Unfortunately, you have to wait for the song to come on. So, you’re gonna have to listen to a bunch of other songs first.

ETA: Or, you can listen here:

ETA:  I can hear the song, with it’s catchy, propulsive chorus on car radios this summer.  It’s set to go for radio adds on July 26.  The tune will be available for purchase at David’s music store on July 13, at iTunes on July 20.

Congrats to Archie. Very happy / bobby song.

  • thebluemartini

It ended up being the first song for me!
    Really fun song!

  • ComeBack2Me

I like it. I don’t think it will be as big as “Crush”, but it will still do well.

  • frogcooke

    LUURRVVEEEE!!!! /stan moment

I actually like it better than crush. LOL (thats what all stans say) but really i do. its more fun and upbeat and yeah!

  • chelley

YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! When, oh WHEN, can we buy his album already???

  • JudyOhio

Wow, you are quick MJ; you got right on this! Thanks! I’m at the site right now and Alejandro by Gaga is playing right now. How many are on this playlist. Am I going to have a long wait? lol, I’ll guess I’ll just wait for it to come up. Whoa…it’s on….be back later after listening!

eta: Okay, just listened. Bottom line, I like. It’s going to take a few listens to take it all in. The low voice toward the end took me by surprise, didn’t sound like him at first. Will listen some more. I want to listen more closely to the lyrics too.

  • Junior

I still don’t understand the appeal of electronic sounding voices. For someone with as stellar a voice as David Archuleta, why is there a need to run his vocals through a device to give him that electronic voice sound? It’s not like he needs the auto-tune, so it must be intentional to give him a particular vocal sound?

This is one of the major reasons why i don’t care for today’s pop music.

  • blmetsfan

It’s so overproduced, but that’s what works on pop music, so I’m not surprised. I don’t like it as much as Crush, but it seems to be a decent song.

  • idolfan92

It came on first thing for me! And it’s amazing!! I especially love the bridge and ending!! Ahh I think this is going to be a big hit :) I can’t wait to buy this, and his album!

  • frogcooke

Its mainly just for effect. But I like it haha

  • terps

Not a fan of this song

  • kmd

Loved the song. Think it will be a big hit for Archie. It is better than most of the pop music on the radio. I think it will do even better than Crush.

  • dhunken

I like it. I don’t like the auto-tuneing throughout but I guess that is what is in today. Its just David’s voice is amazing and doesn’t need all the gimmicks. I think it has a Crush appeal. So it should be a hit. Now I hope radio agrees with us. Its def a song that grows on you the more you listen the more you enjoy it. Very catchy “Somethin bout Love” Ok I know it maybe too soon but does anyone have the lyrics Yet! :-)

  • sleepinin

I really like it. It sounds young and fun and also still sounds like Archie and I think it will do really well on the radio.

  • JNM

Not too bad. I like the verse and the build up to the chorus, but the chorus is sort of a let down.

    Song is catchy though.

  • Pam

It’s a really good song. I’m not a big fan of autotune either but I think it has the potential to do well.

  • Kirkee

This song does nothing to highlight his amazing voice.

That said I kind of like it.

  • frogcooke
  • kimk

    omgosh!

Still in shock as I did not expect David to go techno…..
    …….but I LOVE IT!
wow…. have been around for two years & love all he does & he never ceases to amaze me…
no take it back……..surprise the heck out of me!
ha…. need to listen again and kudos to you David Archuleta for doing the whole enchilada!

  • frogcooke

I like that he uses his range in the song. haha. Was not expecting that in the bridge. But its awesome for sure. For me for you.

  • ggdoorsfan

i dig this song – wow, i think it sounds amazing, in production and david in his vocal delivery – yessss

  • KathyH

Love this song! Yes, there’s some techno stuff in there but David’s voice is still pretty much highlighted.

  • ggdoorsfan

hmmmmm – this song is fiiiirrrrrrrreee…. top 40 ready, imo…

  • TrudyFOD

WOW — David Archuleta does it again!!! Comes out with an awesome & amazing song — I love it!!!! David’s vocals are superb — WOOT There is Something Bout Love of David who continues to surprise fans and the music world.

  • alxsavage

They are totally trying to go for the bubblegum-like, tween friendly, Owl City sound.

I’m definitely not crazy about it, but I really hope it does well.

  • tinawina

Very cute and bouncy. I need to listen again, but I like it so far. I’m a little surprised by the sound of it because it sounds a little younger than I thought it would maybe? I don’t know how to say it. But it is really fun and catchy.

Now I want to see the video! He has to be having summer fun in it. Like at the beach! :)

    Go Archie!!!!

  • ggdoorsfan

@TomChau Just started playing David Archuleta’s new single on my station and the Twitter community goes crazy!
    3 minutes ago via web

  • JudyOhio

Imo, this is a perfect song for him (for pop radio). I hope it hits big!

  • abms

I LOVE this song! Can’t stop listening to it! It’s got a great beat to it and great to dance to! WOO HOO! It’s gonna be a HIT for sure. Congrats to David for co-writing this song as well!

  • ggdoorsfan

nothing bubblegum about this song, imo – this is right in the wheelhouse of the electonica/dance pop that is being played now – and the biggest surprise is that david archuleta is killing it… who would have thunk, lolol…

  • spring2009

I can’t see this going very far….lacking in many areas for me.

  • Kirkee

I’m actually surprised that people can make out his “amazing vocals” with all the overproduction! :)

  • violet4ever

dhunken – I’ll relisten at home with headphones but don’t hear any autotune. David hates autotune. I hear some reverb, some nicely placed bit of self-harmony, maybe some other filtering applied to his voice in spots, and a ton of fx on the accompaniment but even David’s descending arpeggio of sequential notes at the end of “the ride of your life” is something David can do without autotune – his live singing is sometimes full of little arpeggios (like in his live God Bless the Broken Road).

  • Trina

What I really like about this is its perfect for what is all over the radio now but its just so Archie! Right in his wheelhouse but also very current.

  • FREIDAG

It seems a bit too bubblegum and repetitive for me. Kind of like a Disney techno song.

But I’m happy that people are enjoying it! Oh the excitement of a new song!

  • JudyOhio

^^It may not be showcasing his amazing vocals, but I can certainly tell it’s DA right off the bat. And one good thing about David is that anything he records he can sing LIVE too! yeah!

  • Marylee

I’m crazy about this song! Loved it at first “snippet”!! I’m a huge fan of David’s lower register so “When you were young…scared of the night” makes me SMILE! It’s a different vibe than I expected from David but that’s what makes him so unique…always trying different things and a master at them all! Way to go, David…so happy & proud of you & blessed to be your fan! :)

  • mhel

YESSSSSS!!!I AM SOOOOOOOO HAPPY WITH THE SONG!!!I LOVE IT TO THE MAX!!! WHAT A GREAT SUMMER SONG!!!!IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOOOOOD!!!

    THANK YOU MJ!

    GO DAVID ARCHULETA!!!!

