David Archuleta’s debut single “Crush” is now available at iTunes! You can buy the single – just click this link!!! Seriously, If you click the link to buy, you help support the site. Thanks in advance.

I’m downloading the single myself right now…

ETA: Damn. That chorus is insanely catchy!

  • chelley

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Go Archie, GO!!!!

  • Jabkmc

    I’m all verklempt. Go Archie!

  • JudyOhio

I just bought it from your site MJ! I might add that it sounds really good too!

  • primeminister

Is that the most attractive cover they could come up with?

Archie has some tough competition this week with the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato releasing on the same day. And Chris Brown and Taylor Swift releasing just a few days ahead.

    Best of luck to him.

  • sabby_rina

I just bought “Crush” a minute ago. I’ve never bought any thing on itunes before, so this is my first one.

I’m so excited. I hope others will buy it as well to support Archuleta whether your a fan or not…if you like the song that is.

I know I’ll be buying all the idol’s singles whenever they come out. These season 7 idol contestants are quite the talented bunch!

  • gingerly

I’ll wait for the album to come out. I don’t buy singles. I’m just old that way I guess. Not old enough for 45′s but too old for downloading one song…Hopefully you’ll have them available through your site like this, mj.

  • JudyOhio

I don’t like that picture of Cookie on his itunes single either, because we all know he looks a lot better than that picture! Same with Archie, not his best pic on itunes, but we know he is better looking than his picture also. Main thing with both of them is I don’t think it will matter, people are wanting to purchase their stuff! Go D2!!!!!

  • cheese

So, Cook got a passport photo, and Archie gets his 6th grade school picture. Seriously, these are attractive people, what’s up with the photography?

Good luck to Archie. I won’t be buying but I expect to hear the song 123532 times on the radio, so maybe it will grow on me.

  • idolfan86

bought it and i love it! its soooo catchy. damn, this song is going to be stuck in my head for days haha.

    great job, archie!

  • astolat

So, Cook got a passport photo, and Archie gets his 6th grade school picture. Seriously, these are attractive people, whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s up with the photography?

Heee, cheese, I wonder the same thing about the tour costumes, too. And in person they are all SCARILY good-looking, and they’re all pretty photogenic, too. I mean, it’s not like they don’t HAVE better photos of Archie. They could just browse through this blog, for one thing. :>

But, whatever! The song is totally fun, and Cook’s ridiculous photo hasn’t hurt TOML’s sales, clearly, so I think Archie is going to do just fine. (Possibly, to be cynical, this is why 19E apparently spends zero money on photography/design.)

  • Jolene

The picture is actually nice IMHO. What I don’t get is this dreary color background and overall design. It’s just not attractive or yound looking. Are the people who designed his MySpace page responsible? Because that wouldn’t surprise me. LOL

The song is cute. I’m not in the market for teen pop myself, but I expect it to be #1 on iTunes very soon.
    Good luck Archie!

  • RV65

“So, Cook got a passport photo, and Archie gets his 6th grade school picture.”

    Thanks for this post…………….comic relief!!!

  • abbysee

Eh, the picture is not horrible, he’s an attractive kid that’s obvious. I downloaded it earlier. It’s infectious. Good for him.

  • IGetCranked

I just noticed that he has no backing vocals other than himself. He sounds great!

I’m buying another copy and I’ll click your link MJ. I forgot about it tonight.

He has tough competition this week. Wow.

  • vixen

that cover is awful. wtf, jive? oy.

it’s a cute song; not remotely my thing, but i wish him well. it’s certainly better than the jonas brothers. *shrug*

  • sleepyinsomniac

Are all itunes cover arts this bad or is this just limited to Archie and Cook?

  • ggdoorsfan

bravo david… you have done all your fans proud… there appears to be many comments from ppl on the site who have done an about face regarding his ability to have mainstream appeal…. His vocal versatility should stand him in good stead as he matures and continues to grow as an artist…. to those not yet convinced, be patient…. CRUSH is proof that underestimating the “little guy” is not the best thing to do.The depth of his talent is yet to be revealed… Well done, David.

