David Archuleta Performing on Idol Next Wednesday, Jordin Sparks Set for Top 3?

I am sooooo excited to see Archie back on the Idol stage. But I have to admit that I’m a tad nervous…I mean–what the heck is he going to sing??? Will he sing ALTNOY? It seems like that single’s time has passed. Will it be TMH–(not one of my fave’s from his CD, sorry) although it is more uptempo? I actually started envisioning him singing Zero Gravity and working the stage like in his concert performances. I think that would surprise a lot of people. But the song is soooo high and it’s not even a single. So…??? Whatever happens, I hope it only brings good exposure for him. GAH–I’m going to be nervous once again next week…

I feel bad for David. I mean, it will be great to see him on AI and the publicity will be incredible. But it really messes things up in the UK. I wonder who will open for McFly on those nights?

Can we replace him with Melinda or Elliott? His album is done, and his song has already finished flopping. He has nothing to promote. Not to mention he has to go out of his way to perform. Melinda and Elliott are in desperate need of the promo, and idol would do wonders for them.

i really don’t care what he sings – as long as it’s not a ballad… so do. not. want to hear tbwy w/kara, or anything else in that vein….. david has matured a great deal since last year, personally and musically, and needs one of the uptempo numbers to show this growth… touch my hand would be ideal, but really – i’m not gonna speculate too much about his song choice – whatever he sings is going to get a boost… it’s up to those charged with those decisions to make the best one….. we, the fans, just want to see him on our tv screens once more on wednesday night – like he said before singing shop around… i’m getting shakey just thinking about it :jittery_tb:

Has a third single been announced for Archie? I hadn’t seen an adds date yet but this would be an ideal time to premiere it if they can pull together a radio promo plan to capitalize on the performance. It does make more sense to have Jordin on late in the season since her album is set for release at the end of the summer. I also heard that Daughtry’s record might be releasing as early as July now, so I wonder if they’ll slot him into the finale or another late-season results show? These past-Idol performance slots are filling-up quickly!

ETA: sma11ie, I believe the plan is to have Jordin premiere the first single from her new album when she performs on Idol. I do believe they are done with her debut record at this point.

Archie’s UK tour seems more like something that will give him a bit of experience than anything else. Missing two shows won’t hurt him or anything. Being on idol is more important promo wise.

i believe just appearing on idol is all the promotion he needs… remember, there are folks who haven’t seen nor followed him since the finale last year, and once they see that he has managed to do pretty darn well for himself after idol – a platinum single and a gold album for someone written off by many as having no mainstream appeal is sure to make some casual fans sit up and take notice….. …. and altnoy didn’t live up to projections – big whoop… david will have other opportunities to strike singles gold, but just reappearing on the idol stage, with a year’s worth of seasoning under his belt is going to rock some people’s world… this ain’t the same little archie from idol 2008, and i just want him to sing and do well – that’s all…. it’s his turn to come back and has his day in the sun…. as will all the others like elliott and melinda :smile1_tb:

Archie doesn’t have a 3rd single, and right now I doubt he will. If there was a plan to put one out, the smart thing would have been to set an add date close to the Idol performance and let it be the public debut of a new single (Like all the other Idols have done so far, except maybe Kelly and Kellie, who both performed current singles released a while ago).
I thought they might do that with Touch My Hand, but as far as I know right now there is no add date for it or any other single.
Or this might be a last shot to save ALTNOY, the question is if it’s not too late, considering it lost it’s bullet weeks ago and is sliding fast on CHR. I don’t know how much of an impace an Idol performance can have at this point.

I hope no UK fans were going to those two shows especially for Archie.

For those asking about a new single–it’s not happening before next week. This first album is likely done in terms of singles because Jive may be releasing a second album for David this year. That’s what I’ve been hearing a lot. It’s the Jonas Brothers model of album releases–1 to 2 singles per album, 1 album per year.

So he won’t be premiering anything or promoting a single. What he will be doing is promoting himself. A lot of Idol watchers have the completely wrong impression of what David is capable of, and David himself has grown so much over a year’s time. My hope is that he doesn’t sing ALTNOY–there’s really no need to sing it now, the only thing it’ll do is get it to chart on the Hot 100. ALTNOY is a midtempo ballad and he stays at the mic stand for most of it usually. I’d rather him sing an uptempo like Touch My Hand–lots of crowd interaction with that one. Even Crush would be better since it’s a faster midtempo.