  • ggdoorsfan

It may not be showcasing his amazing vocals, but I can certainly tell it’s DA right off the bat. And one good thing about David is that anything he records he can sing LIVE
    too! yeah!

ain’t that the truth, lol… say whatcha wanna – this song has all the right ingredients to hit, and do it big… jive better bring their ‘a’ game to push this…

  • ozarko

I absolutely love it!!!! I like it even more than Crush. Yeah, there’s some electronica going on there, but that’s what today’s Top 40 radio likes to play these days. So whatever will make it a big hit is okay by me. I’m sure there will be other songs on his album which will better highlight his pure voice. But as the lead single to the album you have to have a Top 40 hit, at whatever cost. LOL.

  • tinawina

I don’t think it’s really bubblegum though. I think the sounds they are using make it seem like that, but those same sounds are in, like, Jason Derulo or Owl City songs. I think because Archie did the teen thing last time it may seem tweenier than it is, if that makes any sense.

BUT, it is a teen-friendly song. And it fits his personality… its kind of sweet and makes you smile.

  • KathyH

Ozarko, well said. This is what I hear on radio right now and should fit right in. Bet there’s plenty of diversity on the album.

  • OvenMitt

Hmm, this seems very generic, and too much robot voice. I thought the main asset David Archuleta had was his great voice, but they’ve bogged it down in too much over-production. So unneccesary. IDK, for an Idol who was so touted in his day, I never really hear him on the radio. Puzzling.

  • Duke

I like it. Not quite as good as crush, but i think it could make billboard top 10.

  • ggdoorsfan

I never really hear him on the radio.

in his day – give him a break, he’s only been in the game 2 years, lololol… and stick around – methinks that’s getting ready to change…. it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, and we’re feelinggg gooooooddddd :)

  • mhel

I WANNA BUY THE FULL ALBUM RIGHT ABOUT NOW!!!!!! JUST LOVE THIS FREAKING SONG……..!!!! SO AWESOME AND I DON’T CARE LESS WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY!!!!

PEACE! WOOO HOOOOO! GO DAVID ARCHULETAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • jms

This sucks. There’s hardly any melody. I don’t feel the “something about love” melody line until over halfway through the song. The electronic intro (first 15 seconds) is boring. It’s okay to go electronic (I love electronic sounds) but it should capture attention or establish a pulse in people’s minds. This just sits there. The opening verse (up to :40) is just as boring musically, lyrically AND vocally. David’s voice sounds clean but there’s nothing stunningly expressive or stunning musically about it. We’re now 40 seconds in and NOTHING has happened to capture anyone’s attention. Now the chorus comes on and, meh. It’s boring, typical stuff. Somewhat pleasant melody but nothing with any character to pull people in. Bottom line: He needs to work with better peeps.

  • Trillian

FYI Not an Archie fan, but given that, boring, generic, over-processed, not “Archie”, aiming for the lowest common denominator, i.e. pop mainstream. He can actually sing, why do this?

  • mhel

AHAHAHHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!! I’M ENJOYING THE SONG WOOOT!!!! SO LOVELY AND SO PLEASANT TO THE EARS!!!

THANK YOU MJ FOR POSTING WOO HOOO!!!

  • dhunken

dhunken – I’ll relisten at home with headphones but don’t hear any autotune.

I hear it at the very beginning and at one point in the middle maybe I am mistaken an its not auto-tune but some other gimmick. Its sound very similar to the sound of Owl City on Fireflies. So If it is not auto-tune I am sorry for saying the wrong verbiage but it is not (to me) David’s voice in its purity and its tampered with in some way were I almost don’t recognize that its him. So I am sorry if I was wrong about it being auto tune but I am not sorry for not liking them messing with David voice :-)

But it’s not pop mainstream. It’s like it’s what someone’s idea of what pop mainstream is.

  • mrsmaryfromnc

LOVE THIS SONG!!!DESTINED TO BE #1 HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kanadie Bonttell

It is a catchy song, and has radio hit potential, but I am personally disappointed that David was taken in such a electronica direction(hopefully the rest of his new album is not this electronica. I have never ever seen him as a electronica artist, pop yes, but the music in this is OTT and does not fit his vocals IMHO. I guess to me it cheapens his excellent voice.

  • ggdoorsfan

‘sniffs’ what’s that smell… smells like ‘hit’ :) the smell of ‘hit’ is music to my ears :)

What Junior said! UGH, catchy song, but WAY WAY overproduced, drowns out Davids beautiful full voice, sad to me :(

  • PB52

Perfect 1st single for David. Has all the right elements for CHR success. Great hook, incredible production. David definitely took a risk and it paid off.

The best dance single by an idol since MLWSWY.

  • ozarko

    @klssothl89:

Freaking out! they are totally playing @davidarchie’s new single something bout love on my radio station right now at work!

  • tinawina

I feel crazy or something. I didn’t hear all that much autotune.

    **off to listen again**

  • patsafan

I think it’s a current, radio-friendly song for David. He needed a song that’s going to get played on the radio, and this should do it!! I’m sure there is going to be alot more “pure” David voice on the album…and I’m sure people will find something wrong with that too. lol In the meantime…I love it!

  • kimk

PB52 I agree! Love that he went for it!

    Gosh…. the low part….yikes a killer!

  • ggdoorsfan

The best dance single by an idol since MLWSWY.

i agree – it’s risky, unexpected, and hits what it was aiming for… it’s current, catchy and an earworm… yes it is…

THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD!!!!LOVE IT TO PIECES…AHAHAHAHHAHA I’M NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!IN FACT,I AM SOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY LOL! SORRY GUYS!!!

  • kimk

    Don’t think it is autotune…
thinking perhaps he is using the effects as music… like other artist do?
Maybe folks are just not used to David doing it?
    wow!

Need to hear this in concert!!!!!!

  • JudyOhio

Trillian…I think David will have many years to share his music. He’s quite multi-faceted (Pop, Christmas classics, songs in Spanish, etc) and people know already that he’s capable of superior vocals. This particular song is just a nice, pop-radio friendly tune and is meant for a fun setting to sing along with in the car or dance to…..and stuff like that there, lol. He’s 19 and still feelin’ his youth. This is pretty much what I expected and am happy with it for him and his fans. Whether it will actually BE a hit or not, who knows, but it’s interesting to watch careers unfold and of course, being a fan, I hope his soars!

  • khomphuong

I can’t wait to hear this song played on the radio on the way to work everyday.

  • tinawina

Yeah, I listened again. No autotune, I think it’s like an echo or something in some of the parts. Like their trying to make him sound… spacey? Airy? I dunno… but it works for the song, and its not that much of it.

  • abms

This is a great song for the radio! David has got great vocals no matter what type of song he chooses to sing. It’s gonna be a HIT!!

  • jms

wow, all this love for this song makes me think I need to get my ears checked. lol well, I’m glad he’s making so many of you happy anyway. Wish I could feel the same. I am happy that he went with some electronic sounds and am hopeful that there might be other songs on the album that I’ll like better.

