David Archuleta Christmas Album Available for Pre-Order

i like it. i like the simplicity of the cover, the lack of cliched xmas imagery and frou frou that could detract from david’s head shot… his gaze draws you in, and captures his youthful side perfectly. depending on the setting, he photographs both youthfully and maturely – more maturely in concert settings. for a christmas cd cover, not bad. can’t wait to hear some snippets before the 10/13 release

I like it too. I think it is absolutely David. His eyes are stunning– there is no fakeness about this cover and so what if he does look young–he is. Have a great day all.

Perfect! The cover captures the essence of David. I agree that some folks may think he looks very young, but heck – he is only 19 and has always looked young for his age. Beautiful cover and I’m quite sure a beautiful album. I can’t wait to hear it – will certainly be buying it.

If I was to be perusing the Christmas CD bin at my local retailer this cover would not get me to pick it up and check out what is contained on the CD or anything about David Archuleta. It’s pretty drab, he looks like he’s 12 (beautiful or not), and it just doesn’t have, for me, the brab ya affect.

I’ll figure out if I’m going to buy it depending on what it sells for and if the songs have any new twists on the old standards.

I’m a sucker for Christmas music and these songs will sound awesome from him, so you can bet I’ll probably end up owning this.

scavullo or leibowitz quality it’s not, but for a christmas cd cover – it serves its purpose, hehe. good promo can help overcome whatever deficiencies the cover may lack… he’s rumored to have some in the pipeline for xmas in support of the cd, so i’m content to let david sing, and sell david to the masses – bring it on

I love Archie’s voice so I think he will do a beautiful job with this Christmas album. I also think he is a very handsome kid but in this photo he looks 12….sigh. I’ve seen some recent pictures of him that are really nice, so I can’t believe this is the best they had. Oh well, who cares… the music is sure to be lovely.

Oy, I don’t think this is the right look for him at all. It reminds me of Andy Williams Xmas specials. Why can’t they do something even remotely contemporary for this kid? I get that he’s singing traditional tunes, but does it have to be so generic looking? This cover makes Josh Groban’s Noel look edgy!

I dunno, maybe they were going for a retro look, but it just looks dweeby to me. Hopefully those looking to buy another Xmas album by somebody who can actually, you know, sing will give it a try, or lots of little girls will swoon in the check-out line and beg their moms to buy it for the face alone.

I think my big problem is it looks unfinished and kinda cheaply made. For a casual person browsing I dont think it has that, ‘Oh hey whats this? I wonder whats on this cd and if its good..’ quality. Doesnt really grab you. Or at least not to me.

Ive poked through cds before and picked up ones with nice covers and looked to see what it was. Granted I may not of purchased it(because I hardly by music) But I did look, and sometimes thats all it takes for a casual buyer poking through music. But then again maybe Im super picky about this kind of thing.

Glad Archie got his cover. it looks especially nice at the Amazon site and in Malaysia so far. I like it! His eyes are mesmerizing and I think it will definitely stand out in the CD sales racks. Funny I didn;t think of him looking young or like an elf. Did I mention those eyes. I’ve ordered 10 copies so far and will be gifting a lot. i heard him sing live and last year when he sang many christmas songs accapella as an encore at the Jingle Balls. Today he is taping at the Alma awards. he will be singiing and is up for an award. Haooy Holidays!!!!!!!

I was debating whether to get the actual CD or just download songs I like. After seeing the cover photo I’m definitely downloading. Jive better come up with something good for David’s studio album cover next year, because I think this Christmas CD photo = big fail. I’m really excited for this CD. I don’t usually buy Christmas music but I think…no, I know that this will be beautfully done. And I like the cover….David looks adorable! But I think it’s the music inside that really counts!

It’s a really poor cover. Seems like it’s made either for kids or 60+.
David is cute and he photographs well, but the fake snow and the font are really poor choices. A fan would make a better cover.
When you see this in the store it’s hard to take it serious and think there will be good music inside if they didn’t even bother to use something better than paint to design the cover.

Having said that, what really matters is the music and I’m sure this will be one of the most well sang Christmas albums.

