David Archuleta’s debut album, David Archuleta drops on Tuesday.   You can listen to the entire album here, but there are some bonus tracks on the Deluxe Version that aren’t part of the album preview stream.

You can listen to clips right now at Amazon HERE

The bonus songs are “Waiting for Yesterday”, “Let Me Go”, both co-written by David (maybe not, I have to confirm that – BMI info on “Waiting for Yesterday”) and “Falling”, written entirely by David when he was 14 years old. The clips are only 30 seconds, so I’ll reserve judgment until I can listen to full clips. But, for those of you who are fearless–what do you think?

Pre-order David’s Album:

Nice guide, from cruzceleste, of all the different album versions. Curse those multiple versions! Heh.

Amazon Deluxe- 15 songs – only for download in MP3
Amazon- Hard Copy of the CD – only has the 12 regular songs
Itunes Deluxe- 15 songs plus 1 video (Crush); if you Pre- Order you get an extra song, “Somebody Out There”
iTunes – 12 songs
Kmart – If you buy your copy there you get a free poster
Walmart – If you buy your copy at Walmart you get the 12 songs plus a co-write Archie- Daniel Bedingfield song called “Works For Me”

  • frogcooke

Actually I dont think he co-wrote those 2. He co-wote the walmart exclusive ‘works for me’ and I think the itunes pre-order exclusive ‘somebody out there’

  • cruzceleste

^I don ´t know I think I remember something about David co writing thos two… we know for sure that David wrote Falling (Thank you MJ)…
I like Let Me Go sounds, and Falling sounds really good so far… I agree with billboard David and a piano is the way to go…

    ETA.
BTW Made by MTv is one of my favorites shows in MTv… wonder what David will be doing…

  • dancingqueen

I hate the different bonuses at different sites crap! I need to buy a few of these for peeps who put it on their Christmas list and don’t know – never mind – they’re getting the plain brown wrapper version – no fights that way.

  • frogcooke

The deluxe versions are both just digital versions(mp3 downloads at itunes and amazon). Itunes has the added pre-order only track, ‘Somebody Out There’. Walmart has the regular cd with the exclusive bonus track, ‘Works For Me’(on the physical cd)

  • Kirsten

Looks like the street violations are starting already. Here’s a picture of what the physical CD will look like that I stole from Pulse:

    Pic of CD

  • frogcooke

this should be the right BMI info for Waiting For Yesterday

  • terps

Waiting for yesterday and Falling are alright but I can’t stand Let me Go

  • JudyOhio

And I can’t stand Waiting for Yesterday. Wow, I’m a huge fan of DA, so it’s hard to believe I said that, but this is the first song I just don’t like (from the snippet anyway).

  • temkanoe

First time poster, looong time lurker! HI!

Like MJ said, take it with a grain of salt, I myself, hated Barriers from the 30 second snippet. And once I heard the whole song, it’s one of my faves!

  • proudmom

Hard to tell with snippets, but judging from the 30-second clips, I LOVE Let Me Go. Surprised that didn’t end up on the main album. Waiting for Yesterday is pretty good as well. As for Falling, it’s okay. His voice is beautiful (as always) with ballads, but I actually think he does better with the pop/r&b style. (Although perhaps that’s because I prefer to listen to that over ballads.) I love so many of the songs on his album! Great debut.

  • JudyOhio

Hi temkanoe! Welcome to the land of the posters at MJ’s, the best site for all things American Idol!

  • elephant1212

archie was #10 on rick dees top 40 this week..he was #13 last week

  • leome

And I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand Waiting for Yesterday

Indeed. The ayyy-yeyeeyyy–yeayaayy it’s just too bad.

I like to talk about previews, but even I can’t really say much about falling. Too short to feel it for some reason. Let Go was ok. The one I liked the most.

  • bigepaz

Hmmm…I’m not as excited about these tracks (I love the album and all the full tracks I’ve heard), but maybe I’ll like it when I hear it in context with the deluxe album.

    Thanks again MJ!

  • MJack

Judging from snippets I like Let me go the most. Also Falling may be a really good ballad.

  • clee1107

I’m not gonna judge songs from 30 sec snippets. Last time I was totally shocked after I heard full versions. So far….I like all songs. Waiting for yesterday is similart to Crush. Very catchy and fun song. Falling..Hmm..I have to prepare tissue. Let me Go…wow…dance dance!!