  • kingmikol

I only heard a few spots in the song with processed vocals. Everyone in pop has it done in at least a couple of their songs.
However, this song should do quite well if it is promoted by his record company :)

  • mhel

WHOA OH OH OH! CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO THIS FREAKING SONG!THIS IS THE BOMB!!!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS DAVID ARCHULETAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

  • OvenMitt

in his day – give him a break, he’s only been in the game 2 years, lololol… and stick around – methinks that’s getting ready to change…. it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, and we’re feelinggg gooooooddddd

Well, two years is a long time to have had only one hit song on the radio. And honestly, they don’t play his music on the radio in my area. Maybe it’s different in your area.

  • patsafan

Heck…If Your Love is My Drug can be hit, I don’t see any reason this can’t. This is better than alot of songs playing on the radio! LOL

  • Joyed

I really like it :)- it has such a feel good beat and vibe. It also sounds like it would be great live.

My fav part right now is the “whoah-oh-oh-oh” hook.

    So excited for him!

  • ggdoorsfan

Well, two years is a long time to have had only one hit song on the radio. And honestly, they don’t play his music on the radio in my area. Maybe it’s different in your area.

that was then – this is now… it’s a new era, a new beginning, and here’s hoping you hear it so much in your area it’s frightening, lol

  • ultimatetrip

Well, two years is a long time to have had only one hit song on the radio. And honestly, they don’t play his music on the radio in my area. Maybe it’s different in your area.

even if David was starting from zero, he would be still a teenager, so who cares? if he was 30 or close to 30 and trying to consolidate his career, then it would be hard, but it’s not the case. David is a very young guy doing young music and I can tell he’ll have a great career in his hands. Excited for this era!

  • leome

    it’s risky, unexpected,

I think risky would be doing something different. This is totally expected.
I think this is just another song like the ones he had before but with a remix. It could belong to Bieber. David just has a much better voice and he doesn’t sound like a girl. But it’s aimed at the same audience and just as young.
I think it could do great on radio. It reminds me of FYE, there’s something about it that doesn’t grab. The verses probably.

  • girlygirl

This song falls right into line with the type of stuff that is very popular on Pop radio right now. In fact the very beginning sounds like something off a Jason DeRulo cut. It’s catchy and has crossover (to CHR/rhythmic format) appeal. This isn’t the most interesting song lyrically, but that’s not really a big deal when it comes to Pop hits.

I’m not crazy about it, it’s a little too generic — but I do think it’s got potential to be a big hit.

  • hoosiermama

I wasn’t paying attention–who wrote this song? David with….? Thanks.

  • FREIDAG

This is better than alot of songs playing on the radio! LOL

Don’t we all think that about our favorite Idol’s song though? LOL! :)

  • ultimatetrip

By the way…I LOVE the song,it is tailor made for CHR format and for the young audience of course. It’s having a great response out of the Idol bubble too, which is awesome!

  • patsafan

Freidag…sure, but I like alot of other Idol’s music too…and frankly most of the songs that come from Idol contestants are better than most non-Idol performers. At least we know they can all actually sing! LOL

  • ggdoorsfan

it’s risky in that it’s a sound no one would have associated with him – remember the old erroneous meme of david only as ‘ballad boy’, lol… there are people who have grown accustomed to hearing david sing in a certain style, and never would have thought he’d come at ‘em like this… it causes you to look at him in a different light… his vocals aren’t going anywhere, they’re his money, people know that… but to pull out a song like this, one he co-wrote and jive signed off on releasing, which not every alum gets to do, signals to me a confidence that the song is a strong contender for success… risky for david – and jive, but i’m prepared to wait and watch it all play out…

  • JudyOhio

right gg, and remember how they made fun of him with the………
I need ya boo….(sorry, lol). Yes, they had him pegged as ballad boy for sure.

  • ggdoorsfan

Don’t we all think that about our favorite Idol’s song though? LOL!

it’s more true about some songs than others – no way to really know what’s going to happen, but i’m ready for it all…

  • sr4mjc

Freidag…sure, but I like alot of other Idol’s music too…and frankly most of the songs that come from Idol contestants are better than most non-Idol performers. At least we know they can all actually sing! LOL

Ain’t that the truth! Too bad it’s not a requirement for all radio, sigh..

  • music78girl

I think this is a great summer song and a strong lead off for Archie’s new album. The use of effects does tend to obscure some of his powerful vocal ability but didn’t we all learn on AI that not every song has to be full of power notes and vocal acrobatics?

I think it’s fun and it will likely get good play on the radio as long as it’s marketed correctly. Nice to see Archie showing that he’s not just a ballad singer — although I would be shocked if there aren’t a few knock-your-socks-off ballads on the upcoming album. That guy has a VOICE and he can sing the heck out of a song, as he has proven time and again.

  • sanduskyday

I like it. It’s less overproduced and electronica sounding than Lambert’s songs and his songs do well on pop radio. So yeah, i think this one has a good chance to be played.

  • houstonrufus23

Ok, I’ve finally been able to listen. I REALLY like it. I know. I know. I’m a fan. But out of the gates, I wanted David to come out with a marketable song that would fit on pop radio. This seems to accomplish that. It is young, very catchy. It fits in with the dancey pop songs that seem so popular right now. He’s 19. I want him singing young music.

I don’t know what this indicates, just a personal observation, but I did NOT take to Crush immediately. I immediately latched on to this melody, especially the chorus. I have my fingers crossed for David.

  • tinawina

Heck…If Your Love is My Drug can be hit, I don’t see any reason this can’t.

Now THAT’s whose using those sounds. Not Owl City so much, its Ke$ha! She’s got those electro xylophone(?) sounding things too. Like a Casio keyboard. LOL

This song falls right into line with the type of stuff that is very popular on Pop radio right now. In fact the very beginning sounds like something off a Jason DeRulo cut. It’s catchy and has crossover (to CHR/rhythmic format) appeal. This isn’t the most interesting song lyrically, but that’s not really a big deal when it comes to Pop hits.

girlygirl, I think you’re dead on.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com/ CindyM

I like it. :) I can’t see it going to rhythmic though, something a little too…sweet about it..lol. I think it will be a big pop hit, though.

  • leome

it’s risky in that it’s a sound no one would have associated with him – remember the old erroneous meme of david only as ‘ballad boy’, lol

Except between those days and now Crush and his album have happened. lol and I don’t think it matters for the radio listener what he sang on idol. The song is not risky at all.
For what’s worth, I don’t think any idol has risky songs anyway. Obviously this is just a copy of a couple of things that are hot right now.
It’s meant to be a single and be a hit. Risky can be other tracks on the album that aren’t probably meant to be singles. And those will be the interesting ones.

  • Truthiness

I hope the song does well, and I can see ways that it can, it certainly hits some very popular themes in pop music these days. I think the Owl City and DeRulo references are good ones. And yeah, I thought of Ke$sha’s Your Love Is My Drug, as well.

Though I have to say I wish I hadn’t read the comment comparing to Neverending Story song, because damn if it didn’t sound like that in the beginning. Luckily it didn’t stay there, but now I get exactly what that person was talking about. I agree.