  • soundscene

Are all itunes cover arts this bad or is this just limited to Archie and Cook?

Neither are established hitmakers yet, so I suspect there’s very little budget for good graphic design and amazing photography for debut singles (although I still think Cook’s “debut” single is yet to come). Jordin’s started out pretty bad, IMO, but got better as she started raking in some money.

As for “Crush,” I can’t stop listening to it–and I’m not tired of it yet. lol. It is insanely catchy. The competition this week is very tough, yes, but the Jonas Brothers should actually rank on the Albums chart rather than the singles chart on iTunes. He’ll have some competition with the current top of the singles charts, though, which includes “Burnin’ Up.” Maybe Jive figured this week was a good week because a lot of teenage girls would be spending time on iTunes today and, lo and behold, there’s David Archuleta too. Might as well add him to the pile of downloads.

He may have some competition from Taylor Swift and Chris Brown, too, although both of them have had a little time to settle in. Taylor’s “Change” is currently #11 on the Top Songs chart, and Chris Brown’s “Dreamer” is #53 (is that song just for the Olympics?).

Since it hasn’t had a whole lot of time to build airplay (about a week and a half), I’m thinking he’ll start decently and build from there. I think I figured out why they decided to release the song for sale so soon–apparently several stations won’t play “Crush” until it has some sales and is considered a “Top 40″ hit. It needs to move up Billboard before he can crack those stations’ playlists.

    Thanks for the link, MJ!

  • soundscene

Jonas Brothers’ fans can’t figure out how to “Complete My Album” on iTunes so they’re buying the songs they don’t have individually. That means JB is taking over the singles charts as well. :rolleyes_tb: After 5 hours, “Crush” is #44 on the Top Pop Songs chart on iTunes. Needs to move up about 10 spots or so to make the Top 100 Songs chart, but those JB songs are in the way. It’s doing better than Demi Lovato’s single “Get Back” (#57 in Pop), which is the only other major single release today, except Kristy Lee’s “15 Minutes of Shame” which doesn’t seem to be getting much promotion, sadly.

  • gerreb

I bought it! And I can’t stop listening to it! :)

  • mrcritic1980

It’s already #58 in the Top Songs chart.

  • JudyOhio

soundscene and mrcritic……where are you seeing these charts? Do you have a link? I clicked on your link soundscene, and it just took me to a lot of lines of print.

  • jpfan

The most current chart for Top 100 Songs:
    US iTunes
    http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net….mit=120/rss.xml

It shows up as #39 (ahead of all the new Jonas Bros. singles) on Top Songs currently. For some reason, it’s much lower on Top Pop songs (scratches head in confusion.)
This may show up as lines of print on some computers. Just go to iTunes.com and check out the music store if the links don’t work.

  • jpfan

Oops, not ahead of all the new Jonas Bros
    singles. :)

The top charting idol on iTunes is Jordin Sparks with her third single. She’s turning into the stealth Idol winner for singles domination. Who would have predicted that a year ago? It’ll be interesting to compare Tattoo and Crush.

  • sleepyinsomniac

Hey, I just learned how to do this! Those who want to track how the single (and other idols’ singles as well) is charting in itunes, you can go here

    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/wa/MRSS/rssGeneratorInput

and create your RSS feed. Currently, Crush is number 39 on all itunes and 19 on the pop charts. It might have difficulty getting the number 1 spot because of the dominant Jonas Brothers whose new single (released the same day as Crush) is 10 on all itunes and 5 on the pop chart. Their other single is currently doing well too so it might be an uphill fight for Archie.

  • Kirsten

Odd. They normally wait until the single has a bit of time to build up airplay. “Crush” is doing well on airplay, but it’s only been out just over a week. Normally, they give it a couple of weeks to build up demand (that tends to cause dramatic climbs up iTunes and Hot 100 charts). Well, they are the professionals. LOL.

