Some peeps in the headlines thread mentioned that the website ratethemusic.com was doing a David Archuleta music survey.

Rate the music asks music fans to take music surveys, and apparently the results help people who need to know these things–like radio station program directors for instance– which songs by a particular artist have the potential to catch on with the public.

I just happen to have an account, so   I took the David Archuleta survey.   I was asked to rate two songs, which I immediately yoinked for your listening pleasure.   I’ve got them for you here!   The clips run about 1:30:

    Touch My Hands

Both songs are similar to “Crush” only not as catchy.   Both are very much in the pop-lite vein Jordin Sparks has been mining very successfully this past year.

I’m assuming there are better songs that will make the album’s final cut…

Peeps!   What’s your verdict?

  • sidewalk

Like them both, LOVE Touch My Hands. David supposedly wrote the song as well. It totally is about tour!!! I bet only one will make it on the album.
Check out the lyrics to both:
    TOUCH MY HANDS:
    Written By David Archuleta (rumored)
    Saw you from the distance
    Saw you from the stage
Something about the look in your eyes
    Something ’bout your beautiful face
    In a sea of people
    There was only you
I never knew what this song was about
    But suddenly now I do

Tryin’ to reach out to you
    Touch my hand
Reach out as far as you can
Only me, only you and the band
Try to reach out to you
    Touch my hands
    Can’t let the music stop
    Can’t let this feelin’ end
Cause If I do it’ll all be over
    I’ll never see you again
    Can’t let the music stop
    Until I touch your hand
Cause if I do it’ll all be over
I’ll never get the chance again
    Never get the chance again

(I totally think this song is about tour!! Stand By Me, anyone?!?)

    MY HANDS:
Written by Bey Zukhan, James Frauntleroy, Eman Kiriakou (according to ascap website)
    Ohhh
Accidentally on purpose I dropped my watch behind the tire
Put my alarm clock inside the fireplace, yeah
I put the parental control on,
On the news and the weather channel
I’m outside in my robe, I’m looking for you, oh
    If everything is lies
    Then listen for your heart
To lead me right to you, yeah
I’ve tried every way I can

But it’s harder to hold on to your hands
    In the hands of time
I need a hand girl, trying hold on
Losing strength in these hands of mine
    I need you here
    Trying to hold on
    Standing here, open hands
I know I can’t do this alone, hold on, hold on, baby hold on
    To my hands
Can you hold on to my hands
    Don’t let go

  • jpfan

Very much in Jordin Sparks mode. I think Touch My Hand will be perfect for David’s younger fans. I see that it’s not written by him just sounds like it could be. Very smart, Jive. It’s very poppish but fun stuff.

Looks like Archie will be mining the “light” stuff and Cook will be going the “darker” route.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Not bad. I think I like the second one better.

Does he have a hand fetish or something? :)

  • GEEK4VOCAB

I’m confused. Why would they name one song “My Hands” and another “Touch My Hands”… isn’t that going to confuse people?

  • sidewalk

No, David wrote the longer titled one. “Touch My Hands”
Eman & Co. wrote just “My Hands”

  • E

omg I love them both for different reasons! but since I am in my 20s I like My Hands better, though I really like Touch My Hands chorus, overall I like My Hands better. Jive you are in conundrum I think lol. I’ll vote for My hands, can’t have too Crush like songs on the album.

haha I bet David wrote the song during tour.

Is this common for recording label? this kind of survey? Very much looking forward to the album now.

  • jpfan

Okay, all those hand titles are confusing me. Touch my Hand sounds like Archie wrote it although MJ’s post says different.

  • soundscene

Not getting the Jordin vibe on either–unless it’s because they’re both pop songs and Jordin is pop?

MJ–the songwriters you list are for “My Hands” (that’s up on ASCAP). No songwriter(s) listed for “Touch My Hands” but the rumor is that David at least co-wrote it. No confirmation on that, though.

I actually think both are really catchy–and that the chorus of each may even be catchier than Crush. “My Hands” has funky lyrics and this strange, but cool, pacing to it. “Touch My Hands” has a great chorus, lovely falsetto and actually shows off David’s lower register. TMH is probably a perfect live song (for obvious lyrical reasons).

I prefer less production on David’s voice, but that’s just not how pop songs are these days. We’ll have to wait for an actual ballad for that to happen.

  • soundscene

Looks like Archie will be mining the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“lightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ stuff and Cook will be going the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“darkerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ route.

Except if “Ruined Me” makes Archie’s album–heart-wrenching break up song.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’the songwriters you list are for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My Handsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s up on ASCAP). No songwriter(s) listed for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Touch My Handsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but the rumor is that David at least co-wrote it. No confirmation on that, though.

