This is a rare treat! David Archuleta performed at a big outdoor Christmas show at the Mormon Temple in Santiago, Chile yesterday. David is in South America as a Mormon missionary. He performed 4 songs, in Spanish.

A performance from David while he’s in service to the LDS, until 2014, will be very rare indeed. So, enjoy!

Noche Sagrada (O Holy Night)

Noche de Luz (Silent Night)

Beautiful performances by David. Miss hearing that voice. David’s Spanish in the songs is great.

    ~one word ….magnificent!

  • kimak

this was my Christmas wish.. thank you David this is beautiful!

  • mzbet

I don’t speak Spanish, but when David sings O Holy Night, it doesn’t matter. His performances of that song gives me chills in any language. These were all simply beautiful.

WOW!  Thank you for posting these amazing videos of David.  We really miss him.

  • hellomusicgirl

Love all the songs (still got my fingers crossed that the 4th will be uploaded!) but the one that I keep going back to is O Holy Night. What a beautiful rendition. We’ve heard David sing that song alot — although never in Spanish — but his voice here is just gorgeous. And that little vocal whatever at around 1:30 was nearly lethal to me lol. He doesn’t do that in the English version so I was all caught off guard ;)

It means alot to get to hear him sing, even if for a few songs. Until last night, I don’t think I realized how much I missed it. And old videos and CDs aren’t quite the same.

Honestly one of the things I was concerned about before he left on the mission was that he would go 2 years with little or no singing and how that might affect this voice going forward. Yeah, I’m a selfish fan, so sue me lol. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how many events he has been singing at. Obviously that’s good use of a talent by those in charge but I didn’t know that it would actually happen. So color me happy. And this is perhaps the best early Christmas present that his fans could get.

    Is it 2014 yet???

  • hellomusicgirl

David’s Spanish in the songs is great.

Someone on twitter was mentioning how is Spanish was improved! As a non-Spanish speaker the only comparison I have is Los Pastores a Belen since he sang that in Spanish when he did the special with MoTab and I really can hear a difference. I hope he comes back with an accent, ha!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Archie sings Christmas music so well, and I particularly liked his rendition of “O Holy Night”. David personalized the song with some nice melodic variations that were beautiful.

  • girlygirltoo

Very nice. I don’t speak much Spanish, but that doesn’t really matter.

  • Kitwana

What a pleasant surprise! Notwithstanding the new music that has been released by his team, David himself has been off the grid for the last 9 months. I still can’t believe he was able to transition from the luxury and attention of popstar/tv actor in the Philippines and Singapore in February to anonymity of missionary in March. There’s a book there if he ever wants to write one.

I am very happy to see that he still gets to sing and that he sounds as great as ever. His Spanish also seems to be progressing very nicely. Although he has always been able to speak Spanish, he should be fluent when he gets back in 2014.

Thanks for the videos MJ! Lots of buzz on Twitter and Facebook about David’s private shows in Chile the past few months but there have never been videos or pictures. This is a great find!

Thank you for posting this, Miss David so much.  Glad that he is doing what he loves. Loved all three songs, but O Holy night was very special. Feliz Navidad David.

  • Kitwana

Totally off topic but I would love to see a David Archuleta & Emblem 3 meeting. They seem so different even though both joined reality shows at very young ages.

  • tomr

O Holy Night was SPECTACULAR!!!!!  Thanks for sharing these.

  • seldomused

David has such a beautiful voice!

I always enjoy hearing him sing…

  • cmom

Oh Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song and I wondered what a Spanish version would sound like and and so thank you for posting  Archie’s ”Concierto Navidad” video of it. I have now listened to it 10 times. Like another poster said, whatever it is that he does in the song from 1:25-1:43 (and then of course the ending) has me so hooked – I keep re-listening to try to figure it out. Is it the smooth tone of his voice going up and down or what? I have no idea but this is very beautiful.

Love all the songs David performed! What a treat for us while he is gone.  English or Spanish, he is amazing! Can’t wait for this welcome home concert in 2014. I am so there! #D2014

When Mormon missionaries are sent out to “foreign” missions the English speakers usually are part of a team with one of the young men speaking that “foreign” language as their primary language so, probably, Archie has a native Spanish speaking companion.  David is in an environment where he doesn’t even hear much English, let alone speak it.  He is totally immersed in the culture, and like my nephews before him, will probably come home dreaming in Spanish.

And the LDS Church is very pro-active with using their resources, including missionaries, as marketing “tools”, for want of a better word (no negativity intended).  These kids are a reflection of the Church they embrace and what better way to reach the masses than to provide them with some marvelous talent like a David to show what the LDS Church has to offer.

And, for me, I am hopeful that David will return home and to his music not as a “teen” idol (which he was never cut out to be) but with a marvelous mature gift that he can share.  I don’t see much pop and mainstream fru-fru in David’s future and, for me, that will be a very, very good thing for us and him.

  • EvenMoreron

I rooted for Cook and Brooke (and Alexandrea!) that season, but David A. is still one of the most stunningly pure and effortless voices Idol will ever have.

  • Kitwana

Tess, I would love to see David mentored by Christina A on the Voice when he gets back in 2014.

