David Archuleta – Self-Titled Album Drops Today!

The best of luck to David Archuleta……..his vocals, work ethic, character and charming personality at such a young age amaze many people…..this non teen fan is among them.

LOL mj. I think Archie has really surprised a lot of people with this album, including me. My copy has already been downloaded from i-tunes and I’m so glad to finally have it on my ipod.

I wish Archie the best of luck and hope he sells tons of records. He’s worked hard and he deserves it.

I was so excited to get the email that my pre-order was ready for download! I love the entire album with “A Little Too Not Over You” and “Touch My Hands” as my favorites.

Did you happen to check out the bonus tracks on the iTunes download? I was really taken with them and think one or two of them should have ended up on the album. I see David’s future in Somebody Out There, too. He sounds so at home with this more stripped down acoustic style. I think including a number like this could have added more depth to the album. Not complaining. I know Jive had their plan and wants to market him to a certain audience. I love it, but I wish the producers had trusted David’s instincts more. I’m also hearing great things about the bonus track on the walmart cd.

Lotta respect for you MJ in admitting you underestimated David. Never doubted for a second that he’d be able to make his mark in the mainstream, and he has more than exceeded the expectations of his fans with this release.

I like YEDL for precisely the reason you didn’t – the intro is a total attention grabber .. catches the listener off guard, you are immediately drawn in, waiting to hear where he’s going to take you…. and boy does he take you to some places you wouldn’t think David couldn’t take you…. his vocal and the emotional intensity is utterly convincing and believable relaying the smoldering message of pleading love….

For S’s and G’s, I played YEDL to a group of my BF’s basketball buddies tonight… these dudes are deep into the R&B and hip hop music scene, and have no use for any other genre…… pop is a very dirty word to them – LOL.. Anyhoo…. I didn’t tell them who was singing it… after the song finished, they all said they thought the track was… and I quote them… “slammin”, “off the chain”, “nice groove”, “funky”. They especially liked the little sample in the intro from Blackstreet’s “No Diggity”. When I told them it was David Archuleta – the AI guy, the “Archie” they always give me stick about liking, they couldn’t believe it was really him! Had to show em the tracklist… and three of em want to check the album out… these are hardcore hip hop r&b loving dudes digging this song – and that’s all the believability I need to convince me this is the song that may crossover and be a smash on the rhythmic and urban charts… it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, for sure… but if my instincts are on point, Jive has hit the bullseye with the audience it was intended to appeal to… Bravo David… you got the homeboys digging some of your stuff! :smoke_tb:

GGdoorsfan, I have to agree about YEDL. It’s one of my favorites. I just think it’s the closest thing to R^B on the cd, and I love his touch of soul. He is one funky mormon boy.

One big surprise is that I love Barriers, I didn’t like it so much, now I see why some people love it so much. It’s awesome.

I listened to the songs in sequence and am now at Angels….bonus tracks to come…..

ALTNOY got the same response…. tremendous crossover appeal in both songs….. this for me is what makes David such an exciting and dynamic artist -his versatility in singing convincingly in any style he desires… gonna like the journey. :smile1_ee:

I’m on the opposite side of the fence, but that’s probably because it’s my least favorite track. I think his voice is tailor made for soulful pop/R&B, so I’m kind of hoping his future music leans more towards that direction. I feel the same way about Don’t Let Go as you do about Your Eyes Don’t Lie-I’m not quite buying it. GGdoorsfan, I’m really hoping that Archie will be able have at least one potential rhythmic crossover single from this album. Maybe YEDL could be the one-it’s one of my favorites as well.

I bought the pre-order from iTunes, and I’m really liking some of the bonus tracks. I love Falling-Archie shows a lot of promise as a budding songwriter. Somebody Out There sounds pretty nice too. The only ones I’m not that crazy about are Let Me Go and Waiting On Yesterday.