I changed it. I mistakenly put it next to the wrong track. Songs about hands…it’s so confusing! :) .

Not getting the Jordin vibe on eitherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’unless ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s because theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re both pop songs and Jordin is pop?

I immediately thought of Jordin. It must be those hand claps. All three songs have a very similar sound, but “Crush” is the best of the lot imo. Then I’d go with “Touch My Hands”. “My Hands” doesn’t do very much for me.

  • clee1107

I keep listening both of songs. Hmm…It’s really hard to decide…”Touch my hands” is definitely for girls ( can I be one of them? haha…jk…) I can imagine every girls are thinking of the AI tour in summer. Somebody said, this song is written by David. If so, he’s a definitely much better song writer than what I thought. If not, smart Jive. haha…”My hands” is a cool song. I thought of Jesse McCartney. Well..Am I alone? whatever…I think “My hands” is more radio-friendly song. I’m looking forward to hear his new album. Much better than I expect. so far..so good…

  • cruzceleste

I agree Soundscene, TMH is a better song todo during a concert, but for me the begining if the song is really rusty, not that all perfect… I liked My Hands I think I like it even better than Crush…I don ´t know can ´t we have both pretty please Jive…

  • CathyMK

Thanks for putting these up, MJ.

My 12 year old and I both like My Hands more- seems more substantial somehow. The other one is good too, but it reminded us of Crush (which we like and my daughter bought), just like someone already said. I wonder which direction Jive will go in?

So, the theme of the album is either love songs, or hands, or love songs about hands. LOL

  • sidewalk

    Except if à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ruined Meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ makes Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s albumà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’heart-wrenching break up song.

Love that one. Really hope it does.

  • Tatiana

I prefer “touch my hands.” it has such an innocent sound and the lyric sounds just like something David would write, but with a sophisticated beat. I also love the melody and the piano in it – it gives it a sound that is consistent with “Crush”. I think he wrote this one too.

I don’t like “My Hands” as much cuz I just can’t picture Archie turning on the Weather Channel in his bathrobe. Just doesn’t sound like him!

Are these options for his next single? Cuz I kinda hoped the next single would be a ballad :\ . I love “Touch my Hands” but not sure it would be a radio hit. We need a big ballad David!

  • abbysee

I must say I like them both for different reasons. I’ve already done the music video for Touch My Hands in my head, lol! I also can hear it on my top 40 station, both z100 and KTU would play the hell out of this.

I like My Hands because I think the vocals are better. I think if you add that heart wrenching break up song soundscene mentioned all factions will be happy. Now if he can include that inspirational song that he loves and does so well I think the word Ka-ching comes to mind.

So he is a pop star after all huh?

  • frogcooke

Well Cathy.. he does have nice hands….. lol

  • E

Actually to my ear, David’s voice doesnt sound as processed as on Crush in this 2 songs.

What’s with the “my hands” thing?

  • Duke

I think DA is my fav contestant EVER!
    thanks MJ!

  • wordnerdarchie

I like “Touch My Hands” better. I’m going to date myself and use a phrase from Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand”. “Touch My Hands” has a beat you can dance to. I think it just has more potential.

I’m disappointed with “My Hands” – I didn’t like it all. I thought it was boring, nothing seemed to jump out and grab me. Hopefully there will be some kind of catchy hook later in the song to help it out. But you can’t expect every song to be good. At least he has “Crush”.

  • soundscene

Actually to my ear, Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice doesnt sound as processed as on Crush in this 2 songs.

I do agree with you here. You can still hear how amazing his voice is on these songs (and there was a producer’s blog–I think it was from an Eman session) that said David didn’t need any autotune). 99% of pop songs are processed just as much as these two. I guess it’s just because I love David’s live voice so much that it’s weird to hear it overlayed. But that’s what happens when you record mid-tempo pop songs.

  • ptslittlecomment

They must have had a dare in the studio as to who could write the better song about hands (LOL). I like the second song much better. While I like Archie, I am not in his primary fanbase. However, I would be more open to repeat listenings of the second as I find it interesting both lyrically and melodically. The first sounds a little too similiar to “Crush”

  • May

“Touch My Hands” has a nice distinct melody. I like it! I’m less thrilled with “My hands” though…I am catching a Jordin vibe with this one.

Actually to my ear, Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice doesnt sound as processed as on Crush in this 2 songs.

I totally agree. I can easily tell that Archie is singing these songs and I found it a lot harder with Crush.

  • Tatiana

TMH is a better song todo during a concert, but for me the begining if the song is really rusty, not that all perfectà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I agree with this, even though I prefer this one…do you think if TMH gets a better score they may re-record the beginning part?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I hope he has something with just him, a piano, and maybe some soft percussion. That would be more powerful than anything.