Jive Records is so shockingly cheap. So cheap. It’s incredible. David is adorable but he looks like a little boy here. The shot is WAY TOO close, and the elfin grin instead of a warm “join me for a warm apple cider by the fire” smile? And are you kidding me with the snowflakes and that’s it? Graphics like that come free with every wordprocessing program. No background at all!! Was it impossible to put him in a winter scene or in an interior with candles or a hearth or a fireplace or something beyond a scarf? The font is Ye Olde England, so a Dickensian background would work, and people love that ambiance at holiday time.

God. So cheap. Are they just performing the bare minimum of their contractual obligations and riding it out until they don’t renew? Frankly, this is a company that does not want to make money with David.

Of course they do. If there’s no obligation for Jive to release David’s recordings for sale, then that would be a completely one-sided contract–invalid and unenforceable. It’s more likely that there are conditions on the release that David must fulfill, including a consultation requirement for comment by the label. But it cannot be that David makes recordings and then Jive releases them or not based solely on its own discretion. If the contract binds David from releasing recordings though some other label, which it undoubtedly does, then there must be a reciprocal obligation required of Jive (release and promote recordings). If David and the label disagree about releasing a recording, then there’s probably a dispute resolution procedure. And then, if unsuccessful, a judicial remedy. It cannot be that Jive decides and that’s it.

the cover is what it is – it’s moved up 100 slots on amazon in pre orders since it was revealed yesterday, so take that however you will… amazon does represent a small slice of the pie sales wise, but i take it as a sign there will be no people throwing up their hands – and running screaming out of vendors upon seeing it on the shelves at christmas

It’s certainly no worse than the awful cover they chose for Jordin’s second album! I fear for what they do to Kris and Allison.

He will be 19 years old this December. But he looks more like 12. I can’t wait to hear the album. I’m really excited about his duet with Charice. She is so awesome.

Speaking for myself, I actually think covers can be art. And it’s a shame some labels don’t care for that. They should be trying to find ways for people to buy the hard copies, good covers are the first step.
You don’t even need photoshop to do this one. I love album covers and I think if well done they can be awesome and they can make you look at them even if you wouldn’t know the artist.
Of course I’ll be buying the album even if I don’t like the cover, that is not what I’m saying. But they should put a little more effort into it.
Also, with Christmas albums I think many people go looking for that music during November/December in stores. And they probably won’t give a chance to a cover like this, it looks like an album released 10 years ago designed by the 12 years old kid in the cover.

It’s not just Jive, I don’t remember many idol’s covers I’ve liked. The latest Carrie one is probably the best I’ve seen in years. But at least those seem made in photoshop, as bad as they are.

Kelly’s Breakaway cover I absolutely hate and I remember it getting trashed as well when it first hit. Mmm yeah LOL Its inside that counts!

I am not crazy about the cover except his beautiful green eyes. But then have you ever been satisfied with any covers of idol alumni albums? Don’t be surprised when upcoming albums of season 8 disappoint you.

I didn’t like Josh Groban’s Noel cover. His face looked weird, but I bought the album because of his rich and gorgeous voice. However, the only song I loved on his album was “I will be home for Christmas” which will be on David’s album, too.

Every year, my family buys a Christmas album and writes down the year on CD so that we can remember. It’s our family tradition. My family knows this year what CD will be purchased. I really want to hear a song with a full 72 pieces of orchestra on the album. Can’t wait!

If I wanted good cd covers, I wouldn’t be purchasing one from an American Idol contestant. Notoriously bad doesn’t begin to explain how bad I think most of them are. Blake, Jordin, Kelly’s Breakaway, Cook’s, all really bad. Does that hinder fans from purchasing. Hell to the no.