Now personally I’m not a huge fan of the song. It’s just not enough of anything I like. It’s not terribly dancey, it’s kind of slow, I don’t think it really has a hook. Not earwormy for me at least. It’s not terrible, just forgettable to me and kind of generic.

Again, still wish nothing, but the best for Archie and happy for his fans. Always fun to have new music from your fave to enjoy. Can’t wait to see Archie’s name again with the big list of things like adds, airplay and itunes.

  • ggdoorsfan

Nice to see Archie showing that he’s not just a ballad singer — although I would be shocked if there aren’t a few knock-your-socks-off ballads on the upcoming album.

that hoss is dead and a-mouldering, lol… nothing wrong now in being able to sing a ballad well – david does that, and i love to hear him sing those, but there’s always been more depth and versatility to him as a singer than folks wanted to give him credit for… it’s not everyone’s cuppah, but i think it’s gonna get the job done.

  • JudyOhio

Can’t wait to see Archie’s name again with the big list of things like adds, airplay and itunes

Now, that is something I’m anxious for too!

  • shell29

After listening to this a second time with my headphones, I like this a lot more than I did after the first listen. I think Archie may have another hit on his hands. I don’t know if it’ll be as big as Crush, but I really think it’ll do very well. I’m hoping there will be other songs on the album that showcase that great voice of his, but this is a nice lead single for him IMO. I like this one quite a bit…it grows on you.

The song is not risky at all.

I agree…nothing “risky” about this song, and I think the success of Crush proved that Archie is more than just a “ballad” singer. I don’t think Something Bout Love is all that radically different from Crush, but that’s just me. I mean, it’s not a song that I wouldn’t expect Archie to sing.

  • ggdoorsfan

And those will be the interesting ones.

i can take it any way he wants to bring it, lolol… there’s real talent underneath it all, and that is what keeps watching david’s career so fascinating to me … just when you think you got him pegged, lol…

  • Kitwana

I love it. On first listen. Clearly Jive is not going for the Hot AC charts or the singer/songwriter feel with David’s next album. This song is perfect for that strategy because this song – whether you like it or not has a chance to do very well on Top 40 and maybe even Rhythmic.

“Robot voice” I think that’s the term someone up thread used to describe the sound of his vocals. We’re likely using “auto-tune” incorrectly, but it’s a definite robot voice sound that is so prevalent in today’s pop music. I dislike it immensely, but it’s insanely popular…can’t argue with that.

  • tomsuzuki

    1) i am a david archuleta fan

    2) i really like the song and the sound, i was personally a bit disappointed with crush and had this been his VERY first single i probably would have felt the same but after the general mediocrity of his first album, i think this is a step up.

    3) while i understand what folks are saying in regards to showcasing davids vocals, i think you would have to agree that there are very few singers who could actually pull this song off, especially live.

    4) i don’t think there is any auto-tune except maybe at the very beginning of the song, i don’t really understand doing this with davids voice, still the effect heavy arrangement does go with the rest of the song so…

    5) am i the only one who thought “late 80′s cher” when first hearing the song?

    6) i am a david archuleta fan and would love an album w/ only the likes of somebody out there and works for me on it but i understand that this isn’t necessarily what sells today, i just hope that there are tracks that i can REALLY enjoy on the album

  • SBC

Whoa, this is smack down in-your-face CHR song. I would be shock if this is not a hit. If Kris’ and Adams’ singles were solid hits, this should be a walk in the park for Archie.

  • houstonrufus23

One of the things, not being one of the “young” fans, that I found encouraging is that David was in Nashville again this week fine tuning songs for the album which tells me Jive is open to putting at least a few of the more “mature” songs on there. That kind of surprised me, as I thought Jive wouldn’t be receptive to anything but the pop. So, I’m hoping the album will showcase more variety and more of David’s talent. Trust me, there will be songs on there that show off David’s voice. That’s a no brainer. But being a good vocalist almost doesn’t matter on pop radio now. You need the production and the sound.

  • ggdoorsfan

i just hope that there are tracks that i can REALLY enjoy on the album

i got a feeling there are gonna be plenty of those on there too :)

  • Tess

I believe that Archie’s very large and very involved fanbase will work their fingers to the bones to get this song out there and listened to. I am sure I will hear it on my local radio station tomorrow since I live in Archie country.

I’m not a great judge of songs and their ability to move up the music charts so I’m not going to make any predictions for this one. I liked the song OK…didn’t always like the vocal distortion and the drums (rhythm/beat) seemed to be pretty repetitive…but I ain’t no music pro so can’t say if that will affect the success of the song.

I wish Archie all the best and hope his newest endeavors are well received. I just like the more mature sounding Archie better…just my preferance.

  • jammasta

    Holy HELLISH 80s, Batman!

I hate the 80s in music for the most part (For some reason, whenever I associate 80s with anything, I think of obnoxious electronic music playing with people with mullets, pants up to their ribs dancing, and more faded colors like on 80s TV shows. The horror. SOOO glad I was born at the end of 89 so I didn’t have to live through all that horror.)

It’s strangely cute. Holy hell. This goes against anything that I believe in. Why the HELL do I like this? It’s a bit too produced for me, usually.

….You know, I’d be kinda excited to hear an acoustic version or something without the drums and slowed down a bit. I dunno, it bears a “quite-vague-but-there” resemblance to Broken Open by Adam Lambert, and that is totally one of my favorite songs on his album.

Alright, bridge? Bring out the damn glowsticks and let’s freaking GO. Eek @ drum part to the “money chorus”, did not like that part so much.

Someone had to compare it to My Life Would Suck Without You, didn’t they? Thanks to you, I need new underwear. Both songs are pretty cool.

    DOWNLOAD. DOWNLOAD. WHEN?!

OH YES. Archie, for the love of God, get a freaking haircut, you look like a GRANDMA. You’re 19 and a dude. Archie and Alex Lambert should have a hair battle. Yeesh.

  • seattle

Holy heck! The production on this song is AMAZING!! Totally not what a lot of Archie fans would expect, I bet, but radio is going to eat this up with two spoons!

    I am sensing major smash.

  • ggdoorsfan

I believe that Archie’s very large and very involved fanbase will work their fingers to the bones to get this song out there and listened to.

we’ll definitely do our part – we wouldn’t be fans if we didn’t, lol… but it’s in jive’s court now to back and push this on radio to the hilt… david has done his part, the fans will do theirs, now it’s time for the label et al to brang it… and then the public will have their say… exciting times…

  • mhel

HOLY COW!!!!! THIS SONG IS AMAZING,ENOUGH SAID!!NO NEED TO ANALYZE EVERY PART OF THE SONG OR VERSE OR BRIDGE OR WHATEVS LOL!!!

STILL DANCING ON MY CHAIR WHOA OH OH OH!!!!

  • nspiredbycook

I am a huge David Cook fan (hence the user name) and have been lurking on here since season 7. I had to come on here and just say I am really excited for David Archuleta and his fans. This is such an exciting time! I think this song will definitely be a hit and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!

