love seeing david ” rock it out” with speedwagon…. just another wonderful surprise he’s laid on us in the past year… that’s what i find so exciting about following his career this past year, from idol to now – he’s exceeded expectations and continues to shatter misconceptions about the depth of his talent… this year has taught me a great deal about patience, and giving him space to grow into the artist he’s destined to be… i can live through disney and hannah and lovato, because of the glimpses of that artist he’s growing into from seeing him live, watching him perform via youtube in venues all around the globe and getting the same overwhelmingly positive response, and in settings like this… keep working it out david :smoke_tb:

I think he’s so much better on this kind of music than with the R&B influenced pop that the label has seemed to saddle him with. Hope we see more pop/rock stuff from David in the future.

Dang I was in SLC that night and I missed this. Love REO and Styx so it would have been a great concert just seeing them. But to me seeing David doing this would have been icing on the cake. (I saw Styx when I was 14 in 1973) :cool1_tb: I believe that David can sing anything. I am so looking forward to his career! :clap_tb:

In one of his twits, David said (after this concert by REO) that he forgot how fun “AOR” could be. I had to google what “AOR” meant and its actually the acronym for “Adult Oriented Rock”. Since when has he done AOR? since he was 9? lol…I find his knowledge about music impressive…and Im way older than him.

That was something Slezak’s interview last year illustrated well. At age seventeen Archie’s knowledge of contemporary music was an eye-opener to many who had underestimated him. And he’s not just familiar with the American scene. He knows European and Australian music as well. He’s ventured into songwriting too. Zero Gravity was an impressive achievment for a novice–better than most of the stuff out there.

These days AOR is mostly Classic Rock and that is what I think David was refering to. Consdering his father’s age, David probably grew up listening to stuff like that and sang along to it.

Awwww….that has to be the cutest rocker on the face of the planet. He looks like he is having the time of his life.

AOR in this context means ALBUM oriented rock, not adult. Google that for more info.

I wish they would let him do more pop-rock. He seems to enjoy it more. Besides, the songs they’re giving him have really strange melodies to sing live. I’m glad he’s trying to go in a different direction for the secnd album.

Well how damn cute is THAT. I wasnt a fan of season 7 but this is adorable and he does look so into it.

Ahhhhhhh, to be that young and energetic once again. I live vicariously through these kids I tell ya.

This is pretty cool. He’s been to a lot of concerts this year. And toured a ton. He is developing quite the education/resume, I’d say. He’s been described as a sponge, a jukebox, etc. I’m continually surprised at the songs/artists he’s familiar with. I wonder if he ever forgets a melody once he hears it. They just seem to pop out of him all the time. It’s been so much fun watching him apply his natural abilities and grow as a performer. And it’s been a hoot watching him have so much fun.

I’m going to give David the thumbs up on this one. That was pretty darn entertaining. I’m not David’s target market, and I’m not a fan of his music. But, he sure seems like a great kid, with good pipes, who’s working hard to get where he wants to be. I have a lot of respect for that.

I must say, I feel anything about last year’s top 2 is far more interesting to watch and listen to than anything from season 8. This was a fun peek at David, and I love how he has come into his own and feels comfortable rocking the stage. That was fun to watch! His energy is contagious. No comment on the vocals from me, because it has all been said before about his beautiful voice! Go Archie!
