Well, that doesn’t seem like a lot of fanfare. Is this how music videos are announced? (Wondering about publicity/press event?)

Crush moved back up to #11 on itunes.

There was also an add for the crush MV spotted on msn messenger..
Evidently there also was a verizon ad in the Washington Post(thats what I hear) that had crush as one of the songs promo-ed. Next to Natasha Bedingfield and Frank Sinatra. Per pulse.

Crush has been playing all night during the ads for Lincoln Heights (ABC Family). I keep hearing it while I’m on the computer and humming along before I realize it’s David Archuleta.

Actually, Jive seems to have gone all out promoting the video on iTunes. Big front center banner ad on the main page, the music page and the pop page (on the pop page, the banner ad sticks around for a good long time). It’s under “What We’re Watching” on all three pages as well. Notably, that’s more promotion than the single got on iTunes. I think they upped the promotion budget for the song given its success so far.

In the age of Youtube, this is the way a lot of music videos now premiere. TRL used to be the place to premiere videos, and it does so on occasion, but it’s a dying show (literally, it’s being canceled come November). MTV itself doesn’t play videos anymore. The way people view videos now is on youtube, streaming online or they buy them on iTunes. They’re primarily promotional tools. People like the video and they’ll buy the song. I suspect that there may be a behind the scenes look at the making of Crush on Entertainment Tonight tomorrow or sometime this week. ET was there the day they filmed, but we’re not sure when it’ll air (it was supposed to air last week, but didn’t).

It cost me  £1.89.I know pound is devaluing , but…. Why is it more expensive in Europe?

Well, partly because the Pound and the Euro are overvalued on the Big Mac Index (basically, this means that people in the UK and Europe pay more for common goods than Americans) and partly because Apple tries to price things to look affordable in each country. For instance, Canadian iTunes charges the same price for songs as the American iTunes regardless of the exchange rate because $0.99 is priced perfectly for an impulse buy.

BTW an Australian Bank, CommSec has recently started an “iPod Index” to compare Purchasing Power Parity between countries (The Economist publishes the Big Max Index).

Congrats to David on getting his video released. I must say that it looks like Jive spent a few more bucks on it than they did on “Tattoo” (maybe they have gained confidence in spending money on Idols). It certainly looks to cost more than last year’s runner-up’s video (I think that I’ve figured out that Blake’s video cost $25 for ink effects plus one Big Mac Meal for the guy who operated the camera). It’s nice to see the record labels investing a bit in the Idols. I’ve long felt that they fritter away all that great exposure the Idols get on the show by being a bit tight on promoting them. After a few months, the public needs to be re-introduced a little (plus, if you just throw the album/singles out like yesterday’s fish wrapped in newspaper, people aren’t going to want to touch it. Make it look attractive and like a real live album and people might not feel so foolish buying the darn things). Anyway, enough grumbling. The video looks great (and like a kinder/gentler version of a lake party than that in “All Summer Long”…hey, almost 17 million views on YouTube for that one…though, I doubt Archie would ever rhyme “things” with “things”). Does the Disney channel play videos because this thing would be great on there.

Im not certain on the Disney channel thing. I think they play disney artist’s videos but beyond that I havent a clue. LOL

I think Disney Channel usually only plays music videos from bona fide Disney products like Miley and High School Musical (although I swear the Jonas Brothers videos just randomly started appearing there one day and they didn’t seem to have any prior association with Disney at the time). Since David seems to have some Disney connections, I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed it.

Well, I’m not going to buy the Crush video (because what would I do with it?) but I did watch it and agree that its production values are pretty good compared to Jordin’s first video (and yes, especially compared to Blake’s, lol)

I like this video. It totally fits the song and David has already learned the art of killer glances. Who knew he could be such a good actor?

I think it was in the 90′s earlier on the UK itunes also.
(which is kinda weird since the song isnt available there lol)

Oh Lord, the video is cute, but aside from the fact I don’t buy videos . . . the whole little story in it just reminds me why I hated being a teenager. Aaaaagh, always stuck in awkward groups and aaaagh, feeling agonized talking to people you most want to talk to, and aaaagh, overanalyzing every little notes, gesture, and joke and listening to “Crush” like songs over and over and over (we had tapes, then, children).

Kid, I love your music, but Aggh! TeenagerSocializing, get…it…off! It burns!

lmao, elle. The one time I did watch the video, I actually DID wonder about the piano on the pier. I don’t think Crush would have appealed to me at any age. My teen crushes were much more one-sided and tragic – I had to turn to Morrissey. It’s not a bad song, just not my thing.

mac, to defend my honor: David’s eyes are amazing and I say that in complete seriousness. It’s part of the ‘other-worldy’ peaceful aura so many remark on when they meet him. If you had the chance to see them in person you would know exactly what I mean. Not to be trite, but they are pretty “hypnotizing and mesmerizing.” There is nothing inappropriate in my admiration of his eyes. My husband and son mentioned the same thing.

AWWW elle, I like your Top 11 list! I’m buying it. I’m buying it because I have 2 video credits on iTunes because the (#&#@*& video I downloaded of Always Be My Baby won’t play on my iPod. hahahaha. OK…AND I have become something of an Archie fan after seeing him live 3X on the Idol tour, meeting him briefly, and even getting an autograph. He really is pretty amazing. All this and he’s only 17. I wish all the best for him and am looking forward to at least another 10 years of his career!

ETA: Just watched it. I watched on u-tube too but this is much better. He IS adorable. He’s way too young for me to be “attracted” to him (wink wink) THAT way, but he will get older! haha. I thought it was a lovely, sweey video. And he appears pretty comfortable in front of the cameras and such.

He is turning 18 on December 28th, and he sure has grown up a lot since AI. No matter what age you are, you can certainly admire good looks!

I just opened my iTunes. Wow..Crush #1 in 24 hours? It seems David Archuleta has many fans and his fan base has grown a lot. Congrats David!

All that promotion for the video had an effect on the single’s sales as well–it’s back at #10 on iTunes. Although, it’s not just the video that helped–Crush started climbing from #20 all the way up to #11 before the video premiered and those ads were up. The video and the ads just helped to bridge a large gap between the #10 song and the #11 song so that Archie could break into the top 10 again.

Moving back into the top 10 in songs is huge. That means he’s back on the first page of iTunes top songs, which by itself has got to help sales, as people are more likely to buy what they can easily see.

Wow @ all the good news! Last week I was in my car and the local top 9 at 9 was on and he was the number 1 request…. same thing last night. The only two times I’ve heard the show, there he is! LOL I didn’t even know they had been playing him much.

Treated my daughters this morning with Archie’s video. They love me! LOL! They can’t wait for his cd, they are big Jordin fans so I expect even bigger things for him….go David.