  • cruzceleste

^^Thats an interesting Idea, maybe is they soft a little the the way the three first lines and the music are played it will be actually a great song… I hope Jive is lurking in here…Hey Jive hear us out…

  • JudyOhio

I like “Touch My Hands.” Gut feeling, lol.

  • Ladybug

I like both very much! Yeah, D.A.! If this is representational of his album, I will most certainly buy it.

I think I like “My Hands” a bit better.

  • mac

I don’t like My Hands at all, but I do like Touch My Hand. It has a very catchy chorus. I don’t think either of them are any where near as good as Crush though. I have to agree with some posters that David seems to be a male version of Jordin. Just something about their songs seem very similar, but maybe that is what Jive is going for.

  • sabby_rina

WOW! I love them both! “My hands” is very catchy.

  • sidewalk

It’s now being reported at IDF that BOTH songs WILL be on the album, and that the entire album could leak as early as the 30th…I hope it doesn’t!

  • Omigoshashley3

I was so excited to listen to these clips! I guess David has a thing for hands, lol. Anyway,I much prefer My Hands because I just think the vocals are better and it has a prettier melody. In the first one he sounds a little flat at the beginning and I’m a HUGE fan of the kid. My vote goes to My Hands. :)

  • soundscene

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s now being reported at IDF that BOTH songs WILL be on the album, and that the entire album could leak as early as the 30thà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I hope it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t!

When they say “leak” it’ll be an official leak–streaming at MTV or VH1 or AOL or Yahoo. Just like they did with Jennifer Hudson’s album. It’s promotion and generally doesn’t hurt album sales.

  • JudyOhio

LEAK AS EARLY AS THE 30TH???? :jittery_tb:

    :nono_tb:

(my superego just told me I’m too old to get excited about this stuff)

    :blush_tb:

  • Virgii5

My vote goes to MY HANDS. This can definitely be on the radio.. soundscene has it right, it has something cool and funky about it. It sounds familiar, yet very different at the same time… yet very catchy and radio ramiliar. It can definitely be as big as Crush!!!

Touch my hands on the other hand, as much as I like it too, may not do too well on radio. It’s good but it needs one more notch to it for it to make it, just my opinion. I could be totally wrong and it might be a number one hit, but from the get go it’s not catchy enough for me.

  • Virgii5

Ooh, when I hear leak, I hear “this album is so awesome the public must hear it in advance.” I’m excited about that!!!

  • PCdoctor

I liked them both for differant reasons.

If I see songs titled “My Feet”or “Touch My Feet”, I’m not buying the album.

  • Virgii5

LOL PCdoctor.. you had me laughing on your last comment.

  • tufu11

at first, i think i saw touch my body instead of touch my hands, oh well :eek_wp

  • shell29

I like Touch My Hand a bit more after a couple of listens, and My Hands sounds sort of like a Crush/With You hybrid. Not really bowled over by either song. Decent album filler, but I wouldn’t release either one as singles. The first one is too similar to Crush. I’m hoping there will be at least one track with a bit more of an R&B flavor to it and less on the fluffy pop side.

ETA: Slight change: I wouldn’t release either one as the next single. Maybe My Hands somewhere down the line, but not right on the heels of Crush because they sound too similar IMO. The other song=album filler.

  • Mariam94

I like both songs in a different way, but i think “My Hands” is more radio friendly. I’m truely praying “Ruin Me” will be on the album though. From all the pop stuff I’m suspecting will be most of the album, it would be nice to hear a heart wretching love ballad :wink_wp:

  • hypertwink

TMH sounds like the better song, although I was expecting better from both. I do agree that it does sound a bit Jordin-y but Jordin built her career around such songs so I think Jive is doing great for the younger David. And also, DA would probably be happy being compared to her since she’s his fave idol, right?

  • sue

I agree with MJ, “Crush” is better. These two songs are just ok but if I could hear the whole song I would have a different opinion maybe? I still think the songs and Archie’s voice is too over processed. I just want to hear Archie and his pure beautiful vocals and maybe just some classical instruments or a piano like when he sang “And So It Goes”. His voice is amazing enough on it’s own. I didn’t even recognize Archie’s voice on the second song. I hope the album has more variety because I am not too keen on it sounding all popish and like Jordin’s cd even though Jordin’s singles/cd is doing great. I just expected something different from Archie. I will still be buying Archie’s album of course, lol.

  • cruzceleste

Little sister(13) saids she likes My Hands better… as she saids just because…

  • Virgii5

Mariam94, me too.. I am waiting to hear a heart-wretching ballad from Archie.. and Ruined Me would be a great addition to his album!!!!