From Pulse, here are the big releases:

    -Jonas Brothers album
    -Demi Lovato single
    -Archuleta single – “Crush”
-Taylor Swift Olympic single advertised on front page
-Kristy Lee Cook’s “15 Minutes of Shame”

  • jpfan

Kristen, it is unusual to drop the single so quickly on iTunes. It had no advance promo there at all. I think Jive decided to piggyback on the Jonas Bros. release.
Holding back on the single on iTunes is a common ploy. They wait until a song is already a huge airplay hit and then release it. It usually goes to #1 in a day and hits the Hot 100 as well. But maybe that kind of “event” release makes more sense for an AI winner. Jive appears to be going for the teen market pronto. Well, it worked for Jordin.

Did Tattoo go to iTunes on the same day it went for radio adds?

  • idolbeat

Kristy’s single isn’t shown as a new release under the new releases on itunes. You have to search by her name to find it. Am I the only KLC fan here?

    Great job Archy!

  • Suzanne

I know–the cover art is awful. Dead-in-the-eyes graduation picture. Horrible color on the jacket. Awful.

It’s a great song. I’ll link thru this site when I get home and download it.

I love how MJ supports all the idols. I always check here to see what’s going on quickly. Thx MJ.

Oh–btw–there’s a casting call for models for the Crush video, being shot in Atlanta on August 19. The casting call is for tomorrow in Atlanta. If you’re 18 to 21 and can go there, go over to davidarchuletafanblast.com to see the call and the link. (doesn’t specify, but if you’re small, adorable and high-school looking, I think that might be a bonus.)

  • Duke

    *clicks mjs link*
Great song. i hope this becomes a hit. i really do think it will happen.

  • tinawina

I bought it! Good luck Archie. :thumbup_tb:

  • Kirsten

Did Tattoo go to iTunes on the same day it went for radio adds?

No. It was over a month later. The Single was released to radio in mid August (wasn’t it to coincide with the teen choice awards or something). For some reason, I’m thinking it went for official adds on the 23rd (and was released a bit earlier).

The single didn’t go up on iTunes until September 25th.

I think that your theory about piggy-backing on the Jonas Brothers is probably correct. Get the teens when they are in a buying frenzy (though, it will make it harder to get to the top of iTunes). Between the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift and Archie releasing today, it’s teen day at iTunes. LOL.

  • mrcritic1980

i hope this becomes a hit. i really do think it will happen.

It’s already #29 on iTunes and it’s been only a few hours since it’s official release. It’s happening. :)

  • AInoob

I absolutely expect this song to become a hit for Archie. He’s doing remarkably well already considering who he’s up against (inexplicable to me, but those Jonas Brothers are uberhot right now) and I think his label was savvy in releasing his first single the same day as some of the teen sensations. Best of luck to Archie!

  • ggdoorsfan

I just purchased a copy from AMAZON as well… the sound quality is Great!

  • jpfan

Thanks Kristen for the Tattoo info. Add Chris Brown to the teen iTunes invasion. He’s only 19 years old (believe it or not).

BTW, I tried to buy the single through the link here but it doesn’t work for me. :(

  • http://mjsbigblog.com lucyfan

Thanks for the link, MJ. I will be downloading through this site.
    Yay Archie!! :clap_tb:

  • frogcooke
  • soundscene

It may not make it to #1 because of the short amount of airplay, but decent, steady sales as airplay increases still gives you a nice sales number overall. And I think that’s what Jive is going for (plus that whole teen synergy thing on iTunes). I don’t think Jive expects “Crush” to shoot to #1 with a week and a half of airplay, but it’s doing really great at #12 after a half a day.

  • carolinagirl

I bought it and love it. So catchy. Hopefully, Jive will guide David to a long, productive career. He deserves it. What an enourmous talent he is!

  • jjkes

It’s already #12 on the ITunes Top 100? And it’s still quite early! I have a feeling this will be a very successful single for David A. What a stud.

  • ianamy

This computer is not working for me. I will have to use another one to buy it.

