David Archuleta blogs on My Space:

Hey guys! We’re getting close to making final decisions on which songs are going to go on the album, and it’s pretty exciting! The last few days have mainly been recording still, and just finalizing the songs to see which ones will be the best fit.

David’s self-titled debut album drops on November 11.   He’s still rooming with Brooke White in Los Angeles while he works on his album:

So last night I helped out Brooke and her Husband, Dave, with rearranging their stuff in the bedroom haha. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think I was a whole lot of help, but it was still fun. We listened to music, talked, andà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ moved stuff around lol. Brookeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been in Arizona for the past week or so, so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nice to have her back! But sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s actually going to try and give me a haircut here before I leave to do some more recording. Brookeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s awesome haha. We only have a little bit of time for that though so I better get going and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll talk to you.

No fancy haircuts for David. Ha ha.

He’s just so random…I love it!

*makes mental picture of Brooke hovering over Archie with scissors in hand*

It’s so sweet of David to help them rearrange the furniture, and it’s so sweet of Brooke to cut his hair. They’re both so sweet.

Wow, I can’t wait to see what they’ve selected for the album. I wonder how many songs he’s recorded that won’t make the final cut. And what happens to those songs? Are they left on reserve for future albums? Are they kept under lock and key in case the rejects are ultimately given to a different artist?

This is part of the rest of the blog…

If you’ve been reading the alloy.com blogs I’ve been doing, then you probably already know about what happened this weekend with my brother and sisters visiting to come to Miley Cyrus’s sweet 16. It was a lot of fun, and it was cool being able to spend some time with them. It was just unbelievable how big of a birthday party it was! I’ve never seen anything like that haha. I put some pictures up on the alloy blog, but I have some more to show to you guys too.

I went to the Alloy blog, but I don’t see any pictures there except for the one of him in the studio. And I don’t remember him talking about his family coming down for the sweet 16 party. He did mention them coming to LA but that was on his MySpace vlog. Maybe he’s confusing the two blog sources? There are Disney pics of his siblings on his MySpace, but not on Alloy. Maybe I’m over-scrutinizing everything. What does it matter any way which blog it is? I’m just so happy that he lets us be a part of his life through these messages on such a regular basis. He really appreciates his fans. :smile2_tb:

  • Davidx2

:jittery_tb: No….don’t get that hair cut again! It looks better a little bit longer.

  • lefty

OK, that blog is just a big slice of happiness. I think rays of sunshine shot out of my monitor when I read it. I’m going to be smiling for the rest of the day.

Wow!! Is this for real? Below is a link to David singing “God Bless America” when he was younger. It is quite stirring. Can you imagine how he’ll sound when he sings it tomorrow?

I love his blog. He’s so sweetie. Even moving is fun? haha..I hope Brook gave him nice hair cut.
I also happy to see David on TV. I’m so exciting. He’ll do great job!!

  • dante

DA is just too cute for words! I am one of the many Cook fans who now loves Archie too. LOL at Brooke cutting his hair.

  • JudyOhio

Just listened to his singing “God Bless America” also. Simply beautiful. I can imagine him singing that now that he is older. It would be powereful.

As a matter of fact, they should be penciling him in right NOW to sing that somewhere in the presidential inauguration ceremonies. Seriously.

  • Nattevakt

I have to say, I really like to follow everything these season 7 idols are doing :) It’s the first time I follow an AI season actually…

Lately I was so obsess with Cook’s album that I totally forgot that Archie is making his own right now LOL. And I’m quite curious about it : will it be full of “crush”-kind of songs or a patchwork of everything he can do? Is Crush the best song on the album or did they keep some treasure under their sleeves? How many original songs are we expecting? (I think I read somewhere that there will be a spanish version of Angel and a spanish version of Crush in his album, correct me if I’m wrong).

Little side topic here : I have to say I still have issues with i-Tunes and singles download in general. My theory is that the more i-Tunes singles you sell, the less album you sell (and not necessery vice versa). Specially if the launching of the album is very close… How are you helping album sales if you can buy songs one by one?? Singles are usefull for radio play and making you known, but selling them to much and people will not feel the urge of bying the all album. I’m maybe totally out of the reality here since I really never buy on i-Tunes, but lets say I don’t like how music is now consume instead of enjoyed.

  • LK08

JudyOhio- I’m Not saying Obama will win or who I want to win, but I did read that his family were Archies.