  • Suzanne

Well, from what? 15%? of the song, I mildly liked Falling, I’m neutral on Let me go, and I kind of didn’t like Waiting for Ye-ye-ye-ye . . . ye-ye-ye-sterday.

  • temkanoe

Hmm… and here I thought it was more like Waiting for Yesterday ay ay ay ay ay… :ponder_tb:

  • abbysee

This clips seem even shorter than the others. Did not like Waiting at all. Liked Falling, and the last one Let Me Go had a Stevie wonder circa 1980 vibe. I liked it.

  • frogcooke

    Yesterday ay-eh-ay day ay-eh-ay day ay-eh-ay

lol why are we analyzing this? hahahaha only a few more days till full clips! cant wait

  • cruzceleste

It seems loke some radio station in Houston is like “who cares what Jive is going to do as a next single”, yesterday they used Your Eyes Don ´t Lies in the Face Of Challange, they play two songs and people vote what song they like the most… YEDL won yesterday… maybe they will play it monday again to see is it continue to do ok…

  • abbysee

Your Eyes Don’t Lie is the third single that will lead this cd into double platinum status. That will be the song on everyones lips late winter, early spring…..jmho.

That song is one of the ones that keep popping into my head.

  • cruzceleste

lol… Abbysee, your are a positive person… I liked is a very fun song to sing and blast while you drive in the car (I know I keep driving by a hour just to keep listen to David ´s songs)

  • Jabkmc

ROFL! Rascal at NotingDavid just posted this:

Okay so let me make sure I understand thisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ You can download a CD from iTunes that will have 12 songs on it, but if you pre-order it you can get two additional tracksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ If you buy a cup of coffee from Starbucks, you can purchase a special CD with 14 tracks that also contains a code to get an additional song from Amazon, but then your iTunes pre-order will contain only one additional song, with the second becoming available when you have your car tuned at the local Jiffy Lube. If you buy the Wal-Mart CD before noon on a Sunday in a leap year, the bonus tracks all come packaged with a coupon to 1-800-FLOWERS, where, if your put in an order within three weeks using the special coupon, you can download a special bonus track with a Firefox 3 browser, as long as it is enabled with Microsoftà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new Silverlight. But only if after purchasing either the Standard CD, Extra CD, Deluxe CD, Special-Deluxe CD, or the Super-Duper Ultra-Extra Double-Special CD with Limited Edition Foil Stamping (available at participating Nutter Butter retailers) and finding the track with the reverse background vocals proclaiming à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Paul is dead,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ can you be eligible to receive the super-secret extra-special double-track addition that contains an explanation of how to actually acquire every song that has been approved for release.
    Do I have that right?

  • cruzceleste

^I think Rascal finally lost it… jk I know he is joking, well, here is how it goes and please corrects me if IÂ ´m wrong…

Amazon Deluxe- 15 songs only for download in MP3…
Amazon- Hard Copy of the cd… only has the 12 regulars songs (If you live in another country live me and are buying in Amazon this is the one you will get)
Itunes Deluxe- 15 songs plus 1 video (Crush); if you Pre- Order you get an extra song…
    iTunes- 12 songs
Kmart- If you buy your copy there you get a free poster…
Walmart- If you buy your copy at Walmart you get the 12 songs plus a co write Archie- Daniel Bedingfield song called Works For Me

    ETA.
David will be today at Open House Party

  • abbysee

I love Rascal. I’ve been trying to get the decoder ring for the cd too! Maybe there is some kinda map, or tarot cards that can help with this monumental decision.

  • JudyOhio

Abbysee, ITA, and I think You’re Eyes Don’t Lie will be sung (and whistled, lol) everywhere! I LOVE that song. Furthermore, You Can and To Be With You are two beautiful songs that I think might stand the test of time. This whole album is just superb imo.

  • Jabkmc

    Judy -

You Can could probably cross over to Country.
To Be With You will be played in tons of weddings come this spring. LOL!

  • gerreb

    Alright, here’s my two cents:

I seem to be in the minority here and actually really like Waiting for Yesterday…I think it’s pretty catchy. True, maybe they could’ve done with out the ay-ay-ay, but i like it nonetheless
Falling….very pretty, i love the piano…impressive for being written by a 14 year old
Let Me Go….i really like this one, i like the background vocals in this one, it adds a nice touch!
    Overall: thumbs up! :)

  • houstonrufus

gerreb, I agree with you. I like all the bonus tracks. I was surprised. I actually like a couple of them as much or more than a couple on the album. And Falling, well, it’s lovely. But I’m not surprised. Anyone with David’s gift for vocal interpretation should have a fine sense of melody.

