If you were there, drop by and tell us about it!

I can’t get over that crowd! Wow. Buffalo seems to love them some Archie. Nice to see David playing the keyboard on stage. He looks and sounds very comfortable.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^ I actually think is really great that he is taking this oportunities to practice with instruments and banter, maybe in the future we will see him playing instruments in more of his originals… and even maybe the guitar… :D

  • houstonrufus

And, actually, I must confess, A Thousand Miles is what made me a fan of David. I saw the famous utube clip back at the beginning of the season. The simplicity of the song allows his voice to really shine. The tone of his voice is what makes it so unique and special. The longing in the lyrics matches the melancholy beauty of that tone perfectly.

I wasn’t so much a fan of the original, but I really love David’s version. Smart choice to incorporate it into his set when he can. It’s a popular song that most young (and older?) people know. Even if they show up to the concert unfamiliar with David, he can get their attention with the Thousand Miles performance.

The Houston show was great, but the Buffalo show looks out of this world.

  • soundscene

He was awesome!! He’s getting so comfortable on stage–the changes he’s made in that area in such a short amount of time are amazing.

Love when he looks in the camera. Haha. I think he recognized the person taking the video–muldur.

    Also, I’m digging the outfit.

  • ggdoorsfan

I believe David is taking all the right steps in laying the foundations for long term success w/these Jingle Ball concerts. He is changing the way he has been perceived from AI – gone is the “boring ballad guy”, “not gonna be relevant in the mainstream” misconceptions….. in place now is a well rounded and versatile YOUNG POP ARTIST, who is connecting with and receiving great reviews and response from the crowds.

When you see his development – especially in his growing comfort in working and using the stage, and engaging the audience in singing along to the ATM cover and his songs, it has to make even the coldest heart thaw a bit… Time and youth are definitely on his side, he will continue to WOW the folks, I’m sure, at these shows, and he will continue to WOW the fans throughout his progression as an artist… Oh… and I love the acapella version of Xmas songs he’s been throwing in… Like Mr. Cowell said to him, “when you got it, you got it,” and when you can truly SING, music accompaniment is superflorous…

  • beebee

If it’s true that (somebody said this) he has to be prepared with non-band, non-album songs in his back pocket for events that give him more performance time than he and the band have rehearsed/prepared for (like “A Thousand Miles”), I’d LOVE to see him pull “Crazy” and WOTWTC out of his hat. (Hat, pocket…lol… whatevah). I’ve heard him say he’s working on raising his guitar skills. I think a nice unplugged WOTWTC on guitar (like the FoxUtah, SLC performance) would be a STELLAR addition. Dean Kealin’s simple guitar accompaniment for that Fox performance was great. David could pull that off with a little practice I bet. Also, I LOVE the counterpoint that these alternate performances lend to the high energy Album songs. The uptempo album songs seem really DEMANDING to perform one on top of the other. The unplugged counterpoint is so . . . LOVELY.

  • kimk

I just listened to this on the cellcast and today watching the videos and am so wishing there was one close by me. How amazing is it that he is finally getting to a place where he is comfortable on stage. Loved the little dance when the piano wasn’t working and A Thousand Miles I really hope he keeps that in his show too! Hey tonight he has a longer set I think and I wonder what extras he will come up with? So extra loving the new David!!

  • JudyOhio

    What is WOTWTC?

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^Waiting on The World to Change, you know his audition song by John Mayer…

Judy, sorry ’bout that. lol. Was being lazy.

Here’s a link to tonight’s Jingle Ball for David – looks like it’s him, Gavin DeGraw and one other group…. is he headlining?

    http://www.fly92.com/pages/pages.php?page=50

  • beebee

I heard he IS headlining. :)

  • ggdoorsfan

For real Beebee?!! All I have to say about that is………..

    :jittery_tb: :jittery_tb: :jittery_tb: :jittery_tb:

GO GET ‘EM TONIGHT DAVID !

  • beebee

lol… gg… breathe in… breathe out. Yes, an archie from brooklyn is attending and told me this.

  • IdolFanatic

Can’t wait to see these videos later when I get home! All these Jingle Bash concerts are excellent preparation for next year when he starts touring.

  • ggdoorsfan

    :jittery_tb: :jittery_tb:

I’m just A Little Too Not Over that news yet Beebee – LOLOL… I’ll be OK by showtime – my spazzies HAVE reduced to 2 from the 4 in my last post

  • serenade

ATM live in concert is awesome.

You can has become a favorite of mine because of these Jingle Ball performances.

When i see David performing in concert, it feels like he was always meant to do just that.

This. Songs like ATM and even You Can are a perfect match for the quality of his voice.

