David Archuleta made his acting debut on Nickelodeon’s iCarly tonight. Check out his scene after the jump.   Plus, he performs “Crush.”

It was very cute!

Archie was so incredibly adorable on iCarly tonight! They should have allowed him to appear more thoughout the episode. He was … by huge leaps and bounds …the best part of the show.

First MJ I LUV YOU…. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!!!! :D

And he was really cute… I really like iCarly :D

    ETA:

David expression in that caption is priceless…lol

David Archuleta, IMO, has those endearing qualities that will keep him going long after David Cook is gone!

    Go Archie…!!! :thumbup_tb:

  • Jabkmc

jumpstart – I haven’t watched it yet. I DVR’d it and will use my FF button later. There are just some things I won’t do…even for Archie. haha!

But, it was probably a time issue that he wasn’t on more. In an interview with one of the guys on the show, he said that David only found out shortly before they started filming what his lines were and what he was to do.

Kress says Archuleta proved himself a natural at the short scenes he stars in for the episode.

“He took it all totally in stride, especially since he had no idea what his lines were until he showed up that day, and we shot it half an hour later,” he says. “So in half an hour he pulled it off impressively.

    meh!

  • stelladallas

I love how they spoofed “American Idol”. They were watching a show called “America Sings” and Carly says, “No wonder they’re losing teens to the internet!” Ha ha!

  • lefty

MJ – that screencap is priceless.

  • sidewalk

David really did a great job. I forgot how good he is on camera! The show was very cute.

  • JudyOhio

Well, after watching this, I feel SO, SO, SOOOOO old!, lol. All in all though, a cute show. Hope DA can get a little bump in his song sales from it.

ETA…That really is a perfect screencap MJ!

  • Lys

Aw. Well, I love both Davids. And right now, I don’t think there’s any reason to think that either David will “outlast” the other in terms of career longevity or whatever.

But anyway, I love that screencap, MJ! Still lol-ing at that clip… He’s such a darling. :laugh_tb:

  • IGetCranked

I think I’m going to change my screen name to Hob-Knocker.

If Crush wan’t shortened, I would have thought that was the recording!

  • abbysee

He was adorable. I watched with my kiddies. The doorbell rang with the pizza delivery as soon as he sang Crush. Guess who had to answer the door? Oh well, I’ve heard it before, lol. He does have a face made for tv though.

  • mac

David sounded really good singing Crush. I just wish he would sing with his eyes open. They were closed for almost the entire song. He has lovely eyes, and he should let the audience see them!

  • lefty

    I watched with my kiddies.

Me too. I have to say that as far as kids’ shows go, iCarly is one of the funnier ones. Even hubby laughed out loud once or twice, and the kids were cracking up the whole time. I found myself grinning because it was the first time in months we were all sitting down together to watch David on TV.

  • luckeee55

I watched Crush night with two tween girls (niece and her friend), one whom was familiar with young David, one who was not. Both squealed several times during the evening and loved his performance of Crush which came at about 1 1/2 hours into the evening’s programming. I wonder if the hosting segments were taped at a different time than the actual show as David looked a bit different in the host segments, maybe a bit older or something? Or maybe I am just imaging this. Overall David did a good job blending in with the others around him as none of them are exactly Emmy caliber actors in my opinion. And David is a cutie, there is no denying his appeal in that area.
Anyway the icarly show did lampoon American Idol. Loved the winning announcement segment and the British character was a jab at Simon I think.

  • caringgirl

I came here to say how great archie was on icarly..I had never watched the show, so I watched tonight just for David…I thought he was as awesome as always. I actually love both davids and I think they will both go far. Just because you like one, doesnt mean you have to hate the other and wish them a doomed career. When does he sing ALTNOY on icarly? I dont think I missed it did I?

  • lefty

I just wish he would sing with his eyes open. They were closed for almost the entire song.

This was one of the first times I was really aware of his closed eyes. I had to wonder if that close, close audience caused him to keep them shut more than usual. I would have been so distracted by all those people up so close – but then again, I am very easily distracted.

I agree with you that David has lovely eyes. :happy_tb:

  • lefty

I think he filmed the hosting segments a couple of weeks ago, while the actual episode was back in the fall (but those in the know might need to correct me here).

  • IdolFanatic

I just wish he would sing with his eyes open. They were closed for almost the entire song. He has lovely eyes, and he should let the audience see them!

He must have been really nervous because I was surprised to see he’s back to so much eye closing while singing. He’d really seemed to have broken that habit and kept his open a lot more while performing since Idol. My guess is he felt overwhelmed with nerves and maybe that’s how he deals with it. Hard to say, but he did a good job on the singing.