Ironically MJ, when i saw Archie, i thought he would be the best fit in pop radio since Kelly. Music is so subjective, and i think its all about a good hook these days. I cant wait to buy archie’s album today. I want a hard copy of the CD so im gunna get it at a store tomm. yee haw. its gunna be awesome. I havent been this excited about a debut album since kelly/elliot.

Jeff said that he and David wanted to switch Falling for Desperate and Works for Me for Your Eyes Don’t Lie. Jive was apparently very receptive, but ultimately decided on the regular 12 tracks as they are.

David still doesn’t know what he’s singing for the Jingle Balls. lol. The band are apparently awesome guys. There are plans for 1-2 more non-regular-studio albums in the works for next year. Possibly a Christmas one and maybe one with songs from this album recorded in Spanish (he made it sound like some, but not all of the songs). The meeting discussing these albums was attended by Barry himself (head of Sony/BMG). They were very positive about David’s future.

The new single, Touch My Hands, is still a few weeks away from being heard much of anywhere, he says (the add date is December 8, though).

Oh, and nothing to do with the chat, but Crush totally busted down Disturbia on iTunes today–its nemesis on the chart since day 1. Is it wrong that I’m happy about that?

Aww, but I love Your Eyes. If any of the songs from the regular cd should go to bonus, probably My Hands and Angels for me. or maybe Desperate and Angels since they are both covers, but Desperate let people see the darker David.

Jive should have just given us all 25 or so songs he recorded and be done with it. LOL!

I know we’re supposed to trust in “The Jive” but I’m at a loss to understand the rationale for not including “Works for Me” and “Falling” in the standard album. These are two of the strongest songs in the whole bunch…

At any rate, the album is finally out and this is just the start for David. I know I’m looking forward to hearing more of David’s own songs and will love watching him grow as a musician and performer. In the meantime, I’m going to brace myself all the album promo interviews coming up….eeep…I am so nervous for him!

YEDL is a great song lots fun…. Sorry I disagree with some of you guys but My Hands is a great song the lyrics just got me, an I listen to like 20 times in a row so I can learn the chorus lol… Don ´t Let Go ids different from other songs…Barrieres is really coool I already picturing the video in my head… I love this album…ALNTOY with the guitar sound and the lyrics juts GAH I just I want somebody to dedicate that song to me ;D… love it

I found Works For Me on youtube. I’m really dissapointed it didn’t make the final cut to be on regular version of the album, it’s one of the best songs. But not instead of YEDL, TBH hard to pick one that I would not miss, the most likely My Hands. I guess I’ll manage to buy somewhere Wal-Mart edition with WFM.

I like the album, but when I went to Walmart here in central Minneosta this morning, they didn’t even have his CDs in the display yet. I had to grab them out of the distribution cart. :huh_tb:

As someone who attended about all but two of the Season 7 Top 12 shows, including the finales, I’ve probably seen DA perform live more than anyone else on this board. This board was really, really down on DA when he was on AI. I kept telling you guys how great he was, but everyone was in such a lather over DC (who I also think is great) no one would listen. Over the months it has been gratifying (and a relief) to see so many people FINALLY see what I saw from the beginning. David Archuleta was a gritty competitor on Idol, and he is proving to be a lovable personality with an exceptional talent. If you get the chance to hear him in person, do it! His vocals must be experienced live. Go Archie!

Go listen to “works for me” on youtube guys ,then go to walmart ha..aa…..it is so differenc fromt the rest of the songs on the album….

Wow I’m late on joining on the convo here! I had to go to TWO different Wal-Marts before finding myself a copy! The first one didn’t have any…..sold out maybe???
Anyways, getting down to business….i loved reading his liner notes! I swear he mentioned everyone in Utah!
And I am very upset Works For Me did not make the final cut….definitely should’ve switched it with Your Eyes Don’t Lie! I am loving WFM!!!! I love the intro and his voice sounds sooo SMOOTH on this track! I’m lovin it! Haven’t listened to the other bonus tracks yet…i’m on my way!!

