Oh, WOW! David looks gorgeous and sounds incredible! Thank you for the hd video!!

  • heidijoy

David looks and sounds fantastic. Saw him on Fox TV too! I keep hoping for one more song but don’ know if it will be on TV. Fans there say the crowd loved him. Yea! Bring on the tour. Happy New Year!!

  • LK10

It’s not the New Year here yet, but Happy New Year to those in the East!!

    David, you are amazing!

  • frogcooke

I love TOSOD! One of my favs on the cd.

  • kmd

David looked and sounded great. I love TOSOD.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/wp-admin/profile.php ercheers

Loved both performances by David tonight. He did TOSOD and ended the show with Elevator. He looked and sounded fantastic.

Any news on a tour yet? I want him to come here so bad. Haven’t seen him live for over a year now. To long! sigh

  • frogcooke

Yay thanks for the awesome vids.

Love the way he ended elevator!

  • violet4ever

He did great and looked fantastic. And it was super cold there. 28 degrees when the show started and someone said 23 by the time he sang Elevator.

  • cmom

Thanks so much for the videos, mj! I really love The Other Side of Down – glad he sang it.

  • frogcooke

ewww violet. I hate the cold lol. Has to suck singing in the cold too.

  • Davidx2

David was awesome on both performances!! Loved TOSOD and Elevator rocked!!

  • oza902

Ahh! Thanks for Elevator, MJ. David got to close the show!! Super cool! He was certainly the highlight of that show. Good for David. He sure deserves it.

Thank God for WEG!! Now let’s TOUR!

  • LCT

OMG, Does he look hawt!!! He’s gorgeous in black! Thanks MJ for posting so quickly! Don’t get these shows here in Europe so I can always count on coming here right away coz I know things get posted ASAP!

  • oza902

I can’t get over how amazing Elevator was! Love that song and I love it when David R&B’s the crap out of it. lol

  • heidijoy

Yea! He sang Elevator to take us into 2011!! Fantastic Performances. Lots of positive tweets!! Happy New Year!

  • Suzanne

MJ always uses the best shots to head the thread. David looks so great here. Can’t wait to run the vids. Thx for posting them so quickly.

Excited that he picked the Other Side of Down as his main performance. Such a positive-spirited song.

  • loveroftalent

David sounded really good. My husband didn’t care for it, but I enjoyed it. He was alot better than alot of the perfomers I’ve been watching on TV all night. I can’t believe how many now a days, does not sing live.

  • archiedoll

Yep. That’s the way to show ’em how it’s done, D. Great job!!! I’m soooo happy that he got this gig tonight (thank you, WEG!). It’s been soooo long since he’s had this much TV exposure, and he nailed it. It’s obvious (and kinda sad) that most of the audience has never heard his music before, and just stood there blankly. But a few ppl knew the words, and hopefully he gained alot of fans after tonight. Love, love, love his confidence during this performance.

  • kaycee

Awesome performance tonight! He looked great and sounded fantastic and handled the stage like a real pro!

  • patsafan

WOW! Considering it was 32 degrees (or colder) by the end of the show, he did amazing. Hell, I can barely talk when it’s that cold! So good to see him on TV again. From tweets after the show, seems lots of people were quite surprised at how good he is live, and are now looking to download songs. Now we can only hope they do it legally! People just need to hear him sing live, to understand how good he is. Happy New Year, MJ, and everyone else!!

  • Suzanne

he did great. And he was on in the first half hour, before New Years Rockin Eve started over on ABC.

Love his confidence and he was particularly cute looking and animated, which was fun. I love that he picked The Other Side of Down to do because he hasn’t had a chance to show millions of people his sound on this album, and I think that song really typifies the sound of his CD. Kind of wish he’d done Stomping the Roses as the closer though–something with more bite than Elevator. He’s great on the ballads of his CD,but neither would have worked in the cold. Elevator is such a pop throwback sound that it sounds like it’s wriiten for children.

  • KathyH

David sounded great and looked great … My husband and I enjoyed his performances. We watch NYE shows every year and people who sound good live are an exception. We liked the plain white tees too and mariah’s performance was ” interesting”. (so overdone)

  • kmd

I watched some of the other NYE’s shows cause I was changing channels. I honestly thought David’s performance of TOSOD was one of the best last night. At least David can sing live when it is that cold out and sound great. I would love to have seen him do STR or SBL but I thought he did well with Elevator. It is still not my favorite. I thought that his new band was GREAT.