  • beebee

lol. gg, have you seen David live yet? My very first time was in Sacramento. GUH!

serenade, I agree and love the counterpoint that those songs add. I also think the soulfulness in Waiting On The World to Change is a perfect match for his unbelievable organic soulful stylings, which just seem to flow effortlessly from… MARVIN GAYE? lol. (That’s what my sister said when I sent her that link above of him singing WOTWTC. “Man, it’s like he’s chanelling Marvin Gaye or somethin’…” Loved that.)

  • ggdoorsfan

Yes Beebee – saw him this summer in Charlotte on 8/17 – got to talk with him in the M&G earlier in the day, AND he gave me a nice hug! … and I’m A Little Too Not Over that still…. LOLOLOLOL

  • Jabkmc
  • primeminister

Finally, an outfit that i like!!

  • KathyH

I love everything about that “A Thousand Miles” video — he did very well on the piano, and the crowd was REALLY into it. I can’t fathom how it must have felt to the Archuleta fans in the audience to hear the crowd singing along. Such a great spirit about that whole thing.

  • Suzanne

I love him. He’s such a great, charismatic performer.

Just looked at that link for the concert tonight. They have that video of the girls all upset at the Archuleta loss imbedded on the page. Gavin DeGraw I think would be the bigger name, but it does look like they are presenting David as the bigger draw. I wonder if he’ll close the show?

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^Then is mean that he has to do a longer set… wonder what he will do?…I bet the poor little guy is going nuts because he only has 5 songs practiced with tha band… in any case he could do MH,he did it in the AOL sessions, Crazy and Waiting on the World to change..I bet the fanbase will go nuts if he close the show…

    ETA.
If he sings MH I will go bananas, and maybe he can do SOT…

  • beebee

OH i wish he WOULD do Somebody Out There! That would be DIVINE! That and MH… YES!

  • JudyOhio

He could choose to do Angels, but it wouldn’t look/sound quite the same sitting at that keyboard.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^Then that logic could be use for Crazy and ATM too, lets see the set that he could do is…
    TMH
    ANGELS
    CRAZY
    WFM
    ALTNOY
    YC
    MH
    ATM
    CRUSH
    WOTWTC

That will be the set that I will use, I don ´t think they will have him close the show, is to early and he doesn ´t have enough material ready now to d it … IMO

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

Ok my fellow Archies, snarkyarchies.com has confirmed that David is closing tonight:

    From Susan:
“Show starts at 7p à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ there are 3 artists (local band, Gavin & David) and David is last. Box Office says show will be over around 9:30pm. So David probably wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be on much before 830p—gah, I wonder how many songs heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll sing!!!!
Tell those listeners to the cell cast that I promise not to scream.

So I guess David is probably in panic right now, his first show closing that is something… Go David…

  • soundscene

Just looked at that link for the concert tonight. They have that video of the girls all upset at the Archuleta loss imbedded on the page. Gavin DeGraw I think would be the bigger name, but it does look like they are presenting David as the bigger draw. I wonder if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll close the show?

Gavin has been out longer, but he’s not a gigantic concert draw. He still plays small clubs–certainly not stadiums. He’s much more of a club artist that does fairly well on the radio.

At this point, with the exposure he’s had this year, and the success of Crush, I would expect David to be the biggest draw for tonight’s concert. It’s also the smallest concert he’ll do on this mini-Christmas tour.

ETA: Just received a report from a friend in line and they heard the band doing soundcheck. :)

  • JudyOhio

How small is the smallest concert of the mini-Christmas tour? How many people does the place hold?

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^No Idea… lol I was trying to look for info on the venue but no luck…

  • IdolFanatic

Finally got to watch all these and wow! It’s so great to see that’s he’s come to a place where he can perform with so much freedom and abandon now. I’m still amazed that he can run all over the stage like that and still breathe properly to stay on key. He doesn’t miss a beat! He’s truly a rare gem of a pop star that’s for sure. No lip synching, no autotune, no flashy dramatics, just purely wonderful vocals with fun and energetic and engaging performance. Amazing!

Jason Mraz talks about working with David in E! online, awww this is cute…

Jason Mraz Talks Grammys, Archuleta and Avocados

I spoke to David Archuleta the other day, and he told me he’d love to work with you some day, but he thinks he has some growing up and maturing to do before then.
I’d be happy to [work with him]à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦If Archuleta is a young man who has that awareness alreadyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ that I have some growing up to doà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ that’s amazing. That awareness is the first step. That’s the first tool that one needs to be a songwriter.

