That’s cool. How many albums does one have to sell to go GOLD or Platinum? And…is it good or bad that it took almost a year to hit gold? Do most albums hit gold?

Well, he technically sold gold back in January (I believe) during / immediately after the Holiday rush. After that, the album pretty much died. However, achieving gold status is quite the feat during these times so congratulations to Archie for that.

Do most albums hit gold?

No.

I believe the actual sales figures are around 712K units. The album came out in early November 08, so it’s been out only 7.5 mos (not 1 year).

David’s album sold gold (500K copies) in the last week of December 2008. It’s sold over 700, 000 copies to date but it’s sales are minimum these days due to not having a hit on the radio among other things. I’m glad Jive got around to giving him his first plaque. It’s so sweet how excited he is about that.

I love his pimpage of his fellow Idol buddies and his over excitement at getting Regina Spektor’s album today. So funny that he didn’t buy Michael Johns’ album yet because he has 4 cents left in his account.

Another fun thing that I just noticed is that his Twitter is going to reach 100,000 followers sometime tonight. I have been watching it go up for the last month and it has simply been going up non-stop since he opened the account.

Oh well, in the time it took me to say that he now has 100,037. yikes!

He’s also been a twittering fiend tonight. I mean seriously. lol And tonight he also just hit over 100,000 followers on Twitter.

IDK. IIRC, it was certified gold on the RIAA website a few months ago but I guess it just took Jive this long to give him his plaque. Just glad he has something else to be happy about this week.

Wish they’d certify David’s Crush platinum since it’s closer to double platinum at this point.

Congratulations are also in order for his gaining over 100,000 followers on Twitter. He didn’t earn the title of Mr. Twitter Universe for nothing. Heh! And David is such a wonderful friend to his fellow idol mates. Since he has over 100,000 Twitter followers, his endorsement of their singles and albums is very valuable indeed.

Great news about David finally receiving the gold certification and it’s nice to read his cheery-sounding blogs and tweets.

Quite often, I check out music he recommends and quite often, I like the songs and buy them, so his mentions do have some effect.

David Archuleta – the album – has sold 710,000 to date.*

Crush – the single – has sold 1.760 million to date.*

Total single sales from this current album (Crush, ALTNOY, Angels, TMH, ZG, ATM) – 2.356 million as of a few weeks ago.

Album and Crush sales are still reported/able to be found. The other songs on the album are probably selling minimally, but hard to find numbers on.

If I had to make a guess about the timing of the plaque delivery, given 6 months after the album was certified, my guess would be that Jive waited for the album to drop out of the Billboard 200 before giving the award to David. That only happened two weeks ago, which would explain the wait. Otherwise, I can’t see what would take them so long. I originally thought they were waiting to give him the award at a televised event, but that’s not the case here since the ceremony was held privately.

Regina Spektor has an album coming out? How come I didn’t know about this? LOL

David A’s tweets are fun, compared to a lot of banal, egotistical crap. And he uses it a lot. It’s pretty understandable why he has so many followers. I didn’t even follow Season 7 but reading his twitter makes me like him, lol.

That’s my thinking too. I was hoping (and they may have been too) that his sales would continue steady enough to warrant waiting for platinum. But sales slowed enough to just plaque the gold.

And I do agree that they seem to be doing the same with Crush and 2x platinum, but seriously, how ridiculous and cheap! They should give him the platinum Crush and gold DATA together, imo. He deserves both precious metals!!

Thanks, LK09! I’m sure I’ll enjoy Archie. I really enjoyed him on the Idols tour last summer even though I lost interest in him during the season.

Demi is cute, but I’m not sure I can stomach a full set of hers. I’m driving though, so I can’t actually imbibe beforehand! I love live music, and the Mann is a great outdoor venue, so I’m sure it will be a fun time–as long as my kid enjoys it. (And he better, because I paid full price for those tickets, and they were selling them for half-price several weeks later. :rasberry_ee:)

It will be interesting to hear what you think. I can’t go to a concert this summer :sad_wp:, so I will have to take others’ word for it.

It is maddening that they haven’t really advertised David much for these concerts and that he isn’t sharing it, so the tickets would sell better. I guess Demi is not as big a draw maybe as Disney thought. In time, she will gain more fans though, I bet.

No he’s not. So far, he’s been nothing more than a 1-hit wonder with a very mediocre pop song. They did shit for the much better single ALTNOY and now they’re just trashing the whole album with some potentially very good singles on it if they would learn how push them on radio. Jordin has thrived under them, but Archie’s barely made a dent in the music industry. This is such bull shit! I don’t have a good feeling about a follow up album since they seem to insist on him singing nothing but pop songs for 12-year olds.

David is doing fine, more than fine. He is a debut artist who has sold more than 700,000 copies of his debut album. He also has a hit single that has sold more than 1.7 million copies. He has been consistently able to tour with all but one of his shows selling out. He has been able to travel and perform in other countries. He just played at the San Diego State Fair and got paid 100,000 to play there. Not every debut artist has had the success that David has had. Yes, David had one song do well on his debut album. He is not the only person to experience this. That doesn’t mean that will be the case with his next album.

There are several months left before his Christmas album is released and quite a bit more before his second album comes out. Are we certain that there won’t be a 3rd single coming off of his current album? It seems some people here are suggesting that that is the case?

Seriously, I made a similar post somewhere else here. Personally, I’m really optimistic with his career. Remember, this is his first album, whether Jive drops him next year is ….wow…its still waay out there. ANything could happen with his second album. And if it bombs? It won’t stop him from continuing music. Here’s a guy who has frequently said that he doesn’t care about the fame or the money. He just want to do this for a living for as long as he can. If Jive drops him, he’ll go indie. He’ll still perform, he’ll still be there, somewhere. AND we’ll have MJ update us on his career FOREVER! lolz

Unlike other idols who got released from their contract, I don’t think that will happen to Archie, and if it did, I think another major label will pick him up.

Why? Because he has a great voice and to me, it seems like he was developing his musical style more after his album has been released than when he was on Idol or while working on the album. I think they have a clearer vision of where they want to go and if you think about it, he’s sold about the same as Jordin without a huge blockbuster single like she had with No Air. I think they can totally repackage the whole album with No Gravity and release that as a single and that would boost up his sales.

Thanks for the close-up vid of David’s little gold certification recognition at the NY concert, ozarka! From the screams, it is obvious that many of the folks there weren’t exactly “non-fans.” But what I most loved seeing? The big smiles on Mike Ks, Johnny Bs and Kendra’s faces — nice to think David is surrounded by people who care.

Huh?! It never even had the chance to peak. It was dead on arrival. The label just barely made a move to release and hung it out to dry before radio stations would even try to play it.

I disagree. It went for adds in December or January and peaked in April. There were at least two mediabase ads for it. David did several radio station appearances. Radio for whatever reason wasn’t buying it. The only thing I fault the label for is not releasing it right when Crush was peaking and for taking the Hot AC add date away. It probably would have been successful on Hot AC and then his video would have been on VH1 and he would have seen some sales from that. Plus, maybe they shouldn’t have changed the song but who knows if TMH would have done better.
