Wow! This video is making the rounds of the websites, including Perez and Just Jared, so not to feel left out, I’m going to post it too. It’s David Archuleta singing in Spanish–a little Selena at his 3/12 concert in San Antonio TX.

While David was in San Antonio, he and his tour mate Leslie Roy signed autographs for kids at the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital.

David’s Spring tour is selling out everywhere–a 1,200 seat concert in Pocatello, Idaho that went on sale today sold out in 15 minutes…

This is awesome!! And I dont even know spanish HAHA

  • soundscene

Preeeetty!! I took 7 years of Spanish and basically I know, “Hola. Como se llama? Me llamo Lisa.” I suck. lol.

He needs to record a spanish-language album.

  • frogcooke

Yeah he really does need to do that.

  • hermy

oo, cool, a shorter video lol.His rambling in the other ones, trying to figure out what to sing though was cute haha. I said so in the headlines thread, but I love Selena and I love that he sang this.

  • frogcooke

Yeah I love how he like asked his mom what to sing… haha

  • MOMster

Rickey – My 22yo niece e-mailed the Perez video to her mom and copied me. I thought it was so sweet that he sang a song requested by a fan!

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

I’ve never been his biggest fan, but I have often thought that Archuleta — due to his youth, appealing humility, training and natural ability — might be one of the AI legacy stars in top 40 music for many years to come, along with Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and perhaps Elliott Yamin — although Elliott might be wishful thinking on my part.

I can imagine other contestants continuing their musical careers behind the scenes, in Gospel or Contemporary Christian genres, or finding outlets to continue singing or playing. I honestly suspect that all the other winners and also-rans who recorded post-AI albums will have shorter shelf lives.

    This made me laugh… :lol_tb:

    I do and it is great… :happy_tb:

yes please, but with songs writing in spanish *thankyouverymuchandhimisterinterwhowacththissite*

What ever happened to the planned “Crush” in Espanol? David Archuleta is muy caliente!!!

    David Archuleta is muy caliente!!!

    Si!!

  • frogcooke

    No idea RV lol

  • GeminiDolly

    That was great.

  • twinklestar

He sounds really great singing Spanish songs. Maybe he should consider making a Spanish album?

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never been his biggest fan, but I have often thought that Archuleta à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ due to his youth, appealing humility, training and natural ability à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ might be one of the AI legacy stars in top 40 music for many years to come, along with Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and perhaps Elliott Yamin à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ although Elliott might be wishful thinking on my part.

I’ve often thought Archuleta could pull a Clarkson. By that I mean breakout with his sophomore album. Normally with these contestants, the first album is their biggest because of the Idol hype. But I have the feeling he could buck the trend as KC did with her Breakaway album. If he gets better material given to him for the second album, it could very well happen.

  • LK09

If he records a spanish album, he could tour with that in spanish speaking countries. I would pay to go to a Spanish concert here.

  • shebee

This is great..would love to hear more!

  • Jabkmc

So a poster on IDF from Puerto Rico says

If David releases music in Spanish he is going to be huge in Latin America!

I was afraid that David was going to sound like an American singing in Spanish, but he sounds like a Latino 100% ( Believe me… to be big in Latin America singing in Spanish you need to sound authentic in the language) There is no one right now in the Latin music market with David’s age that has his charisma, his personality and his naturally amazing talent…. He is the perfect candidate for singers like Luis Miguel and Ricky Martin to pass the torch too…. He has everything and more!!!

Cruz, and the other Spanish speaking peeps on here, what do you think?

  • gemzone

but I have often thought that Archuleta à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ due to his youth, appealing humility, training and natural ability à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ might be one of the AI legacy stars in top 40 music for many years to come,

I agree with Terrie, I think David is just going to get better and better as he gets older.

Thanks mj for posting this. :thumbup_tb:

THIS. Sums up nicely what Simon told David in his audition – “You’re young, good looking, you’re likable – not a bad place to be”. Throw in a seemingly endless depth of talent and musical versatility, one still years away from its full maturity, and you have a taste of just one element of the irresistible force that singled him out then and there as “our guy”, and compels in those fans a fierce level of devotion, mixed with pride, mixed with the joy of watching him, on his solo tour, begin to take ownership and settle into the power, and potential of his talent. WELL DONE DAVID, WELL DONE.

