Frequent blogger, David Archuleta, posts a message today on his MySpace.   It’s all about his weekend in NYC.   Here’s an excerpt:

Hey Guys! Just wanted to say that I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!! We were in New York this week, and I had a blast! Yesterday was the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and that was really exciting. I was on the Green Dog float, and there were tons and tons and tons of people on the sides. It was pretty chilly too, but I heard that it was a really nice day compared to previous years haha.

The night before Thanksgiving, my mom and I went to see the musical In The Heights, and it was pretty much PHENOMENAL. It is seriously like one of my favorite musicals now. It was great that my mom was able to come to this particular musical too because it’s full of Latin music. So we had a great time with that, and also got to meet some of the cast members from it. I definitely recommend it if you ever get the chance to see it! The cast from the musical was also in the parade and did a number. Oh, the night before we saw the musical, my mom and I watched Twilight. I never read the books but a bunch of my friends are really into it, and the movie’s been getting a bunch of hype so we decided to go see it. I actually really liked it. The weird thing is when we walked into the theater Crush was playing so we walked back out because it was so weird haha.

He met the kids from the PBS show Fletch who were also on his float, and he got to see Miranda Cosgrove from iCarly who was there too.   It was a reunion of sorts–he shot an episode of iCarly that will air in the spring.

My favorite part of the blog, however, is this:

And there’s a mouse in here. Sorry I know that was random, but I can hear it wandering around and it keeps squeaking. I didn’t think there would be mice here but I guess there are… But anyway.

Completely random, and has nothing to do with the rest of the blog.   Good stuff!

“RV65à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.I see him now as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“cuteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ young guy. And it will be interesting to see if that translates into full out handsome (hawt, sexy, etc) when heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s older, lol. That was all I meant by that.”

Oh no Judy I didnt mean anything by my post…I truly agree with you and found your thoughts interesting!…just adding a bit of humor there….I guess Im not good at that…lol

  • IGetCranked

but if you really listen to his many interviews, you realize he is way wiser than his years.

He is very wise and he is a master at deflecting questions that he doesn’t want to answer with a giggle or saying something random. He is more than meets they eye and if anyone listens to the lyrics to Works For Me, you realize that he knows what he wants and how he wants to do it.

.but Im more curious about the voice changeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦sometimes i think his would end up sounding like Eliott Yaminà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s (big fan too of this guy)..

His vocal coach says that his voice will get even richer. :)

IGetCranked, you hit the nail on the head. Often, what proves a person is not what, but how. What strikes me as wise about David is how he instinctually responds to situations. How he deflects the bad and the criticism. How generous he is. How at such a young age and with so much thrown at him, he seems to know what to say and that he says it with such sincerity.

  • JudyOhio

I knew he was good at deflecting during the tour when a fan asked about his first single Crush (which was news that wasn’t out yet or supposed to be out yet), and he answered, “Where did you hear that?” and never commited. I knew then that he knew when to and not to disclose if you will.

  • IGetCranked

I knew he was good at deflecting during the tour when a fan asked about his first single Crush

Yep. I’ve seen it numerous times along with the “Aw that’s too bad” line that he uses if someone says something negative about him. He doesn’t give in to the negative and that takes a strong and mature person.

  • E

haha MJ I like the title of this thread too!

That mouse thing was so random. I was thinking wait was there a mouse character on the float? lol his blogs never fail to crack me up.

Thak you David for the frequent blogs, keep them coming :D

Re David acting like a 12 yr old…hmmm…I am 21 and know quite a few guys my age who are very much into music, play an instrument, but act very much younger in life. Even though they aren’t as talented as David, the music has taken over some significant portion of their lives and they live thru it probably like David does. Maybe true artists mature differently than the rest of us.

Aside from his enormous talent, I adore David for simply being the wonderful person he is. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so innocent in his ways and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s incredibly refreshing in this day when kids are in a hurry to grow up. I love that he makes sure to attend Church when he can and that he is so grateful and thankful for everything. I love that he would never do anything to hurt someone else so heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s always apologizing to and pleasing everyone; I love that he is so respectful of his brother and sisters and *wants* his Mom and Dad by his side guiding him through this journey and having an opportunity to enjoy the fruits of his celebrity even though it might not be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹coolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢. I love that he has no ego and wants to be treated like everyone else. I love that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s smart enough to realize that this is a fickle industry and not everyone has your best interests at heart and so he appreciates the moment while heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in it knowing it could change tomorrow. I love that he’s simply a genuinely good person who looks for the best in everyone and everything. I love that he’s taught a lot of us to be better people by his example. He really gives me hope for the future of our youth. Given those characteristics, I honestly canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t imagine anyone not à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹gettingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ David, but I respect everyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s opinions.