  • Esqt

I first heard the snippet and I like it, but my sis not much (well, a snippet can’t do justice). I’m not a big fan of Archie but I remember liking his pure voice during his idol run. This song is catchy and my gut tells me, like TikTok, long before it became a hit, has a Top40 stamp on it. Although, I was expecting a more mature-sounding songs from Archie, I actually like this more than Crush. I never heard of Crush until now, lol (Don’t care much about AI since Kelly until an anomaly graced the idolstage last year.). I looked it up and my first impression(sound-wise): Crush is more like Usher as Something ’bout Love, is more like Bieber. I guess, everyone wants a piece of Bieber fans. Can’t blame the moguls. And yes, the electro-intro is wonkie-tonkie. I like the tone of his voice on the verses; the chorus is very catchy; and l love the bridge. This is gonna be an interesting summer in idoland! :)

‘fist bump’… fingers crossed for david a – and david cook too… i want them both to come out swingin’…

  • Chloe

The voice and beat and hook are memorable enough. The lyrics? Not so much. But, I like the fact that this is instantly identifiable as Archie: sweet, cute, hopeful. I’ll be waiting for those promised Nashville tunes and soulful R&Bish songs on the album, but for the radio, this is perfect.

  • houstonrufus23

Aww, nspiredbycook! Can’t wait to hear Cook’s new music!

  • nspiredbycook

Thanks ggdoorsfan! I hope they both come out swingin’ too and go straight to the top!

  • MrDuffin

I’m sorry but I really have a hard time taking him serious!

  • nspiredbycook

Houstonrufus~So anxious for cook’s music too but tonight it’s about Archie. Best of luck to him! Very exciting!

  • patsafan

    MrDuffin…really?? It’s all good…but take a listen to this interview…http://www.litemiami.com/blogs/ellen/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10123307

  • ggdoorsfan

it’s a song aimed squarely for pop radio – a younger audience and format where this song fits right in the pocket… like idol is aiming for a younger demographic, so is this song, and if the real world pop audience digs it, it’s gonna do well….

  • windmills

It’s catchy and I hope it’s a hit for Archie.

Can I just have my whine though about how they’re burying his beautiful voice and yes they did use some Autotune effect in the bridge?

It’s fun hearing how Archie’s lower register sounds older and more mature since his debut album :)

  • JudyOhio

From MJ at the top of the thread:

ETA: I’m going to come back with some thoughts, just give me a minute.

Waiting to hear MJ’s input! C’mon MJ! :)

  • frogcooke

I love when he uses his lower register.

you gotta give a little sometimes to get what you want, but they haven’t given away the whole store… we know what he’s capable of, and if this song is the key to unlock the door on pop for more of his material to be released and find success, it’s all good… :) i’m very patient…

  • aakash988

It’s too overproduced in my opinion. Personally I liked David when he was on American Idol compared to now. Idk maybe its just me.

The song is okay – it’ll EXTENSIVELY be played on the radio.

  • abms

nspiredbycook ~ Here’s wishing David Cook much success with his new music. Both Davids are great guys!

  • LK10

This is going to be a huge hit! It is exactly what is playing on the radio! I love his pure voice as much as anyone, but he has to do what is current to be marketable. It is very catchy!

    Gosh…. the low part….yikes a killer!

I will never forget the first time I heard the low notes on “pat-a-pan” in his Christmas concert. The lady next to me and I looked at each other at the exact same time with a “holy heck!” look on our faces. He has killer low notes!

  • ggdoorsfan

The song is okay – it’ll EXTENSIVELY be played on the radio.

from your keyboard to radio’s ears, lol… that’s all we want… god willing, we’ll have many years of watching david release singles and albums, showing his range, depth and versatility to their fullest extent… being 19 in this instance is really a blessing – and exciting…

  • Mtlfan

The song is catchy and should do well, not like ‘Crush’ I think, which I liked better. Nice but nevertheless from the pop song ‘mold’. I have a bit of grief on the his voice being over produced; David has such a lovely voice.. i wish it would have been used as is.

  • frogcooke

I would still love to know who he cowrote this with and who produced it. I have no idea why the mystery… lol

Btw I know he has an amazing kick awesome voice. But I dont think in every song it needs to be showed off. Sometimes you just wanna make something fun and catchy. ya know?

  • tibitibis

I love the song, the production is great and enough to pull out a techno/pop song, David vocals and signature qualities still there and you can say is him.
I understand than some older fans and the lovers of the AC kind of music gonna be disappointed , but the reality is that this is the move to do for David/Jive right now, he’s a young pop singer , he need to find his place in the to 40 radio and tbh many young teens and young adults gonna love the song; and even many olders and mature fans who want just to jam with some disco/techno/up-midtempo music in the summer ha, ha.
I like better than Crush, maybe because i love the happy tunes euro/disco sound lol, like ZG and Let me go that are not in the regular version of his first album. ;)

  • ggdoorsfan

Personally I liked David when he was on American Idol compared to now. Idk maybe its just me.

no harm, no foul – not atall… he’s grown a lot in 2 years, i feel idol constrained and tried to stamp a very erroneous image of what his capabilities were relative to finding mainstream pop success… he can sing the ballads, the mid tempos, the uptempos like this one too… idol projects a very one dimensional image of who a lot of these alums are… i am glad he isn’t content to rest on that old outdated image… he has something to offer all facets in his base – the young, the adults with cd’s like the christmas album, and the spanish album he says he will be doing… he has a big base to cover, along with getting radio play, and i think so far he’s on the right track…

  • LK10

    tibitibis,

My daughter listened to this song (young adult) and likes it. She loves Zero Gravity too. She says it is the best song he ever had. Too bad it wasn’t even on the album. It is so much fun at a concert.

It’s too overproduced in my opinion. Personally I liked David when he was on American Idol compared to now. Idk maybe its just me.

This song has great production that’s for sure. However, it is far less “produced” than the songs that get played repeatedly on Top 40 today. And unlike the singers of those songs, David will be able to sing Something ‘Bout Love LIVE. It’s a testament to David’s talent that he can sing the songs on his Christmas album so beautifully and then effortlessly transition into a song like this. Few, if any of his contemporaries – Miley, Demi, Selena, Bieber, Jonas – could do the same.

I also like the American Idol David but if he sang songs like that, the only success he would see is probably on the AC charts. He can go down that route in 10 years when he is nearing 30.

  • kimk

ditto…… on the fun and catchy! :)

now all I want is to see him perform this somewhere like NOW!!!!

  • patsafan

Kitwana…when I listen to CFTH live songs on my Ipod, I sometimes forget I am listening to him live, and not the cd copy! He is that good..can not wait to hear him kill this song live! :)

  • tumbleweed

I’m very pleasantly surprised! I didn’t like it much when I heard the LQ snippet, but now I’ve heard the whole song… Well, I love it. :)

  • ggdoorsfan

ita… he’s young, albeit with a very ‘mature’ voice… let him be young, and play in that sandbox for a bit if that’s what it takes… if he didn’t have the chops to venture out of the sandbox because he was limited vocally like 99.9 percent of the pack in pop, or relied totally on studio wizardy to put him over, and couldn’t sing live to save his life, i’d be concerned…

  • tibitibis

OH YES. Archie, for the love of God, get a freaking haircut, you look like a GRANDMA. You’re 19 and a dude. Archie and Alex Lambert should have a hair battle. Yeesh.