I suspect, though, that they’ll go with ALTNOY just because it’s the most recent single. He’ll do great on it; just wouldn’t be my choice. (And I don’t think they believe it’ll be resurrected on the radio; that wouldn’t be why he sings it) Originally David’s band was NOT going to be at his Idol performance (unsure as to why) but now they will be there (thankfully), so he doesn’t have to be backed by bandzilla.

With a new Jordin single, I hope this means my Hot AC station will stop playing One Step at a Time. That song gets on my last nerve. Otherwise, meh on a Jordin visit.

It will be good to see Archie again though. I’ve only heard Crush, which is a great song. Hopefully he has something similarly good coming as a next single.

This has been one of the best improvement this season, I know they invited Idols the last seasons too, but now it’s deliberate that they’re inviting every week a new one.

I agree that David does deserve a shot, but so didn’t Diana, who never got one and specifically Taylor who after all was the Season 5 winner. Viewership has gone down every year, and AI still hasn’t figured out why.

So excited to see David back on the AI stage! He has grown so much as a performer since last year.
The fact that his band will be with him makes me think he will do ALTNOY or TMH, but the fact that he will be performing live makes me wonder if he will sing TBWY with kara.
Do guests every perform two songs? Since he changed his date from top 3 to top 6 is it a possibility that he will be doing an upbeat track like TMH then a ballad like TBWY? TBWY would actually give AI alot of buzz since it would be the first time a judge performed with a past idol but I’m sure Jive wants him to do a youthful, pop track. Maybe this is a compromise? Here’s hoping.

Elliot and Melinda might still make it on. They do all these thing so last minute it seems, so you just never know.

But I do agree that I’m enjoying all these past idols’ return. It’s just nice to see everyone.

Do guests every perform two songs?

Fantasia got two songs during the S4 Top 9 results show (she sang ‘Truth Is’ and ‘I Believe’). But other than a few finales when some of the past winners have sung solos plus a duet or parts of group medleys, guest performers don’t usually get more than one song. Honestly I’m not sure Archie will get a plaque presentation either just because of time constraints. It would be nice if they gave him his platinum for ‘Crush,’ but I’m not counting on it especially if they also have a mentor next week that needs pimping in addition to the second guest performer. The performance alone should really pump-up album sales though, regardless of what he sings.

Crap, that place is friggin’ huge–18,500 capacity. Even with seats behind the stage closed off that’s got to be around 15,000. Do they really think David and Demi can sell that out? Especially since the Jonas Brothers are playing a week later in the same venue–that doesn’t bode well for parents who will likely take their child to either show, but not both. Ehhh… now I’m worried about JoBro competition since they’ll be hitting the same cities it seems.

I’d much rather see Melinda and somebody who hasn’t been on each season. I’d actually like to see Taylor Hicks on the show. I’d like to see Jason Castro or even Chris Daughtry on the show. I don’t actually want to see Elliott or Kellie again. I’m not a huge fan of any of them. I just think that some have been overpimped at the expense of others who are just as deserving.

I understand from a business perspective that the better choice was to cancel the two UK shows, and do AI, but that is also sort of crummy for the fans that bought tickets to see him. An obligation is an obligation. It is sort of like being asked out to the prom, and then someone “better” asks you out. You don’t cancel out on the first date. AI was a better gig, so they canceled the tour performances. I understand why they did it, but it doesn’t seem right.

This Kansas City area fan is excited to hear that David will at the Sprint Center in July (that place IS huge.) My daughters and I have the date marked and are deciding which friends to invite along. Demi’s portion of the concert will be a little fringe benefit or a small price to pay, depending on which daughter I ask. ;)

On the Idol appearance: It’ll be my first time watching this season, and I can’t wait. (I did watch a few other season 7 performances on the tube, of course. And if Jason performs, I’ll watch that one, too.) I have songs that I’d love to hear David A. sing, but I’ll be happy with whatever.

I am glad that David is going to appear on idol. I am a bit sad that it interferes with his UK commitment but I don’t mind a little idol pimpage. The concerts aren’t canceled–they’re McFly concerts. The show will go on with or without David. And, let’s be realistic here, David isn’t well known in the UK. American Idol isn’t all that popular over there–not like it is here. Yes, David has some fans in the UK, but I would estimate that 98% of the concert-goers for those two dates are going for McFly, not for David. And the other 2% are probably David fans that are also McFly fans who will at least be comforted by the fact that McFly is still doing their show.

Yes, it sucks that he’s canceling his opening spot for those two dates, especially for the fans he does have that will be going to those two shows, but I can understand it from a business standpoint. I really doubt David likes the idea of not doing those two shows–he probably hates it, although he would be openly cool about it because he’s so even-keeled. Last year OneRepublic canceled an entire concert to appear on the finale–it’s that important of an appearance. And my understanding is that it took awhile for them to decide on the date switch–it wasn’t a decision made lightly.