I can say with all honesty that, other than Pink Floyd (my age is showing) I have never been a “fan” of any performer until David A. came along. He got to me the first moment I saw him on AI and I have never wavered since. But, I do understand that there will always be those individuals who don’t see or feel what I do and I totally respect that. All I can wish for is that others have the same respect for me.

David’s blogs are the bomb, to me…they bring back memories of what it was like, for me to be 17. If people think David is “behind the times” they should have seen me back then. There is nothing that puts a smile on my face more than people who always see the glass half-full. And, truthfully, I think David looks at life as though the glass is always overflowing…and boy I’d like to see life that way.

About the whole David acts young discussion–

There is a dichotomy for sure between his musical performance persona and his regular ol’ personality, and it’s a pretty wide difference but that’s mostly because of his extraordinary performance skills. When he’s singing, he’s got the confidence and skill of mid 20s or older (a professional who knows his craft), and when he’s talking, or even more when he’s writing, he’s mid teens (a little younger perhaps than he is, but not a 12 year old). Have you gotten a letter from a 12 year old? I was recently stuck on a broken down train with a group of 16 year olds. We got to talking. David Archuleta could have been one of them.

I think David Archuleta is not going to be a journalist or poet or any other kind of professional writer. He writes simple notes, and that’s fine. People want sophistication because he’s a polished, expressive musical performer, but he’s not going to give that in blogs even when he’s 30. A little bit of that is his youth but most of it is just him. Have you ever seen Neil Diamond interviewed? Flat. Or Diane Warren–she’s practically comatose. Yet they pour out the songs. It’s weird. And incredible.

  • Jabkmc

He was also a straight A student before Idol. I think he can write and write well. But there’s a difference between writing a paper or a formal letter and writing notes to your friends. He writes his blogs like he writes his friends. His first blogs were a little more structured. He was still unsure of the fans and was self-conscious in how to communicate with us. We used to joke about how precise he was in his punctuation, etc. He became less formal as the tour wore on. Now we gets notes like I get from my nieces and nephews who range in age from 13 to 21. The blogs also used to be short and sweet….now they ramble for days. LOL!

And that is one of David’s many endearing qualities..he treats us, his fans, as if we are close friends…not complete strangers. Who else would reveal so much to us, without giving us to much personal information. lol

Quick story – I met David backstage during one of the idol tour stops. I was the first one in the room with the idols and went right over to David. I introduced myself, shook his hand, complimented him on his set from the tour and “CRUSH”. After the pleasantries, he asked me if I had a piece of gum…because he wanted to make sure his breath was fresh as he met his fans. (of course I didn’t, but the person behind me did and was able to give him one) I know that is not a big deal, but it just struck me as so unique that he would ask that…something that you would ask a best friend…of a complete stranger. If you give him the respect and space that he likes…he will warm up to you as he did with me. (I know…this story was not that quick…sorry.) lol

  • soundscene

LOL, rockfan, that’s actually really cool. He is very natural with his fans. He treats his fans as if he’s meeting a new friend for the first time. He’ll ask you about yourself. He’s interested in what you have to say. He’ll ask questions. He’ll stop and engage in a conversation. If the fans are normal and don’t act nervous or weird, then talking to David is just like talking to a really nice person you just met.

More evidence as to just how genuinely kindhearted David is…

David seems to get a lot of coverage in the teen magazines. Have other idols been covered this much in them? I was just wondering because he seems to be popping up in them and featured more prominently on a monthly basis.

  • cruzceleste

^LOL at your story rockfan… Judy, you can said that the fans have made David one of the IT teenagers, they ask for him to the magazines, so the magazines will cover him…I don ´t think any of the other have had this coverage, not because they don ´t appeal to the segment but because they don ´t exactly are part of it…

  • soundscene

Well, AI has never had a true teen idol before. The closest would be Jordin (or maybe Sanjaya, but teens are a bit more discerning than to allow Sanjaya to stay popular for very long). That was what was so odd about David at first–Idol never had a cute, male teen who could actually sing… I mean, really sing. It’s just the nature of male voices that most male singers don’t develop to David’s ability until they are older.

Luckily for David, that’s not all he has to be–he will have that voice even after the teen magazines have moved on because he got too old (i.e., 23-24 lol).

^^ It is nice exposure to a young audience. He can be marketed in many ways to many different people.