  • cruzceleste

Nice guide, from cruzceleste, of all the different album versions. Curse those multiple versions! Heh.

I feel honored my screen name is at op of the post…IÂ ´m not worthy :embarrassed_ee: …lol :laugh_tb:

    eta:
Yes I Â ´m easy to get excited about little things…

DA is at Open House Party right now… his voice sounds a little tired IMHO (he is not singign, just hang in out)…

  • cruzceleste

I can ´t edit the ^post… so here is a nice little review of Touch My Hands, it seems that more people like it … maybe Jive does know what is doing…

Another longer review from the Album… there are some parts that I agree and some others that just let me :mellow_tb: well is objective and really long…

  • abbysee

Cruzceleste, what a great interview. I just could not bring myself to listen to Radio Disney, but I just loved how great David sounds. He is really so comfortable now. He is funny too. I love his sense of humor. I liked those reviews too. They may not be over the moon about David, but at least they are critiquing the songs and David the american idol runner up.

  • chelley

    Someone help me here…(cruzceleste?)

So, I’ve been reading about all the bonus tracks but I haven’t paid too much attention because I’m one of those lonely souls who wants to wait and be completely surprised on the 11th when I have the CD in hand. BUT, of course, I want as many tracks as possible. And here’s the thing, I don’t have itunes but I do have an MP3 player. I don’t care for the poster or the video for crush but which thing has Angels? If I order the Amazon Deluxe CD, does it have to be before the 11th? and do those 15 tracks from Amazon include the Daniel Bedingfield co-written song that the Walmart CD has?

    Ay-yay-yay…someone help me…LOL

  • Aladdin88

Here’s additional insight and background regarding the song David wrote (Falling):

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=583383&view=findpost&p=17959354

The song isn’t about David, but is an empathetic song about a very tragic event.

  • Jabkmc

Aladdin88 – Wah! I already know I’m gonna cry buckets over Falling. Wah!

“Angels” is on any version of the CD you buy. You can order the Amazon Deluxe CD at any time. However, you need to order it before the 11th on iTunes to receive the special iTunes Bonus Track “Somebody Out There.” The Daniel Bedingfield song, “Works for Me” is ONLY available on the Wal-Mart version.

The song isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t about David, but is an empathetic song about a very tragic event.

Wow, just wow. That he wrote his first song about something like that, trying to feel what it must have felt like to be that depressed and alone.

This is one of the reasons that it irks me a little when people box him up into a neat teen star package.

  • Jabkmc

Mulder….er…David, “you just keep unfolding like a flower”. haha!

  • ozarka

Thanks, Aladdin. That’s a great story. I knew there was more to this young man than the happy-go-lucky kid we see all the time. Now, I’m more excited than ever to download the bonus tracks on Tuesday.

  • Carter

The more we go on, the less i understand the politics of the music industry on Itunes: i live in Italy and unfortunately Crush was never made available for us on the Italian itunes store, but the craziest thing is that the entire album is already purchaseable! There’s only the standard edition and anyway i always prefer to have the physical cd in my hand, so i’ll do my very best to stop myself for buying it now! :D
I heard only the first three songs on the album and i must admit that i was afraid they would destroy Archie’s voce in a sea of effects, autotunes and God knows what other, like Timbaland does usually, but eventually doen’t sounds so bad. Of course i’ll prefer for him a pop in the stile of Robbie Williams, less r&b beat and more instruments, but i hope this is just the beginning of a long career!

  • frogcooke

wow… about Falling. Thanks for posting that here. I probably would have gone bback through the thread.. lol

Thanks for posting that, Celeste. It was a great interview. He sounded really comfortable. Unfortunately, those YouTubes seem to have inadvertently left out almost 2 minutes out of that interview. They left out the part where he talks about how he thinks it’s really weird to hear himself singing on the radio and has to change the station whenever he comes on. Pretty funny stuff. Fortunately, you can download that missing portion from HERE.

  • E

Thanks for posting about “falling”. I’ve always suspected David is deeper than the typical teenager. Can’twait to hear the entire song.

off topic, I can’t stop listening to Barriers! best break up song! the last one and half minute is so emotionally packed.

