few of my favoritesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

If David were president… There wouldn’t be a Swearing In ceremony because… he doesn’t swear.

If David were president… We wouldn’t have to pay taxes. His concerts would generate enough revenue to run the country!!!

If David were elected president… He would say, “Are you sure Cook didn’t win because he is so awesome. Are you sure you want me! Haaaah thanks!!!

If David were president… Peace talks would just be David talking (rambling…lots of laughing, and some random singing thrown in) while everyone looks and listens in amazement and then wonders what they were doing there in the first place. Love would be everywhere.

If David were president… Jive would finally fix his MySpace.

If David were president… The name of the nationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s capital will be changed to Washington D.A.

If David were president… The only Castro we’d be worried about would be Jason. (As in, when is Castro’s album coming out? Geeez)

If David were president… Press conferences would go on and on and on…partly because he rambles, partly because he wouldn’t want to leave before every single reporter got their every question answered, and partly for the TV ratings numbers they’d generate.

If David were president… No one would have to mow the White House lawn. Millions of tourists would pluck blades of grass and press them in their scrapbooks. Awwwww

If David were president… he’d still take time to text his fans and the texts would go something like this:
“Hey everybodyyyyyy, it’s President Archuleta hereeeee. This most powerful man on earth thing is keeping me crazy busy but it’s soooo fun haha. I’m learning sooo much and getting to visit a lot of cool places. When I was in Honduras, I got to visit some of my mom’s family and we had a fun time playing video games and just hanging out and I ate like a ton of food. I’m still working on my second album, but I have to fit it in between meetings lol. Well, that’s it for now. I’ll talk to you guys later haha. Peace.”

I’m not jumping up and down that this will be the next single (and the source is actually All Access), but I don’t think it has that type of limited appeal. The lyrics are “young affection” like Crush, but the structure and build of the song are more musically complex than Crush. It’s almost got a Coldplay-type vibe to it. Or maybe The Fray. He doesn’t use a lot of runs, and actually sings most of it straight. Its instrumentation is also more interesting than Crush’s instrumentation. It’s different. It’s not the most mature lyrics, but musically, it’s not a tween or teen song. If anything, I think adults will like this more than Crush, especially those who, like me, concentrate more on the melody than the lyrics.

BTW, it impacts top 40 on 12/9 and Hot AC on 12/8.

As for Crush, I’m a little surprised that they didn’t try and push it through to the new year, but it does make a bit of sense. I think it’s obvious now that radio stations knew there was a new single on the horizon, and hence Crush is slowly losing spins. They didn’t increase the song after the promotional tour, and that’s probably when Jive started pushing TMH. Crush reached #12 (#11 on the non-published chart), which is about where Viva La Vida got, so I’m pretty cool with that. It’s still climbing on Hot AC and AC. Timing got bad for this song, though, when it reached top 20. CHR was fine until then, but in the past month or so, there have been tons of new smash-type singles released from established artists with new albums coming out. It’s much more competitive this year than it was last year with Jordin released Tattoo. And I think that’s partially why Light On is going slow.

Releasing a 2nd single now isn’t unusual either–Crush has been out for over 3 months now. And it’s not as if Crush is going to die tomorrow. It’ll stay on CHR for a little while. I never thought Crush was intended to be the most successful single on his album. It remains to be seen what TMH can do. It’s an odd choice, but I suppose there was some reason Jive chose it. A lot of nonfans on other boards like it.

  • JudyOhio

Soundscene….don’t get me wrong….I do like the song structure and music……especially when the louder part comes in at …”don’t let the music stop” I was just speaking about the lyrics. To me, all of his songs are single potential. I’m a fan, what can I say. I still probably would have preferred a different second single, but Jive is da boss, and Jive sure as heck knows a lot more about it than I do, lol.

  • LK08

If David were president.. That makes me a little less grumpy today. :)

  • hermy

LOL. David, catching ducks as a childhood pastime is a bit odd. he’s adorkable. I hope Leno tonight goes well

  • Kirsten

As for Crush, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a little surprised that they didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t try and push it through to the new year, but it does make a bit of sense.

I think the same thing applies here as applies to what I said about LO in the numbers thread yesterday. Jive has to make a decision about what kind of legs the think that Crush will have. They might have been able to keep its spins up until January, but then they would have had to start at the beginning during the January sales slumps.

