David Archuleta tells the press backstage at the AMA’s that he’d like to collaborate with artists his own age, including fellow Idol, Jordin Sparks, because “she’s such a great singer, and such a fun person to be around.”

Could a duet with Jive label mate, Jordin Sparks, be in David’s future?

Taylor Swift, despite being a country singer, is another talent he’d like to work with. “She’s such an amazing writer,” David says, “and has such a maturity to her at such a young age.”

Artists who have inspired him? The late singer, Eva Cassidy, taught him how to “appreciate the sensitivity in music and really pay attention to the lyrics in songs.”

Whoo…mj is doing some really late night posting! Thanks again for keeping us so up to date!

David is a sweetheart…his crack about feeling ‘short’ at the beginning is hilarious! But I mean, WTH, could they not have had him present with someone a less…vertical? She’s an amazon and had like 5″ heels on too.

I love his enthusiasm for music and wanting to learn as much as possible. David is a very smart and hard working and he’s already learned so much about the music biz. Maybe David could work with Taylor one day on the song writing front, just don’t sing with her David! Hmmm…but maybe David could teach her a thing or two about singing in tune…

  • cruzceleste

I will said, the girl is actually 5`6, but she is wearing at least 4inches high heels…

    Good interview Davey…

  • hypertwink

Also, visually, he’s more stocky while she looks like she has legs for days — which makes her look longer…well, taller.

  • qbaloo

Like I said, she’s very ‘vertical’. IMO, David A is very well proportioned…LOL!

  • cruzceleste

^lol…at least he accept it… do you see the boots the guy he gave the award to was wearing… those were son serious man heels in there….

    ps.
that girl is so skinny it ´s made me nervous, maybe is just the dress… I don ´t like that dress, neither the heels… just in case, Davey give her a nutter butter….

  • E

Well Jordin also said she would like to collaborate with David, so yes I think it is possible in the future, maybe even sooner, like Jordin 2nd album which I read she will start working on next year plus seems like they have really become good friends.

With Taylor? hmmm, singing? dunno if it works. LOL!

  • Duke

lol, i love how archie say jordin’s a great singer.

then comments that taylor is a great writer…singer, not so much. well played davey!

  • CRB

Archie looks like a freaking dwarf next to Ms Woodley and his ability to articulate extemporaneously hasn’t evolved at all post-Idol apparently. She’s cute but she should have worn flats.

Actually, barefoot would have been an improvement over these things…

    http://www.oceanup.com/2008/11/24/shailene-american-hottie-5.jpg

    Now that is ugly.

  • Tony

He wants to….”collaborate” with Jordin, huh? *wink wink*

  • PCdoctor

Archie articulates fine for an overly excited 17 year old. His interviews are much better than when he was on Idol but he tends to ramble on. I don’t expect him to be the best interviewee, at least not yet until he matures some.

  • soundscene

Eh, he’s just fine for his age and experience–and he’s improved since Idol (he was never bad; most people thought he couldn’t articulate at all because he didn’t speak much on stage). He never claimed to be the best orator (in fact, he’s said the opposite). He’s relatively new to being interviewed, and there are a lot of adult celebrities that don’t do well when put in a press conference situation. He’s a great conversationalist outside of the interviewing context.

  • IdolFanatic

I’ve given up trying to convince people how much better he is at interviewing because when I do, then some really awkward interview comes out making me look stupid. It really depends with him. Sometimes he seems extremely shy and nervous and others, he will talk your ear off. I just enjoy watching him and reading his blogs regardless of how it comes off or how critical others are going to be.

And I said this during Idol and still stand by it now: the fact that he’s not the most polished speaker (he even admits this himself) flies in the face of the argument that he’s overly coached. During Idol, I had to laugh at some people talking about him being an overly coached pageant kid and then in the next breath saying he’s so terrible at interviews. Real pageant kids are extremely well coached on giving very polished and articulate interviews. Archie just says whatever comes to his mind and sometimes has a hard time expressing it verbally. While it may frustrate some, I think many find it refreshing and part of his youthful charm. He’s even gone so far as to make the statement that sometimes he feels music is the only way he can express himself back around the time the Top 24 was chosen. So whether he gets better or not, it really doesn’t matter to me. He’s quirky, but aren’t we all to some extent? I feel the same about Jason, who wasn’t the best interviewer either, but it’s all part of his charm :)

  • cruzceleste

    I agree Idolfanatic and soundscene…

    He wants toà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ collaborateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ with Jordin, huh? *wink wink*

^Hey he told in his first tour interview, that he didn ´t care about phoisique, that what mater was personallity…

About the interview, I think that media like David, his interview most of the time are really funny, in this one, not only the press but his co presenter were laughing… beside most celebritites are “so good” speaking that it become boring and predictible… every time they speak you can already tell what are they going to said…the interview that I posted in the headlines thread for yesterday is a good example in how the press really like David…

  • ozarka

^Hey he told in his first tour interview, that he didn ´t care about phoisique, that what mater was personallityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I heard that too, but I’ve also heard him say that he thought it was funny that people thought that Taylor Swift and he were dating. He found that funny because as he said, “She’s like a foot taller than me.”