  • frogcooke

  • KathyH

That video of him singing “Touch My Hand” was amazing — he is SO good with the fans in this, and it was a smaller venue. My feelings are so torn about what I’d like to see him do next. (Not that I have a choice, but…) I agree that it’d be better for him to tour with a more established star (and my vote wouldn’t be for Chris Brown) but if I were purely selfish I’d say I’d rather see him headline at a smaller venue like this — but one with seating.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^I know whaT you mean, but I don ´t think he is ready yet to be a headline , I would rather see him with Chris Brown, getting new fanS, that in a smaller venue only whit David as the top act only us his fans will go, and we already bought the album so I don ´t think thats the idea… IMHO

  • augiedog

I am going to the Jingle Ball tonight at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. There are 9 acts scheduled, with just 20 minutes per set. On the KISS108 website, they are saying that David Archuleta is 3rd at 7:40 pm and he has a 25 mintue set. Ne-yo is currently up last. Should be interesting!

  • abbysee

    Holy ^&*() Batman

Jabkmc, you like him, huh? LOL!

  • KathyH

Cruzceleste, I agree. I was just listing my druthers. David needs to continue building his fanbase and he can do so by appearing with a headliner … I’m still not liking the Chris Brown pairing. But you know, I’m enough of a DA fan that I’ll go if he gets near me, no matter the circumstances.

Augiedog, can’t wait to hear about tonight’s concert!

  • JudyOhio

You know, not that Taylor made it all that far after his win, but he went the solo, smaller venue route after his album, and I believe he just made bigger fans of his already existing fan base and nothing more. I’d really like to see Archuleta build beyond, just like the rest of you. And now that we know he is SO appealing in concerts and how energized he is, he should gain many, many fans by being with a really good headliner. I think he would win the crowds over touring with an already established artist. My 2 cents of course.

  • abbysee

David is not ready to headline, not because he’s not good, it just that he needs the seasoning that touring with a veteran will bring him. I don’t think Chris Brown is that veteran. I am not sure who is, but I just think that they both mirror each other’s weakness as performers and that might not be the best thing. Chris is a great dancer, but vocally can’t compete with David. Imagine what the reviews would be like. Imagine the fanwaring.

  • ozarka

Katy Perry is touring from January 23rd through April 5th. Do you think that would be a better pairing?

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^That will be really fun for my matchmaking obsession, but I don ´t think so…Katy is a new artist too, maybe a bigger artist…

  • ozarka

That will be really fun for my matchmaking obsession

Katy is 6 years older than David. I don’t think he’ll go for that. :laugh_tb:

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^Love don ´t know age… he certanly seem to has a “crush” on Natasha Bedingfield and she is 8 years old I think… oh and tonight Natasha, Katy and David in the same concert… OMG I ´m having way to much fun with this… this is calling for a cat fight …meow…

  • ozarka

    I don ´t think soà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Katy is a new artist too, maybe a bigger artistà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

How about Celine Dion? She’s doing tours in January through February.

  • khomphuong

    ^ How about Jason Mraz??…

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

How about Celine Dion? Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing tours in January through February.

    NO, her audience is “mature”…

    How about Jason Mraz??à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I bet David will be the happiest kid alive is this hapen but Marz is to organic… David need a little more pop artist right now… but I don ´t know, maybe it could work…

  • tinawina

Interesting. 2 touring discussions going on at the same time. This is fun. Hmm…

Well, if you think about it strategically, they could pair him with another teen-leaning pop act, like Jessie Mcartney. But, he already is familiar to that audience, so, where does David Archuletta have room to expand? He has a very soulful, r&B voice, so perhaps an R&B leaning pop act like Chris Brown is a good idea. His fans might like Archie. Or Rhianna maybe? He could go the pure pop route with Natasha B, and that might help set him up with the singer/songwriter vibe he is likely to pursue next.I think Katy Perry is a little too raunchy for the Archster.

  • ozarka

I think Katy Perry is a little too raunchy for the Archster.

That’s what I was thinking too. Ironically, Katy Perry used to be a Christian recording artist in the not too distant past.

2 touring discussions going on at the same time.

Which other thread are you referring to?

  • tinawina

Which other thread are you referring to?

Oh sorry, I was talking about DCO, they were over there speculating about DC touring options. I think strategic marketing talk is fun because I’m weird like that.

I would kinda like to see Natasha B because I tend to like the slower, songwritery songs of his, and I love that “Works For Me”. Maybe he should do that toward the end of next year though, when his album (may?) be ending its life, to set him up for the next one. Right now he’s gotta ago with a crowd that has high album buying potential, so I think Chris Brown fans might be a good bet. Though I think there is a lot of Natasha B crossover potential too. I can’t make up my mind here. Wait, shouldn’t Christina Aguleria be touring too? She’s another pop type with a strong R&B flavored voice, could she be a good match?

  • Janiece

I found this video this morning posted in Shontelle’s blog. It’s from Martin of Boys Like Girls and it’s just some backstage stuff from the Buffalo show. They’re trying to dig up some dirt on David.