  • beesims

Count me in as a convert to the sweet pop sugar that is Archie. I wasn’t a fan of his during the season because of the relentless pimping and his proclivity for over earnest message ballads. I thought the only place for him was as a mini Groban but I think “Crush” has proven that he is totally suited to tween pop. He has an amazing set of pipes and I think that when he outgrows the geeky, gushy (haha) awkwardness, he will grow into a great pop song stylist. This material is what it is–bubblegum pop and whoever is behind these choices for his first album is making a smart marketing decision. I think he has the potential to morph and evolve and move to more adult ballads a la Groban when the time is right. In the meantime, “Crush ” is my current guilty pleasure.

  • leome

I’m surprised they’re having two songs that have almost the same title. But then again, the songs do sound almost the same too.
I’m not a fan of Crush, but at least it’s catchy, which is good cause it makes it less boring, and these are not that much I think these two are very Moffats (anyone remembers them?) in a get bored after 30 seconds mode.
Anyway, I think it can work for the younger audience and it fits the Disney demographic.

Oh, and pretty cool they shared this. Eh!

  • gerreb

I actually really like both of these songs! I think they are both very catchy…i can’t decide which one I like better…I think I like TMH better…i think it takes longer to get going than the other one, but once that piano comes in, it’s got me hooked!
And I think the beginning of “My Hands” sounds like Chris Brown’s “With You”….LOL

  • Aladdin88

It’s official, David Archuleta has the best male falsetto evah! To think he never dared sing using it before Mariah Carey told him it was okay to makes me chuckle. Seriously though, I love the chorus of Touch My Hand. Then again, I like the verses of My Hands better than TMH. Eh, I can’t really pick which one is my favorite. I do, however, agree with MJ that they both aren’t as catchy as Crush is.

And if Archie wrote TMH, then I have to say I’m impressed. It’s pretty dang good for a 17 year-old kid, even if I don’t think it’ll be a huge radio hit.

  • yaminacookie

I am pleasantly surprised – really like them both – especially My Hands. Tested them both on my 11 year old future Mrs. Archuleta – she agrees with me.

  • JudyOhio

I’ve had “Ruined Me” bookmarked for a few months now, and it’s very easy to imagine Archie singing it. I really love that song, and hope he has it on his album. With just a few lyric changes, he could really own it.

  • sue

Ok after listening to the songs again, I changed my mind, lol. I love TMH! It is actually pretty catchy after a second listen. I like it better that MH. So yeah, Archie songs beautiful and it would be great for the tour since he will be on that Jingle Jam tour thingy soon. Jive is so smart with picking songs and promoting Archie to the right audience. I guess I am in the older fan category and I am looking forward to some really heart wrenching ballads. LOL…

  • sma11ie

Hmm, kinda torn. I like My Hands because it’s catchier and fun to listen to, like Crush, and Touch My Hands is at first listen seemed a tad… blah? But then again, My Hands is so similar to Crush (IMO), that it’s really nice to hear DA do something different with Touch My Hands, which shows his voice better. Touch My Hands also sounds less processed to me. I wouldn’t discount either as potential singles, since I thought One Step At a Time was a pretty mediocre song and look at it now! But overall, I’d still like to see some other, more Sara Barielles/John Mayer types of songs on Archie’s album.

  • E

lol I guess my taste is not mainstream. My hands melody caught me right from the start. I only paid attention to the lyrics later on. As for TMH, I only got into the song in the chorus. I liked them both first listen, unlike Crush which took me several. No wonder I am not so much into top 40 these days. My unprofessional opinion though, is that TMH will do better, and I do think they both will do well. As for the beginning part of TMH, I like it the way it is, I think it’s meant to sound like that so people find it easier to sing along lol. Both actually showed his better vocals, love the falsetto in TMH. I like both better than Crush.

Jive if you are lurking, I want “ruined me” on the album!

  • CRB

    Poor kid, those both suck.

    My Hands

Ooooo ahhhh oooo ahhhhh oooo ahhhh

Accidentally (on purpose) I dropped my watch behind the tire.

And my alarm clock inside the fireplace.

Yeah, and I put the remote control on

On the news and weather channel-ahh

I’m outside in my robe and I”m looking for you.

Did I actually hear those correctly? Because that reads like Mr. Magoo goes out in search of the morning paper to me… simply dreadful, forced lyrics. On the plus side, it sounds pretty good, which may be enough.

The second one, Touch My Hands, is pure retro crap. Archie needs to borrow that ridiculous fake British accent from Joshua Lemming and sing in that voice, because that is the kind of feel that song has.

I think Crush is much, much better than both of those songs, at least it has that catchy chorus.