  • Jae

I like David’s performance! I think its great that he took a little time to grow up. You can tell he is just an even better perormer. I loved his energy on stage. He reminded me of the lead singer for The Script.:)

  • Grammie Kari

David looked so cool and sounded good! I didn’t like the overlap with Jennifer Hudson’s performance. Two past Idols on at the same time is a no-no. He just seems like such a sweetheart.

BTW, I don’t follow too much, but he does look taller. Is he?

  • JudyOhio

Happy New Year MJ and to the MJ readers/posters! This was a good performance, TOSOD sounded great! Especially liked the little “sound” he makes at :33. The crowd was receptive to him, liked that, and I like this particular band group he has now. Never heard the term “Archie’s Army” before, lol, but whatever. Anyway, he looked very cute/handsome, hard to believe he’s 20 now!
Nice pic at the top of this thread too, one of the best I’ve seen of him! Hope David has a good 2011, personally and professionally!

  • tierbee

That darn Elevator song is the biggest earworm, lol. Good job, Archie :) He looked so happy and confident!

  • mhel

david you were INCREDIBLE last night..i enjoyed your 2 performances….tosod and elevator are two of my faves…you made me sooooooo happy this new year! woooo hooo!

    more power david archuleta!

    thanks mj!happy new year!

  • djafan

David sounded and looked amazing last night! He hit both songs out of the park. So glad for this opportunity for him, the tweets were pouring in from fans and non fans who were pleasantly surprised that David has grown up and how great he sounds live.

Hoping for more tv appearances and patiently waiting (not) for tour info or any other type of appearances!

  • Kris

David looked and sounded great! I do agree that he looked confident. I noticed David’s level of confidence improving when he performed at The Majestic Theater. He was just moving and strutting along. My mom noticed his confidence as well. She was surprised because she hadn’t seen him since Idol. I think part of the happiness and confidence is that he just loves these songs so much. He just loves performing them.

I’m not the biggest fan of Elevator, but it is an earworm. After I first heard it, it would randomly pop up in my head. I would just be thinking of something else and Elevator would appear.

I didn’t originally think of David singing TOSOD, even though it is one of my favorites. It was uptempo enough and I think it fit for a New Years Eve gig. I think it fits a lot of people’s New Years Resolution.

  • windmills

I just watched The Other Side Of Down. Wow Archie’s really grown as a performer, I really enjoyed that and he sounded really good. Great job Archie!

    Thanks for posting video MJ!

  • LCT

Archie’s Army? Never heard of that term. I simply enjoy listening to a guy with great vocals, great to look at and support a respectful artist. Also enjoyed watching him grow before our eyes. Can tell he’s come a long way since AI – season 7?

  • LCT

Boy, he changed up Elevator alot! Like it sung this way better but I have to say my favorite song I just love is his Stomping the Roses!

  • Kris

Yeah, STR is one of my favorites. I think that would have been a good one to sing as well. A good crowd-pleaser.

  • Kitwana

Those performances last night prove once again that David is not intimidated by big events. He was singing in front of an audience that was pretty different than the ones he typically sings to. He had no backup dancers or pyro to take pressure off him during the performances. He must have known how important it was to do well in front of a national TV audience. It was freezing cold. Yet despite all this, he really hit the ball out of the park and did unbelievably well. I really admire how well he does under pressure. Many of his contemporaries would have folded or not even tried (i.e. lip synching). But I guess when you have that much talent and are so young, there is no reason to ever feel intimidated. haha

  • Suzanne

Did anyone watch the other performances on FOX? Were any of them lip synching?

  • rhed31

    David did great. :)

  • heidijoy

I think Travie was lip synching. The country performances were from a previous televised Country show and Mariah’s was a pre-recorded performance. Not sure about the other group.
David was the best performer and looked the best!! He also sounded the best! (I might be a little prejudiced!)

  • frogcooke

Travie was just kind of standing and not doing much during his song billionaire while bruno sang on the track.

  • djafan

They should’ve had David sing the Bruno Mars part :)

  • KathyH

I don’t think the plain white tees were lip synching. Not sure though.