I’m thinking we’ll get ALTNOY, simply because it was the most recent single (regardless of whether it’s dead on the radio or not). If he sings that, there will be standard complaints from people who never liked him on Idol. ALTNOY is an angsty emotion-driven midtempo ballad. He really gets into it, which means he looks like he’s in emotional pain when he sings it. And he closes his eyes sometimes, too (I still don’t forgive you, Andrew Lloyd-Webber), because that’s what a lot of artists do during angsty emotion-driven songs. I hope he moves away from the mic stand on the song, which he sometimes does during ALTNOY. Other times he doesn’t. I guess it will depend on his mood.

Zero Gravity is aout of the question… it isn ´t even a single… WFM and SOT don ´t appear in every copy of the albun, so they both won ´t work to promove the album… I have a new found love for YEDL since the UTAH show… I never liked TMH… Barriers, YEDL or My Hands will be my three picks to choose one to sing in AI…

I find it very hard to believe that David Archuleta will cancel some of his shows in the UK to appear on American Idol. I think we better wait for a confirmation about this instead of speculating. Besides, he can pre-taped his appearance. David Cook’s appearance on idol was pre-taped; David Archuleta and other guests can do the same thing. I think we should wait for a confirmation before making any judgment or criticism. By the way, I can’t wait to see David Archuleta on TV again.

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t they have 3 musical guests last week? Frankie Avalon, Flo Rida, and Kellie Pickler? So, yeah, they could fit 3 musical guests moving forward at the results show.

Well, on Motown week they had Ruben, Stevie Wonder, and the duet with Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone. They can fit a lot of people onto a results show if they want–actual results take, like, 5 minutes.

David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s appearance on idol was pre-taped; David Archuleta and other guests can do the same thing.

David A. can’t pretape this week. Technically I guess he could today, but there’s no indication he’s doing that (I think he’s still in Utah today). He’ll be at an event in another state tomorrow where people spent a lot of money to specifically see him, not a British pop band, so it would be really bad form to cancel that to pretape. Next week, he can pretape on Tuesday after the performance show, but given the timing he would still have to miss those two concerts.

You’re correct it’s not officially confirmed, but I’ve heard this from a variety of different sources.

BTW, I guess we don’t know who the other act next week will be??

The Jonas Brothers (like a lot of other artists) released 3 singles from their last album: Burnin Up, LoveBug and Tonight. Their album before that also had 3 singles released, so not sure what model you are referring to. They have released albums pretty quickly, but they have made use of the singles on the album.

Tonight wasn’t from their last album–it was a live single released off of their JoBros 3D Concert Experience movie soundtrack. Soundtracks are whole different animals. If David does a Christmas album he may get a Christmas single–doesn’t mean it counts as a single off his studio album. Besides, it did nada on CHR (I’m not even sure it was released there)–it was probably played on Radio Disney, though. They got 2 singles off of their last album–Burnin’ Up which did very well, and Lovebug (hideous song, IMO) which reached the 30s on CHR, I believe.

The album before that charted 2 singles–SOS and When You Look Me In the Eyes. If they got a third single off that album, nobody cared, or it was never actually released for pop radio airplay. The JoBros chart songs in the Hot 100 due to sales sometimes, even non-singles.

The album before that had zero singles.

Geez – hoping AI doesn’t have him do a ballad and lets him perform live. He excels with a live crowd and has those soulfoul pop chops he needs to show off!

It’s funny–I was in the same creepy hallway last month (or a very, very similar one in the same airport), and I had no clue if I was going in the right direction. There was nobody down there and I figured security would come and snatch me. The beeping is because there’s this huge door that slams shut, cutting off one terminal from another, in case of emergency. I guess if the beeping gets faster or whatever you know it’s about to slam. When David looks back, he’s looking at that door.

He talks about girls with cameras mobbing him after he got off his 16-hour flight (they were, of course “nice” lol). So I guess he used the underground route to get from the international terminal to baggage claim.

It was on their last album, but that’s not the version they released. They released a live version along with the live performance from the movie as a video. It was used to promote the movie. I suppose it could have a correlative effect on the album since the studio is on there, but it’s technically a single from the soundtrack.

Also, as I said, I’m not altogether sure it was released anywhere but Radio Disney. I never saw an add date for it, and it’s certainly not charting on CHR. David could release just to Radio Disney if Jive chose to do that–RD would play it. I don’t think it’s all that important at this point though just to release something to RD. ALTNOY is still top 5 there.