Ha, ha, this is funny ;)

  • yaminacookie

Well, this Huge Cook loves it – dare I say more than Crush. I can’t stop bouncing in my chair. Its got the sound that’s all over Top 40, but stands out from the baby-girl voices. David’s voice is so unique – even with the bells and whistles, its undeniably Archie.

  • frogcooke

^^yeah you can definitely tell its him.

  • ggdoorsfan

thanks 4 the love ;) a lot of our expectations have had to change and be recalibrated in 2 years time about the music industry, and how all our faves would go out from idol and fit in it… i hope both our guys smash it up this go round… and this comes from a hardcore archie who has really learned to see cook in a new light, and like him, and have no qualms in giving him his props.

  • KathyH

LOL. When this full song was first posted, I had to listen on an older computer. Went for a walk and returned to a better computer and I’m amazed at the difference in sound quality. David’s voice is front and center through much of the song, and in some places even seems to have an echo (love that.)

Can not WAIT to blast this song in the car.

  • nspiredbycook

Thanks abms. I hope they both have great success as well! Not everyone is gonna like them but that’s okay. There will be tons that will. If they are making music they love and being played on the radio~It’s all gravy as far as I’m concerned. Just enjoying the ride!

  • star

It’s just ok for me. I definitely don’t think it’s as memorable or as good as “Crush” was. It’s almost like it’s too generic.

  • archiedoll

OMGOMGOMG….deep breaths. OK, here I go:

I’m a middle-aged woman, and I freakin’ love this song!!! Like, everything about it! I don’t know all the technical terms, but I love the electronic techno part, because the notes are just so cool! I love the beat, how he changes keys, how the verse is soft in his lower register and builds into his falsetto. I love how it can easily fit in on CHR, while delivering an uplifting message. And I have no idea what y’all are talking about when you say the music buries his voice. It sounds perfectly showcased to me…just a very fun, catchy, unpredictable tune!

I think it’s comical how some of you weren’t expecting this from him. I’ve just listened to my Top40 station for 2 hours, and this type of song is exactly what’s there. In fact, they just played Adam’s IIHY, and it reminded me a bit of that in a way. If David wants a CHR presence, SBL is the way to go. For those who think it sounds immature…have you listened to what’s playing right now? I’ve got Katy Perry singing little “Whoa whoa whoa’s”, Usher with “O-O-O-O-O-My-Gosh”, and Kesha repeatedly reminding me that her only drug is my love-love-love.

I’m really not sure what some people want, but they obviously won’t be satisfied no matter what David does. If the song is a ballad, they’ll say he’s a balladeer and isn’t meant for CHR. If the song is acoustic, they’ll say he’s HAC/AC and isn’t meant for CHR. If the song is a-la-”Crush”, they’ll say he isn’t growing and is stuck in the teen idol stage. If the song is anything different than “Crush”, they’ll say “He’s growing up too fast. This is too different. I can’t handle this side of him.”

And I’m sorry. I’m sorry for those who can’t just sit back and enjoy SBL~ and David’s journey~ without picking apart everything that he does. As for me, I’m just going to have fun blasting it in my car and watching it do well on the radio.

  • Marylee

This may be the second time I’ve posted..but just wanted to go on record with my thoughts of the song. I LOVE IT! It’s definitely different than what I expected from David but it just goes to show you his versatility. If this song doesn’t go straight to the top of the charts, I’d be totally surprised! Way to go, David!!

  • ggdoorsfan

everything david releases going forward will be in crush’s shadow it seems, lol… i guess that song really made a bigger impact on people that we thought… but this one can’t really be compared to crush… different style, different vibe, it’s going to chart its own course on pop this go round… crush did what it was supposed to do – give david an entree on top 40 radio. now sbl hopefully will pick up where it left off.. it may do better than crush, it may not, but i’m going to let it stand on its own merits and appeal to the pop audience… i think it has a very good shot, if the stations get aboard, and jive does their thing… the waiting will be the hardest part, but i’m ready for whatever happens…

  • ggdoorsfan

nail hit squarely on the head archiedoll – well said…

  • Marylee

I’m with Archiedoll!!! I plan to sit back & enjoy the ride, blast the album in my car & love every single note of every single song! Why? because he’s poured his heart & soul into it & that’s what fans do! Thanks for taking us on this journey, David! I, for one, wouldn’t have missed it for the world!

  • AIaddict

Archie is a really hard worker so I am hoping this song and his new cd are well received and the single gets radio play. I like it.

  • abms

archiedoll ~ bravo! well said! :D

  • gangreen29

    Holy HELLISH 80s, Batman!

Lol, it is very late 80s early 90s synth power pop to me, which is good because I think that is right where radio is heading right now with Alejandro and Miley’s new album. I think this song should do real well.

  • houstonrufus23

Even as a devoted fan, I recognize that David has been somewhat hard to categorize. He has a mature sounding voice, and he excels at songs that showcase that. But, then, he’s 19 and young and he loves pop music, is a student of pop music, even if he does have diverse musical taste. There has always been a debate regarding pushing him towards a mature sound that some think fits his vocal abilities v. letting him mine his age and the opportunity that brings for youthful pop success and thereby letting that success enable longevity. I’m in the latter camp. I love to hear him sing anything. But practically speaking, he’s more marketable as a 19 year old pop singer of pop songs than a 19 year old singer trying to break into the HAC or AC market (granted I’ll take chart success regardless of format, ha!).

  • tibitibis

There you go, maybe like a mature fan i’m not the target of his label LOL, or maybe i’m since i’m a pop person ha, ha, and this song was made to be played in a pop radio . Now if that is the goal, this is an excellent debut single for David second pop album, again maybe is like many songs played in the top 40 radio stations, but David’s vocals still in front of the all thing, strong with the little a crazy effects that make of his voice something special and in this case spacial too LOL

  • frogcooke

    from twitter:
my dad was watching one of our local channels and there was a commercial saying that he was gonna be on Tennessee mornings tomorrow. which is one of our local shows.

He’s doing some satelite interviews tomorrow. Someone from Phoenix already tweeted earlier about seeing him on the sat interview.

a to the men houston… god willing, he has plenty of time to explore as many of the possibilities open to him as a singer, in many styles and genres – those in and outside straight ahead pop and chr for those liking different flavors of his vocal ability… at 19, with grace and lots of luck, that’s my hope…

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

I know I’m not in his target group but as an older male fan, I really like this song, moreso than “Crush”. I’ve always felt his best songs on his debut album are “Works For Me”, “Zero Gravity” and “Save The Day” and never understood why they were relegated to bonus track status and not chosen for the main album. This new song seems to have a similar vibe and if it’s the lead single off the new album, I’m going to be very happy.