I like positive reviews for David, but I REALLY dislike them tearing down someone else at the same time (Vulture). I know it is supposed to be funny, but it is not funny to that person’s fans.

Taylor Swift is a monster–although it’s easy to be a monster with a second album and promotion that would break the bank (check out the front page of myspace). She’s all over iTunes as well–there’s an ad for her on the POP page. Sheesh. So, she’ll win the week, most likely. David will face tough competition from T-Pain (rap always sells well first week) and maybe Enya and the NOW! series (which inexplicably always sells well).

David didn’t get a big, first banner ad on iTunes this week–his shows up after a few scrolls. Oh, well. First week isn’t what it’s all about–it’s longevity, and I’m thinking he’s gonna do just fine.

Excite has updated me from NY. She said she was shocked how many 20-something guys are waiting for wristbands outside the mobile store. She’s enthralled.

There was lots of squealing in the background as I was talking to her. Her hands were too cold to text, and she said her feet are frozen. She’s been there since 6 a.m., but some people had been there since 8 o’clock last night. She said a lot of New Yorkers were stopping by and asking what was going on, and they all knew who David Archuleta was.

I’ll leave waiting out in the cold for hours to buy an album to the younguns’. Those days are long over for me.

Isn’t he doing good? If you add up all those versions of the album that frogcookie just posted, he’s seems to be selling really well! He’s not competing with all those people releasing today anyway. Those are all different genres. He’s going to have a great first week… I bet he outsells Jordin’s! And she’s doing great now, so imagine where Archie will be in a year. We need to get out of the Idol competition mode (not directed at you per se soundscene, but in general, we all do it). But I guess its part of the fun too.

And to add something about the album. I wasn’t sure what I love about WFM and now I’m finally figuring it out. This song does not attempt to be current R&B, does not attempt to be a hit, isn’t processed, isn’t about anything serious. It’s just fun, catchy, enjoyable simple song, total ear-worm. It’s going to be the one that I listen very often to cheer me up. I guess an album full of that kind of songs would not sell well but this one is a nice add to the whole thing.

I love love all the bonus tracks. “Works For Me” is brilliant, “work’s out just fine…” love it, funky and fresh. “Somebody Out There” is so vulnerable.
“Let Me Go” could be a dance hit. “Falling”, wow what can I say? “Waiting for Yesterday” is another hit. Archie has so many hits on this album. He can really release any song for his next single. I am so happy for him right now. You did it Archie! Congrats!

Have you guys checked full version of Waiting For Yesterday? It’s on youtube. After 30 seconds snippet, I must admit, it was my least favourite song on the album. Now, if anoyone still thinks the same just give it a try and you’ll change your mind, I promise. I decision was mine Waiting For Yesterday, Works for Me and Falling would end up on regular version of the album.

I’m late to the party, too; just wanted to check in and say GO DAVID!!! So excited for him! Trying to imagine what he and his family must be feeling today – just awesome. Well done and well deserved.

Caffiend, I hear you! I wasnt into David A at all and have just come around lately. I never said anything mean (I dont think I did?) I just wasnt interested and now I am and am glad that I opened my mind and my ears to the little guy. I just hope that you one day will come around to enjoy Jason as much as I, I first of all, hope that Jason brings what I know he has in him to us soon and does it well.

Rolling Stone gives “David Archuleta” the same short 2 1/2 star review it gives to most Idol debuts. (Except Daughtry, he got 2 stars and they called him a cheeseball!)

Caffeind I remember looking forward to what you had to say. I remember feeling like you and I were (and a few others) voices crying out in the wilderness. It was hard being a fan of Archie during that time. Today is such a great day because I am able to share this with so many who finally see his potential. I am just stoked by what the future holds.

I bought my CD today. It’s a good set of songs, although I really really really hate the clapping, the whistling, the whatever-the-fuck they added to the songs. I think that without that, Barriers (and Running) are probably the best in the lot — add in Crush too. It’s a very pleasant CD to drive to…and that’s a major compliment since I hate driving/traffic, and I get cranky.