  • frogcooke

actually crb that one(quoted one) is ‘my hands’ not ‘touch my hands’ lol

  • mac

Jive if you are lurking, I want à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ruined meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on the album!

What is “ruined me”? Does someone have the link to that song?

  • sidewalk

“Ruined Me” is a song originally recorded by JC Chasez, that David has recorded and might be on his album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKlYIuV9B9M

  • cruzceleste

link to ruined me by JC Chasez:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKlYIuV9B9M

    ETA:
Sidewalk beat me to post it… you are fast lol

  • CRB

Hope you’re right frogcooke, I edited it. :lol_ee:

That “Ruined Me” sounds like it has David Archuleta written all over it. Sounds like a the kind of stuff he should be singing.

  • Virgii5

Sidewalk, did David really already record Ruined Me?!

I read on one of the comments on that song a few weeks ago that JC said he didn’t let him record it, but that he’d write songs for David. So what’s the true story? Because I gave up hope that Ruined Me would be on his album, now I’m getting excited again!

  • mac

Virgii5, Ruined Me is still listed in ASCAP as a song for David to record

  • E

and thanks MJ for bringing over the clips!

    Woo, thanks cruzceleste!!!

Nah, JC was totally cool with David recording it. At least in both interviews he did about it that was what he said. I don’t even think JC’s version of Ruined Me was officially released because of problems with the label/album.

  • bigepaz

MJ – thank you so much for the samples!

I’ve listened to both only once as I write this and so far, “My Hands” is just okay and will probably grow on me.

But I LOVE “Touch My Hands”. At first I thought the low key sounded kind of weird, but then it picked up and I wanted to hear the rest. Yes!

I think Archie has great taste in music for us Pop Music aficionados :)

  • Aladdin88

I don’t get the impression that these two songs are the best the album has to offer. I suspect there are better songs we just haven’t heard yet. Wasn’t David recording with Midi Mafia because neither of these songs sound like they’re produced by them? I’m sure that MH was an Eman-produced song since he helped write it, but TMH sounds very Eman to me as well. Perhaps this survey is merely to see if either of these (what I would consider to be filler) songs could potentially be singles.

  • LK08

I like them both. I think “My Hands” is more radio friendly. I find it impossible not to move your body when you listen to it.

I can see “Touch My Hands” as a tour song. Does anyone else feel a beatles vibe on this? I want to hear his voice a little more in the chorus. Since I have teens and young adult kids, I can really see this being played at a dance with all of the kids clapping their hands over their heads. I also see them jumping up and down to this when the band comes in. I was just at a college dance and this is what the kids were doing. This is really growing on me.

I definitely want “ruined me” to be on the album.

  • tinawina

Not feeling the first one. The lyrics are clunky, and it sounds too much like Crush. It’s not bad per se, but it seems more like an album track to me.

The second one is better. I think it will be fine once it’s all mixed down. Sounds like it needs a little polishing, but with a good video it could do well.

    Go Archie!

  • shell29

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get the impression that these two songs are the best the album has to offer. I suspect there are better songs we just havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t heard yet.

I tend to believe that as well. We’ll see soon enough.

That Touch My Hands song is growing on me a little bit. It’s just OK for me, but it’ll be a big hit with all of Archie’s fangirls.

  • JudyOhio

Just listened again, and it sounds like he is saying “touch my hand” (singular) throughout the song and not “touch my hands” (plural). ???

  • IGetCranked

I went to youtube and listened to My Hands while reading the lyrics and I got a better feel for the song. It’s really funky and kinda amazing when you really hear it instead of trying to guess the words.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlDaBXbD1Zk

  • archie1

I must say I like them both. I think one of them will be radio friendly. I know in his album he will have some ballads for the fans that like his ballads. These songs will be great for the younger crowd which is what they are aiming for. Good start. I think his album will be great. I am looking forward to it.

  • clee1107

After school, I came back… wow..so many comments…I looked at whole comments. Some ppl like “Touch my hands”, others like “My hands”. Hmm…This is one of the toughest questions to me. I donno yet..I love both of them. I put two songs to my iPod. I played both of them in my car. (Radio simulation..haha..) Both are great. Ahh..too difficult…

  • redridinghood

I really like Touch My Hands. I think it’s catchy and I liked it on my first listen, unlike Crush. Probably because it’s less processed. I think the chorus needs a bit more something though that will make people start to dance or something.

  • abbysee

I am just jazzed, this is just incredible. Mj’s is jumping the news of the Davids. I keep listening and I think they are both good solid songs. I like the direction it’s taking, and I think so far so good.