  • houstonrufus

Cruz, I was there last night. The concert was awesome, but that goes without saying. I can tell you the audience was probably 75% Latino. At least. Selena is obviously very special to many Texas Latinos. (I am the whitest guy on the planet by the way) When he sang this? The audience went WILD. I was with a friend who grew up in Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish and she was very impressed with his pronunciation. She said she can’t even detect an accent. Do you agree?

  • hermy

Jab, I speak spanish and it sounds perfect to me. I’ve heard him speak it, and the only thing he has a little bit of a problem with is finding the right words. I think that, in the future, he should really consider it.

  • GeminiDolly

Im confused on David Archuleta’s ethnic background. Is he hispanic on his mother’s side? His last name sounds Latino, but I dont think his dad has any hispanic blood in him, but maybe Im wrong?

  • houstonrufus

His mother was born in Honduras. His father is American and half Spanish and Danish. “Archuleta” is a Spanish last name, Basque to be specific. He is technically, 3/4ths Hispanic. If I’m wrong, someone please correct me.

  • gemzone

houstonrufus, you beat me to it and that is what David said during an interview.

  • Jabkmc

Gemini – His dad’s family line is from the Basque region of Spain. Jeff also speaks Spanish fluently.

  • frogcooke

Edit because apparently we are all on lightspeed replies lol

  • Jabkmc

    Cokes! haha!

Cruz, and the other Spanish speaking peeps on here, what do you think?

It is really good, actually I never was much in to salsa and cumbia but this sound prety great… almost made me wish for a song in spanish because I can totally see David doing something like this, this or this, even this… really JIVE look for a good songwriter in spanish and you can really make it…

She said she canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even detect an accent. Do you agree?

I agree with her, actually I ´m really surprise with it, his entonation and pronuntiation is almost the same a every person here in Honduras… I have always say that David is an artist that I feel really proud to said he is from Honduras, mostly because he himself feels proud about his latin origin (I ´m talking about you Amà ©rica Ferrera :dry_tb: …)

About him speaking in spanish, certanly he understand a lot of spanish because both Jeff and Lupe speak spanish, his accent is certanly more from the latin side than from the Basque side, because his “z” and “s” are almost the same…

  • Tess

I must say that David has lots of “moxie” when he gets on stage. At Christmas time he wowed the audience with acapella versions of favorite Christmas songs and now he honors his audience by singing in Spanish, probably completely unrehearsed. The Kid is really learning how to be an entertainer and to draw the audience in. He’s still very young, oftentimes awkward, hasn’t got the patter down yet (but that’s part of his charm), is learning to use the whole stage (and with a few dancing lessons from his Mom will be unstoppable with that). Even though the audience size is relatively small (from 800 to several thousand, except Salt Lake) he has sold out pretty much every venue and has often times done it in record time. The critics haven’t been all that kind, always referring to the “very young” fan base but I think that is more their preconceived bias rather than the actual truth. Regardless of that, David just seems to UP his performance with each passing venue. KUDOS Mr. Archuleta!

  • Tatiana

Randy was right – David can sing ANYTHING. :happy_tb:

  • hermy

You know, I really want one of those autographs he sometimes does with the little sqiggly pig. I don’t even like autographs from anyone, but those make me crack up, with his last name having ‘chuleta’ and all lol.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^heh… I will like a piggy autograph too

  • ggdoorsfan

Tres cool – This is the link to the Pocatello article, with an embedded Local8 news report video, relaying the story of the 15 minute sell out today. Couldn’t be any prouder of this young man. :smile1_tb:

  • stelladallas

    Que bueno!

  • Lux

I think he can do very well in Latinamerica, his spanish is really good, cruzceleste those are great music styles David could sing, but I see him more like this kind of artist like: Reik or Camila, what about a cover of “Corazà ³n partà o” bye Alejandro Sanz? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7djosnxbYFA&feature=PlayList&p=94034CE5CA2926FE&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=7
i think he can nail that song. I want to hear Jason Castro singing in spanish too.