The haircut- Over at http://www.fansofdavid.com they are talking about raiding Brooke’s trash and each getting a strand of David’s “ebony” hair. It is hilarious, and these are not teens.

David will be on Today’s NBC on Nov. 11…

    I love both Brookeand DA.

DA is so likable and accessible, and most of all, so normal, so unlike a celebrity, talking about haircut and moving stuff in the bedroom (Jason is like that too) So refreshing and I think it’s going to carry him far.

Putting finishing touch to the album? yay! When do we get to hear the preview of the album? Isn’t that a week before the album drops? So not a long wait now!

  • gerreb

I love Archie’s blogs…they can be so random. :) Can’t wait for that album…I have a really good feeling about it! Only 1 more month!!!

Some in the music biz will agree with this. There are some artists who will not sell individual tracks from their albums. There are some that argue that the Album is going the way of the dodo because everybody is buying their albums a la carte. Concept albums are dead!

Meanwhile, others argue that it’s making albums better because now there is an incentive to make an album full of quality songs instead of two hits and 10 filler songs. Concept albums will be the norm!

The thing is, iTunes serves a very useful purpose. It allows artists to get paid for their songs. Prior to iTunes and other music services, the downloading of pirated songs was rampant. It still is, but there are a lot of people who are willing to pay for a song so at least they are getting money from those people (and then there are the people who don’t want to get a virus). If a song (e.g. prior to album release) is not available for sale, even those who are likely to pay for music might justify downloading it illegally because that is the only way to get it. We are starting to see a foreshortening of radio releases to iTunes releases. Before, artists wanted to make sure that they did well on the charts and would wait 4 to 6 weeks. Now, they want to make sure they get paid and release to iTunes sooner (like a week or two…or in the case of Nickelback, the same day).

Singles have been around for a long time. Back in the days of 45s, they sold a lot of those things and they probably effected albums sales as well. Having a single out might cause people not to buy the album, but at least they are buying something.

And, here is something I personally do. I find a lot of times I buy a single when it is extremely unlikely I would ever have purchased the CD. Maybe I only like one song from the artist. Or sometimes, it’s because the song is a fun song I like, but I don’t think I’ll love it forever. For $1, I get the song. What’s one dollar? Where I live, it’s literally change. I don’t think all too much about an impulse buy of $1. When it gets to $10-$18, I start asking myself if I really want it or is it just going to be a dust collector. No dust on iTunes.

    Just my opinion.

  • ozarka

Thanks for that enlightening explanation, Kirsten. I’m new to the whole iTunes world. Is it more of the norm for every single track on an album to be available for purchase? Or is it more of the norm to only have 1 or 2 tracks from the album available. Let’s say for example DA decides he wants each song on the album to be available for purchase a la carte. The album is released on November 11th. How long would it be after that date will the rest of the tracks be available for purchase? I’m just curious as to how this all works.

  • frogcooke

Archie will APPEAR on the VH1 countdown. Per fans of david.

He is listed under upcoming guests for 11/15

  • Kirsten

How long would it be after that date will the rest of the tracks be available for purchase?

They are normally released together. They’ll release every track for sale when the album goes on sale. That’s why you’ll sometimes see a bunch of songs from a single artist appear on the charts (e.g. Kellie and Jennifer both had two songs in the top 200 this week).

Now, the one exception is bonus tracks. If there is a bonus track exclusive to iTunes, then you have to purchase the entire album to get that track. In the past, a lot of Idols put bonus tracks on their albums. Some will even have different bonus tracks at different sites (e.g. a bonus track for iTunes and one for WalMart).

After the album goes for sale, you can “complete your album” on iTunes which will sell the album at a discounted price (discounting for the singles you have already purchased). If you do that, the total and weekly albums sales will be incremented by one while the total single sales will be decremented by one (according to 2m at Pulse, it doesn’t affect the weekly numbers).

  • ozarka

Thank you so much Kirsten! You’re so knowledgeable.

And thank you, Froggie! You’re always the bearer of good news.

  • Layla

I wonder how many people downloaded LO illegally? Despite the bruhaha over this gifting thing, I am glad that it was organized on DCO as this allowed fans who live abroad to get it legally. It’s different with the record because fans abroad can order it on Amazon.com and have a friendor family member send it, or have it sent direct and just pay the extra for postage and import tax.