  • http://www.facebook.com/djafans Fan Dja

David A’s espanol is dang amazing.  That Oh Santa Noche is out of this world, David brings such joy to Los Pastores and what a harmonizer in Noche De Paz.  This has been a welcomed surprise.  Music as part of his mission is perfect.  I hope The Prayer and everything he sang shows up!

Thank you MJ for posting this :)

These performances are so beautiful! So thankful he is singing in Chile and using that great voice!  Thanks for this article on this great singer and man.

  • heike hoffmann

While I´m not a fan of his voice ( in Pop songs ), I think such religous christmas-songs sound great with him. And his voice would fit very well with classical music.

  • JudyOhio

What a beautiful voice and what a beautiful young man.  Loved these videos, thanks mj.  Archie’s Christmas album remains my favorite still.  I’ve thought, if more people sampled that album, it would be toward the top of the Christmas album sellers each year. It is so good.  Back to the Spanish though, I wouldn’t be surprised if he put out a full album in Spanish upon his return.  This is one talented artist.  I think he does well on pretty much everything he puts out musically.  I sometimes feel the mature David often goes unappreciated by the masses, but hopefully one day many, many more will discover him and in the end …his day will come :).  I’ll always be a fan.

MJ, maybe you could add this up top :)

    The Prayer

  • hellomusicgirl

Yay, Fan Dja! You found it! The lone non-Spanish song from last night. This is a duet sung in English & Italian. I’m familiar with the Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli version but I think many have covered it. The young lady he’s singing with here is Rebecca Lopez. She has a beautiful voice!

  • durbesque

What a treat to hear David’s beautiful voice in the male part of “The Prayer”.  I found the soprano’s voice too shrill and grating for this song, and certainly not a blend at all with David’s voice.  Doesn’t matter, they won’t be touring together.

  • sue

This is a happy day in the Archufandom! Thank you to the wonderful Chilean fans that uploaded these videos. The drought is over!!!!! I love this X-Mas present! :)

  • cmom

That duet of The Prayer (in Italian and English?) he is singing with Rebecca Lopez who also has a great voice and they blend them beautifully together.

  • http://twitter.com/Marlie7 Marlie

What a Christmas gift!  Is it possible that David’s voice just keeps getting better and better? He is magnificent in these!

  • Kitwana

David’s duet of The Prayer is so beautiful. What I like about his voice is how pretty and powerful it sounds without sounding “broadway” like Lea Michele, Darren Criss or Nick Jonas.

If I were managing him, I would market him by presenting him as the anti-Emblem 3 or Justin Bieber. Someone who us young, humble, vocally talented and not the product of marketing. That is how Simon tried to market Emblem 3 in their first appearance on X-Factor – presenting them in contrast to the stereotypical boybander. Problem is, they are just as manufactured (albeit as a different product line – the poor street kids who refuse to conform hahahahahahahahahaha) and just as untalented. The marketing is not working. It would work with David because he is different – materially different – than his contemporaries in the pop world today. 2014 will be interesting.

Can’t wait for 2014 … but I’m gonna have to. These videos were a REAL treat. Thanks for posting, MJ.

Cute little story that was posted about meeting David at the Christmas devotional yesterday:

“I was at the Christmas Devotional today, my best friends are in the chorus so i went early at the temple square, We were in the church singing and playing piano, then Seba said “oh Nina you’re a fan of Archuleta, you know all his songs” and I was like “hey … I only know one of his songs on piano”, so I started play the song on piano and guess what … yes, elder Archuleta came, laughed and said “hey … that’s my song.” We were amazed and I obviously got very shy, He talked to us for a while and then we could be in his essay before of the devotional. He’s very friendly and funny. I had seen him in another musical devotional, but this was amazing, I could not be more embarrassed, he hummed a little bit of the song and then told me to keep playing, and He also said that I played the piano well, the truth is that I can not touch in front of people, and with him there I was more nervous even.”

Yes, it is a rare find, MJ.

Not a big fan of David A throughout his Idol run (I thought he was too young and too poppy).  But with his matured voice and musical direction, I can see him becoming the next Josh Grobin.  And that’s a good thing.

Thanks MJ and David.  Looking forward to 2014.

  • Davidx2

Thanks so much for the David videos from Chile….what a special treat.  It wouldn’t be Christmas without hearing David’s beautiful voice!

  • Menzell

more into archie’s pop sound tbh (“Broken” is one sick track, bring on more of that in 2014 dude) but ehe christmas  carols en espanol … muy bien muy bien

  • kmd23

I actually like Archie doing  pop, Spanish songs, and the more traditional Christmas music. Just because he does one genre of music does not mean he can’t do the other. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for his career when he returns to it.

    It sure is!

Thanks MJ for posting these videos.  What a gem of a find!  Any more?  I’m craving for more.  Since discussing the type of music Archie should sing – I like him singing this type.  Incredible!

David’s performance is STUNNING! Takes your breath away….*sigh*

My computer crashed on Friday, so I have been without internet access since then.  Look what I missed.  My goodness, David has certainly not lost any of his amazing talent.  I am also glad that they are keeping his voice busy with these concerts.  David is happiest while singing, and he makes everyone who listens happy, too.  Thanks, MJ, for posting these wonderful videos.  I would think it would be very hard to sing a duet with someone who is that far away from you.  They did a great job, though.