  • soundscene

About him speaking in spanish, certanly he understand a lot of spanish because both Jeff and Lupe speak spanish, his accent is certanly more from the latin side than from the Basque side, because his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“zà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“sà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ are almost the sameà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I think he once said that spanish was actually his first language, but that he lost a lot of it when he started speaking english as he got older. Since his mom still has the Honduran accent, and his grandparents on his mom’s side don’t speak english (at least his papi doesn’t, not sure about his abuelita), it’s not surprising that he would have the accent down pretty well.

I must say that David has lots of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“moxieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ when he gets on stage. At Christmas time he wowed the audience with acapella versions of favorite Christmas songs and now he honors his audience by singing in Spanish, probably completely unrehearsed.

He also honored a request in Beaumont to sing “Your Eyes Don’t Lie” which he hadn’t performed or rehearsed since the first night of the tour (sadly cut from the set list). His response when people begged for the song, “people like that song?” Oh, David. lol.

  • frogcooke

    If only he knew…. lol

    Cruz – Lux

Someone, somewhere, at some point (LOL!) had suggested this song for David.

Frog – LOL! Yeah, if he only knew. haha! YEDL is groovy, man!

Jabjkmc, that song is great, i like it a lot, this is the english version so you can unsderstand the lyrics.

  • SL

oh! me gusta mucho! It’s so short though. Wish he sang the whole song.

  • ARuiz

Hi! I am from San Antonio and of course went to his concert!!!! He is FANTASTIC live. The concert was full of energy both ways….the crowd to David and David to the crowd.

His Como La Flor was flawless as is his Spanish which he should never be nervous about speaking. We all sang along with him!!!!

The night was extra special for me because #1, I converted a friend who had never heard him into a Fanatic Fan that now wants to follow him to Utah and #2 got to meet him in person after the concert and get his autograph!!!!!

I said Hi and a couple of other greetings in Spanish to him once I got face to face. He was thrown off for a second because he garbled his first few words but then he was able to answer me back in Spanish. He thanked us for supporting him and I have a beautiful Black & White photo with his signature. Robin….if you read this……thanks for the beautiful photo!!!

  • Jabkmc

Lux – Thank you! That is awesome.

  • frogcooke

    ARuiz thats great to hear!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=63800280&ref=profile gerreb

Love this! He sure makes me smile….David, let’s be friends :)

MJ, I love your rationale behind why you posted this, hehe

  • ozarka

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure whether Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m remembering it right, but I think Selena might also be his momà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s favorite singer (and I believe she was the one that yelled for him to sing Selena). He still claims he canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t speak Spanish well, but he lies. lol.

Isn’t it ironic that the one class that ruined his perfect 4.0 average was the “B” he got in A.P. Spanish, iirc? David is a perfectionist. I think that B may be contributing to his self-confidence about his ability to speak Spanish. His humility, however, is definitely one of his most endearing traits.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Corazà ³n partà oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ bye Alejandro Sanz

I will die if he cover any song by Alejandro Sanz, mostly becuase he is the love of my life… I will like to heard David singing “A La Primera Persona”… Camila y Reik, IÂ ´m not a big fan, but they are no bad…
I could live ith “Coleccionsita de canciones”…

Someone, somewhere, at some point (LOL!) had suggested this song for David.

Jabjkmc, that song is great, i like it a lot, this is the english version so you can unsderstand the lyrics.

I can ´t see the song becuase is blocked in my country :sad_wp:

And thank you for the recap ARuiz and Houston… me alegra que se hayan divertido ;D

  • KathyH

Darn it! I was at the Oklahoma City show, and we missed hearing Your Eyes Don’t Lie as well as this little gem. Oh well. David was great in OKC, too. I think he did especially well with Angels, Zero Gravity and Somebody Out There, that night, and I had a GREAT time. David really feeds off the energy of the crowd and vice versa. Can’t wait for the next opportunity to hear him sing, live.

From what I remember, David was taking college Spanish during the Idol season. My daughter is in Spanish III now, which is a few steps down, and she definitely sounds like an American trying to speak Spanish, in comparison.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^Thanks for the recat Kathy…glad you have fun ;D

  • KathyH

Well, that wasn’t really a recap, but thanks for thanking me for doing so little! My oldest daughter leaves for Spain this morning (school trip) so I got back from the show and immediately jumped into helping her prepare for her trip.