  • sue

Yes it has the 80′s sound and I FLOVE it! It is very catchy and pop and it should do very well. I can see thousands of Archie fans across the world doing the “oh oh oh ohs..” lol. It’s a hit in my book, now I wonder what they will do with the video? :)

Archie is all grown up he started with just a little “Crush” then he was “A Little Too Not Over You” and now its “Something ‘Bout Love”. awwww…..The song is total ear worm.

  • hoosiermama

Sounds like a winner to me. And he’s just so darn cute in that picture at top! Wish him much success with this single and the new album.

Me too!! i love more this song than Crush :) and ZG and Save the day are too two of my favs , then you can said David voice is very versatile to do well in many of the pop forms, since fit very well the disco stuff and the pop/rock song like ‘Save the Day’ that is and amazing emotional song ;)

  • Stan

Oh my freaking heck, this song is a bombshell. This is explosive and HOT and It’s amaaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!gjkfieiejrknhh**%^

  • Stan

And can I say the lyrics, oh my heck, they are David all over. And I love it!!

  • listen

    I like the song.

The processing does bury his vocals in parts, but overall you can tell it is Archie and it is a very catchy, happy song.
The sound is young but so is he so it works.

If the rest of his album sounds like this song I wouldn’t buy it, but I think the song will do very well on the radio.

    Congrats to Archie!

  • Junior

The song was posted as an invitation to comment. I’m not going to blow smoke if I don’t like the song. It has nothing to do with David A. in particular, i’m just not a fan of the current dance pop craze. I don’t like Crush, and I don’t care for this. I don’t pick apart everything he does, I like him immensely as a person, I just don’t like this style of music.

I wish him every success, but I, for one, will not be blasting this over my speakers this summer.

  • ronaldsf

I think the song and his voice sound a little more processed than they actually are because the sound quality of the AOL preview isn’t perfect. That said, there is a little playing with the AutoTune going on during the bridge, but it much less than what you hear in most pop songs today. What’s important to me is that his voice is front and center. :)

  • Tess

And I’m sorry. I’m sorry for those who can’t just sit back and enjoy SBL~ and David’s journey~ without picking apart everything that he does.

Archie isn’t immune from criticism, just like all the rest of the singers who put out something for consumption. Peeps are going to love it, like it, be indifferent to it, dislike it, or hate it. Everyone has their own taste in music and their own taste in voices…

  • stelladallas

    YES!

  • LCT

I absolutely love it! What what do you expect from an Archie fan? We follow him because he sings such different genres! Although this song is more for the young listener, you can go to his concerts and he’s got ballads, rock, Spanish….!!! We’ve learned to be so open minded about all genres! We love rock from Cookie, love to hear Adam, country from Carrie…. He’s put out pop this time around for his young fans and is going to be putting out Spanish next for his older fans!!!!!!!!What talent to be so varied!!

  • Stan

This song is so smoking! It’s so full of current pop and what’s hot on the radio. This song is going to be pushed by Jive. It already is! This one is it!!!

  • Stan

And there better be more hit singles besides this on the album. David, the guitarist for David’s tour mentions there are so many awesome songs on this album. I believe!!!

no doubt – he certainly isn’t – you can’t be a fan of his and not expect it, lol… that’s one thing these 2 years in has taught us all. par for the course really, and if he ever stopped getting it from fans, and non fans especially, then i’d begin to think he was doing something wrong… iirc, 2 years ago many thought he wouldn’t even be at this point in his career, many thought his younger fans would have moved on, many thought he’d be another runner up casualty… he’s defied those odds so far, and all signs point to him continuing to defy them. he’ll always have his critics, but he’ll always have tons of supporters as well… par for the course…

  • Stan

I have a very strong feeling that David had alot to do with the lyrics in this song. There is so much diversity in this song. It’s full of creativity! THAT is what will make this song popular!

  • sue

After listening to it a few times I do hear some overproducing but it’s still good. I love the song regardless but I was wondering if anyone knows if this was a collaboration? I know Archie co-wrote the song. Is another guy singing on it in some of the parts? I remember listening to “Don’t Let Go” on his first album and not believing it was all him. LOL…I know it is Archie, he is just so good at changing up his voice. “Don’t Let Go” is spectacular live. :) Ok back to “Something ‘Bout Love”. It is so catchy.

  • Stan

2 years ago many thought he wouldn’t even be at this point in his career, many thought his younger fans would have moved on,

His younger fans are going to love this song! David should do very well with younger, which is right where Jive should be pushing him. There has not been an Idol teen star and there really aren’t too many male young voices out there that are quality like his! David has been underestimated and so many who really follow him knew he would continue to defy and surprise. This is one of many surprises to follow. He is amazingly talented. This year has proven that.

  • Stan

Is another guy singing on it in some of the parts?

You know I thought the same thing, but after really listening a couple times, I think it’s all him. And don’t you love the end where he raises the key a notch and sings even higher.
Who would have thought David would wham bam us with this kind of song on his second album? This song just about knocks the socks off you when you listen to it.
    I LOVE IT!

  • Stan

Hello, GG! Just who I would love to chat with right now. Yeow! Is this song amazing or what?!!!*&!!#$$$$**$(

  • ggdoorsfan

the co-writer is someone named chris – that’s all we got right now… i am impressed that a song david co wrote even made it to consideration for eventual release… he has worked diligently on becoming more involved in that aspect of his career, and for jive to cosign on this song is pretty doggone good… it’s also financially lucrative for him to be listed as a writer for royalties sake… it’s all good for him on those fronts…

  • ggdoorsfan

i am pooped stan, lol… this month has been one heck of a doozy, and it’s hard taking it all in right now… now is the time we wait for the stars to align, for jive to step in and kick it up a notch, get to getting pushing this bad boy to radio… the fans are ready, so let’s do this thang :)

  • goboywonder

I’m sure that Whoa oh oh oh will be playing in my head even when I wake briefly during the night. Way to go David!

  • Stan

The lyrics in this song are what make it stand out. Name a song out there right now that LIFTS you up as a human and makes you feel so much about life and the whole definitions of love. It speaks to all ages. I see so many ideas here , in this song. It touches on the most real aspects of love…where it tears up, and yet sets you free! And love brings you to your knees. There’s a lot of different pictures I see in those lines. Sorry, but there’s a whole lot in this song! That is what I’m seeing in this.
David told us this album would represent HIM and what he thinks. Well, that’s a whole to share in this song. And it is refreshing and deep, and purely magical if you allow the meaning in these words to wake you up.

  • Stan

Hey, GG, I know. Jive, is giving hints here that they are serious maybe about pushing this. I think they’ve actually grown alot in the last year also. They seem to realize they have to push songs if they want to make money. I hope they have good intentions with this song and David.