This promo period gives Archie an excellent opportunity to feature his new single and get it primed for the charts so that it’s already doing well by January and will help to keep the album sales relatively high (well, that would be the plan, I think). The difference between “Crush” and “Tattoo” is that “Tattoo” took longer to reach the same chart position (and ultimately climbed higher). So, it was in a different stage of it’s lifecycle during the promo period. “Crush” climbed faster and pop songs generaly have a short shelf life once they become Top 40.

Jive may have pulled the plug a tad early on “Crush”, but they likely couldn’t pass up the chance to use the promo period to get out another song. I wouldn’t be surprised if he drops by Z100 to premier his new song while he is in New York for his promo tour. And if the song hits (and they’ve obviously been doing research on it (because we saw the leaks from RTM) so they think it will be a success), then that’s two songs that are a hit and people are often more likely to buy an album when they know there are multiple hits from it (might as well buy the entire album because they know they like a couple of them). Or so the theory goes.

I’m not going to say this will work, but I can see why Jive rolled the dice.

  • abbysee

When I first heard TMH I thought it was extremely radio friendly, so I am not surprised. Do I think it’s the best song on the cd, heck no. I expect that we will get at least 4 singles out of this cd. Could be more. I can’t wait to see him on Leno, and AOL sessions, yipee.

Reading David’s blogs is like having a pocketfull of sunshine, lol. He is a walking, talking, slobering, rainbow. I swear (cause I ain’t David) he really is love, lol.

I honestly think Jive got lucky with Tattoo going as high is it did. They kept it out longer because it wasn’t until December that it started to really sell well. And on CHR at that time it was like the battle of the falling bullets–Tattoo happened to do well in that area even though it wasn’t necessarily gaining significant amounts each week. It was a different time and a different chart. For one thing, the top 2 songs didn’t have over 10,500 spins each (gah).

I’m not sure that David will be performing TMH on TV this week and next. That would mean we would tune into Leno tonight and instead of him performing Crush, he busts out TMH. Weird? Yeah. Maybe he will, and the thought crossed my mind. He’s definitely performing it at every one of the Jingle Balls and Jingle Jams. And on AOL Sessions. But do you really see them switching gears right now and pulling out a song for these appearances that nobody’s heard before? Will that really sell more albums?

  • Kirsten

I would be kind of shocked if he didn’t sing TMH for at least his second song (on those appearances when he gets to sing two songs). They might also have him sing different songs on shows which share many of the same viewers. Having him sing TMH at least a few times on tv will give it good promo for when it goes for ads in a couple of weeks (I expect it will start getting spins soon. Jive is quite on top of these things). It would form a nice bridge between the two songs.

He’s been an excellent opportunity to get one last promo kick for his first single and to kick start his second. The more I think about it, the more I think Jive is right about switching singles at this point (I’m not sure about the single, but I know they have a lot better track record with this stuff than me so I’ll sit by the side and watch).

  • shell29

I would be kind of shocked if he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sing TMH for at least his second song (on those appearances when he gets to sing two songs).

I could see something like that happening, but I doubt Archie will be performing TMH instead of Crush during this round of album promotion. Crush is the current single and it’s still in the Top 20 even though it’s showing signs of peaking. Digital download sales are still steady, so it really doesn’t make any sense (in my opinion) to scrap promotion of Crush completely when they can still squeeze some more sales out of it.

As for the choice of TMH as the second single, I think there were stronger choices on the album (Barriers!) but maybe they’re saving the big guns for later? I don’t know. Hope it works out for Archie and that it will be enough to sustain album sales for him after the fanbase buying is exhausted.

  • soundscene

^^ He’s just singing one song tonight on Leno. I guess we’ll find out which direction they’re going.

  • E

I read the “if David were president” at snarky, that was hilarious couldn’t stop laughing! those girls are crazyyy

  • RV65

Is it usual for a song like Crush which was only performed live once (Ford Day) to become that popular?

  • LK08

shell29- I am amazed at how steady Crush has been. It sure seems like when selling 50,000 every week for weeks, that it still has some legs, especially if he hasn’t sung it live (except for the private things on Ford Day) yet. I guess it will be nice to keep it going at least to platinum by singing it at those Jingle Balls/jams.

  • cooktard76

The most trouble he ever got into was chasing ducks? lol, I love this kid. My son is 10 and has already gotten into way more mess than that.