David is nominated for Left-hander of the year today, up against Obama, Jolie, etc. Today is his day. I posted the link at headlines.

  • KrazeeK120

OMG I just bought the song. I only did it to help MJ’s site, I swear!!

Oh, who am I kidding…I like the song. I can’t believe I actually like an Archie song. What is happening to me?? :help_tb:

  • Kirsten

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think Jive expects à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Crushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to shoot to #1 with a week and a half of airplay, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing really great at #12 after a half a day.

That is quite impressive. Remember, the iTunes chart is a rolling one so most of the other songs on the list have more sales days contributing to the chart (iTune watchers on Pulse think the rolling window is 3 or 4 days).

Now, you may say that it’s an AI release so it should shoot up fast, but this isn’t like the songs that were played on the show which had a preview audience of 30 million. This is a single dropped in the middle of summer with relatively little fanfair (compare to the big releases that they get in the fall with their CDs and they end up on every talk show on TV). And he hasn’t got the lead time on the radio that most singles get. The only people who really know about it are people on the AI forums (and Nigel tells us that is a small sub-set of crazies compared to the real AI viewers…thanks Nigel, you jerk!) and listeners to Z100 (which is a farely substantial and respected group of buyers).

  • jpfan

I’m not completely surprised that Archie has a potential hit on his hands. The people who thought he could only do soppy ballads must have not believed Randy when he said the great singers can do anything. It was the same deal with Elliott.
When you got the chops plus the r&b vibe, you can get the Top 40 hits.

  • maturin

Regarding the quick move from Z100 airwaves to iTunes, I’m guessing one of the issues is that the producers–FINALLY–are realizing how fast online consumption of music is cannibalizing physical CD sales.

As it is, the release of “Crush” seemed to be an awkward mix of old and new thinking.

The old world of music promotion: when you have a really marketable story about a record, get the song into the hands of radio stations before you get it into stores, get your singer on TV and into magazines, etc., to build up suspense. Tease it. Draw it out. That way, when you begin selling the record, you’ve built up pent-up demand, hopefully sales take off fast, and you get a story to market: “It’s the fastest-selling x ever!”

I think we’re coming out of an interim period when companies tried this same older strategy with iTunes.

The big, big problem is that in 2008, there is literally zero difference between broadcasting something on radio, and seeing it appear as a free digital copy available online. As soon as “Crush” was on the air, even on a single radio station, the easy tools are there for amateurs to capture and put it out there on the web for free as a MP3, and from there, for it to begin spreading onto people’s iPods.

Mind you, this is not “piracy” as the RIAA imagines it. The folks doing this are fans, just dying to hear the song and spread the word. They’re not selling music. Their primary goal is not to save a buck but to listen, love and share the music.

Only, the radio is NOT their primary way of doing this. They’re not going to sit around waiting for that record to get spun by the DJ. They hear it, love it, they want to play it over and over, and they want to do it while mobile, because for them, music is always portable.

The recording industry can then try to chase down those unauthorized copies, but the best bet is just to make the tune available for legal digital sale right away.

For some older acts with large, established audiences who have a pre-built in appetite for buying entire albums and who still listen largely to CDs–a U2, say–a few MP3s floating around of a new single might not make much difference to their overall sales.

But Archie’s target audience, the iPod IS music. My teen age nieces barely own any CDs except mixes , used among friends to swap favorites—almost all their listening and all their purchases are for their ‘Pods. And as for browsing, word of mouth, and marketing–iTunes IS the record store. They never set foot at the physical one in the all. Not on iTunes = not available.

A new pop artist, especially going for the teen idol market, who is overwhelmingly dependent on single sales, is in bigger danger of seeing those sales droop and get cannibalized by free digital copies if they don’t make a legal way to buy that hot single online available right away.

I think for almost all artists, the days are over where it worked to treat broadcast radio and physical record shops as the primary medium and the online world as secondary.

Record companies: the first time you play the song, it should be available for sale online. You can sell them a copy today, or they can go get a free one.