  • gerreb

It seems like about half like “my hands” and half like “touch my hand”….hmmm….i think “my hands” is more radio friendly but “touch my hand” is cool and different, i can’t decide!! I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album! :)

  • curlyQ23

After I got over the initial excitement of new DA material, I tried to listen objectively and I really, really like My Hands. WAY more than Touch My Hands. So much more that I really hope Touch My Hands is not on the album. Not because it’s bad but because it’s kind of lame to have two songs with almost the exact same title on the same album.

Really, the only way to do it in a semi not-lame way would be to have the two tracks back-to-back and have some sort of bridge between the two. The best example I can come up with is the way Usher would sometimes tie his tracks together.

  • idolfan86

the songs are pretty good. not great but good. i like the vibe of touch my hands. but i can barely understand anything he’s saying in my hands.

i like them but i hope there is better material on the cd.

Exactly how I feel. I hope Jive read your comment lol, and isn’t Usher on Jive? Maybe they will do tha LOL I can dream, cause I really like them both.

  • cruzceleste

I ´m joined everyone that hopes that his album has better songs, not that this two are all that bad (I`ll listen to this two than listen to womanizer or Disturbia), but I will love to listen to something that has only piano and David voice, like a Sara Bareilles song… of the two after giving multiple listen to both I`ll much raether listen to My Hands while driving my car, I keep pressing replay… is has good melody and I love Davids voice in it…If David wrote Touch My Hand, is not bad but there are parts that sound a little off for me… there is a rumor in IDF that David ´s album will include more than 1 bonus single so maybe TMH and angels will made the cut…

So Jive don ´t screw up, David is talented, if he doesn ´t become a star I ´m going after you…lol

  • IGetCranked

I was orginally like WTH with the beginning lyrics of My Hands but read them..

Accidentally on purpose I dropped my watch behind the tire
Threw my alarm clock inside the fireplace

He’s trying to stop time or lose track of time. The song makes more sense now. I wish I had the other verse so that I could complete the story.

  • JudyOhio

Cruzceleste – Now that you reminded me of “Angels”, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see “Angels” as a bonus tract.

  • Jabkmc

    IGetCranked – Here you go.

    My Hands

Accidentally on purpose I dropped my watch behind the tire
Threw my alarm clock inside the fireplace
Yeah, and I put the parental control on, on the news and the weather channel
Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m outside in my robe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m looking for you, oh

If everythingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d stop Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d listen for your heart to lead me right to you, yeah
I tried every way I can

But ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s harder to hold on to your hands than the hands of time
    I need a hand girl, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m tryinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ to hold on.
Losing strength in these hands of mine
I need you here, I’m trying to hold on
    Standing here open hands
    And I know I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t do this alone
    Hold on, oh hold on
Baby hold on (to my hands)
Hold on to my hands (donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t let go of my hands)
Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t let go (clip end)

  • IGetCranked

Thank you very much Jabkmc. :) What I am greedily wanting though is the second verse after the chorus.. the other half of the song! I guess I’ll have to wait a few more weeks for that. LOL

Reading again, the song is so clever about stopping time w/o being chliche. Love it!

  • Jabkmc

Ah! Gotcha. I totally misread your post. LOL! Oooops….

Yeah, Guess we’ll have to wait. Ack!

ETA: The part about outside in his robe kinda sounds like he’s dreaming (you know how surreal those are) about stopping time in order to get her back or stop her from leaving. Hmmmm..

  • hardkandy

I like the songs. Especially “My Hands.”

  • noctem seizure

I actually don’t think he sounds very good singing either song, and I never thought that would be said of someone who is such a great vocalist as Archie. I’m assuming that’s because they are very rough cuts, and he probably recorded them in one take.

As for the songs themselves, they both would fit in with the direction his album seems to be going. However, the titles are very similar, so if they both make the cut, one of them should be renamed.

  • khomphuong

Hope David Archuleta will put at least 2 ballad songs on his album. i like Touch my hands.

  • maggiemay

average :( i wouldn t even put those on the album tbh. crush is SO much better

  • seattle

I agree, soundscene. And I concur with the view that there is somewhat less obscuring of his natural voice with both of these songs, especially TMH. I like both. The quirky lyrics of MH might take a few listens to get into, but it’s got a nice melody and some real substance. Not sure it’s perfect for the radio, but a really nice album track. And even if it is radio worthy, I wouldn’t put it out until like a 4th or 5th single because it does bear a strong resemblance in tempo and arrangement to Crush. I think TMH would make a great single — the beat is very radio friendly, and the melody and lyrics are easily accessible, very sing-alongable, and yet doesn’t sound like anything else out there right now. Unique sounds get noticed and can become big hits, as long as they aren’t too weird (but see MIA’s Paper Planes). I love the way the piano builds into the chorus on TMH. And that falsetto . . . bellisimo!!!