Some funny things that happened to us, though, were that we wound up at the same hotel and David and the band. We assume David was there — didn’t see him, but saw that big bus in front of the hotel when we came back from eating dinner after the concert, and then later a couple in my group saw Mike, his wife and baby outside their hotel room, which was right across the hall from ours. I also caught a glimpse of Lupe rushing past in the lobby.

Another thing that happened that struck me as funny was that we were all lined up fairly early, and in the early afternoon the security people put us in two long lines. Those with tickets and those without. Each line started at the door and went in opposite directions. Later in the afternoon, everyone stood in the COLD, COLD wind and waited, when suddenly people from the other line (tickets at will-call) started sprinting past us (with tickets in hand) to the back of our line. There had to be over 100 people flying past. We hollered out to one of them, “Where are you going?” and they said, “We don’t have our tickets!” We tried to tell them we did, but they were already past. A few minutes later, sure enough, they all SPRINTED back to the other side. What a sight!

As for the concert — well, I could have cried during “Somebody Out There.” I love that song, anyway. LOVE it, and he sings it with such tenderness. I found myself looking at my friends, communicating to them, at least, the idea, “Isn’t he unbelievable?” Zero Gravity was high energy — he seems to never miss, with that one, and many in the crowd jumped including me, despite the fact that I had NO personal space within which to jump. And Angels, his last song? Well, that’s one I don’t always listen to, because he has covered it often. Yet he managed to make me listen hard and he managed to make me tear up. Soooo good.

  • hermy

aw, that’s awesome kathy. I really want to go to one of his concerts, maybe he’ll come around here this summer..

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

  • jjcoolgal891

Dang, the video from Perez Hilton has over 46,000 views already!!

  • hermy

oh, cruz, I live in KC. I wasn’t able to go to the AI tour and the closest he came was Oklahoma. I’ll be in Atlanta this summer, so maybe then.

  • Victoria

Nice to hear him sing in Spanish. I have no idea what he’s saying, but it sounds good! :)

  • frogcooke

    Yeah Victoria :)

  • lifeisfun

I’m going to his concert on wedesday and i cant wait!!!! Yah Sayreville sold out in 4 min!

they just added a concert in Pocatello, ID and he sold 1,200 seats in 15 min!

ha ha a couple of months ago his fans thought it would be hard for him to have his own tour and that he should start for someone else! please! this was easy for david to sell! he’s also gonna tour in london and is going to asia soon!

i think david is one of those contestants that is going to benefit more from coming in second in idol because he can do more of what he wants!

    Congratulations David!!!!!

  • JudyOhio

63,000 plus views on youtube now.

  • houstonrufus

Wow! Love all the views of the Selena performance! I definitely think David should record a Spanish-language cd in the future. It’s a no-brainer really. With his excellent pronunciation and that great voice, it just seems an easy sell.

Also, love the news on the quick sell outs on the new shows. Congrats, David. :)

  • frogcooke

David sang it again in Albuquerque *heart*

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ0FcLMF4tU

  • E

Wow! that one in Albuquerque is much clearer, and of course David sounded awesome and actually sexyyyy! His Spanish is natural as well. any hope of him singing the whole song, with the band, and dancing? like at the last show in Utah? that way he has what 10 days to practise lol. too much to ask? you see I am starved for Spanish song from David, any will do as long as it’s Spanish. Come on Jive, get on with the Spanish album songs already!

  • Jabkmc

    ^^^ uh..yeah. :blink_tb:

    Much clearer. Whew! :smoke_tb:

  • shebee

wow..over 80,000 views …he needs to sing the whole song

  • Jabkmc

He also needs to get those Latin hips and shoulders moving. haha! You can see he wants to. He sways differently when he’s singing in Spanish. Have you noticed? We know he took Salsa lessons with his mom when he was younger…so we know he knows HOW. It’s just getting him to loosen up a on stage. Lupe, your son needs a refresher course.

  • Jabkmc

Cruz – BTW, mystery solved on that other little snippet of song in Spanish he sang at the San Antonio show that I’d asked you about but you were unsure of.

It was the first line to this…

Another Selena song – El Toro Relajo