Even if that messes with your storyline, your past years of experience in which you massaged and managed and controlled how songs rolled out. You don’t have that luxury anymore, because you don’t have the control. The listener does.

I did go buy my copy of Crush on the ‘Tunes, using the mj’s link natch.

  • hollygo9

congrats, Archie fans, he’s up to #7 on iTunes as of lunchtime.

  • cheese

I’m not at all surprised that Archie is doing so well, although I do think that most of today’s sales are attributed to AI fans and not radio play. I would expect it to hit number one, drop a bit, and go back up once it officially goes for adds. If there are just 15-20,000 Archie fans buying it today (and you know some are buying multiple copies just . . . because), then it should definitely go to #1 before the day is out. Plus, anyone who opens iTunes today will know about the single when they see Archie’s face. I don’t remember iTunes ads for other Idols’ pre-album singles, but I could just be mis-remembering.

I don’t see this song as quite reaching the levels of Bleeding Love, No Air, Leavin’, etc. but I think he’ll at least have a top 10 radio hit and many more to follow.

  • tinawina

It should reach #1 or close to it today, because that what AI fanbases do. That’s the main advantage to placing 1st or 2nd on Idol… you should be able to open with a bang. And win every online poll you’re involved with. And get every negative article about you vigorously flamed. LOL. So yeah. The question is, will he keep selling downloads after the next couple of days? He should, but you never know. I will be shocked if he doesn’t have a hit on his hands though.

Oh and maturin, thanks for that post. That was an interesting read!

  • davidaforlife

maturin, you pretty much hit the nail in the head with that post. I agree completely.

It won’t make as big of a first week hit on the Hot 100 releasing it on iTunes early, but it surely will sell more copies overall from fewer people downloading rips.

  • abbysee

    Go David!

  • shell29

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not at all surprised that Archie is doing so well, although I do think that most of todayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sales are attributed to AI fans and not radio play.

Definately, especially considering the song really hasn’t impacted radio yet. The bulk of first day sales usually come from the AI fanbase. However, I do think Crush will be just as successful as No Air once radio airplay picks up nationwide. I will be very surprised if Crush isn’t a big hit for Archie.

  • Kirsten

A new pop artist, especially going for the teen idol market, who is overwhelmingly dependent on single sales, is in bigger danger of seeing those sales droop and get cannibalized by free digital copies if they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make a legal way to buy that hot single online available right away.

You make a very good point. People have been commenting about the large amount of singls the Jonas Brothers dropped prior to their album release (most albums just drop 1 or 2 release singles). Some people were joking that they would release the entire album as singles before the album dropped. Jonas Brothers are obviously also targeted towards teens, so this may be the new strategy that is developing. It makes it harder to dominate the Hot 100, but it does reduce the the excuses for illegally downloading (i.e. people can’t excuse illegally downloading to themselves by saying they just have to have it, but it’s not legally available and they will buy when it is legally available, but by then, they don’t want it anymore. LOL).

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember iTunes ads for other Idolsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ pre-album singles, but I could just be mis-remembering.

I remember seeing some (although, it is only recently that they even do pre-album singles for AIers. They used to release the single the week or just after the album dropped. In some cases, they waited until as much as 3 months post-album to release a single. Clive used to think that it was unnecessary to “waste” money on doing pre-album single releases). I seem to recall “Tattoo” had an iTune ad and didn’t “TOML” get one too? I’m pretty sure Kat got one as well. They seem to be opening up the purse strings on single promotion.

  • IGetCranked

He reached number 2 in Pop and 4 over all now.
I’m so happy for him! I hope once this rush of fan buying is over , the general public will embrace him as well. These numbers should help him get added to radio stations.