ETA: If it’s the Glendale AZ interview you’re referring to, he said, “Personality’s where it’s at, and then I’ll worry about the other stuff.” So it’s not entirely about personality.

  • cruzceleste

^He also said thta Taylor was Gorgeous and that it wasn ´t a bad place to be being behind Taylor Swift…what can I said the boy likes taller girls… :smiley2_tb:

BTW, am I the only one that thinks that a Tour David- Jordin- Taylor will be really cool???

So true. I kind of like the unpredictable nature of Little D’s interviews. And he always makes me smile and laugh with his quirky charm. He’s just so fun to watch, moreso than someone who might be an extremely eloquent speaker. Heck, even Kelly Clarkson has this funny, dorky side to her and she’s anything but an eloquent speaker, but people love her for it.

    What interview did you post?

  • soundscene

^^ Taylor is headlining her own tour now. No mention of an opening act yet, I don’ t think. Pop artists have toured with country artists before (and Taylor is cross-over), but I’m not sure their competing labels would be able to work something like that out.

  • cruzceleste

All Access AMA one and Enews…

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure their competing labels would be able to work something like that out.

Correct me if I ´m wrong, but didn ´t Jesse McCarthney(sp?) toured together and they both are form different labels…

  • Lexus

I LOVE David’s interviews….every single one of them. They put a smile on my face. He’s so genuine with everything he says. I, for one, am glad he’s not a polished speaker. Otherwise we’d never have some of those classic ‘archumoments’!

Archie doesn’t seem too phased by Jordin’s size. I thought they looked adorable together in those pictures from the AMAs Sunday night. I do think she is tops on his list of young ladies he wants to “get to know better”.

  • ozarka

^^ I’m sure he does, just not in a romantic sort of way. It’s more like a brother/sister relationship.

  • shell29

I don’t know about “brother/sister”, but yeah, I don’t think there is any sort of “romance” going on with those two-they’re just becoming really good friends. On the other hand, I also wouldn’t say that it’s an impossibility that something more couldn’t blossom somewhere down the line simply because of Jordin’s height. You never know.

  • hypertwink

I was watching Attack of the Show when they showed an Idol-related clip. What else but the uber-popular Teen Girl Archey Finale meltdown. And then Olivia says that the clip was tampered with, and then they showed it with Kevin (the other host) in his jammies inserted into the video, having a meltdown about Archie.

It was fun, especially at the end where he says that he watched Archie on the Today show bopping along with his shiny hair.

  • teenie

I always lose patience listening to Archie. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and I clicked on this to give him another go, but I can’t get through this. I had to change the channel on Ellen because I was unwilling to follow his circuitous speech mannerisms. The worst thing is that I work with teenagers his age. I think at the end of the day I’m on teen overload or something.

  • LK08

teenie- as David would say, “that’s too bad”.

About Jordan and David- I just don’t see it happening, but you never know.

  • cruzceleste

LK08 and Ozarka, you guys are killing my matchmaker fun… let me have my happiness for tonight… :smiley2_tb:

    Oh, really? Thats to bad….

  • shebee

‘I always lose patience listening to Archie.’

Really? I thought this interview was great…he was very articulate.
He has said from day one that singing is how he communicates … and that speaking in front of groups, interviewing are very difficult for him and that he
is working on improving that . I think he is doing great and there are many interviews that demonstrate that. The people who are hypercritical weren’t fans to begin with so it doesn’t really matter what they say because they will always be critical…and probably haven’t listened to most of the interviews .

  • teenie

I’m not coming from that place. I’ve been following him casually, true, but I haven’t been an intense fan since season 5.

If anything, I’ve tried to listen with an interested ear (that was my point), but the unvarying word choices…I think I’ll just stick to his singing.

  • IdolFanatic

To teenie…aw, poor thing. I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m not going to try and convince to feel differently.

As I said before, I don’t give a flying fig what others think of his interviews and somehow I doubt Archie does either.

  • lefty

I think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll just stick to his singing.

As long as folks continue to do that, Archie will be just fine. He’s not trying to make a living doing interviews. :smile_wp: Of course the singing is the most important thing … the rest is just adorkable gravy. If he were too smooth and polished a lot of us wouldn’t find him so fun to follow.

By the way, I’m almost 40 and I can guarantee that if interviewed I’d sound about the same as Archie does. Public speaking is a challenge for a lot of us. At least the kid can sing like nobody’s business.

  • LK08

Sorry Cruzceleste- I will let you have your matchmaker fun. :)

  • cruzceleste

lol LK08 We are moving my fun to the headlines thread…You are welcome to join us… ;D