  • IGetCranked

caringgirl, there is a repeat next week and they will show him performing Altnoy then.

Maybe the lights were in his eyes? LOL

  • ozarka

triplicate post. Sorry, I am unable to delete the other one.

  • ozarka

David did a great job cohosting Crush Night. He was cute as always during both the “America Sings” episode and the hosting. His performance of Crush was awesome.

I wonder if the hosting segments were taped at a different time than the actual show as David looked a bit different in the host segments, maybe a bit older or something?

I believe the hosting was shot just a few weeks ago; whereas the acting part was taped back in October.

When does he sing ALTNOY on icarly?

They will replay an encore of Crush Night next Sunday, February 15th. That’s when his performance of ALTNOY will be shown.

BTW, Crush Night is replaying right now as I type this on NIKP. There are two Nickelodean channels, NIK and NIKP. It’s replaying right now on NIKP. David’s Crush performance comes on in the middle of the show “The Naked Brothers.”

Thanks Igetcranked and okarka for letting me know..ill be sure and watch..I happen to love ALTNOY!! (I like Barriers better though) I hope its his next single!!

  • IdolFanatic

I love it when David goes “Room 513!” right into the camera. That’s probably the most “evil” we will ever see him be. LOL! He’s too cute :)

  • ozarka

The iCarly site has some really cute pics of David biting stuff on the set of iCarly…

Very cute! The screen cap is awesome, mj!

  • houstonrufus

Thanks for the vids, MJ. I thought he did really well. He was clearly having a good time. I don’t have kids and the show was like watching foreign language tv to me, but I enjoyed David’s appearance. Go d!!! I understand the show gets good ratings, and his name was mentioned about 100 times. So good promo!

  • rockfan

What is hob knocker? This is what you find when you google it.

Feb 7, 2009 … The term Hob Knocker emerged in the top searches today because it was mentioned by David Archuleta in his appearance at ICarly. …

  • Niall

Davey poo better hope that other vocal cord holds up because he definitely isn’t going to have a future as an actor. Wooden and awkward.

  • shebee

    surprise,surprise…typical niall post

Davey poo better hope that other vocal cord holds up because he definitely isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t going to have a future as an actor. Wooden and awkward.

I think he did wonderful tonight and should do as much acting as time allows!

    CONGRATULATIONS, DAVID!!

  • IGetCranked

Yea rockfan, especially since he got his lines 30 min. before they filmed and didn’t practice. It was fun and exposure and it worked.

  • Lys

    Wooden and awkward.

Well, I kind of agree with you on the awkward part, but that’s only because David pretty much radiates awkwardness/adorkable-ness/whatever-you-want-to-call-it wherever he goes. I call it part of his natural charm, lol.

  • frogcooke

Awww I just watch this back since i misssed it on tv. He did a great job and looks like he had fun :)

He does that eyes closed thing when cameras are smack in his face and not sure where to look. He did the same thing with the aol sessions lol

  • RemusL

rockfan, that google search also leads to definitions for a sound-alike term that Archie’s fanbase certainly shouldn’t be researching.

Niall, so he’s not a natural actor based on a single tv appearance in which he’s asked to play himself. I’m sure if he wants to pursue acting more seriously, he’d enrol in some acting classes. I thought he did fine for what the role required. However, he did seem quite at ease doing the co-hosting duties. He more than held his own opposite Miranda Cosgrove for that.

Speaking of Miranda Cosgrove, does that music video mean she can actually sing? In the Jack Black movie, School of Rock, she played a character who specifically lacked musical ability.

  • Suzanne

Well, after watching this, I feel SO, SO, SOOOOO old!,

    Me too.

  • LK09

If Crush wanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t shortened, I would have thought that was the recording!

Every time he sings at an event like he did on this show or at the Hawaii event today, I think he must be lip syncing, since it is SO good, but then I hear something different– a musical nuiance in the song, and I know it is him singing live. He is amazing.

I watched with my husband and 21 year old daughter, and we definitely thought it was funny. I can see why kids today would like a show like this– it is modern and random like teens today.

Awkward David is the way we love him. It is endearing, unpretentious and very refreshing for someone who is famous and so talented. He is just himself and does not pretend to be something else.

MJ- Your pieces of the hosting video is being shown over at FOD. You are really getting around.

  • frogcooke

YEah especially with the ALTNOY performance from Ohana Day, if i hadnt heard the song before and knew better.. id of thought FOR SURE he was lip syncing that song…he hit the bridge especially well.

Crush, well he’s got that down pat by now so…. lol

  • ozarka

^^ It’s a made-up word created specially for that particular episode. That’s why the actors were always whispering the definition into each others ears. It’s not a real word.