  • WestiesRule

Not an Archuleta fan (per se). Disliked both songs and the 1st is awful. I don’t write music but I bet I could come up with better lyrics than those that include TV controls and the weather channel! They both sound the same to me. I’m not sure what this kids niche is but I’m sure he’ll have some music or Disney career.

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

    hope they are rough cuts

Yeah, it takes a few listen to get into the lyrics, but I think they are good, probably too good for the disney crowd. If he ends up having a disney career, well at least he’ll be a rich man lol. and honestly, David doesn’t need to find a nitch yet. He has years to find it.

  • MJack

Really liked “My hands”, I think it may become pretty popular. Don’t mind the second one. Think this Pop/Jordin route is proper one for him.
And his voice sounds MUCH more natural in these two than in “Crush”.

  • cheese

Hmm, the first one sounded like a mess. The second one was easy on the ears and much better I think. It kind of reminded me of Blake Lewis and Hilary Duff at the same time. I’m not completely sold on DA as a pure pop singer – his voice is almost too…. heavy. I’m also not a fan of male pop singers in general, I guess.

  • cruzceleste

I oficialy have listen to My Hands over a 100 times…lol love it, and I love the lyrics…

The first one reminded me of “Crush”. My fingers are crossed that the entire album has better material. Hopefully, his next single is an upbeat ballad. It will do him a world of good.

I find it hard to believe that with an instrument like Archie’s, they can only find this watered-down pop. There’s more to him than that.

  • BootStar

I love Archie, but the lyrics to that first song are all kinds of bad. I like the lyrics to the second one better, but I don’t care for the droning nature of the song. I haven’t personally bought “Crush” yet because I plan to buy the full album for my younger son, but I think it’s a nice catchy song. Nonetheless, I really look forward to the day Archie can make Music That Matters (To Him). I know the majority opinion was that the “message songs” he sang on AI were all kinds of yuck, but I actually much preferred them to this fluff. But then again I like preachy musicians. I’m not sure when voicing heartfelt sentiment in a song about something besides romance became a bad thing, but apparently it is. It’s a shame because some of the greatest music ever written (Dylan, Lennon, Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”) was serious social commentary.

Again, I get why DA has to go the teeny-bopper route–it’s the Archie equivalent of DC having to look like a badass rocker dude to attract his target market, but it makes me kinda sad for Archie. I don’t think this kind of thing bothers Cook the way it would Archie. Oh, well. Archie is a smart kid, and one of his heroes is Sara Bareilles, correct? If you’re not familiar with the “story” behind her hit “Love Song,” essentially she wrote it to shut up TPTB, who wanted her to record something more radio-friendly. I almost wrote her off because the song is so nothing, but she’s a fantastic musician. Love her song, “Gravity.” That’s the kind of music I’d love to hear Archie sing, actually. Not preachy at all, just gut-wrenching and poignant.

  • Davidx2

After giving both songs a quick listen last night (why does all the fun stuff happen before I go to bed?? Too hard to get up this morning :o hh_ee:), I wasn’t too impressed with either song. Neither of them sounded like David; the lyrics to the first song make no sense (I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that :hmm1_ee: ); compared to “Crush” (which I love) neither of them would make a good single IMO. If I had to choose one, it would be the second one. I checked out “Ruined Me” and liked it much better for Archie.

This has me a bit worried about DA’s album. :sad_wp: Hoping that there will be better material yet to come.

  • ggdoorsfan

No worries bout the album at all… these were just snippets, and we have no way yet of knowing if one or the other are included… we will have to listen to the album as a whole… and he did say there would be a variety of things on it… just sit tight and wait for 11/11… I have the feeling we all will be very pleasantly surprised!

  • IGetCranked

Neither of them sounded like David; the lyrics to the first song make no sense

But it does! He is saying that he is trying to stop time and hold on to the person he loves.

Jabkmc posted the lyrics.. you should read them! Reading the lyrics while listening to the song totally clicks it.

I think this song is all kinds of cool but I can see that the general public while listening in their car may not try to figure out the lyrics.

  • jpfan

They’re not great songs but they’re decent pop tunes. I think MH is the better of the two upon relisten. Amazon has a list 30 songs that Archie likes and it’s a pretty interesting, eclective list with alot of great 60s and 70s artists on it. He has a much better knowledge of music history than you’d expect. I’m hoping for a nice balance of songs but I’m pretty happy that Jive has found a sound for Archie that should keep him on the charts for awhile.