  • kmd

I am not a Travie fan. It does not matter if he sings live or is lip synching. He needs Bruno in order to sound good. Love Bruno and David.

  • Kitwana

David Archuleta aside, I thought the Fox New Year’s Eve special was pretty good. It was well paced and did not have too much inane filler (Jenny McCarthy anyone?). The last time I watched Fox on New Year’s was in 2008 and all I kept hearing about was Robbie Knieval jumping the volcano at the Mirage. It was so cheesy. Everytime I watch the Dick Clark New Year’s special I wonder why Ryan Seacrest is famous. He is really not particularly talented and comes across as a bit phoney. I can think of a number of hosts of reality shows who would do a better job than him on that big special. I wonder why they keep sticking with Ryan?

  • LK10

Did you catch the archugrowl at around 1:50 in TOSOD?

  • LCT

I just finished listening/watching these two pop songs by David and admiring how gorgeous he looks and then I turned to listen to his Cat and the Mouse Carol along with Los Pastores a Belen and also admiring how gorgeous he looked in a tux!! OMG, he’s soo.. good at both genres! Is he too versatile to be boxed into one genre? It will be interesting to see him in 3 or 4 years from now!

  • heidijoy

Overall enjoyed the show! Nancy O’Dell was a good host and the Plain White T’s were a pleasant sounding clean cut group. Didn’t get the impression they were lip synching Susanne as Kathy H indicated. …and I was thrilled with David’s performance. Loved Jim Cantello’s tweet to David! He didn’t know how David could sound so good and look so comfy because it was so cold in Vegas. Bravo!!

  • KathyH

Jenny McCarthy drove me crazy within a minute of watching. I didn’t expect to enjoy the Fox airing more than Abc’s offering, but I did. I have a hard time believing that too many people take Kesha seriously.

  • HappyDaisy

David’s The Other Side of Down last night was excellent! He looked fabulous, sounded great, and had so much confidence and energy. David stepped up to the plate and hit a home run with this opportunity. Love his sassy expression at the end of the song.

Glad he did TOSOD (my favorite on the album) first, when I would guess there were more viewers than at the end of the show. Nice that he could close out the show with that other song he likes :) (should have done Stomping the Roses!).

Here’s another crystal clear version of The Other Side of Down performance:

  • kmd

I have to agree that both Ryan and Jenny were not that great on ABC. I also did not like a lot of the performances. FOX was better this year. David really did show a lot of confidence and energy. It was very impressive. No doubt about that.

  • Stephdanielle

So loved David’s performances, even in the freezing cold he is absolutely AMAZING!! :)

  • djafan

Found this on FOD from IDF. I don’t think it’s to late for TOSOD.

The Other Side of Down is now ranked 889 on the iTunes overall album chart. This is its first appearance in I don’t know how long. On Pop, the album is at 130 and 234 – also the highest the two albums have been for a very long time. I know these chart rankings jump around hourly but it really shows the value of a national TV appearance. It makes you wonder how much better the album would have done with some real promotion or radio play.

Good to know the promo helped. Some idols have had some high profile TV gigs with little or no impact on their sales. I think the Fox special was the biggest promo for David’s album other than Regis and Kelly during album release week. There were no night time talkshow appearances for the album release. Despite taking way too long to find new management, I think David made a good choice in selecting WEG. Unlike his previous team, WEG just seems more focused on David.

  • Grammie Kari

After 12:30 am, ABC presented some good performances. Ryan has been chosen by Dick Clark as “heir apparent” and I like him. Fergie did a pretty good job with the hosting role.

If I have a question about David, I suppose I should go to his website?

  • music78girl

If I have a question about David, I suppose I should go to his website?

LOL only if you want to be frustrated. Not many David fans visit his official website, sadly. It’s not very well maintained. That’s one of the reasons why he has such active fansites.

Is your question just a general one?

  • djafan

    I with music78girl.

    Ask away.

  • kmd

It is good to see some numbers for David on the itunes chart. I agree that Melinda and WEG were a good choice. I can’t wait to see details about a tour this year.

  • goboywonder

Was there everyone sang live. However, they pretaped Travie’s song because there wasn’t enough time to keep setting up different bands. The show was fun but it was very, very cold. They showed my daughter singing during elevator.