  • ggdoorsfan

David has delivered an amazing first single to his fans, and the public. It is rhythmic, David’s superior vocals soar and are identifiable throughout, has a catchy beat.. Hey-> I watched lotsa American Bandstand back in the day. :smile1_tb:
His older fans like me find themselves humming along unconsciously, and the verses transport the listener back to those bygone days of school girl and schoolboy CRUSHES… It has an appeal across a very broad spectrum of listeners, and should effectively silence the detractors and critics who didn’t believe he had mainstream appeal. CRUSH is the catapult for David to continue his growth and evolution as an artist – I ANTICIPATE MANY MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING MUSIC FROM HIM. TAKE A BOW DAVID… YOU’VE ARRIVED.

  • brewster

Crush is a great first release for David. I really like this kid, he has a great voice and seems to be a really good guy. Looking forward to the first album. This kid may just go all the way.

  • elle

Hey Cookies – I’ll buy yours if you buy mine? :bye_tb:

Seriously, way to go Archie! What a fun day! I’m so happy for him.

  • AInoob

LOL, elle I think that theory may have been at work with the Teen Choice Awards, I remember seeing a few posts and a youtube video along the lines of you help mine and I’ll help yours :biggrin_wp:

I may be a fan of Cook’s but I’m very proud of Archie, I wish him tons of success – and I definitely believe he’ll achieve it.

  • frogcooke

it just hit #3 on overall itunes top 100 songs

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

I’m also a fan of Cook’s who just bought Crush. It’s a very catchy addictive song and I think Archie has a hit on his hands with this song.

    Go Archie! :smile_wp:

  • JudyOhio

As of right now, 5:40 pm EST, DA is on the front page at #2 on itunes Top 100. I think that is #2 in pop also, above JB.

  • JudyOhio

I think it’s #2 on the pop chart, which shows on the front page. I don’t know where the overall one is, lol. I usually rely on kirsten for those things, lol.

  • frogcooke

He’s showing as #3 overall and #2 on the pop chart

  • abbysee

Wow, I thought it would do well, but not this well. Imagine how big his smile must be right now. He must be a bit nervous too, cause this is a big deal now. He isn’t just Star Search David anymore. I think radio play will come since the sales have…..watch out Disturbia!

  • idolfan86

he’s #1 now!!! OMG, this is amazing! go archie!

  • ggdoorsfan

Can U IMAGINE (haha) how he’s feelin’ now? A shy, sometimes awkward seeming kid from Murray Utah has a song sitting atop I-tunes? Love him or not, that deserves some propz….

  • abbysee

Yes! This is incredible and awesome and wonderful and so many other superlatives that I would love to add!

Congratulations David. What an incredible day this must be for you.

  • sabby_rina

It took only less than 24 hours to get his single up to number 1 on itunes!

    Oh happy day!

  • frogcooke

I hope he found out relatively soon after it happened lol

  • ggdoorsfan

ARCHIE NATION has to be growing….. dunno, but it’s all good! :clap_tb:

  • ianamy

    Someone better tell him, NOW!

  • proudmom

So how exactly does itunes ratings system work? David is currently #1 (hooray!!!) and I assume that means #1 for today, or is that #1 sales for a certain period (part or all of a week?) or what?

  • JudyOhio

An hour has passed now and it’s still holding at #1, so far so good.

  • davidaforlife

we don’t know exactly how long the period is. But I’ve heard speculation that it’s a few days.

  • ggdoorsfan

    Posted in another forum:

For some perspective, guys…. when David’s finale recordings were released on iTunes, they were just barely in the Top 10…… so we know it’s not just his core AI fans buying Crush. This is huge.”

SO freaking happy for David!!! #1 on his first day out with his 1st single–I LOVE it! I MUST see a youtube of his reaction…….

Well, the song isn’t my thing, but I bought it to help the little dude out. Guess he didn’t need it. :-) I doubt I’ll buy his album. I’ll listen and then decide.

I still think the Idol fans put it at #1. But at least he kept the fanbase for the first single. Jive picked just the right song. I also think Archie is a very charming kid. The shy, awkward personality is working for not against him.