Yeps…Kristen is VERY knowedgable. She’s a great source here at MJ’s.

  • cruzceleste

Yes… Love DAÂ ´s blogs they are fun to read adn very random, I can imagine David and Dave being bossing around by Brooke telling them were to put their bed… lol… fun stuff… and Brooke cutting his hair….

Also is nice that Aloff is starting to work in promoting him… Go Archie, Go Aloff… Go selftitled Album…

Hi Kristen, that’s true that singles are almost as old as the music business, and I understand the financial gain to make people buy them instead of “steal” them. The problem I have with digital dowloads is the “message” that delivers. Songs are now just digist buried inside your computer, among others digist, so many different type of songs that people barely listen to…
I remember when I was a teenager bying these CD-singles, and even if they are not so practical to play on a stereo (you are bound to listen to the same couple of songs for 1 hour or changing the CD every 15minutes), you own something, a piece of paper and plastic, with its own cover, sometimes a little book and rare songs. It’s like a collector, like these little images you pin on a book. Hell I even remember the 1st vinyl I got when I was 5 (ahh Ulysses 31)… I bet nobody remember their 1st i-Tunes purchase in 10 years…
And then comes the album: why people nowadays will bother bying the CD when it’s merely just a gathering of digits/songs that you can buy 1$ or find in the net? But if you make the album (the materiel object) worth bying it (superior quality, with a DVD, a special cover…), and value music for its artistical value rather than its consumable value, then you can forget the downloads…
I myself don’t buy that many CDs a year, maybe 5, it’s like you said a commitment process. But I always buy special albums who cost more than 25 $ but which are worth keeping it… And I will not exange these CDs again 25 i-Tunes songs… And unfortunatly, I presume DA or DC albums will not contain any special covers or even a DVD *sight*

Reason # 67,435 to admire (okay, love, i’ll admit it) this guy: Even though he is being pulled in a million different directions every day, constantly going 100 miles an hour, he still finds time to write to his fans. What other superstar does that? I totally love hearing the mundane little details of his day. He’s a celebrity who doesn’t act like one. What a concept!

And I feel sorry for Brooke’s neighbors. Who could sleep with that constant giga-watt of sunniness spewing out of her house. The two of them together are like the land of eternal sunshine, lol.

  • Kirsten

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like a collector, like these little images you pin on a book.

Nattevakt, I think a lot of people agree with you. I see a lot of people posting that when they really like an album/artist they will buy the pyhsical CD (or even the vinyl. You can sometimes order those directly from the label’s site). CD quality is way better than the quality you get from iTunes. Plus, you get the liner notes which I love.

But now, the artist can also make some money from “collectors” who don’t want the entire CD, but wouldn’t mind owning a song or two. If people like you continue to buy your 5 albums a year and also pick up 10 or so iTunes singles, the music biz is ahead of the game.

I must admit I do like my iPod. When I just want to listen to some tunes while I’m planting the garden, it’s great to have hundreds of songs at my finger-tips so I don’t have to keep changing/finding CDs I want to play. Plus, it’s easier to carry to work and I don’t have to shuffle CDs back and forth. So, I see it as the right tool for the right job.

I appreciate where you are coming from. I have the same problem with digital cameras. All the photos are just endless bits in the computer, rarely making it to the album. And people just snap away like crazies, so the pictures have less meaning (why not take a picture of my shoe?) On the one hand, you get a lot more creative pictures (no more endless pictures of little Johnny standing in front of such-and-such), but you also get a lot more crap. And I still think the depth and warmth of film is better than that of digital cameras. But, I still own a digital camera. On a recent trip, I brought both the digital camera and a film camera. When I took the 5 rolls of film in to be developed, everybody who worked in the store came to see the crazy lady who had so many rolls of film. I used to bring in 20 rolls of film to that same store and they wouldn’t bat an eye. LOL. Times, they are a changing.

Topic? Er! Move that furniture, Archie!

With the two of them in that house I wouldn’t be surprised to see that magic rainbow, lol.

    Times, they are a changing.

Indeed, love all the gains, but saddened by some of the stuff we will lose in the process. Great discusssion Kirsten and Nattevak! Viva la ipod, adios cds and liner notes? ‘Sigh’, sorta feel like singing Auld Ange Syne.

Topic? Er! Move that furniture, Archie!

Oh yeah, and how did that haircut go! Think video girl might pay attention now!!?