  • Stan

am impressed that a song david co wrote even made it to consideration for eventual release… he has worked diligently on becoming more involved in that aspect of his career, and for jive to cosign on this song is pretty doggone good…

Ya! That’s rare, isn’t it? To have your co-write make the single out first on new album? ha! What a ninja David is! just snuck in this HOT song that no one even knows worked with him on it. He’s a sneaky one, that David Archuleta. Don’t put anything past him! He looks all quiet and humble, and well enough is, but his music that he’s putting out here is looking pretty dang HOT and right up there with the finest on radio, yes!

  • Stan

I’m on such a high tonite that I just have to quit before my head explodes!

  • abbysee

Okay, I effing love it. I love, love, love it. Radio ready, bouncy, fun. I am in the camp that David needs to enjoy his youth while he has it. There is time to be a serious arteest, cause that is something you grow into anyway. David should be a pop star, and he’s on his way with this song, imho.

  • cmom

Oh, that David Archuleta. “pop song”? hmmm…I guess I’ll put on that hat and do one of those. “national anthem”? hmmm…change hats. “Ave Maria”? well, go ahead and blow us out of the water, why don’t you, David? “Contigo en la Distancia”? Ok, switch languages, why don’t you? It’s too much, just too much. Whatever he sings, he makes you believe it because he believes it and loves every minute of every song.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Not what I was expecting from Archie, but I like it! I hope the song does well.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

There has not been an Idol teen star and there really aren’t too many male young voices out there that are quality like his!

Well, there’s Jordin Sparks. She’s no longer a teenager but she was when “Tattoo”, “No Air”, “One Step At A Time” and “Battlefield” first came out.

As for young male voices, there’s Nick Jonas, who really does have a very good voice but he’s veering more to the pop-rock genre rather than straight pop. Not much else out there (certainly NOT the Bieb!).

i am impressed that a song david co wrote even made it to consideration for eventual release… he has worked diligently on becoming more involved in that aspect of his career, and for jive to cosign on this song is pretty doggone good…

I’m think that Jive has finally realized that the best songs may actually be the ones written/co-written by David himself. If Jive execs have been monitoring the fan response at his concerts, they would have seen some of the biggest reactions for performances of “Works For Me” and “Zero Gravity”.

  • suenigma

Another huge Cook fan here, and I freaking love this song! Yeah it is pure, airy pop, but his lovely voice elevates it, IMO. So damn catchy, and perfect for Summer. Someone else aptly called it “hopeful”.

Gotta say, I’m all verklempt at the mutual admiration society thing happening here in regards to the Davids. Season 7 for the win!!!

  • E

Long time Archie fan here. Liked it when I heard the song over the phone, and now loving the full song, right off 1st listen.

Come on guys, Crush was way more overproduced, more generic imo. I only here the techno stuff in the intro and towards the end. David’s silky, rich tone is front and center in here. Can’t you hear David’s breathing in the chorus? no way they would put that in if it is overproduced.

Whatever. Bottom line, this is just a fun song. I don’t even care what it is about. just one of those songs that want to make you dance and get stuck in your head long after. Just a song to make you feel good.

  • E

and hello Cook fans! thanks for the support for Archie. am looking forward to new DC songs as well.
    :D

    Go s7!

  • Idolnewby

Wow….this is going to be a smash HIT! Sorta has a disco vibe to it amongst other vibes. I liked “Crush”, but this is much better…radio will love this. All of Archie’s vocal traits are front and center and the only thing I hear…on his voice…is a little reverb.

    I’m certainly not a tween…three times his age….and I love it!

Love it even more than I did yesterday!! David has a winner on his hands! :)

  • cheese

Hmm, I love the Owl City-esque electronics and it’s definitely catchy. The lyrics sound like they could come from any of the Disney/Nickelodeon singers who try “singing” but of course, David can actually sing. Somehow it all works for me.

  • lucy

Really nice song. Fun and bouncy. Totally David but quite commercial at the same time, sounds like to me. Here’s hoping that radio hears that.

  • kimk

    I LOVE SBL!

oh and I love the David’s love too! About time! :)

  • wordnerdarchie

I weighed in with an opinion when Crush was first released (called it as a definite smash) before I was totally on the the Archie train. I guess I should give my opinion on this one now that I’m a member of the Archie “crew” so to speak, LOL. I listened a couple of times last night and liked it. When I woke up this morning with it still running through my head (even though I sleep with an i-pod in my ears with Cook playing all night to drown out hubby’s snores – TMI, LOL) that sealed the deal for me. I predict another huge hit this summer with it. GO ARCHIE!

PS, I do think they manipulated his voice a bit on the bridge section to fit in with current trends on Top 40, and that’s OK. His vocal ability still shines through.

  • dhunken

This song definitely grows on me the more I play it (about spin 40 for me now…kidding…well sort of…LOL) Ok the part that I hear the auto tune is at the 2:52 mark. Its not done as much as I thought upon the first listen. Maybe the Electronica sound in the song threw me. This will be a great song live and seeing David’s face when he gets to the chorus and sings out to the audience and starts dancing. Very catchy very fun song. Makes you really happy. Going to listen again.

PS Now I am itching for more new songs from him. :D

  • standtotheright

This song is a glass of sweet tea. Not my personal preference, but I know that plenty of people love their sweet tea, and won’t drink anything else in the summer.

It should do well for him.

And I’m really glad he got a cowriting credit; he must be very proud.

Propulsive. Thanks, MJ. I’ve been fumbling around in my head trying to describe the chorus and that does the trick. That is the element of the song that makes me think of a couple of Kelly’s big hits, not necessarily the melody, but that propulsive, sweeping sound. I like it!

I love it SO MUCH! I personally think it will do really really well on radio. If they can play the Beaver & Selena Gomez they better play Somethin’ Bout Love! and about the 80′s vibe I don’t think it has an 80′s vibe but it sounds like a Boys Like Girls or We The Kings song…i love it :D :D :D

  • ggdoorsfan

jambajim FINALLY got a chance to listen to @DavidArchie’s new single. Electronic bleep-bloops! Breakdowns! Key changes! Our boy’s all grown up. ;)

I love it too like first single, ideal for the summer time, i hope for a ballad for his second single (i imagine in the Fall.)
And yeah i hope Jive gonna fight for radio play time this time,i know Beiber and Selena have a big money help behind them,so David is not in the same position but neither in the same level of talent, so again i hope people can enjoy his talent and give to him an opportunity in the radio.:)

  • tierbee

Another Cook fan popping in, lol :) I really like this, very summer-y and catchy. Go, Archie!!

  • carolinacharms

It’s now stuck in my head like a good song should be!

  • davidlove

Initial thoughts: loved how David’s sultry low tones are showcased on this! The fact the whole of his range – lower, middle tones and upper – is special sets him apart.

Song fits him perfectly, and I’d even call it inspirational. Got a few goosebumps near the end at the key change. Love the uptempo beat and energy!

Methinks SBL could be bigger than Crush and can’t wait to see him sing this live. The electronics don’t bother me. Not too much, just enough to make the sound current and on target.

Your star is going to soar, Mr. Archuleta! Enjoy the ride.

  • OldHag

It’s not my cup of tea but it is what it should be – a song a 19 year old would sing. I think it might be another Crush for him.