  • IGetCranked

This is one of the reasons that it irks me a little when people box him up into a neat teen star package.

There was a time when I shut myself off from getting too deep into his performances because I let other opinions influence me. I didn’t want to think that there was someting “wrong” with me that I could be all into someone so young. After watching DLTSGDOM however, I don’t care. That performance was so packed with emotion that you can not deny that he is an artist. Now it is especially confirmed with this story. David is very different than other performers his age.

  • E

I’m seeing links to illegal download of the album on blogs. but what is upsetting, a lot of them starts like “I don’t like the kid” but I’m downloading his album nice songs”

  • Aladdin88

I normally don’t really care about what reviewers write, but I just got done reading Allmusic’s review of the album and I truly starting to believe that David isn’t going to get a fair shake no matter what he does. I wish these reviewers would spend a little less time re-hashing AI and personally attacking David and a little more time actually reviewing the album. This is getting ridiculous:

    http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kxfrxzlkldae~T1

And yes, I do blame Simon & Co. for a lot of this false perception about who David truly is.

  • mac

This is one of the reasons that it irks me a little when people box him up into a neat teen star package.

“The people” are boxing him into a neat teen star package, because that is the way he is being sold right now IMO. All the interviews with radio disney, constantly being publicized with Miley Cyrus (birthday party, Macy’s parade), layouts in various teen magazines, simplistic lyrics about teen subjects on the album. He is 17. I agree it was mature for him to write about this subject matter, but the song was about someone else. He didn’t draw into his inner feelings like many mature songwriters do (as someone mentioned on that IDF link). The label also didn’t include this song on the album (not just a bonus track). Why not? Did the label feel the subject matter was too heavy for the “teen” audience? Did it not fit in with the simple subjects of the album?

So to sell “units” right now, that is the way “the people” are being told to view him. So in that respect, I have to agree (right now at this point in time). He is a teen star artist. I truly believe he will progress past that in time and prove himself otherwise, because I think he is better than all the teen artists out there. But right now, in my opinion, this record has not progressed past teen pop. I look forward to his next album, where I think he might kick some serious butt.

  • E

Azorka: yes it is making me sad. I hope Archie actually has enough fans that will buy his album to counter the unfair reviews. I’m getting worried he won’t make enough to make asecond album.

I truly like all the songs, teen pop or not, it’s the kind of music I lsten to.

  • IGetCranked

mac, I agree with you quite a bit except for this :

I agree it was mature for him to write about this subject matter, but the song was about someone else. He didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t draw into his inner feelings like many mature songwriters do

He did draw into his feelings or he never could have wrote the song. The person who gave us this falling story said that David was very moved and upset by what happened.

  • mac

You are right IGetCranked. I didn’t word that right. I guess I was trying to say to open up about his own feelings about himself..about things that have happened to him, not about someone else. To dig deep within himself, about his fears, his loves, his experiences and write about those. Of course at 17, I agree there is not much back history, but I want to know what makes Archie tick. I want him to bare his soul to us! LOL. Right now, this won’t happen, but I think he needs to develop that over time as he matures into a fabulous artist….which I know he will.

Thanks for the link. The story behind the song is extremely sad. It must have been emotionally difficult for David to write the song at such a young age. The beautiful song that Jason wrote after his friend’s suicide is heartbreaking but he was older than Archie at the time.

  • Tatiana

That All Access review was bordering on unprofessional, in my opinion. I don’t know when it became fashionable for music “critics” to battle to see who could tear down an artist, both personally and professionally, the most. And these are the same people who praise the Jonas Brothers? please.

I wouldn’t worry though that these negative reviews are going to hurt David’s sales. The fact that his album IS getting so much attention shows that he already is in another league. Celebrities always get torn down by critics and the media, it’s how they sell magazines. I still think David’s album is going to do extremely well. Just look at how he was styled in that Elle shoot – David is a STAR!

  • IGetCranked

Mac, I understand now. Thank you!

I don’t think the reviews will hurt him that much. Carrie’s first album received negative reviews, Daughtry’s has…that’s just how the critics are. Some will love and some won’t. I think the success of Crush combined with David’s fan base will lead to a successful album.

  • Kris

I agree that reviews aren’t going to hurt the sales of the album. People will use their own opinions to decide whether or not to buy the album, not someone else’s.
