It was beyond amazing. Especially towards the end where all the rockets were going off and he still sounded amazing!

He was great!! To sing that acapella in a stadium that large, with cannons and helicopters and the crowd–wow. DA did incredible! So glad he could come sing the anthem here in Hawaii in the Pro Bowl’s last year here (for now).

He was stunning!!! I loved his smile toward the end when the helicopters were hovering. I think he was so into that moment he was experiencing!!!

But did you hear how they introduced him? They said, “American Idol STAR and Jive recording artist”!!! They didn’t say AI runner up, or AI finalist!!!! They called him a STAR!!! And HE IS!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!!!

I’m not even a big David A. fan and that was one of the most beautiful versions of the NA I have ever heard. The right blend of “playing it straight’ with a few well timed flourishes. This boy can saannng! Very, very impressive.

David has no peer vocally in singing live, or singing acapella. He just sang a version of the SSB that rivals any critically acclaimed version of it done – move over Jennifer and Whitney, make room for David. :king_tb:

Whatever nerves he may have expressed in the week leading up to this stunning performance were vanquished the instant he opened his mouth. His confidence was evident, he was in utter vocal control, but allowed himself the artistic license to add some licks and runs that are uniquely David, without detracting from the song.

He is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack in his ability to deliver time and time again live, and in the clutch. What his fans have known and championed about his vocal genius was just unleashed upon a 40 million viewer audience, in its natural and undoctored state, and those who may still refuse to believe he’s that good are going to be in a very lonely minority after today. BRAVO DAVID ARCHULETA.

That’s really nice of you to comment on it. It’s definitely a song that shows what a singer is made of vocally and he definitely shows it all when he sings that song. I love his rendition probably the most of any I’ve ever heard.

That was a favorite part for me too. I also liked how he changed it up a bit with the soaring “that our flag was still there.” Nicely done. David is amazing. I would be a nervous wreck if I were in front of a stadium crowd of 50,000 people. He, on the other hand, was as cool as a cucumber. Even the sudden cannon thunder, the fiery rockets, and the helicopters flying overhead couldn’t throw him off his stride. Bravo, David!! :thumbup_tb:

Great job by Archie! I think it’s one of the best versions of the SSB that I’ve heard. However, I do have a slight preference for Josh Groban’s rendition of all those by male vocalists. Amongst the women, Whitney still edges out J-Hud.

Funny part about Enrique is that there was tons of press here in Hawaii about David singing the National Anthem and Enrique was barely mentioned as the halftime entertainment.

No, not this time around. I didn’t go to the Pro Bowl. I went to Ohana Day on Saturday but we had to leave right after David performed because my Dad couldn’t stay out in the sun for too long.

I would love to hear him perform at the Grammys. After listening to some of the lackluster performances this year I think he could more than hold his own on that stage.

I guess I’ll have to be the one who didn’t like his performance. His voice should have been perfect for it but he ruined it with the multiple runs imo. I’m a purist when it comes to the NA.

Had to go to wiki to get a clearer understanding of the term “purist”, in all its impli- and applications…. Found many different subsets of “purism” – the subset for Music is enlightening. It appears to be a highly subjective reference, and one, that if adhered to in that category, would kill the joy for many of just listening to and appreciating the individual stamp each artist brings to a work. Everyone has their own preference, and that I can respect.

If those definitions are accurate, does this mean a “purist” cannot appreciate the blues stylings of Eric Clapton, or the songs and bodies of work from artists from the British Invasion, including the Beatles and The Stones, The Who… even Elvis himself…. whose sounds were heavily influenced and derivative of the “purist” blues and R&B artists like Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Richard? Just askin’….

Yeah some peeps are very picky about the NA. He didn’t run it into the ground like some I’ve seen, uh J-Hud, Jordin. I liked their renditions too, but Archie is just something special on this song IMO.

Well, some people didn’t care for J-Hud’s version of the anthem because she changed it up quite a bit (moreso than DA). I actually loved her version as well, but I know some like it sung straight, which is just fine. I doubt you’ll hear the anthem sung straight much anymore, though. It’s been sung so many times at big venue events that artists will always attempt to do something to infuse freshness into the song. There will be varying levels of success, of course. I think DA’s and J-Hud’s change-ups worked.

Sounded good, a few flourishes in there that I would have avoided but the boy can sing. J-Hud’s version was a lip-sych (masterful job by her on the lip synch, much better than Jordin the year before) and this was live so it is kind of apples and oranges.

It always surpriseme that you are allow to change the anthem… in my country it isn ´t… I like this version, funny enough I have being humming the US Anthem the hold day… my co workers think I ´m a little crazy… lol

soundscene – I’m the opposite of you. Went to the Pro Bowl and missed Ohana Day.

If I opened my email Friday night, I would’ve found out that David was going to be on the Perry & Price show. Sweetie invited me to the show because I had written to KSSK to see if they could bring David into the studio for an interview. Now, she’s looking into whether I can get a copy of Saturday’s show. I so hope so. I heard a clip of the interview this am on KSSK.

I tried getting video of David singing. The fireworks/helicopters were so loud, David got drowned out on my camera.

Sunday night, David did another Fireside. Today & tomorrow, he’s playing tourist until he goes back to Orlando for the Disney thing. At least he gets to chill now.

Aww. He did great! I’m not a fan of the extra runs, but his voice sounded good and strong.