  • Mackie

Im so happy for Archie for making it No.1 at Itunes. I just hope it would beat Kate Perry’s I Kissed A Girl!! staying at No. 1 weeks. That would be a miracle and the would also be awesome if it does happen!!! hehhehhee..just living my dreams!!!

  • http://mjsbigblog.com lucyfan

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m also a fan of Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s who just bought Crush. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a very catchy addictive song and I think Archie has a hit on his hands with this song.

    Go Archie!

Wow – so much fun to see all the support for Archie! I’ve been a fan of Archie’s from the beginning, but I have to say I have grown to be a big Cook fan as well. When Cook’s first single is released, I’ll buy it as eagerly as I bought Archie’s today. So proud of our boys! Go D2!! :thumbup_tb:

  • abbysee

Jpfan, yep idol fans put him here, but I think that with NY radio Z100 playing him the way they are, he’s been number 1 at noon and at 9 a few times since it’s debut 10 days ago. This in itself is big. Once the west coast counterpart gets in sync, and the video hits, I think we are gonna see whether it has legs or not.

I think so far all the planets are in alignment. The midsummer release of the perfect song for teens and nostalgic older fans, and considering the fact that it’s had little fanfare outside of the internet idol fans……if that is any indication, I think this could be huge……

  • ealbino

Congratulations David on your first No. 1! Woo hooooooo.. We are proud of you!! :clap_tb:

I’m so excited and happy for him! :jittery_tb:

Outselling the new songs by the Jonas Bros, Taylor Swift and Chris Brown with your first single ain’t too shabby. So a pretty awesome accomplishment no matter what.

Jonas who? Swift? Someone Brown? I don’t seem to recognize those names. Were they popular yesterday or something? :lol_wp:

When I pulled up my i-tunes and saw his little picture with the number 1, I have to admit my eyes welled up a bit. Gawd, I’m such a moron.

  • abbysee

Itunes hates me today, it refuses to open for me period. I am glad that I purchased early in the AM or I would be pissed. I would really enjoy seeing for my own eyes, his face as I open the page. Oh well, this prolly won’t be the first time.

Ladies, get ahold of yourselves……imagine when his full length cd comes. Imagine the pandemonium! What a ride this is going to be.

  • JudyOhio

DA was #1 on Z100 NY at noon, and just now #1 on Z100 NY 9 @ 9. So far, looks like NYers are lovin’ him.

Congratulations Archies, your boy did well. I cant believe I really like this song – he is just growing and growing on me, this diehard Castro/Cook/MJ fan. It is just the right song to get him out there. My kids love it and I sure do like it. I really think this is going to be the hit he needs to bring him more fans than just those (oh only a few million and I say just) Idol fans that loved him on the show.

  • ggdoorsfan

WHEW!!! For someone totally excoriated on AI, as well as in the media, for having no “mainstream appeal”, #1 on I-Tunes is OUTSTANDING, if not ironic, wouldn’t we think? Those of us Archies who see a little “further on down the road” with him are celebrating tonight, but aren’t going to get so caught up in “the numbers game”. Time is on David’s side. We who support him know this, understand it, and are willing to watch, wait and give him the space to grow. The biggest joy is in knowing that we will have many years of seeing David blossom and gain all the critical and commercial recognition he deserves. Yes Virginia, nice guys do sometimes finish 1st.… Good night to all – Tomorrow is another day!!! :bye_tb:

  • sleepyinsomniac

This is why them people at Jive get paid the big bucks. Initially I had thought that releasing on the same day as JoBros and Taylor Swift was not going to help Archie but the synergy thing totally worked and brilliantly I must say. Not only did the fanbase fuel sales, the average teen non fan who was buying JoBros wouldve seen the single and bought it too. And im betting the same thing with those who were on itunes for Taylor Swift. Brilliant strategy Jive very well played. Congratulations David Archuleta.

  • RV65

“Well, the song isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t my thing, but I bought it to help the little dude out.”