  • Tony

I watch too much Nickelodeon for my own good, but I have to say that I HATE HATE HATE iCarly (the bastard child of the just as bad “Drake & Josh”). It’s just 30 minutes of jokes that follow this forumula: referring to things in a way that no normal person would. It’s so grating.

They advertised David’s appearance every 10 seconds and I STILL forgot to watch it. Maybe it was just my mental block tuning out the show altogether.

  • frogcooke

Cant wait to hear the NA today at the probowl! Gonna be awesome :D

  • ozarka

The “iRocked the Vote” episode of iCarly is available for purchase from iTunes for $1.99!

  • poporange

I agree with Niall on the other hand it was not “CSI” was mostly done as a promo/pr and the guy had fun..It is a no-brainer to state I seen others debute into acting who were better. Daivd A giving him a break and wait and see.

Tony-if you hate “Icarly” the episode was really cutsey almost could not make it through it.

Miranda I read somewhere did take vocal lessons and can sing. Jannete(blond girl)-was on Law&order svu among others..

  • Suzanne

I know. It’s not exactly written by Aaron Sorkin. These sitcoms for kids are written like most sitcoms in the 70s/early 80s (Diff’rent Strokes, etc.)–strings of weak jokes with not a lot of substance.

David’s an incredible singer and musical talent in general, but he really could use those acting lessons. I mean, he did fine, but it was slapstick without the pratfalls.

I agree that he did well on the scripted filler bits with Miranda Cosgrove. His delivery of those were much more natural.

lol well it got me, I actually did the search for the term….

And about iCarly being a silly show, well it is, and is what is pretend to be a show for kids… personally I liked, I can watch and episode whenever I have time and I don ´t even have to know what happened the episode before… in the end is a show for kids/ teenagers so I don ´t want to find lots of serious stuff in it…

  • frogcooke

there was a big gap between when he filmed iCarly and when he did the filler bits. lol

  • jumpstart

LOL! Yep … evil plus Archie definitely do not compute.

  • KathyH

David has said himself that if he wanted to pursue acting he’d need lessons/work. And if he did so, I’d be fine with it but I’m looking forward to seeing his continued growth as a musician.

Enjoyed “Crush” last night. Can’t wait for the NA performance today.

  • OverTheRainbow

I watched “Crush Night” last night.

  • OverTheRainbow

Plus, they never said what a hobknocker was, out loud, that is.

  • hollygo9

He was cute but the poor kid can’t act to save his life. I was kind of surprised at how little he was actually in the show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

You can buy David ´s episode now in iTunes is $1.99…

  • soundscene

I thought it was really cute, and that David has the potential to be a good actor. The hosting bits between the episodes showed that. The problem with these kids’ shows and judging acting talent is that the kids are supposed to overact. Miranda Cosgrove, if given a non-kids-show script, is actually a really good actor. Same with that girl who stars in Tru Jackson (she was in that spelling bee movie, and was really good in it, but she overacts on this show). The kids aren’t supposed to use the same style of acting that they would in an adult show.

David had a half hour to learn his lines before he filmed. He did great considering that and the fact it was his first time attempting acting. His co-hosting bits (which were basically acting, except directly to the camera) were great.

  • CSFan

He really wasn’t very good and I don’t think there is any reason for it other than he’s just an awkward kid without much natural acting talent. Having 30 minutes to learn a few lines isn’t really a hardship. He just couldn’t perform well. Stick with your day job indeed, Archie.

  • lefty

I thought he was just fine for that type of show. I have no great need to see David pursue an acting career, but for what it’s worth, Will Smith’s acting on the early days of “Fresh Prince” was pretty terrible, and he’s gone on to do just fine I’d say.

I don’t think you can judge anyone too seriously based on their first acting job (and one that consists of about five minutes of screen time at that).

  • stelladallas

Well, I didn’t watch iCarly for David’s acting skills! I just wanted to see him and hear him sing. It wasn’t supposed to be his big breakthrough acting performance! LOL

I watch too much Nickelodean for my own good…

So what’s your favorite show then, Spongebob? :p

  • Cakenbake

David is so darn cute in the photo. Thanks MJ. I have seen that show a couple of times, but didn’t pay that much attention to it, but this time I was on pins/needles watching every second waiting for David.

  • ozarka

David’s “iRocked the Vote” episode on iCarly is currently #8 on iTunes’ Top TV Episodes! :thumbup_tb:

  • cooktard76

I missed the episode (we don’t catch much tv on the weekends), but my son watches it all the time during the week so I know I’ll see it. I actually like the show, I think its cute. Course, I liked Drake & Josh too, so I don’t know what that says about my maturity level, lol.