  • augiedog

The first song does sound similar to but not a good as Crush, which I love. The second song is very Archie. I really could see him writing it. He seems to draw from experiences and “Touch My Hand” seems so much like his tour experience. He is also very concrete, meaning he tells it like he sees it. So, I could really see him writing that song. Now I am going to say something that may upset some, but I do not mean it to be negative. Touch My Hand sounds very much like a Miley Cyrus type of song to me. Think 7 Things, but not so frenetic. He did say he wanted a Miley touch to his album, right?

  • ozarka

There have been rumors circulating that “Touch My Hand” was written by David. However, according to FansOfDavid.com

It was confirmed from a reliable source last night that David did NOT write Touch My Hands.

  • Lisa

I don’t care for either of these songs at all. Just not anything I would listen to or buy. The lyrics……ummm…. they are along the lines of *Crush* and I am a bit too old for that. I know for every person like me there are two that are not so no worries! Please don’t fireant me, I’m just being honest.

I really hoped he would be doing something along the lines of *Angels*. I have hope there is something along the lines of Angel’s for me on his cd! I would even settle for something like *Imagine*. To me those are the types of things he does sooooo beautifully!

    Yeah. Those can be moving.

I’ll probably end up buying them by the singles, rather than the entire album.

  • gelfling

What is happening with Archie’s promo? His album comes out a week earlier than DC’s and aside from Crush on the radio what else is he getting? DC is getting the plum exposure, SNL, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly etc. but is DA getting anything good?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I don’t know….DC’s been sitting pretty quietly until recently.

They’ve got two different groups handling them, so I’m sure Archie’s camp has something up its sleeve. After all, he’s still got a month to go….

They need to get him so public appearances or something, like…Leno or Letterman.

  • Virgii5

David Archuleta IS going to be on Leno. He also has Today Show and the Thanksgiving Parade, and an appearance on VH1. There is rumor he is going to be on a couple other shows but I’m not allowed to tell :) .

Archie has several promo appearances coming up:
    11/7 – Leno
11/11 (Album release day) – The Today Show
11/15 – Vh1 (Crush MV is currently #1 on the MV countdown…hopefully it still will be then!)

The difference between them and the versions used on youtube are pretty astonishing. The first time I heard them I was really impressed at some of the things he was doing with his voice.

All right I did seek out the HQ versions. On TMH, there’s no other way to say it than he’s out of key on the verse. And that is an extreme rarity for Archie. I’ll chalk it up to the fact that they probably handed him the song one day, had him rehearse it a couple times, and then said “Ok, now step up and sing into this mic while we press “record”….

He does sound a lot better in HQ on MH, although the harmonizing part is still rough on the ears. Either his backup singer in the studio from that day can’t sing or if he’s singing both parts, then it’s a very poor blend by the sound engineers.

On a positive note, both songs are ear-pleasing enough. I actually like that neither one is as sing-songy as Crush.

  • E

hmm noctem: My ear say the opposite. We are being extremely nit picky here. On MH, Archie sounds tired, hence the very very very tiny off, something you only notice if you are determined to be nit picky, but that actually added more emotion to the song. And, if you are an Archie fan, you’d know that it is Archie himself doing the backgroun vocals. I suspect that he is doing that for all the songs he has recorded. I’d not be surprised if he did it in one cut. I heard that on AI, he recorded most of the studio recordings in one take, and early in the morning.

I think he was pitch perfect on TMH, and he has the loveliest falsetto.

Jive knows what they are doing.

  • LK08

I am highly trained in music (in the more snobby forms), and I have listened carefully to TMH to hear something out of tune. I am just not hearing it. The bending of the pitch at the ends of the phrases is intentional I am sure.

  • tigervixxxen

I’m generally not a fan of this genre but I really liked Touch My Hands better than My Hands. Its not as cluttered and produced as the preceding one, I like the simpler beat and it highlights Archie’s voice more. Doesn’t sound as tweeny pop and reminds me a little bit of Apologize. If TMH becomes the next single it might find its way onto my ipod. ;)

  • marco5ny

Yow! I hear a lot of Bob Dylan influence in the lyrics! My Hands seems pretty disposable but I can just see a concert filled with preteens singing along thinking how meaningful it is.

Touch My Hands seems like it was a song written AFTER the production team developed a storyboard for a video or a “moment” that will happen during a concert. Can’t you hear the committee now? “Okay what about if he’s on stage and sings to some girl in the crowd then pulls her on stage with his puppy dog eyes? All the girls in the audience will start crying and pleading to be the one as soon as they hear the opening start to play. Let’s write a song to go along with that and check that off the list.”

I think David is much more talented that this but I realize he’s got to follow a certain formula with his first album to be a success. I hope his second album will follow the route that Kelly Clarkson took and be a bit more developed past generic pop.