If someone hears Archie sing, and decides to purchase the cd, they won’t turn back because of the cover being ‘badly’ done, or that he looks 12 (he really doesn’t, I have a 12 year old…..). It’s just a bunch of angsting until the music drops. If that is badly done, or sounds 12 then I will worry. Until then, I am just gonna enjoy the pretty eyed boy, and get on with things.

how many people would give their right arms to look ”12” at 18 or 19, than 25/26/27 looking a beat down and broke down 50, lololol… i see his youthful appearance now and going forward as a plus – pop music and culture thrives on the superficiality of ”youthfulness”, and the illusion of it, so if he holds onto these youthful looks, it’s a positive in my book… we know he’s got a solid foundation of real talent undergirding the looks, so he’s ahead of the game in pop…

If you say so. But as far as I’ve ever known, the record company contracts an artist for their exclusive services for X amount of albums, and it is up to the label how many recordings are made. They agree to front the money, the artist agrees to record and promote the resulting singles/albums and pay back the label’s investment out of their own royalites. If the label does not want to front the cash, no recordings are made and no subsequent albums are released. If what you say is true, then no label could drop an artist without recording/releasing as many albums as they have options, and we all know that is not true. Unless there is something I am missing.

I agree with you in that a good cover can attract attention and help brand an artist (and the music) well. But we disagree on whether it’s vital. To me its like the cherry on the sundae… its a tasty extra that adds more to the experience, but it’s not needed for the sundae to turn out well. Now if he looked horrible to the point it was a turn off I’d be concerned, but here he’s clearly recognizable as David Archuleta and it fits his wholesome sweet image. It’s not high art or anything, it may even be a tad corny, but that’s kind of his image anyway… corny in a sweet way. So whatever.

Now don’t get me started on the abomination that is Jordin’s cover. LOL. Pretty girl that sold them tons of singles and they can’t even treat her like a star. How do you want people to think she’s a big deal if everything you put out on her looks cheap? Ugh. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to make a decent cover that doesn’t detract from someone’s image. Ugh, cheap ass Jive.

The best I thought David ever looked was in that AOL (?) live session video, where he had on a tie and a jacket IIRC. He actually looked his age there and I, frankly, was a little shocked at how sexy he looked.

He looks slightly younger than my 14-year-old here, however. Although it looks like his hair may be thinning a bit. Given all the sh*t Cook gets for his thinning hair, I hope Archie is prepared for those comments to start shortly. Fortunately for him, he has a normal-sized head, so he can go the shaved head route if he needs to.

Actually the fans have been making cd covers for the album before the actual cover had come out ROFL. There are alot of really really nice ones using existing pics. A lot of them could do a better job than those monkeys working for jive or who ever is in charge of everyones sucky covers lol

sorry….but hell to tha NO! this cover does NOTHING to reflect (or preface or foreshadow) what’s inside, which is glorious and stunning lyrical takes on christmas classics. would it have killed them to put a LITTLE thought into the styling here…i mean, c’mon, i love Archie a TON, but a little manscaping goes a looong way, if ya know what i’m sayin’. Well, I can’t say that I’m surprised about the cover. A simple background change (to a darker color or some texture) would have done wonders. It would make it look less childish and more classy. I think the album cover is great– the white background against David’s coloring with the red and green letters for Christmas and the muted green that really brings out his gorgeous wide eyes, plus the muted smile! Perfect!

I don’t think his hair is thinning. It is common to have hair thinned on purpose for certain styles, and I am sure that is that case.

Oh, it’s on! Last night, American Idol second-place finisher David Archuleta announced the details of his upcoming Christmas album, Christmas From the Heart, to be released October 13. Which is funny, since Bob Dylan’s similarly titled Christmas in the Heart is set to arrive in stores the exact same day. Archuleta’s CD will include thirteen classic holiday jams angelically intoned over funky urban beats. Dylan’s will feature a crotchety elderly person raspily recounting firsthand memories of Jesus’s birth, backed by accordion (samples of the album were posted to Amazon yesterday, but were quickly removed). How will consumers discern between these practically identical records? Which legendary music-biz titan will move more units? Will the loser retire in shame? Christmas just got competitive.

It’s a Christmas CD, they weren’t gonna spend time making a classic work of art out of it. At the same time, I’m happy there aren’t cheesy Dickensian fireplaces in the background. Archie looks cute, there are no purple space unicorns in the background, I think it’s all good.

I just wish they had taken care the CD cover reflects the feel of the music. The contents will far outshine the cover.

Then again, David has always had an elfish quality about him:) And I do like how his beautiful self is the focus of the cover.