Kudos PJ!!! Its nice to read these kinds of posts…………

    #4 on amazon

  • JudyOhio

Finally, itunes front page matches for Archuleta when you click the arrow for the full list of pop downloads. Archuleta now shows #1 on both, front page and expanded. (Before, for some reason, on the larger list he showed #3…but now #1).

Oh….ETA….I guess the bad picture didn’t hurt a thing, lol

Btw he’s #3 on canadian itunes #2 in pop

    David thanking fans

Oh hell, I’ve been enjoying the day, and enjoying Davids foray into the pop music charts, smiling and all that…then I watch this freaking video…..he wants to make his fans proud, *tears*. Crap!

  • E

I’m soooo proud of him! Go Archie! May he stay on top for a long time! I did not expect it to do so well in such a short time. Is Jive doing some kind of experiment? No advance promo except for the Z100 world premiere, and releasing on the same with the big names.. let’s throw him at the deep end and see if he survives? Is this the new trend? Has this been done before? Wonder how long he will stay at #1? It’s going to be interesting tracking Crush success. Congratts David Archuleta!

  • Skylark

I am just overwhelmed with happiness for him.
    Congratulations, David!!

  • Kris

It is interesting that Jive decided to release it for sell before the adds date and only after it has been playing on the radio for a week and a half. It paid off though.

  • s0x_prisoner

Congrats David! What great news! :D

No one will see this and I am sure no one will care but yes, I come here first thing, before work and I just had to say I woke up this morning and the chorus of a song was running thru my head and I couldnt figure it out, what the heck song is it – Oh lordy – it was Crush… hmmm – i havent listened to it in a couple of days or heard it on the radio, just sayin it was weird cuz usually is is something Jasonish

  • proudmom

Ha ha! Yes sumidol, the song is indeed catchy. Isn’t it just crazy how the tune wraps itself around your brain and won’t let go? :happy_tb:

From another forum – credit to AIFan7829

As Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure most of you have seen, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Crushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ has a very good chance of debuting at #1 on the Hot 100 next week (if you havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t – check out those threads). I know that everyone thinks it would be cool if the single debuted at #1, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think most people realize how significant this is and the impact that it would have. This would be ONLY non-coronation single from an Idol contestant to EVER hit #1 on the Hot 100, let alone debut at #1 on the Hot 100. Kelly, Clay, Fantasia, Carrie, and Taylor all hit #1 with their coronation songs. But none of them ever hit #1 on the Hot 100 again. I know that is probably surprising, especially with Kelly since she had so many pop hits, but none of her non-coronation songs (à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Since U Been Gone,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Breakaway,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ etc.) ever hit #1 on the Hot 100. And Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Airà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hit #1 either – it peaked at #3.

A debut at #1 would not only be the best non-coronation debut for a former Idol contestant, but it would be the best chart position EVER for a non-coronation single. This is huge. This would be the most successful Idol debut and chart position ever – and he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even win the title.

Also, brand new artists donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t debut at #1 on the Hot 100 with their first single. It may have happened at some point, but I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think of an example. At the very least, it is very, very rare. A #1 debut would be huge. The whole music world will take notice. This is honestly a career maker for him. This will end, here and now, any real debate over whether he is marketable and can succeed in the current music world. This is really big guys. But to keep things in perspective, a #2 debut will probably have pretty much the same effect anyway (but #1 would sound and be so much better).

Can U believe this – we may be witnessing history in the making…

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

This is nothing to ya’ll but very big for me, I got some ladies at my work, my cynical – Archie is boring, cant stand him ladies – to listen to this song with an open mind and they really liked it. Yay – I cant believe I am going to bat for this goofy kid. I love the relationship he and Jason share though, so , yeah that helped push me in his direction a bit too.

  • ggdoorsfan

I can’t help it… been a goner w/ Archie since the night he “took me to church” (old Southern term for really getting down and BRINGING IT when singing a song!) on Top 24 nite w/ SHOP AROUND…. I knew that young man had it, and my faith hasn’t wavered.. What a heck of a week! Tell ya – won’t be any sleep in Archie land 2 nite….
